Water, an element that helped spark life across what would otherwise be nothing but empty and devoid cosmos for light years. It gave a habitable environment for aquatic fauna to live in, but it still sustained those that chose to dwell on land. It could fill the atmosphere and fall down nourishing the ground below, only to find its way back up to the heavens again to repeat the endless cycle that was nearly as old as time itself. These were only some of the reasons that Niha would always find herself drawn to it. It was calming to her and she found that many of its traits could be applied to her everyday life. Water adapted to what it was contained in easily. When a stone interrupts the path of a river, the river does not stop for it, but rather goes fluidly around the obstacle. In fact, given enough time, the river would whittle the stone down to nothing more than a mere pebble. Massive canyons and valleys were chiseled into the crust of the Earth this way. She wanted patient resolve like that, to be able to fluidly react and endure whatever life threw at her. After years spent living on New Namek, she couldn't imagine waking up without the sound of the water lapping across the shores somewhere in the distance. So, since Niha found herself free to travel more than she was accustomed to, she decided to follow up on one of her friend's suggestions. Hera was a planet that was known for its many islands and the tropical waters that spanned its surface. It was also known for bands of pirates, but Niha tried not to think about that part too hard. Surely if she ran into any unsavory characters they would be able to reach an understanding of some sort and if not then she could always fly away to safety. Her reflection is cast down on the surface of the planet's oceans as she soars through the air a foot above the water. High in the sky, the sun's beams manage to break through the clouds while large fishing birds lazily coast along on the air currents above. Niha lazily dips and twists, tilting herself so she can let the tips of her fingers drag across the waves. She was looking for an island to explore. Maybe she could find one that had people living on it. If these pirates were anything like the ones that they told stories of on Earth, they would live near ports that had fun and rowdy bars. Everyone would be dressed up in eccentric clothes and ready to share stories of their sailing adventures or ready to sing fun shanties that everyone would join in. Luckily her search wouldn't take much longer since the shape of an island sat as a dot in the distance. With a burst of energy, she rockets faster towards it until she can circle it properly. It didn't seem to be a very large island in itself. There were some boulders and tropical trees along the sandy shore but not much else that stood out. Certainly, no signs that would hint that anyone visited it frequently or it was ever inhabited in the past. She drifts around the shallows and notes the colorful intricate displays of the reefs watching the tiny fish drifting and darting through the little shelters and crevices they provided. Marveling the tiny ecosystem led to her noticing something out of place under the water's surface. It looked like the water was flowing through a small tunnel that was set into the rocky ground. Niha wondered if that meant something could be on the other side? It was no rowdy tavern to explore, but Niha decided that it was worth checking out. She dives under the water's surface and kicks and swims until she's moving through the tunnel. It was dark and the rocks protruding from the walls made it feel foreboding, but rays of light helped guide her to a bend that led up at the cave's end. She paddles faster and follows it until she can break through the surface with a gasp of air. Niha pants for breath and tilts her head around to look at the underground cavern laid out before her. Stalagmites and stalactites were on the floors and ceilings and soft sand covered most of the stone floor. The pool gathered here cast beautiful wavy reflections on the walls and seemed to be cleaner than it was outside. Besides the natural wonder it presented, it seemed mostly abandoned and empty save for some worn wooden crates. Niha swims to the water's edge and climbs out of it to investigate the crates closely. She wipes a thin layer of dust and cobwebs away to reveal the words, 'SS Halstead' painted across the lids in faded ink. Lacking a treasure hunter's experience, Niha had no idea what she stumbled on but it certainly piqued her curiosity. These crates were from the lost ship Halstead that sunk nearly sixty years ago to that day. For the most part, they shipped supplies between islands, but rumors were that their last shipment held weapons that would be valuable in the modern markets of other planets. WC: 878 Van

- H E R A - High over the waters, way up in the midst of the clouds, floated a vehicle of sorts. It looked like a rounded cube, with a windshield, two doors, a rear window, and thrusters where wheels would have been. They quietly hummed as the air car remained stationary above the seas. Even up so high, the air was still nice and warm and there was barely any wind. Laying on the roof of the vehicle was Van, an off-world adventurer and explorer. He yawned and stretched a bit. The boy had been napping, taking a break from searching the various islands. Giving him shade was an umbrella that he had fastened to the side of the car with flex tape. He finally sat up, blinked a few times, and scratched at his hairline while glancing around. With another yawn, he reached into his green bag and pulled out a data tablet. It beeped to life and a map of the surrounding seas appeared on the screen. He gave the map a look and then glanced over the side of the car to see the various small islands below. With a half-satisfied shrug, he swiped across the tablet, looking for a particular location. "Hmmm..."Van pinched his fingers against the screen, causing the map to zoom out. There were a few dots already marked, but they were grayed out. He had already visited them and had nothing to show for it. The next one wasn't too far away. A single island set a little ways away from the others in the chain. With a nod to himself, he put the tablet back in his bag and leaned over the side to toss it into the passenger seat via the open window. He then hopped to his feet and did some stretches, limbering up for the journey ahead. The boy was wearing nothing but a pair of red swim trunks. He balanced on his toes and stretched his arms up over his head. He held them there for about thirty seconds and then let them fall to his side. He hopped back and forth, side to side, and grinned to himself. Then he stepped off the top of the car and began to fall. The air rushed past him as he hurtled towards the sea. His hair whipped and tossed as he dove, his cheeks and lips flapped and it made him giggle. Right before he hit the ocean's surface, he tucked into himself, rolled into a ball and then launched himself forward across the water. This created a wake and launched sea water to either side of him as he flew across the surface. He zigged and zagged, diving down to let his fingers and toes skim across the water every once and a while as he flew. Van watched the water moved around his fingers and chuckled to himself. Unfortunately, he wasn't paying attention to where he was going and by the time he looked up it was almost too late to avoid the large yacht. "YIKES!!" Instinctively, he pulled up, using his hand to touch the very top of the boat and push him away from it. The force was so great that it rocked the boat violently and caused Van to go flying off in an unintended direction. He skipped across the water like a stone, doing a few back flips along the way. Eventually he caught himself and ground to a halt in mid-air. He looked back across the water to see the yacht on the horizon. It was already moving away from him. Someone on the deck was shouting something and waving their fist in the air. Van gulped and then put his hands on either side of his mouth and shouted. "SSSSSOOOOORRRRRYYYYYY!!!!"With another chuckle he looked around to see where he had stopped when a strange formation in the water caught his attention. He was nearer to the island now, close enough to the shallows to see down into the water. There was some kind of tunnel leading back toward the land. He narrowed his eyes and scratched at his chin, debating if he'd check it out or not. After a second or two, he shrugged and dropped into the water to follow the new trail. He used his ki to fly through the tunnel and kicked off of the walls around each bend, which caused him to move even faster. Eventually he came to the exit, a pool of water that opened up to a cave. He popped out of the water and landed on the rocky surface. The first thing he noticed was the girl who was already there. The second thing he noticed were the boxes with 'SS Halstead' painted across the lids. It was the name of the ship he had been tracking. Van shook his whole body, ridding himself of water like a dog. He ran a hand through his hair and grinned at his new cave companion. "Hello! I'm Van!"He offered her his other, drier hand. "What's your name?"

The inner sanctum of the cave is far enough away that Niha cannot hear the commotion outside, though she does sense some oddities in the distance that she mostly tried to ignore. As far as she could tell, nothing out there seemed unfriendly and that was all that mattered to her right now. Niha runs her delicate hand across the lid of the crate, her brow knitting together as the gears of thought began to grind in her head. Her fingertips linger over the head of one of the small nails that seal the edges of the crate tightly shut. She wasn't sure how she was going to pry them away, or if she should try to at all. Whatever was in these crates didn't belong to her, and who knows who could be out there on the planet looking for them? It could have been medicine or herbs getting shipped to one of the ports where doctors would be able to use them to help the sick. However, on the other hand, they could be filled with ill-gotten gains that could be put towards a mighty criminal empire. Maybe if she just took a small peek at what was inside she could decide what to do from there. If the goods seemed harmless enough, she could swim out of the cave and fly around the islands to see if there were any towns or ships nearby that could have misplaced it or know more about the SS Halstead. If they seemed like they could be dangerous, then it felt like it was her duty to try to destroy them or turn them into the law of the planet. Come to think of it, Niha wondered if there was any law on this planet at all. She hadn't yet seen any sign of police or whatever equivalent the pirates had to look up to. After coming to her decision, Niha tries to pinch her fingers around the nail to pull at it but jolts with a loud yelp when something erupts from the pool behind her. It could have been the owners of the crates coming to retrieve their property and rid their cave of any nosy intruders they happened to catch! The pale blue sprite of a girl dives behind the crate to use it as a barricade. When she peeks her nose over the top again, she starts to rise when she realizes that it's just a blonde haired boy shaking the water from himself. He wasn't much bigger than her and seemed young, not too many years under what most Earthlings guessed her age too. The blue-haired girl watches him approach, her eyes looking down at the dry hand offered to her. So, he was named Van? That didn't seem like the name of a terrifying pirate. Niha stands fully and reaches out to take Van's hand in hers and give it a shake without hesitation. Whoever he was, he was polite enough to offer her a polite introduction and that made him alright in her book! She pushes off to let herself float and circle in the air around him in an impromptu inspection. From what she could tell, he definitely seemed like an ordinary human boy from Earth. He didn't have any discolored skin or strange features, no tail as far as she could see, and she could sense his presence unlike some of the androids she had met in her travels. " Hello, Van! That's a nice name. My name's Niha, it's nice to meet you." Breaking away from the circle, Niha starts to hove over the crates, " What brings you all the way out this way, Van? We're a long way from Earth if I recall right..." She wanted to say that she recalled Earth being in a different Quadrant of the galaxy than Hera or New Namek even though the promise of trade brought the Earthling people out their way often enough. Tilting her head down to look at the cargo a thought occurs to her and she points down to the boxes and wonders, " Do these belong to you? I'm sorry for the confusion if they do. I haven't opened them yet, but I wasn't trying to steal from them. I just wanted to see if there were any clues inside about who might be missing them so they could be returned." She twitches her shoulders up in a slight shrug, " They seemed like they could be important, you know?" She wasn't sure how a boy his age might be able to afford a ship, let alone whatever might be in the crates, but she knew first hand that one should try not to underestimate people based on their appearances. Niha WC: 257 "They seemed like they could be important, you know?" Van nodded as he moved over to one of the boxes and inspected the exterior. "They sure do look important... and how in the heck did they end up here of all places?"He stood back up, scratched his head and looked around. Then he slapped his forehead and chuckled awkwardly. "Sorry! I got distracted and forgot to answer your questions. These boxes aren't mine at all, but I was looking for the ship they belong to. I'm.. um.. you see..."He chewed at his lip and looked anywhere in the cave but at her. Why the heck was he so nervous all of a sudden? "I help people find things and sometimes I hunt for them for myself. Most of the time I just want to see them and experience the thrill of the hunt!"He drew circles in the sand with his toe. "I rarely even keep them. I just leave these things where I find them or if they're lost... I return them!"
Van seemed excited to share that last part. He hoped it made him seem like a good guy. Wait, was he trying to impress her? Van smiled but it somehow came off as awkward just like his laugh before. "So um... what are you doing down here? Crazy coincidence us both finding a secret cave in the middle of nowhere eh?"Van grinned and put his hands behind his head as he walked around the cave, casually inspecting it.

Van did have a good question, how did the crates end up here? Niha gently scratched the side of her head, trying to come up with a good possible suggestion for the conundrum. She didn't see any signs of a ship nearby from what she could tell outside of the cave, above or under the water's surface. The crates were dusty, so they must have been here for a while, but they didn't seem to hold any signs of mold or algae that'd hint at them being washed up from anywhere in the ocean. Besides, wouldn't they have just broken up across the rocks if the current was what brought them in? " That's...a pretty good question. Someone must have brought them here, right? Maybe someone was keeping them safe while they tried to find the ship like you?" In reality, the pair had stumbled across the lost stash belonging to the long-forgotten band of pirates known only as the Scourge on Hera. They decimated the SS Halstead and brought the loot here to wait for enough time to pass that they could move the product with little suspicion. When they attempted to return, they were caught up in a storm and the last remnants disappeared only to be replaced by a new generation. They were nothing more than rumors now, though while Van walks the cave interior for a closer inspection, he'd be able to find some old remnants that would paint the bigger picture. Discarded chairs and tables with stained and dated skeins toppled across them with old playing cards scattered occupy a small space in the back of the cave. Under the table is a small leather bound journal that dictated some of the past bounties that were already sold off in a messy script filled with short-hand and codes to protect their business dealings. If Van could decipher it, inside he'd find that jewelry and fine clothes were stolen off an established noble family's traveling vessel, names of some unfortunate souls that were sold off into slavery, and huge stockpiles of various alcoholic spirits aged over a hundred years were just some of the past items listed off that they traded in to profit off of. Above the table and across the cave walls, there hanged several tattered and burnt up flags that were owned by other old sailing vessels. Old trophies from the plights of the past left alone here in their tombs. Meanwhile, Niha attentively listens to Van describe what it is he does with a warm smile. It had to of been the coolest job that she's heard about in her life! " That sounds amazing! You're like...a private detective for finding people's important stuff. You get to explore wherever you want and I bet you have tons of fun stories." She rubs the back of her neck and giggles herself, joining Van in some of his nervous laughter. " I'm not really here for any reason in particular. I heard fun things about this place, and I was just flying around trying to find an island that might have a town. I wanted to see if they had pubs here where people could sing songs and have a good time. Like the people in the stories on Earth. After I found this island, I noticed the cave under the water and felt like exploring too! I don't really have a job or anything, I just...go where I want to." She glances back over the forgotten cargo and hums faintly under her breath. Hearing that Van doesn't own these crates and how he may also be curious about what's inside is enough for Niha to take a step backward and level her hand at them. " I guess there's only one way to really find out what's inside, huh! Here goes nothing!" Aiming carefully she fires off a tiny Ki bolt that blows the lid off one of the crates and sends it falling on its side. Niha winces and flies over in a panic to make sure she didn't damage the contents too much. They couldn't exactly find out what it was from the ashes now, could they? " Th-that was supposed to go differently! B-but...it seems okay..." Unassembled rifle pieces have fallen across their previously organized states, looking to be one of the first prototypes of the more modern blaster rifle designs used commonly today. Back when they were lost on this planet, this amount of rifles would have been enough to create a formidable force. Niha frowns in confusion and picks up a rifle guard to turn it over in her hands. She turns her head around to check on how Van is doing farther in the cave to make sure that he hadn't wandered off while she was distracted. Van hurried back after hearing the commotion up at the front of the cave. He came upon Niha holding a piece of a blaster and one of the wooden crates blown open. With a brow arched, he walked up and peered inside the opened container seeing the contents just as Niha did earlier. He scrutinized the rifle parts, even taking one out to look at it. They certainly seemed dated. The more recent kinds of armaments didn't look anything like these. He set the stock piece back inside the crate and then held up the journal he had carried back to her. "I have no idea what this says, but if I had to guess... I'd guess this was a hideout for pirates or thieves of some kind."He tossed the book to her and moved over to one of the other unopened crates. He spoke while he checked to see if this one could be opened without having to blast it. "Looks like someone already got to the Halstead... awhile ago."Van sighed in defeat and pushed a single finger against one of the corners. A thin beam of energy shot through to the other side and into one of the cave walls. He moved to the other side and repeated the process. He gathered how the crates were sealed from the shattered pieces of the first opened one. With that done, he simply lifted the top off of it and set it aside. "Let's see what we've got..."

Niha lets out an ack in surprise and reaches out to try to catch the journal Van tosses her way with little to no warning. It bounces in the air between both of her hands from her fumbling before she's eventually able to latch onto it. She breathes out a sigh of relief, saved from some embarrassment in front of her new found friend. She opens the journal to flip through some of the pages herself. Her eyes narrow into a squint and she twists her lips. She wasn't much for shorthand herself when it came to her writing and the language they did use was archaic for this time. There were some things she could infer, so she decided to try to expand on it. Niha does sometimes glance up from her flipping to watch Van take his turn with the crates. He had way more control over his Ki than she did. He was able to burn it through the crevices to pop the top of the next crate with little damage to its exterior or interior contents. The one he opens up appears to be a bunch of rounded containers. They are mostly forged from a blend of metal alloys, with a small glass vial on the side that seems to measure something out. Inside if a dull green fluid and it's easy to see small black notches through the clear liquid. They seem to be energy cells of some sort, designed to be assembled and fitted into the rifles found earlier. It had to be enough contained ammunition for fifty of them at least, though without more practical tests it would be difficult to determine how efficient they would be once loaded. " Man, imagine if they actually got all of this out of the cave...they could have hurt a lot of people with these." Niha lowers the book slightly and floats over to see what Van found. " They look like a bunch of batteries. How do you think they work?" She tells Van, before shaking her head to herself. " These notes don't make much sense to me either but got to agree with you. Written by some people that called themselves the Scourge...there are some names. Might be a ship roster or something." She shrugs it off and hugs the journal to her chest. It might not be easy to decipher, but it would still make for a wonderful keepsake. " Can you...show me how you opened that crate? Without it exploding all over the place I mean." She hesitantly asks Van, gesturing to the messy remnants of the crate she opened on her own before making her way to one of the other crates. Her head hangs as she quietly confesses, " I've never been the best at controlling my Ki...at least not for anything like that..." She was used to protecting herself and those close to her or healing them if it came down to it. When it came to trying to use it for destruction or to hurt others, some kind of mental block took hold. It was harder to reign in and guide, and even when it hit, she could never really control the impact it left. Awaiting instruction, Niha leans over the crate to be ready to observe the process. " What's the most fun hunt you've been on, anyway?" She asks, trying to make conversation in the meantime. "Like what was the treasure that was the most exciting to get to or what's the most valuable one you've seen?" Her fingers brush across her arm and her eyes avert away from Van's gaze for a moment in a shy gesture, " Wondering what all I'm missing out on out there. After I left my home, I stayed around New Namek mostly when I found it...it's a planet not far from this one. It's quiet, with a lot of wonderful people living there they call Namekians, but not really the best one for excitement." WC: 659 | Total WC: 3,137 Van

Niha WC: 449 "Can you...show me how you opened that crate? Without it exploding all over the place I mean."Van's head slowly peaked up over the other side of the crate. He was all smiles. "I'd be happy to!.. but maybe somewhere with more room yeah?"That said, he turned to look back inside the crate at the various batteries for the rifles. It was good that no one got their hands on these, or he should say it was good that these didn't fall into the wrong hands. Weapons in the wrong hands always spelled trouble for those innocent people who couldn't fight back. "We should probably destroy these... j-just in case."He lifted his eyes towards her as she asked her questions. "Wondering what all I'm missing out on out there. After I left my home, I stayed around New Namek mostly when I found it...it's a planet not far from this one. It's quiet, with a lot of wonderful people living there they call Namekians, but not really the best one for excitement."Van hopped up onto the last crate, noticing that it was surprisingly sturdy. It didn't even jostle when he landed on it. Putting that thought aside, Van rubbed his chin, thinking on her questions. "Heh, I've actually been there. It was a long time ago though... before the spaceports and stuff."The boy put on his best thinking face and continued. "There was a temple on a planet called Grimlark. The people wiped each other out, but the ruins remained. They built a temple over a lake of lava in the middle of a volcano. Crazy right? It was suspended in the air, connected to the rim of the volcano. They would sacrifice people and animals to their gods by tossing them into it from the temple. Inside the temple, on their altar was a dragon's egg. It was huge and rock solid. It had fossilized a long long time ago."He rubbed his neck. "That was probably the coolest place and treasure I've seen so far."Van slid off of the crate and then popped it open just like the other one. However, when he peaked inside, there was no bottom. He arched a brow. There was a ladder leading down into what he assumed was an underground tunnel or room of some kind. The boy turned to Niha and grinned wide. "Secret Tunnel!"He leaned back, grabbed the rim of the crate and then lifted himself off of the ground and tucked his legs in before letting himself fall inside it. He disappeared down into the hole but called out for here. "Come on down! The water's fine!"

Niha blushes warmly, hiding a soft giggle behind her hand. He had a fair point, it would probably be better to practice somewhere out in the open. They would be a little stuck if she inadvertently started a fire or sent shrapnel flying around the both of them. She was lucky that she didn't get any splinters herself from the blast. " Alright, when we get somewhere that's safer then I'll hold you to that, Van." She looks back down at the cell charges and hums quietly to herself. She wasn't sure what would be the safest way to dispose of them around here. She had heard about there being special procedures for getting rid of these things, what with batteries usually containing dangerous chemicals like acid inside of them. " That wouldn't be a bad idea, yeah. I guess someone could still assemble them if they really wanted to. If we bring them with us, then we can take them somewhere else. Somewhere where whatever's inside these things won't leak out into the water and risk hurting the fish in the ocean..." She reaches out to try to pick up the crate with the batteries, grunting softly and struggling to use what physical strength she possessed to lift it off of the ground. Niha might have the power of divine Gods running through her veins from her Other Worldly heritage, but that didn't exactly translate well to things like this. Her arms tremble under the strain from lifting it until she inevitably drops it back down on the ground with a loud thump. She exhales the breath she had been holding in, letting her normal colors return to her face. Niha wasn't going to be able to move these by herself. " Whenever we're ready to leave, just give me a hand with this and we'll get it sorted." She turns to sit down on the edge of the crate. Her chin is propped in the palms of her hands while she listens to Van recount his adventure to her. Her eyes grow wide with wonder and she leans in trying to anticipate how the story would end. The last thing she expected to hear about was a fossilized dragon egg! " Woahh, really?" She asks him, " That's absolutely incredible! I always thought that dragons were just things of legend. It must have been so hot there...it's...it's a shame about the sacrifices though." People taking it on themselves to make the Gods happy was always something that made Niha feel more uncomfortable in her own skin. It came down to the simplicity of some mortal's minds and their expectations of them. She knew that she and her people would never ask the mortals to sacrifice another living thing for their happiness, but when the wrong people come around whispering promises of power that seems to matter little. Fear and greed drove people to unreasonable lengths. " If I were one of their Gods." She mumbles in reason, twisting her lips, " Then I would have put a stop to that right away. I'd tell them...I'd tell them that they could honor be my living their lives to the fullest and through loving each other with all their hearts." She sighs out her disheartenment quietly. It was stories from centuries ago, likely from before even her conception, so there wasn't much of a point in thinking about what-ifs. " But honestly, people don't really need somebody above them to worship. I've seen people do undescribable feats all on their own determination and dedication! Most of the modern inventions have been forged through people's blood, sweat, and tears after all! I'm pretty sure that most of them didn't need Gods' help with it!" After Van exclaims that he found a secret tunnel, Niha hops up off her perch and flies over to check it out herself. " Wait!" She calls out just before he dives down into the darkness below. Both hands clutch the edge of the crate and her eyes dart around in rapid search to try to spot him. She breathes a heavy sigh of relief when he calls up to her again, and she calls back, " Don't scare me like that, Van! You could have gotten yourself hurt!" With that request made, Niha looks around the inner chamber once more before she dives down to follow Van below, landing in the water with him. She tilts her head back, taking in the sight of the deeper underground chamber with a soft whisper, " Woah, the water is a lot warmer than it is up there. Why do you think they hid the tunnel in the crate?" As she inspects the dark chamber, she reaches out to tap Van's shoulder and point him to the silhouette of a mighty ship hidden in the darkness. Niha WC: 322 "Oh wow!"Van lifts up and out of the water and floats over towards the barely noticeable shape of a large ship. He never would have seen it if Niha hadn't said something. Well, maybe he would have eventually noticed it, but he couldn't even see the dang thing! So he created a small white orb of ki energy and tossed it up high to the ceiling of the cavern. It slowed to a standstill right before hitting and illuminated the entire underwater cave. He could see little spouts that shot steam out. They must be close to a magma stream. No wonder the water was so warm down here. It was like a natural hot spring. Van floated closer to the ship. It was grand in size. He couldn't believe something like that was down here. The boy was perplexed at how it could have even been transported down. Maybe there was an opening further back... some river or something that it floated down that ended where they were. Van floated up along the side of the ship and noticed the name inscribed there. It was the ship he had been searching for. The SS Halstead! He turned to Niha and pointed at the name with a huge grin. "Look! Look!"Suddenly he heard voices and the sound of boots against the ground. His eyes widened and he immediately dispersed the energy orb. The cavern fell back into darkness and he quickly grabbed Niha by the wrist and yanked her behind a large boulder. From the other side of the large rock, Van could hear the voices growing louder as they newcomers approached. "--ot sure, but I coulda swore I heard something over here."
"You always goin' on about hearin' things down here. Thinkin' this old cave is haunted."
"I KNOW WHAT I SAW!"
"Yeah yeah... let's check real quick and get back. My food is gettin' cold."
