CHARACTER SHEET
NAME: Yama
RACE: Saiyan
AGE: Appears 60-ish (Immortal)
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 206 cm (6 ft 9 in) / 180–200 kg (400–440 lb) | In armor: 7 ft 4 in / 760 lb
APPEARANCE:
MOTIVATIONS:
Perhaps the last surviving Saiyan from Universe 2, Yama is urged back into battle after decades of retirement. He had fought and beaten everyone and anyone who would challenge him, including the Eternal Dragon, Poppura. (Unlike Shenron and Porunga, Poppura will refuse to grant any wish unless you defeat him in a one on one battle.) The only mortal to ever defeat the dragon in combat, Yama was given one wish and he wished for immortality so he could fight forever.
However, after receiving this gift of eternal life, eventually the other Saiyans turned on Yama. Whether it was jealousy or fear, the rest of his brothers and sisters saw him as a new threat. A few old comrades stuck with Yama and helped him fight back, but their civil war was short lived. Against the entirety of the Saiyan race, they small faction stood no chance.
Knowing Yama was immortal, the King of the Saiyans at the time, instead trapped him and sealed him away using some kind of dark magic.
It took him an entire decade and unimaginable willpower but eventually Yama broke free of his bonds and rushed back to get his revenge.
However, he would soon realize that in the short time he was gone, the rest of the Saiyans had been eradicated by the Supreme Kai, Xell. The Shinjin who had once fled their Universe. He came back stronger and immortal just like him. From the stories he was told, the battle was fierce but, in the end, they had all fallen to a single warrior.
With his quest for revenge nullified, Yama found a new purpose. His spirit to fight was reignited. He would do whatever he could to break through the barriers between universes and find the Supreme Kai, Xell… and defeat him!
QUIRKS:
Possessing a jolly and outgoing disposition, Yama is a rather imaginative juggernaut, always wanting to bring hope and ambition towards his allies. He lives by a code of valor and justice, much to the dismay of his Saiyan brothers and sisters. Yama joined them when they conquered planets in hopes of finding a challenger worthy to face him, but he never had much taste for subjugation.
While he was younger, he turned a blind eye to the ways of his people so long as he got to fight the strongest warrior of each planet they came across. As he grew older, he came to realize what they were doing was wrong. By that time, though, it was too little too late.
After the civil war and the defeat of the Saiyans at Xell’s hands, Yama decided he would no longer fight only for his own glory, but instead he would do what he could to lift others up and defend them against wrong-doing. He wanted to make up for all of the awful things he allowed to happen throughout his life.
Outside of battle, Yama enjoys good food and great gatherings of people. He loves to tell stories from his past adventures. His favorite pastime is working out while listening to his favorite playlists.
BONDS:
Even though he exhibits a fondness for all beings great or small, anyone Yama has ever considered a loved one is dead. On his new journey, he hopes to make new friends and allies!
BACKSTORY:
By the time the Saiyan King decided to conquer the known Universe, Yama was already a highly decorated soldier. Like most of his kind, he was forced into it at an early age. Also like the others, he was excited and anxious for the opportunity to prove himself as a warrior and to earn his own glory on the battlefield.
The King recognized Yama’s great contribution to his cause and decided to put him on the front lines and give him his own squad. They were called the Crusaders and they stood as an impenetrable wall against their foes for a large part of the war.
For decades, Yama and his team drove back entire armies on their own. They fought bravely on the battlefield and played just as hard off of it. There were always celebrations of victory after each hard-fought battle. It would be some time before Yama realized the error of his ways and the atrocities he let happen in his vain search for glory.
In fact, he had grown old by then. His body covered in scars like some ancient battlefield. His hair had greyed, he had lost an eye. His body was still just as strong as the first day he strode out onto the field of battle, but his mind and heart had grown weary and jaded.
He saw the faces of those they had conquered and beaten, the huddled masses of those who would become slaves. It drove him to leave the army and forge his own path which eventually took him to the Eternal Dragon, Poppura. Like Shenron and Porunga from Universe 7, Poppura was a feared entity that granted the wise of whoever summoned it. However, unlike the other two, Poppura would only grant your wish if you could defeat them in honorable combat.
Yama walked away from that fight with immortality and a foolish, but brave, idea to overthrow the Saiyan King and stop the expansion of his empire. The only allies he had in this fight were some of the Crusaders who had fought alongside him in the past and become like family. All the others saw his immortality as a threat. No one would ever be able to unseat him and he would reign forever. Their own wishes for glory would die before they could realize them.
So, as it went, Yama’s small group of rebels fought their way to the King of the Saiyans. It was a long and arduous battle, but in the end each and every member of his team had fallen. All of the Crusaders were dead at his feet. Still, Yama fought. He fought for them and for anyone who had ever been subjugated by his race. But in the end, it would be for nothing. The King had devised a trap and Yama fell into it as predicted. The immortal Saiyan was sealed away for nearly a decade.
When he finally got free, Yama returned not to a hostile army, but to ash and ruin. The entire Saiyan empire had been destroyed. Apparently, but just one being, the Supreme Kai… Xell. Yama remembered that Shinjin. He ran like a coward when they infiltrated his home, but returned stronger than ever and immortal as well.
On hearing this, he realized he needed to find this Supreme Kai. He wanted to fight the being that was able to take on an entire army of Saiyans and come out victorious. Not out of revenge, but out of sheer excitement. His spirit was replenished!
CALL TO ACTION:
Undoubtedly, Yama’s drive to action was the direct result of Xell’s return to Universe 2. He finished what Yama had tried to accomplish some ten years or so ago. In his heart, he knew he had nothing to give his own universe anymore. He wanted to venture out and find this Supreme Kai, face him, and defeat him in honorable combat. At last, he found someone that could challenge him.
