In the very heart of the glimmering South City, at the top of a prestigious hotel, an enormous penthouse was alive with a wild party. Smiling, laughing people mingled around, some donning expensive evening wear and others scandalous swimsuits. Music blasted from towering speakers, tables trembled beneath the weight of food and alcohol flowed freely. Getting in had been no problem. Down at the street eager ushers were herding young and fancy folks to Sir Max Credit’s 21st birthday party. Beautiful young women especially were promised free food, drinks and good time. Right. Bachelors were so disgustingly easy to read...
Among the carefree souls a young, frail lady calmly made her way past the bar and the dance floor. Long lavender cascaded down her back. Crimson eyes and dark lipstick painted a striking image against the deathly pale visage. Unlike the shameless hussies parading about, she was wearing a tastefully cut midnight black evening gown. Glimmers of magic twinkled on the surface like stars in the night sky. However, Lady Lilith Nevermore was not here to drink and dance the night away. No, she was here on business. While Sir Credit was an utter fool, just like his windbag father, he happened to hold something valuable... A magical gemstone passed down his family as a symbol of sorts. All she needed to do was catch his attention, lead him somewhere private and... persuade him to hand it over.
The line of thought was cut short when the Witch came across one of the many food tables. Reminded her of the better days back when her family had held grand gatherings... One item in particular drew her attention. The purest, most fluffiest cake beckoned to her. She could almost taste the sweetness of the expertly shaped whipped cream decoration from all the way here. Like it was calling her name... Blinking, she took a step back. She found the sudden temptation rather ridiculous. Cake? In the middle of infiltration? ...Well maybe one slice. Which was quite convenient seeing as there was only one more... slice... left... Lilith’s thoughts trailed off and eyes widened in disbelief. Gone. What, when, how?
The crimson gaze swept the closest partygoers inquisitively. Perhaps it was petty, but the young lady was not willing to just let this slide. She saw it first, thus it belonged to her. Obviously. Upon spotting who she thought, nay, knew to be greedy culprit, she crept up behind them. Clearing her throat, she demanded the stranger’s attention. "Ahem. It is customary to give the first pick to people of higher class, especially when it comes to limited rarities." Calm yet icy, her tone slithered past the murmurs of the ignorant crowd. Earth.
A place that Kuueru had found quite endearing since she began her travels within the mortal realm. Such a diverse planet, a hub of sorts for many a type of race and people. That’s not to say that all planets aren’t diverse, merely this was one of the first gems she laid eyes on. She resided in East City for a while as she studied under the magician Hachi and aided him in the demonic tongue. Together they decoded many a grimoire and tome detailing dark magic secrets that many would be envious of---in contrast, there were several useless spells they had to sort through as well.
Food and fun were what drew her in tonight however, both the sins of gluttony in some form. She was a demon after all; those sort of excitements were hard to refuse. When she caught wind of an illustrious party, she couldn’t help but scheme her way into it. The thought and promise of free food and a good time fueled her muse this evening.
She easily spotted the hotel, it was one of the tallest in the city night. It just so happened that it took place in the penthouse which gave a glorious view to the city lights. A personal lightshow filled with drinks, dancing and good vibes.
Tonight Kuueru had whipped up a different disguise to ‘fit-in’. In contrast, everyone at the party wanted to stand out. So she adorned herself with pearls and light make-up. Her usual pink hair cascaded in waves of loose curls. Upon her tall and rather toned body was a pale ivory dress flowed around her. It wasn’t form-fitting, no---in actuality, for a demon Kuueru was rather modest. Perhaps it was the holy blood that also raged within her veins.
The demoness had entered the room and immediately headed towards the dessert counter. She had picked a plate off the sweet table, unaware of the custom of a full course dinner and how sweets were usually last in line. She however, didn’t take the last piece---but the one before that. Immediately afterwards a haughty woman snatched the last saucer and began to stuff her face, whipped cream smeared on her chubby cheeks.
Alas, Kuueru’s attention was broken as an unfamiliar voice filled the air.
"Ahem. It is customary to give the first pick to people of higher class, especially when it comes to limited rarities."
A small woman had approached the thicker older woman and began to start trouble. Kuueru simply held her plate of cake and watched. She had never met someone who was so brash and haughty, but she couldn’t lie and say she wasn’t intrigued by the red-eyed gal.
“Erm, jeez. That’s a bit rude. I agree, higher class folks get the cake!” Kuueru chuckled at the feuding pair while raising her own slice of cake playfully. Perhaps she was boasting a complement for herself, or adding kerosine to an already raging fire. Still, that was the fun in life.

A pig. That’s what this bloated fool was, a mere pig squeezed into an ill-fitting dress. The witch glared as the animal dared to snort something indignant. As if she was somehow in the right. There probably were actual words there, but all she could hear was meaningless oinking assaulting her ears. Her power was slowly seeping out as her eye twitched with irritation. It clung to the hem of dress like dark mist. There was a chill in the air...
However, before the young noble could remind the uppity peasant of their respective positions in the world, another voice interrupted her. The crimson gaze drifted to the side, taking a moment to observe the tall lady in a pale ivory dress. Something felt familiar... It was an odd sensation really, like coming across a colleague. Yet in equal measure something about this woman really rubbed her the wrong way. Perhaps it was the attitude. Now the mature thing, she would readily admit, was to simply let it go. Let them eat cake... But she was a petty, prideful kind of person. If she couldn’t have it...
No one shall.
Lilith’s eyes shined blue. In flash the fat woman’s plate swung upwards, like it had gained a mind of its own, splattering the creamy treat against her face. She slipped backwards and crashed against the table. Same was meant happen with the tall lady. An invisible force would try snatch the plate from her grip and slam it right into her face. Meanwhile, the witch lifted her hands to her lips, feigning a gasp. "Oh my, how clumsy of you. Shame to see such good cake go to waste." Yet she didn’t sound at all surprised. It was rather amusing to see the pampas woman accuse the fatter of the group of being disrespectful of her status. There was a clear distinction between the woman with lavender hair and the remainder of commoners in the room, but it wasn’t the social status that caught the demoness’ eye. No, it was the malice that radiated from her petite frame. Kuueru smirked, still leaving the cake untouched, but it appeared that her little commentary only let the angry girl to become more infuriated.
After promptly saturating the pig-woman’s face in decadent whipped topping, the crimson eyes found themselves locked onto Kuueru. The demoness returned a glare filled with malice and distaste towards the current situation. The party-goers all around them seemed to pause and try to witness what was happening. This wasn’t the place for a fight, no---but it appeared the magic user cared not about what she do or where.
“Hn, cute party trick,” Kuueru hissed through her teeth. “It’s too bad that your magic is shite insipid wench.”
Kuueru chuckled as the plate seemed to jerk from her hand and hurl towards her face. However, she was rather hungry. With a wide mouth she managed to swallow the piece whole, bits of crumbles and filling littering her face. She raised a single napkin to wipe away the indecency.
“Alas, I don’t think this is the place to be throwing cake. Maybe we should take this elsewhere?”
Kuueru didn’t flare her aura. For once, her power was suppressed beyond a inkling fraction of what she possessed. However now, she was so interested in her subject, she would have to put the young witch to the test. With a single finger she pointed towards Lilith, then a invisible blast of energy hurled towards the young woman and the table of delicacies behind her.

Lilith’s enjoyment was cut short. When the insult slithered into her ears, another pulse of annoyance tugged at her nerves. Oh, that arrogant harlot did not just say what she thought... Worse yet, the surprise lesson failed completely. The sweet projectile got gobbled up so very effortlessly. "Tch, you’re awfully mouthy for a mere village who-" However, she never got a chance to finish that impolite sentence. She was caught completely off-guard by the invisible blast. It carried her backwards until she hit the table behind her with a painfully loud crash. Pastries of all sorts went flying into the air. A fork hit the floor with the most awkward clatter. People were staring...
Again the dark energies flared, but this time with clear purpose. The young lady daintily pushed herself up, brushing the bits of pastry from her hair. She muttered an incantation beneath her breath. "Forces unseen, shroud and shield thy mistress..." Violet wisps wrapped protectively around her body. Ignoring the gawking commoners, she leveled her icy glare at the taller woman. "A cheap shot from a cheap harlot. How typical." She struggled to maintain at least some semblance of composure, trying to remind herself of her grandmother’s advice. Don’t get mad... Get sadistic.
With defensive enchantments in place, it was time to pay back the humiliation. The young witch clicked her fingers and a metal wand manifested into her hand. She uttered another chilling chant. "I call forth the wrath of winter..." The temperature dropped until her breath appeared as white mist. Between the horn-like prongs on the tip of the wand, a glimmering snowflake formed. Calmly she took aim. "Frost Hex." A blue bolt of magic shot towards the disguised demon. If she got caught, she risked getting frozen solid. It was clear she had struck a nerve; that only made the smile on Kuueru’s lips wider. Her eyes narrowed as she took in the entitled girl---the demoness was now immensely curious of her background, and the magic she used as well. However, she was about to witness more ‘magic’ first hand. The woman dressed in a fluid white gown threw the saucer to the floor, it’s ivory body cracking into dozens of thick shards.
However, as she was getting berated by the more petite woman it seemed her blast of air hit. The smaller woman fell back into the table, jolting it’s contents and the people around her. Everyone slowly seemed to file out, and an angry party host could be heard berating whoever was causing the ruckus.
“Uhoh, looks like we are in trouble eh?”
The woman chuckled loudly before more insults were hurled her way. As well as an incantation or two. “Harlot? Hardly, I bet you’ve laid with more men than me little one.”
A blue bolt of magic aimed for the woman, she looked behind her spotting a large window that overlooked the city. Easily she shifted out of it’s projection and the magic missle clashed with the glass, frosting it over before it shattered over the people on the streets far below.
“Welp, that sucks. Hopefully no one’s down there.”
A few demonic incantations escaped her own lips as she disappeared from view. With a sickening speed she appeared beside the woman. A ki infused poke here in the ribs, then one towards her neck. She attempted to aim for vital points and subdue her new enemy.

In the span of a single sentence Lilith’s features went from deathly pale to glowing scarlet. She would definitely blame the sudden shock for missing her spell. "E-excuse you! I am still a pure maiden unsullied by... s-such shameless activities!" She was a refined lady with very high standards! And not much time for dating between her studies... W-well, at any rate, the implication was entirely inappropriate! She didn’t get a chance to protest further, however. The sudden movement was much too fast for her eyes. While her protective shroud stopped the first strike, the second pierced right through. With a pained gasp she staggered backwards, clutching her throat.
That was the famous last straw.
Finally the sinister energies slipped free, revealing their full wrath. The witch coughed, struggling to breathe, yet still wasting her precious air. "Gah... Enough...! I will not be humiliated an arrogant wretch...!" Fortunately some of her spells required very few words and next to no mana. She flicked her fingers upwards. "Creeping Dark." Right on command, the tall woman’s own shadow suddenly spat an inky glob towards her face. Thick and sticky like tar, it was meant to cling tightly and blind her completely.
While the enemy was -hopefully- distracted, Lilith gathered her utmost focus. "Suffer the pains of conquest, famine and pestilence as thy body withers away..." Her incantation echoed thrice from the walls. She aimed her hand at the foe and magic swirled around her digits. Yellow, blue and violet... Blending together as the fingers clutched into a fist. "Superior Black Death!" A massive burst of foul, noxious magic exploded around the foe in a suffocating cloud, resembling a mushroom. If she didn’t avoid it or her body couldn’t withstand it, she would soon find the devilish effects taking hold. BATTLE TRACKER DEFENSE PHASE. “Pure maiden, yet you throw around such nasty words child,” Kuueru’s eyes shifted to an intimidating crimson. At least, she hoped that was what it portrayed. Her arms folded over her chest as the rest of the party-goers clamored out of the room, including the birthday boy who seemed to be scared for his life even though there was no direct threat to him. Luckily, this left them an empty hotel room to destroy, at least before the proper authorities arrived that is.
“I feel like you keep hurling insults at me that describe you though, arrogant? Heh, I’m just honest.”
With that the witch pushed forth with her sickening pestilence and disease. Kuueru could feel the very air around her becoming dense with sickness and affliction. Luckily, as a demon she needn’t to breath. However, they wouldn’t stop the blob of black that launched towards her makeup adorned face.
“Lift away this dark curse, let the spell be reverse,” Kuueru mimicked the young woman’s incantations. Yet, like magic the very black blob smacked against and invisible wall. Kuueru was not invigorated, the rest of the woman’s afflictions failing to stick to her skin.
The woman flared her aura, the air in the room growing dense. So dense that it may very well harm anyone who remained. Now wasn’t the time for invisible attacks. Without the prying eyes of strangers, or the need to be subtle, the demoness’ hands erupted in azure flames. With a few quick jabs she aimed to catch the petite spell-caster off guard.

Shock washed over the witch’s features. One of the most powerful spells in her arsenal... did absolutely nothing. She barely saw the retaliation coming and tried to escape it. "Witch Ste-" Her frail frame blurred, carried by unseen forces. A single step carried her several paces to the side. Yet even this speed wasn’t enough. The first jab stopped her dead and the second one nailed her painfully. Pain surged like flames through her insides. Air tasted like iron. Red splatters painted the floor. With a pitiful cough she collapsed, clutching her gut. Her protection wavered as she struggled to simply stay conscious.
Between the bloody spittle, the wounded woman managed to gasp and cough something vaguely resembling a chant. "Through talent may all boundaries be broken..." Arcane symbols formed around her, swirling in dizzying patterns. Healing spells had never been her strong point, but there were ways around that. "Spell Mimic: Rejuvenation..." An emerald glow bathed her features. Slowly breathing became easier as the internal injuries were mended.
Once the worst pain subsided, Lilith lifted her gaze. Anger and confusion smoldered in her eyes. The mocking words had left her ego badly bruised. This damnable mortal... "Trying to play coy, are you? You think you’re being cute?!" Her eyes glowed blue and the coloration spread into her hand as well. "Let’s see how long that attitude lasts when I drain the very life from you." She pointed her trembling grasp at the foe. "Soul Siphon." Kuueru could only wildly grin in the face of shock that the witch expressed. It appeared that the woman wasn’t worried about who she picked fights with, but perhaps she would be more wary in the future. Kuueru wasn’t brash though, she wouldn't kill the girl for her insolence. For--she saw great potential. The lavender locks of hair and hurling missiles reminded her of Kouzi, a witch she released from the demon realm who was trapped there for some time. The witch trained on Hollow, a planet laden with demonic energy and trained as one of the best magical warriors in the Aetherguard.
No, Kuueru wasn’t the type to stomp out potential. She did however, want to plant the seeds of growth within this woman’s soul. The sounds of sirens blared in the background, easily heard through the broken window that let in the chilly Winter air.
“Coy? Huh? I’m not cute either. I am Kuueru, don’t forget that. Tell me, your name---you’re a conjurer, I want to see you grow stronger.” Kuueru’s lifeless purple eyes shifted to a blood-boiling crimson that would stop a bull in it’s tracks. She marveled at the beaten woman who had resorted to healing magics to keep herself standing. Part of Kuueru felt back, but still---she was holding back her power greatly. But, would this caster really learn from her toying with her?
Kuueru saw the tendrils of soul-siphoning power reach out to her. However, it shot wildly to the side, the witch’s power seemed to be waning from the threat of battle.
“Well, it seems that trouble is coming. I should end this---Hopefully one day we meet again. I hope you can force the demon out of me then.”
The woman’s fists clenched as vibrant azure blades rippled from her knuckles. They looked sturdy, but too the shape of a wild flame. She moved with precision, her aim to incapacitate the woman, thought this one may have some life in them yet.

Anger and pride were a terrible combination. Together they could blind a person who thought themselves wise, invincible even. Like a certain witch for instance. Though the last of the screaming guests abandoned the penthouse, the birthday boy no doubt with them, and sirens wailed in the background, she only had eyes for the woman in front of her. And what spiteful little pinpricks they were... Her insides were crying beneath the constant strain, but her pride had been wounded far worse.
However, this woman, Kuueru, clearly knew her decorum to an extent... Not doing the same would have been beyond shameful. Taking a deep breath, the young noble puffed her meager chest the best she could. She tried to hold her head high despite the pain weighing on her shoulders. "I am Lady Lilith Nevermore, the greatest witch who has ever graced this sad ball of mud." And modest too. Something about those eerie, crimson eyes gave her pause, but she held her ground. No retreat and no surrender... She refused to have anything other than an absolute victory.
Finally Lilith saw the strikes coming. "Witch Step." Her form blurred and escaped the foe’s reach. She slid backwards onto the large balcony. And that’s when it hit her. It was like puzzle pieces had clicked into place. "Wait, I finally get it... This power... Those blades... I know what you are..." Suddenly she aimed an accusing finger at the demonic lady. "You are nothing but an uppity demon! An overgrown imp trying to pose as a human! No wonder your proportions are so... so ridiculous!" The scraps of composure she had gathered were quickly lost in the frustrated ranting. And frustration it was. Nothing else. Definitely not, say, envy...
To say the young witch hadn’t learned a thing was not entirely accurate. The bitter truth she had to face was that she couldn’t match this demoness in a contest of raw strength. So she placed her wand onto her belt... And uttered another incantation. "Fall into the black sea, sink and suffocate..." She swept both hands upwards with a dramatic flair. "True Dark." An inky maw erupted from beneath the foe, aiming to swallow her whole. It was made of that same sticky shadow substance she had effortlessly deflected before. This time there was just a suffocating amount of it. To follow up, the witch tried to drain energy again. "Soul Siphon." Her reserves were running low... If she failed again... Kuueru was better off than the witch at this point. While normally she would hold back from hurting someone badly without cause, this woman’s attitude only fueled her spite. Kuueru felt an anger that wasn’t often elicited, perhaps her demon blood truly was forcing this rage out in the form of physical punishment. However, be it in desperation the other woman still managed to keep stumbling to her feet and carrying on this brawl. Kuueru sighed, her eyes falling shut before refocusing on the petite woman.
“Lady, Lilith Nevermore. Pleasure to meet you delusional,” Kuueru couldn’t help but laugh at the girl’s proclamation of being the ‘greatest’ witch. Anyone who claimed to be the greatest at anything was often full of themselves. Kuueru included wasn’t the type to brag about something she couldn’t confirm herself. What she could say wholeheartedly was, “I am Kuueru, baroness of Hollow.”
It was then that the witch finally connected the dots, somehow. She hurled more insults, even one to her ‘proportions’. Kuueru shrugged the accusation, unsure of what the conjurer even meant. Her eyes watched the other’s scan over her body with a look that seemed, envious? Why?
“True...da--” Suddenly, everything was washed over in onyxian darkness. Kuueru turned her head to the side, but--still everything was black. She stayed calmed though. She reached out into the area with her ki, forming a sort of “spider-web” of energy that would react if any magic or person within the radius came towards her.
The witch moved with her previous attack again. She shifted her body out of the way, though she successfully avoided the attacks. It was time to end this.
“Damn you Lilith, it’s a shame we met on these terms.” Suddenly a concussive blast washed over the room. Entire tables were slammed into the walls, glasses all shattered and the remaining windows in the room flew out into the streets hundred of feet before. The woman herself emitted an azure flame, and once she stepped out of it’s obstructed view, it was all confirmed.
With cold skin and cyan locks she set her crimson gaze on the witch--even if she couldn’t see her physically, she could feel her. She now fashioned black spiraling horns, one single bat-like wing, and a forked tail. That’s not to mention the stupid scantily clad armor that hugged her frame. Though she preferred her modest disguise, one didn’t get to pick this form.
“Now, let’s test you!" Kuueru yelled out before both of her palms lit up with azure flames that she slung wildly at the other woman. Hopefully she didn’t burn the entire building down with this attack.

As the concussive blast rocked the room and showered the streets with glass, even the haughty witch was left utterly speechless. "..." Wide-eyed and petrified, she stared at the transformed foe. Pure power radiated from the fearsome form. The pressure alone felt crushing, overwhelming. She coughed into her palm and red droplets painted her skin. Oh... Oh no... It didn’t just feel crushing. She had to focus. Deep breaths. Yet... When the attack came, she didn’t move. The azure flames tore right through her body, burning it to dust and scattering it to the wind. And the Nevermore clan was no more...
Or so a hasty observer would think.
Sharp senses could pick up Lilith’s presence before she even opened her mouth. In a flash she had moved behind the demoness, the only remotely safe spot from the infernal attack. A fleeting illusion had been destroyed in her stead. The penthouse looked like a bomb had gone off. Furniture was shattered and scattered, windows were broken, lingering flames licked the curtains. Down below the sirens had gathered and officers scurried around like angry ants.
Lilith’s voice regained the calm and cold chime. "You should know that I am not afraid to die." However, obvious hesitation crept into her tone. "But... I would still rather not..." She may have been incredibly prideful (and stubborn), but she wasn’t foolish. Her mana was running low and she was now out of defensive cantrips. It was clear she hadn’t managed to even scratch the foe, as much as she loathed the very thought... Gritting her sharp teeth together, she slowly lowered her head. "Every inch of my being wants to vomit for even considering this, but I suuh..." She actually dry heaved at the mere syllable. "I surr... e..." Guh, how hard could one stupid word be? It was too much. After her fit of anger the demoness quickly shifted down to her base form. The witch, despite her best attempts to be sedated, was still on her feet. Barely.
The aura of the woman now lingered behind the now, pink haired woman. It seemed that they both let out too much frustration tonight. Was it all fruitless? Kuueru turned to look at the lavender haired woman whose evening wear was now in tattered. She felt a big guilty, but that was the nature of the game of combat.
“I have no aims to kill you either---Save your words Lilith, you’ve held up wonderfully tonight. If you weren’t already on the Empire’s roster I would have recruited you,” Kuueru straightened the hem of her own dress carefully. The smell of fire filled the room, as did smoke and flames. Soon one would hear a swat team barreling up the hallway and towards their party.
“I’m also a... Commander in the Galactic Empire and right hand to Lute. I figured it was about time we met, and I got to test my colleagues.”
It wasn’t hard to find out the roster of the empire, after all, with her ranking she had access to much of the records. Not that they weren’t public after all. The demoness pushed past the witch and made her way towards the window to get one last marvel of the night sky and lightshow below.
“Well, I guess I’ll be seeing ya,” with those words the woman’s body shifted and transported back to Hollow. Lilith Nevermore

Much to prideful noble’s surprise -and quiet relief- she didn’t have to actually finish the nauseating word. Oh and her life was spared as well, which was nice. She didn’t lift her gaze though, or utter a single word. Perhaps a thank you would have been appropriate, all things considered, but she couldn’t bring herself to voice it. If she were to seek any silver lining, it was the fact that the mysterious demoness was also a member of the Empire. A Commander even. And loyal to Lute on top of it all. No wonder then... That her magic never stood a chance. The realization still tasted all too bitter.
While Kuueru disappeared from sight, Lilith was left behind. She wasn’t moping, mind you. Definitely not! There was just... a lot to think about... Her original target was long gone, along with the useless man who owned it. Well then, this night had been a magnificent blow against her pride. With a wave of her wand and a tired mutter, she summoned her broom. The swat team breached the door, guns drawn, only to find the ruined penthouse completely empty. Looking down on the heavily-armed ants, the witch sighed and ever so carefully vanished into the night. Ow, ow, ow... She was going to be sore tomorrow...
