Appos could hardly catch his breath as the mud below consumed his arms and legs. The rain felt ice cold on his naked figure, a sensation he had never known until today. He stared at his bare arm with a mix of terror and confusion. Where was his Nanosuit? Where what he? Appos stumbled up before falling down, facing up towards the sky. “This is MT- 772. Can anyone hear me?!” He shouted over the thunderous downpour. Why was no one responding? Why did he feel so alone? For the first time The MELON Trooper felt terror as he never had before. He was deaf, alone, without armor or skin. Appos once again struggled to stand, reaching for a tree to help balance himself. He leaned against it and vomited. There was a strange mark on his stomach that almost resembled an X etched into the skin. He felt the tattoo but noticed nothing strange about it. The stranger thing was the feeling of his flesh, it was nothing like his nanosuit. It was weak. The MELON Trooper pushed off the tree and stood as straight as he could manage. He looked up and prayed to anything listening for a Continuum dropship to land and take him out of this nightmare.
“We found him!”
The sudden voice caused Appos to nearly fall to the ground. He twisted around, prepared for a fight in case it was a Ultramarine. A Katchin-clad dropship appeared out of thin air and opened a bright spotlight on the naked MELON Trooper.
“MT-772, we’re here to take you home” A metallic voice stated over some kind of onboard speaker system. Three MELON Troopers rappelled down steel cables and stomped towards Appos. Two stopped about 20ft away, the other continued forward with something in its hand. The Trooper stopped upon reaching Appos and handed him the item, a blanket. “Here you go Sarge. Now that you aren’t in a Nanosuit, gotta cover up those unmentionables” Appos looked up at the 9ft, armor clad titan. It was Kiwi. “Corporal, It is good to see you again. Now get me the fuck off this planet” Kiwi nodded and made an about face. He purposely slowed his stride so Appos could keep up. “By the way, it’s Sergeant now. They didn’t believe me when I said you’d survive” Appos looked down at the mark. “They were right. All I remember is a sharp pain in my head and… Nothing. I woke up with this” He pointed to the mark “And fragments. Either Polaris has a strange way of dealing with prisoners, or the afterlife was full” Honeydew started walking forward as the two closed in on the dropship. “Appos, it is damn good to see you again!” He’d put a hand on Appos’ shoulder slowly, out of fear of crushing him. “Thanks to you, Threep owes me three hetap. Oh, and I’m still bigger by the way” Appos grinned at the remark. “Still feeling insecure after that Okarot fella, eh?” Three Piece would come in and thwack Honeydew on the helmet. “He’s just jealous. Welcome back Bossman. You owe be three hetap” Lemun squad loaded onto the dropship.
Three weeks. For three weeks he was gone. No Powerlevel, no implants, nothing. Along with the nanosuit, he was stripped of all implants given to him as a child. Implanting them now would simply cause an aneurysm. He sat forward with his eyes straight to the ground. He felt ashamed for losing his implants, his nanosuit, his armor, for everything. Appos wanted this to just be over so he could return to action. The door slid up as the Doctor entered into the room with some kind of strange monitor. “Once we get your blood sample processed, you are free to go” The doctor would press a button on the monitor before turning and leaving. A shadowy figure would pop onto the screen. It seemed to be a male, bald, and in a suit.
“Greetings, Sergeant” the figure stated with a gravelly voice. “You do not know me. You will never truly know who I am. All you will know is that we have been keeping a close eye on you. With the recent development of your...Untimely demise and manifestation of Ki manipulation, we have deemed it necessary to forgo reintegration of the Nano-Suit. You will be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant and granted a spot as an Agent. You will also be granted Lemun squad as your personal entourage” Appos looked up in shock at the sudden promotion. “B-but Sir, I’m a MELON Trooper, not an agent. I have no right to-” The man would cut him off “We wish to see you progress to your fullest potential. Without the shackles and restrictions that a MELON Trooper would have. Be warned, your background will grant you a great deal of enemies within The Continuum. But we have little doubt that you will provide results. Until then, we will be watching” Appos stood “Wait! I have so many questions! Where was I? What were those spheres I formed in my hand? Who are you?” The figure reached for something, before stopping and looking at Appos.
“You may call me The Director”
The figure disabled the monitor as the Doctor entered into the room. “You’re all good, Lieutenant. Your new uniform and equipment will be available to you in your personal quarters” Appos, still reeling from the sudden information, turned to the doctor. “What about the rest of my squad?” The doctor leaned over and grabbed a few medical papers. “Oh, you mean your guard? They will be in the barracks with the rest of the MT. Hasn’t anyone gone over this with y-” Appos would cut her off before she could finish “Can I stay in the barracks?” She gave him an annoyed glance before turning back to her papers. “It would be highly unprofessional to do so and I would recommend against it” Appos looked defeated as he walked from the examination room. This was insane. No MT should EVER be an agent. Kiwi would have a seizure just at the mere thought of such a...unorthodox breach of protocol. But he had no choice. In many ways he felt even more like a slave than before. As he cautiously walked to his new quarters, he noticed quite a few deadly glances from other Agents and staff. He entered into the room only to see his new uniform laid across his bed, a chainsword off to the corner. Appos sighed. His head hurt from the sheer amount of confusion that he had experienced the past few days. There was a muffled thud as he fell onto the bed and stared up at the ceiling. “This bed is too comfortable” he mumbled.
