Location: EARTH - FORGOTTEN FOREST/WATERFALL OF HOPEThe dark Forest let no moonlight break through its treeline, keeping the shadows of the trees locked away. The only light capable of breaching through the darkness was the bright blue light of the waterfall at the center of an all black clearing. The blue water that flowed down holding a glow that none could explain, but at the same time none questioned it either. The villagers of Rikudos childhood had called it the waterfall of hope, a name given to it for the glow of its waters that never faded and the massive amounts of energy that could be felt when entering its presence. The waterfall itself calmed all the dark spirits around it making it a safe haven for those seeking spiritual refruge, as long as they could find it.
The first time Rikudo had came here was right after his mother had been killed. He could remember the tears running down his face as he ran through the forest completely oblivous to the demons around him that watched his every move. He remembers reaching the waterfall and feeling its energy wash over him like the warmth of his own mothers bossom had done. Since that very day he has constantly been drawn back to this place feeling like his mothers spirit never left the world but instead came to the waterfall where her son would be able to stand next to her again. "I still miss you.. Mother." Rikudo said as his markings began to glow a bright blue, matching the magical waters of the waterfall. This glowing was his connection to the energy of the waterfall itself and it seemed to happen every time he stepped foot here.

Brewing potions was a fine, delicate art. From the equipment to ingredients, every single detail mattered. Even the quality of water made a world of difference. For a witch of Lilith Nevermore’s caliber only perfection was acceptable. Luckily she happened to know a peaceful, little waterfall tucked away in the depths of a beautifully gloomy forest. Its waters were brimming with magical power, so a must have ingredient for what she was planning. Commanding her enchanted cauldron to follow along, she set off expecting nothing but peace and quiet. After all, the forest surrounding the waterfall was teeming with spirits and demons of all sorts. They tended to keep fools away.
So imagine her surprise when she felt someone else’s presence there...
Drifting down on a broom, the noblewoman circled the waterfall. Long, mauve hair danced in the breeze, framing a ghostly pale visage. Dark robes wrapped around her petite figure and a wide-brimmed hat cast a shadow over her features. Even at a glance one could tell she was a witch, though maybe she looked much too young to be called wicked. Well, looks were often deceiving. Crimson eyes gazed down, aiming a cold, incredulous stare at the stranger. Bloody tourists... Was there no place they wouldn’t stick their nose? Bah, a pointless question, of course not. And now the fool was mumbling to himself. Lovely.
Ignoring the boy with his glowing markings, the young witch landed by the shore. The cauldron hovered by her side and suddenly grew several sizes bigger. Time to get to work. She took her wand and uttered a simple incantation. "Waters, obey my will." The surface started to swirl slowly. It turned into a small vortex, rising as a waterspout. Like a conductor leading a soundless melody, the lady commanded the swirling water into the cauldron. Greedily the black pot drank its fill. More and more... She cared nothing of how her magic disrupted the serenity. Her research was far more important than... whatever the peasant was doing. Words: 338 Rikudo

Feeling the presence of another person closing in did little to draw Rikudo away from the serenity of the waterfall. He assumed early on that their reason for coming here was similar to his own. Perhaps they to had demons that haunted their past, unable to free themselves from the never ending torment. His assumptions were soon dashed however as the girl came within view. Long flowing hair, wearing dark robes and sitting atop a broom, her appearance clearly that of a witch. Rikudo had heard rumors of mant witch clans Inhabiting these forests though his contact with said clans had failed to be established.
He watched her as she approached the waterfall a magical floating cauldron along with her. The waters began to swirl as she commanded them with her magic to enter the cauldron. The desecration of such a peaceful place did not sit well with Rikudo and his markings began to increase in brightness as a blue orb of energy manifested in his palm. Releasing a small beam of energy, he attempted to shatter the floating cauldron returning the delicate waters to where they rightfully belonged.
Afterwards, he would call out to the female witch, his voice holding just slightest hint of anger. "You there, why do you seek to desecrate such a peaceful place?" He wished to know what had brought her here, it was apparent that she was not here for the reasons he had originally assumed of her. Why had she come here to collect this sacred waterfalls mystical power? Perhaps she intended to use it for some sort of spell or ritual, the latter would make quite a lot of sense actually as the water held power far beyond what most mortal beings woulf be able to truly understand.

Just before the beam could strike the target and spill the water back into the lake, the black pot suddenly shifted aside. Passing by harmlessly, the shot faded into the darkness. The glowing waters splashed from the sudden motion, but stayed in the cauldron’s greedy clutches. As if it had a mind of its own... Or more like someone moved it without touching it. To be fair though, it would have been embarrassingly careless to fall for something that obvious. Vagabonds were so predictable... Either demanding money or getting violent... Oftentimes both. Only a fool would ever drop their guard around them.
Calmly, the witch turned her eerily gleaming gaze to the interloper. "If you want something from a stranger, it is proper to introduce yourself first." Her cold, chiding voice drifted through the darkness. She carried herself with an air of reserved grace, not bothering to retaliate or even raise her voice. "It is also customary for peasants to bow their heads in the presence of the upper class." ...Not that she expected this country bumpkin to have any semblance of manners. Regardless of the attack -and the obvious height difference for that matter- she was set on treating him like an unruly child.
Needless to say, Lilith had no intention of actually answering the question. Not unless the boy apologized earnestly for his rude behaviour and chose his next words far more carefully. She had no interest in his nonsense about desecration. This spring was simply a resource to be used like any other. Speaking of which... With a click of fingers, she summoned a small, red-tinted book into her grasp. The cover fluttered open and the pages slowly turned on their own as she idly eyed the texts. Now which recipes to brew first...? Words: 298 [Total = 636] Rikudo

His ki blast had missed the cauldron, instead speeding off into the distant darkness. With a snicker at the sight he had just witnessed, Rikudo matched the witches glare. Her energy levels were easily sensed by him as being higher than his own and this meant he needed to tread lightly from here on out.
"If you want something from a stranger, it is proper to introduce yourself first." The witch spoke, not a hint of any sort of emotion in her speech. "It is also customary for peasants to bow their heads in the presence of the upper class."
As she spoke, Rikudo with a sigh inhaled deeply before speaking a reply back to the witch, "very well then, I am Rikudo a halfing demon/human who used to live within these forests during my childhood." Stepping closer to the waters that drained off the waterfall. His reflection within the pool of glowing water was clear as he spoke once more. "My mother used to tell me stories of how this sacred waterfall held the hopes of all the lost souls who were taken in these forests. She used to say no matter how dark the spirit, the waters light can touch them." Returning to his feet he once again met his gaze with that of the witch. His thoughts now flooded with memories of his mother having soothed his inner fire, Rikudo allowed himself another deep breath before going on to ask the girl for the same formality he had just given her.
"Now I've told you a little about me, I think you should do the same." as he said this, Rikudo had also caught himself wondering if she was still planning to answer his previous questions, and explain to him what her purpose here truly was. He needed to know what had brought her here and why she was bent on stealing the waters of hope from the waterfall, though it was obvious that the waters inherent power would make for great magical rituals and potions.

As the young lady had expected, the boy neither apologized or bowed his head like decorum demanded. Sadly, she wasn’t even surprised. Well, at least he had the decency to introduce himself. The mention of being a half-breed did get her to look up from the book even. A demon? How quaint. Such unions were not entirely unheard of, but still rather rare. Studying him could have been fascinating. Pity he wasn’t exactly obedient servant material...
As the brief tale ended, Lilith snapped the book shut. A particular choice of words really stood out to her. Sacred waterfall... Bah. Religious peasants were the worst kind of an annoyance. Always declaring every other thing sacred and then getting uppity when someone actually put the resources to a good use. It explained why the boy had so rudely interrupted her. He must have believed this pathetic puddle had some intricate value beyond being rich with mana. "So your mother was a fool then. And I can see it runs in the family." That’s all she had to say about the matter.
Still, the peasant did have a point. Polite introductions went both ways. The witch pinched the hem of her robes and dipped into a dainty curtsy, a motion more mocking than respectful really. "You have the honor of speaking to Lady Lilith Nevermore, the heir of the illustrious Nevermore witch clan." She straightened her back and idly brushed her hair behind her ear. "Charmed, I’m sure." She wasn’t going to share her life story, however. What had happened to her family was in the past.
Meanwhile, the cauldron was finally brimming. One more wave of the wand caused the waterspout to sink back into the lake. Lilith flicked the wand towards the base of the pot. "Ignite." A spark flared into dancing flames. Even without any wood or oil the magical fire blazed brightly. It would still take a good while to heat up all that water. She had plenty of time to gather the ingredients. And by that she meant a servant of hers would be doing the gathering, obviously. A lady did not dirty her hands with menial tasks. The mention of his mother being a fool was an insult that normally would have erupted into a frenzy of anger. However in this one instance this was not the case and somehow Rikudo felt as calm as ever upon hearing the insult from the witch. Perhaps his mother had been a fool, quarting with a demon to create the monstrosity that is Rikudo himself. But, even so, despite her foolishness or lack there of she was also still the most loving soul that Rikudo has ever know and nothing would be able to alter his perception of her in any way.
With a smile he calmly responded, "Maybe your right and maybe my mother was foolish for the things she did in life. Regardless of that fact though, my mother taught me what it means to be human and for someone like me? Well.. That life lesson is all too valuable."
With a lady like bow the witch went on to introduce herself as Rikudo had also done. Claiming to be not simply just another witch from the clan of nevermore, but it's heir. Interestingly enough this was not something that impressed Rikudo in the slightest however and with a chuckle he muttered a slightly taunting response, "As charmed as could be m'lady."
A few moments later the cauldron filling with water had begun to fill completely, causing the witch with just a flick of her hand to command the water spout back to its original place in the small lake. Afterwards and with another show of magical prowess she commanded a magical fire to appear with a single word. Rikudo continued to watch the flame for quite sometime admiring its beautiful bright colors that shined through the darkness.
Rikudo stepped forward moments after seeing this, a very small dagger now clutched in his right hand. The dagger he brandished had been once he often kept with him but was used for nothing more than basic tasks like skinning small game or carving wood in times of boredom. Taking the blade of the dagger, he slid the sharp esge acrossed his left palm creating a large shallow gash that bled immediately. "The fact that you feel it necessary to alter the waters properties shows that you do not truly understand its true beauty. Water as pure as this is better left as it is." Rikudo said as he slowly placed his hand in the glowing pool of water. Upon contact with the liquid his blue markings began to glow once more, and as he liftef hid hand from the water and the last remaining drops fell from his skin, the wound he had created was no longer there. He had hoped such a display would be enough to convince the witch of the waters spiritual and magical nature.

While the flames danced, the witch surveyed the scenery. The words in defense of the foolish mother fell to deaf ears. ...Well, she did listen, if only out of idle curiosity, but the provocation attempts were brushed off without a response or reaction. Perhaps it was better that way, because she really had nothing nice to say on the matter. A half demon who wished to be human? How utterly ridiculous. He was squandering his potential, as far as she was concerned.
Lilith quirked a brow as Rikudo pulled out a dagger of sorts. Oh? Was this the point where the vagabond finally gave into his barbaric nature? ...Or he could injure himself with it. Huh. Either he had gone mad or was desperately trying to make a point. She wasn’t quite sure. When he revealed his hand had fully healed, she outright scoffed at the display. "An adorable parlor trick. Truly. Might you next put your hand deep into the water and pull out a bunny?" Now that would have been a mildly entertaining sight.
Selfish and cynical by nature, the witch was not swayed by any appeal about true beauty. Her tone took a spiteful edge, growing sharper by each word. "You know, it’s simply astounding how wrong you are. The physical appearance of the water has no value." She was neither impressed nor amused by an amateur trying to lecture her on the topic of magic. In fact, she found it rather insulting... "I’m well aware of its effects, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. This water is ideal for the potions I intend to brew, nothing more, nothing less." She had not spent her entire life studying magic to have some scruffy hayseed tell her she didn’t understand some aspect of it.
"Now, allow me to show you real magic..."
Lilith flicked her wand downwards and uttered an eerie incantation. "From Hell’s heart I summon thee..." The scattering sparks gathered into an infernal symbol at her feet. "Come forth, cursed forest spirit, Corrupted Dryad." In a flash of flames, a feminine figure sprouted from the ground. With pitch black eyes and lush green skin, she resembled a plant more than a person. Razor sharp teeth flashed in the dark as she grinned. Leafy vines coiled around her body like living clothing. Flowers bloomed from her head reminiscent of flowing hair. The witch gestured towards the murky forest. "Bring me plenty of Wolf’s Bane, Phantom Orchids, Mandrakes and any other potent plants you can find." With a chilling giggle, the creature sank into the ground and vanished. The display Rikudo had put on for the witch seemed not to surprise her in the least. Though this in itself wasn't very surprising as a witch was someone who commonly sees things of a magical nature such as this afterall. Rikudo kept his eyes fixated on the female as she continued on to discount his little display with another insult. Rikudo replied with little more than a small chuckle to her little joke before he would actually speak, "Maybe not a bunny, but I can most certainly grab you a fish if you wanted."
Upon the witches next combination of words Rikudo could sense her growing spitefulness. "You know, it’s simply astounding how wrong you are. The physical appearance of the water has no value."
Rikudo smiled at such a claim, he haf hoped a witch would be able to grasp what he was getting at. Perhaps his words had been too cryptic however and what he needed was to be be more straightforward. "Of course the waters appearance has very little value on its own. The glowing blue beauty of these waters are merely a side affect of its healing properties which I have shown you to be true."
The witch would then go on to claim that she would would show off to Rikudo what she claimed was real magic. This did peak his interest and with a raised brow he readied himself for whatever miss nevermore had planned next. Perhaps she was going to transform herself or summon forth some dastardly beast, though Rikudo assumed the latter could be true. Rikudo wouldn't have to wait long to find out though as the witch shouted an incantation allowed soon after, flicking her wand as she did so. This motion caused a figure to burst from the ground in a rather magical display. A green skinned devil woman of the forest. The demons resemblance reminded him of his father and this fact quickly caused his look of surprise to turn to that of one of disgust rather quickly.
"Your little minion reminds me a lot of my father, hes a rather powerful demon thats been trapped in the shadow of this forest for quite some time now. Be wary of him or this may be both the first and last time we get to meet."

Upon hearing the boy mention his father, supposedly a powerful demon, Lilith gave him a sideways glance. "...Is that supposed to be a warning or a challenge?" She turned to him fully, leveling the full force of her unamused glare at him. "Do you have any inkling in that simple little head of yours what I am truly capable of?" She was guessing no. Otherwise he would not have so thoughtlessly suggested something that insulting. This ignorance would not stand.
The young lady lifted her nose and puffed her petite chest proudly. "My bloodline alone elevates me above you common rabble, human, demon and otherwise." She didn’t consider it boasting, only telling the simple truth. "I am the greatest witch alive, unmatched in magical prowess on this planet and beyond it." Modesty, on the other hand... There was a sudden chill in the air. The power she usually kept suppressed to hardly a fraction started slowly seeping out. Tendrils of hateful energy coiled at her feet like slithering shadows. "To put this in a way even you can understand... I have brought a literal god to his knees." ...Though said Shinjin had gotten away before she could finish him off, but her claim was still true.
Reigning back the irritation, Lilith closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The malicious power shrank back. She had gotten... a little carried away there... Ah, but she was not done yet. The crimson eyes opened, reflecting the chilling calmness returning to her voice. "In the unlikely event your father dares to show his face before me, it would take a mere spark of my power to end him." ...Okay, now she was done. Educating peasants was so bothersome, but someone had to do it. Otherwise they would go on about their daily lives while being blissfully ignorant of their place in the world. That she could not allow.
Meanwhile, the ghastly plant soon sprouted from the ground again. In her vine-like arms she cradled a bountiful harvest. The water was steadily steaming as well, about to reach the boiling point. With a wave of hand, the witch lifted the strange plants to float before her eyes. She studied them briefly before arranging them neatly aside. The dryad, on the other hand, kept staring at the boy with those inky black eyes and smiling that unnervingly sharp smile. Almost as if she wanted something... Words: 402 [Total = 1839] Rikudo

From the way Lilith had reacted to Rikudos warnings, it was easy to tell that he had perhaps offended her. She went on to mock him asking if it was a warning or a challenge before proceeding to proclaim that he hadn't a clue of her capabilities. While this was true, it didn't really matter to Rikudo, he knew the full extent of the power the demons of this forest held. No mere magic from a witch was enough to destroy that much evil, no matter how powerful her clan was hailed to be. For while Rikudo may quite well just be mere common rabble to her, as she herself said, but his father most certainly was in a class of his own.
A few moments later the female witches little pet plant demon would return, a variety of mixef plants in its possession. The witch commanded said plants to them however the forest demon kept her eyes fixated on Rikudo as if she wanted something from him. Its beady eyes peared into his and after a few moments of direct eye contact, one of Rikudo eyes would change glowing blue and twisting inti a demonic black appearance. His markings would also glow, the simply demon in front of him merely turning its head to the side in reaction.
After a few moments, and a few deep breathes taken, the glowing subsided. Rikudo smiled at the demon plant in front of him before uttering a single string if words, "sorry, I dont feel like getting too riled up today."

When the young man deflected the dryad’s wordless provocation, the plant lady huffed and grumpily crossed her vine arms. Inexplicable anxiety, creeping paranoia and palpable fear... Those were things the devilish forest spirit liked to inflict on fools who crossed her path. It was in her twisted nature. So when the man proved himself beyond such things, she quickly lost interest in him. Instead, she turned her attention to the summoner. Silently she stood in place, awaiting for another order. She was only here to serve...
Meanwhile, Lilith was nearly done sorting the plants. The haul was... satisfactory. She could brew enough potions to last a month or two. The black tome was opened again, its pages turning with a sense of purpose. When the correct recipe was found, selected plants started floating into the cauldron. The witch resembled a conductor, gently making motions to direct her odd, little orchestra. Soon all the ingredients were in place. A muttered incantation drifted in the silence, fanning the flames and making the water bubble wildly. What this first batch would become, only she knew.
While the brew boiled, the young lady shifted her attention onto the half-breed. It seemed he had learned to keep his mouth shut, for the most part. Good. She was not fond of chit-chat. ...But admittedly there was something she had been wondering about. Since she had nothing better to do than wait, she might as well sate her curiosity. "That scarring of yours..." She gestured at his markings. "Does it respond to magic? Or simply your emotional state?" Judging by his actions thus far, she was suspecting the latter... But... Rikudo could tell that the demon forest spirit had been slightly intrigued by the showing of his markings starting to glow. However this sense of attention quickly faded and boredom took over as Rikudo calmed himself and the light faded from his markings. Upon this happening the spirit would then turn its attention back to Lilith, her very summoner instead.
Lilith however was busy orchestrating a concert of ingredients into her cauldron. Commanding each one with elegance and grace as she added them to the brewing mixture. While this was happening the witch then turned her attention to Rikudo apparently just as intrigued with his markings as her commanded spirit had been. She questioned Rikudo as to whether or not his markings responded to magic or just his emotional state. A question Rikudo could not fully answer.
"Well I can't really give you an exact answer as I just don't really know. If I had to guess id say my emotional state impacts the glowing but I'm not sure what the glowing itself symbolizes yet. All I know for sure is that its a little gift from dear old demonic dad and that whenever the markings glow I can feel a very strong yet fiery hot power surge through my whole body."
The sensation Rikudo spoke of is one he had felt mutliple times before. Like a rush of blood and heat running its course rapidly through his entire body. Bolstering his muscles and stamina along with causing Rikudo to feel as if he could do anything in that instant alone. Beyond just that however, Rikudo had always felt like the markings and thr feelings they provided ran much deeper than simply just a rush of sudden power. He was half demon after all so this power was apart of him always, noy just when he felt emotional. The problem was Rikudo had no idea how to unlock it. Perhaps in the future he will learn to merge his demonic power fully with his human body, the skies the limit once that happens.

Though the response immediately started off on a disappointing note, the young witch still listened patiently. Emotional state it was then. By the end of the explanation, she mused idly. "Hm, so there would be no benefit to cutting your head off and using it as a magic detector." She merely shrugged the gruesome thought aside. "Pity." A dowsing tool would have been immensely useful for her research. Relying on her senses alone was exhausting. A fine lady such as herself should not have to suffer menial labor... Oh well. She would simply have to figure out some other solution then.
Soon the boiling concoction had gained a beautiful scarlet tint. It held a warm, pleasant glow as well. A sweet scent drifted in the air. Lilith clicked her fingers and the fires went out. She summoned a dainty teaspoon into her grasp and slipped the tiniest spoonful of potion into her mouth. Closing her eyes, she quietly evaluated the taste. After a bit of pondering, she allowed herself a small smile and a pleased hum. Yes, perfect... With another snap several glass bottles appeared from thin air. Each in turn jumped into the cauldron, drinking their fill. Corks then sealed the contents tightly. Reminiscent of obedient pets, the floating flasks lastly arranged themselves in neat rows next to the witch.
Most pleased with the results, the lady gave the boy a glance and a smug smile. "See this, child?" She swept her hand, proudly presenting the brimming bottles. The first batch had turned out to be a resounding success. "This is what true magic looks like. Organized, efficient and beautiful." Ahh... Just the thought was making her tingle... "Hm, so there would be no benefit to cutting your head off and using it as a magic detector." Rikudo couldn't help but chuckle at the insulting joke. He figured it probably wasn't one of those, we're laughing with you not at you, things but he also didn't really care either way. With everything he had seen and or been forced to bear witness to in life, being insulted by a petite witch in black didn't really faze him all that much.
"No probably not," He began to reply, "although, if you ended up using your magic to somehow control whatever power causes this marking to glow, then you could fight off demons pretty well."
Rikudo wasn't sure if his own joke would be taken as well as he had done to hers. Rikudo had never been one with well thought out sense of humor. That wasn't really his fault though, as thats what happens when you grow up secluded from the outside world and no friends aside from your mother.
A sweet aroma then filled the air soon after, signifying the completion of whatever the witch had brewing in her cauldron. Rikudo then watched as she summoned a spoon to perform a taste test on the brew. Once pleased she then sunmoned bottles to house the left overs, and corks for seals. An impressive display, but Rikudo wasn't really that well verse in magic either so he had no way of telling if what he was watching was considered impressive in the world of magic or not. "See this, child? This is what true magic looks like. Organized, efficient and beautiful." Rikudo listened to her praise herself once again before mustering up another reply.
"So what is that you made exactly? Is it a bunch of love potions or just like.. Homemade juice?"

Rikudo’s words were much like taking a needle to a balloon and watching the air slowly escape. Lilith’s pompous attitude deflated into silent disbelief. Her shoulders slouched and eyes lost their gleam. The delightful tingle was gone. "...Love potions? What exactly are you implying?" An utterly ridiculous suggestion. Why would she even need such things? She didn’t want love, she didn’t need love. The only thing in the world that had any value was magical knowledge. Loving relationships were a waste of time and she definitely wasn’t desperate for one. Absolutely not! Hmph!
The witch shoved the pointless thoughts aside with an irritated sigh. "Ugh, never mind." She pinched the bridge of her nose, trying in vain to herd her scattered thoughts together. No use. "I believe we are done here... I am not going to argue the intricacies of fine magic with a tasteless lout." And she certainly wasn’t going to waste her valuable time explaining him what the wonderful concoction actually did. She had to get the bottles home and arranged according to potency anyhow.
Without another word, the lady gently sat on her broom. She clicked her fingers sharply and sparks of magic flashed around her. First the plant woman vanished in a burst of the same flames that had heralded her. Then the huge cauldron shrunk back to its compact travel size. Finally the bottles rearranged themselves behind her like a flock of ducklings. Red, glass ducklings brimming with magic. She gave the halfling one more disdainful glance before taking to the sky and vanishing beyond the trees. Rikudo may have failed to stop the woman from stealing the water, but ultimately he had succeeded in driving her away. ...Kind of? In a weird way? Well, regardless of the method, the sacred waterfall was safe again. For now... Words: 308 [Total = 2734] Rikudo ((Exit Lilith))
