Night
How often had he found himself in this very spot?
Towering trees and thick jungle vines surrounded the clearing Null stood in. The nocturnal calls of the stirring critters roused from their slumber filled his ears, chittering and scampering through the undergrowth. The moon hung low and full, bathing the clearing in a soft, almost ethereal light.
The air was humid as always, the thick cloying scent of damp earth invading his sense of smell.
It smelled of... home.
He'd trained here countless times — when he first joined the Dominion, and many times after, striving to become a respectable warrior among his people.
And still, they rejected him. But no longer.
A crackle of mystic energy danced along his outstretched palm. A sinister smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. He'd left this planet as a fugitive and a failure in the eyes of his queen. Now, he returned triumphant, having acquired a power he'd long sought.
He was more than a Super Saiyan now.
He was far beyond it.
A low chuckle issued forth from his lips. Null glanced back over his shoulder, peering into the deepening shadows of the surrounding treeline.
"I know you're there."
He did not bother turning around. Showing his back would mean an insult, should it be another warrior. It was what he intended.
"Might as well show yourself. Just know I am not very patient..."

OOC: Fun little fact, I used to be in the Dominion faction with Zarytto before taking a break. :3
Ironically this felt nothing like home to Dain. When he was born it was still on planet Vegeta and even that he never considered home. Being abducted, experimented on and eventually dumped on a planet inhabited by a race of elementals. It was that planet he called home. Yet even the old, experienced bounty hunter could not help but feel it in the air.
This was were his race lived. The Saiya-Jin had never held much interest into his race, until recently. For some reason he could not stand the thought of his proud race being leaderless, having given up their other holdings and belongings.
He had stood on the frontier, as a bounty hunter though, but he had stood there. Helped the dominion conquer and defend planets. Even if he did not feel he was truly part of his own race, he could not help but stand the current state they were in. It was disturbing and recently Dain had decided to take things into his own hands. Even if it was a long way around, he would try to become king and try to lead his people. A task he was not looking forward to, he had tried his hands at an empire, yet found it to be boring in the end. He had reminded himself though it was not forever. Just for a generation or two, restore his races pride and strength, then he could simply abdicate himself and assign a worthy king.
Perhaps it would seem like a mighty goal, but for an immortal being like Dain, it would be over rather quickly.
Heh… perhaps I am growing nostalgic in my old age… Dain thought to himself as he shook his head and approached the reason he was actually here. He had done his research and found himself in the need of powerful Saiya-Jin to back him up. His prime choice was a Saiya-Jin called Null, who was rumored to be not only extremely powerful, but have a unique KI to him as well.
“Well then, I will show myself.” Dain said with a grin as the voice that had snapped him out of his thought, called again. With a snap of his fingers he transformed and his golden energy washed over the area, revealing him and the surroundings as he walked out of the bushes and towards his target.
“My my my… that is a rather unique KI indeed…” He said pondering, rubbing his chin as he laid his eyes upon the young Saiya-Jin. “Ah but my apologies. My name is Dain Sincara and I have come here to see you. I want to restore the dominion to it´s former glory and I am looking for powerful warriors, like yourself, to help me.” Dain said with a slight smell as he stopped several feet in front of Null.

Well he had to admit that this one was sharp. Recognizing his words for what they were on the spot. Though it was not as if the words swayed him though. “Careful boy!” He said with a grin on his face, as he looked at the Saiya-Jin, yet there was a dangerous fire in his eyes. “I have served the Saiya-Jin empire long before the dominion was ever founded. I watched it rise to glory and helped defend it as part of the dominion. Don´t talk to me about ruin, we are already there! We have lost our planets. We lost our queen. We have no fleet left. The army is in disarray…” He spat the words out with an anger he did not expect he harbored. Dain did not know he actually cared. Still he let his words carry of and regained his posture.
“However tell me then, how do you intend to bring back the pride of our people? You want to become like the humans? Install a government, never rise to power anymore? Shielding ourselves with diplomats and perhaps a small defensive force?” He asked curiously as the man continued talking. “More importantly… this remnant is you right? You merely mean you will lead it.” Dain said with a grin, trying to read the man.
For a moment though the grin vanished as the man powered up. Surprisingly the man did seem to power up as if transforming, but without any of the golden hair or normal traits. Instead he seemed to unleash a truly demonic KI. It might have startled him, perhaps even intimidated him, if he was not used to hanging around Amatricina, the queen of all demons. “Impressive! I can see where you got the idea, you could. That is an impressive power.” He said as he studied the young man, although his grin was slowly appearing again.
The man´s power was impressive and in his normal form, Dain might have had a problem. However in his transformed state, he could withstand it. “Look I did not came here to fight. I wanted to ask you to help me, to help our race and if not at least ask you not to get in my way. However…” He said, his grin growing in size and an intense desire burning in his eyes. “If you want to test yourself against me, I would be happy to oblige! Show me why you think you should lead our people!” He said with a grin as he clenched his fist and golden energy exploded from him, a crater forming as he powered up.
“I wonder though, you have amazing strength and I appreciate the demonic KI… but how do you think that will impress our people? For the countless ages our transformation has represented strength and power.” He said, as he waved for the man to come at him, his golden aura still lightning up the area, showing the man where to attack.

Dain witnessed the strange chant. Well perhaps not so much a chant as an idea? He wondered what was going on in the mind of his foe. What intrigued him more was what followed. “That is a noble goal, Null, one I would wish to come see true. Do you really think that is something you can stumble upon? To create a society that is that perfect, without knowing how to do it?” Dain asked slightly shaking his head, yet at the very same time as serious as he could be. It had been a long time since he met someone of his race with such conviction. At the same time the man made a proposal though and it would have been fair. Had it not been for a small detail, his loyalty already was pledged somewhere else. Ultimately though his mistress had given him free reign to do whatever in the mortal world, so he was just going to have to do that. It would simply not stand to disappoint Null and deny him a proper fight! “However you have a deal. If you win I will help you. However if I win, you will support my claim and help me rebuild the empire. Now let me show you what my claim is based up. Did you know… we Saiya-Jin have a way to go beyond?” Dain said as a grin grew on his face from ear to ear and he began to unleash his his power. A golden aura exploded around him, one Null had seen before. Bare with me, this form takes me a bit longer to take.” Dain said with a grin, biting through the pain as he clenched his fists again, digging his nails even deeper into the skin and summoned even more power. A hurricane of golden lightning shot outward from him as he reached deeper inside and unleashed the dormant power. As he gathering his power a ripple shot through the room, expelling the clouds for a moment. A deep growl escaped his lips, his fangs showing, as golden lightning began to thunder down around him. With a loud yell he let his more primitive side take over. A crater formed around him as his hair blond hair turned bright yellow, his azure eyes began to shine and the lightning wrapped itself tighter around him like a skin tight armor. This time though he delved deeper, the howl continuing as he searched for the part he had lost. He could feel the lightning in the air, the static and friction around him. Dain could even feel the electric signals run through his body, as his brain send instructions to his limbs and received feedback. “That is better…!” He growled, baring his fangs, as his energy expanded once more, his eyes turning completely white, except for the occasional lightning arcing through them. Dain could feel it, the warm comfortable sensation in his entire body. It was so familiar that he did not even have to look to confirm it. What he had lost over the centuries, he was already regaining within months under her tutelage. I´ll prove her I am worth it. He thought to himself, determined to the core, as he instinctively clenched his fist, causing electricity to arc around his arm. Where his right arm before had been flesh and blood, it had been transformed into pure golden lightning. Now along with his entire body. It was the true form of the lightning Saiya-Jin, a trick he had picked up from his parents and now the form was complete. “Sorry that took so long, it is quite tricky to get this right.” Dain said with a grin as he stood before Null. His flesh and blood body discarded to a form of pure golden lightning, that arced occasionally around him. “Oh and here is a second trick.” Lightning arced in his eyes and around his arm, as he raised his right into the air. A few bolts of lightning escaped from the tips of his fingers and into the clouds above them. As soon as they hit, the clouds turned dark and began to expand until lightning arced ominously through them. A grin appeared on his face as he snapped his finger and a bolt of lightning shot from the cloud and hit the ground with a deafening sound. For a moment steam obscured the impact point, but when it settled down there was another Dain standing around. Only rather it being made from flesh and blood, instead of Dain´s electric form. It was a perfect copy of the Saiya-Jin, down to the robe and sword on his hip. It even radiated as much energy as the original. The cloned mimicked Dain´s grin as it dashed forward, leaving a trail in the molten rock. Just as it was about to strike it vanished for a moment, only to appear above his friend Sly, it´s hands facing him and it cackled slightly as it felt the energy in the air and bound it. A field of static energy would appear around his foe, binding him if it hit. At the same time Dain released another bolt of energy from his finger tips into the cloud. For a moment the cloud growled threatening, before it began to rain down lightning bolts towards the target. “Let´s see if you have some tricks up your sleeve.” Dain growled, a deep grin adorning his face, as he tensed and took a fighting position, ready to put his back into it himself. It would simply not stand it if he only let his clone fight after all.

“No by all means, it is rare for me to get a proper challenge, so please do.” Dain said amused as he watched his foe summon a clone of his own. He was not entirely sure of the exact how and why, but he had seen enough similar techniques in his time. If the man wanted to copy him, so be it. He was actually surprised by the quality of the clone though and the fact that the man managed to copy his lightning element. “H-eh, seems there is more to you then I thought. I am impressed!” Dain said as he jumped back on his feet, looking physically unharmed. A nice bonus of having a body made of lightning. It was just a front though, as he could feel the damage the attacks had done. “You are a great fighter, Null.” Dain said loudly as he looked at the Saiya-Jin, surrounded by that intriguing aura. “Mind if I ask where you learned this technique and or fighting style?” He asked curious as he prepared himself to retaliate. Dain extended both hands into the air as if he was summoning the legendary technique called the spirit bomb. Instead though he released a rather large amount of golden lightning into the air and immediately dark clouds formed and began to expand till they covered the entire arena. It was in a way his ultimate technique, capable of erasing entire armies at the same time and although not best suited for 1 vs 1 combat, the technique should keep his foe on his toes. “This is how I will protect our people. On the battlefield I will guide them, lead them to victory and protect them. I created this technique specially to eradicate entire armies!” He said with a grin as he released another huge bolt of lightning into the dark clouds, which immediately began to rumble and grumble. Before releasing it´s payload. In a moment hundreds of lightning bolts began to rain down upon the arena, pelting the area with powerful bolts. None directly aimed at his foe, but numerous enough that anything in the area was in danger. He made sure though that the cloud did not expand too far, so it could hurt other Saiya-Jin.

Lavender lightning sparked in the wake of his clone's steps as it zipped along, each footfall scorching the dense undergrowth beneath. It dove in the way of Dain's clone, taking the brunt of the blast. It seemed almost to absorb a portion of the damage, redirecting it back at the golden Saiyan. Dropping to one knee, Null could tell it was hurting.
Null stared, awe-struck at the devastation of the lightning strikes. Smoldering craters littered the battlefield, and portions of the jungle had caught fire, sending columns of smoke unfurling into the air. The cries and alarm of the people from the nearby village reached his ears, frightened at the unnatural terror of the sudden storm.
What... have we done?
Staring at Dain, Null scowled in disgust. Is that what he looked like? Hungry for power? Hungry to rule? It was an appalling sight that twisted Null's insides. Such was the tyranny which had brought their people to the precipice of destruction.
Such a tyranny could not be allowed to rule. Even if that applied to himself.
Closing his eyes, Null focused his energy. Though the demon taint was deeply anchored into his spirit, Null fought to disperse it from his being. He did not understand demonic magic too well, unsure if it would even work. Soon, he felt a cleansing flood of natural aura flow through his being, soothing his ailing body and spirit.
When Null opened his eyes again, they seemed to glow with an inner silver light of their own. Something had changed drastically within him.
"We are fools."
His tone lost its bravado. It was a cold, listless fact.
"Saiyans such as you and I are the reason our people will never prosper. If any man or woman is going to rule, they will need more than power. They will need courage... courage even to rebuke themselves."

Dain noticed the cries of the village nearby and did realize what was happening. He might have gone a bit overboard. Luckily he did came equipped to deal with it. Although it was merely a side effect, from black thunderclouds usually also came rain. With a snap of his fingers the clouds rumbled once more and a heavy down pour started. It did nothing to help the frightened village, but at least it would not get destroyed. On the other hand though… “Is that the empire you want? Saiya-Jin who are frightened from a little thunder? You might not remember, but I do. The time when we were a warrior race, frightened by nothing. Pride and prowess guiding us. Not this… frightened sheep, crying out in terror at a storm…” He said with a grimace as he tried to block out the cries of the villagers. `At least I remember in my diaries…´ He muttered under his breath. What came next though caught him of guard. The man in front of him suddenly seemed to change. The man was right though, which surprised him. Especially “Tell you what, I do agree with you. Let me tell you a little secret. I am a lot older then I look and I am not trying to destroy our race. The best thing we can do though is give the people a goal again. Whether or not a military is used, it creates purpose. Economics. Morale. What our people need is something to believe in, to be proud of.” Dain said seriously as he lowered his hands for a moment. Once more he raised his arms and thunder began to rumble. This time though he used his senses to reach into the cloud and guide the strikes, aiming them directly at Null. Unleashing the full power of his attack at him.

The lightning clone, ever the faithful companion, intercepted another vicious lightning strike. Null threw up his guard, hiding his eyes against the blinding flash of light as a result of his clone exploding into a million motes of dissipating energy. It was almost beautiful in tandem with the light rain that fell.
Was that him? Was Null so easily disposable to Dain? Would Dain care if he killed him, or any of the people in the surrounding villages? He spoke so haughtily, and while his strength seemed to back up his claims in regards to his age, it still stirred his Saiyan blood to listen to Dain.
Something in Null finally snapped.
"You think we're sheep?"
He spoke it quietly, dangerously, his hair falling into his eyes as his tired, aching muscles became slick with rain. He began to visible tremble. Fists clenched tightly at his sides. A deep rumbling filled the air, separate from the thunder. This came from the ground beneath Null's feet, beginning to quake at his rising power.
"These are former soldiers, men and women who have sacrificed everything for our people! Too old to fight and make war, some of them scarce able to feed themselves, much less the countless number of orphans roaming the streets... you think we're sheep?!"
His power rose with his ire as Null let out a frustrated cry of anger, his aura exploding around him. The surging mystic energies could not fully purge the lingering numbing effect of Dain's lightning, but it mitigated most of the damage he'd taken from the attack. In the blink of an eye, Null had disappeared.
Only to flicker to being just inches from Dain and his clone, an orb of volatile energy charging between his cupped hands.
"I'm no sheep, but a gutter rat. And when you corner a rat, that's when we bite the hardest!"
Energy exploded from his hands in a powerful sweeping beam that cut a swath through the area. It was so wide, it would nearly engulf both Dain and his clone altogether. Null was pissed.
And he was going to make this stranger pay!

Null´s comment about sheep actually caused a stir in Dain. He had never really thought about it, but perhaps that was how he felt about the current generation of Saiya-Jin warriors. Sure there were still a few exceptions, true warriors, proud of their skill and have strength to spare. Null seemed to be one of them, but otherwise… he felt that perhaps the Saiya-Jin in this day and age resembled humans too much. As a Society. “Do you listen to yourself! We are Saiya-Jin! Physiologically superior to any other race. We don´t or barely age physically until it is time for us to die. We are not able to feed ourselves? Since when can a Saiya-Jin child no longer hunt? Since when did we start living on the streets, like feeble humans? When did we become the sheep, that can no longer take care of ourselves? We are Saiya-Jin, a proud, powerful race. We don´t live on the streets, we don´t starve! We have a physical prowess no race can match! We ARE SAIYA-JIN!” Dain bellowed back, anger rising in him with every word spoken to him. Ironically his questions weren´t all that unjustified. The race he remembered was not the one he currently saw before him. When he was young, every Saiya-Jin was strong. They did not live on the streets. Either they were soldiers or were hunting for themselves. Even as a child he had eaten the corpses of fallen victims. Whether it was his rage or simple overconfidence, but neither Dain nor the clone moved an inch as Null fired his attack. It was indeed overwhelming, engulfing the two of them standing next together completely. Had he been anyone else, the attack could probably have destroyed them. “A rat? That seems fitting… Dain´s voice came dryly from the gigantic explosion, just before he and his clone walked out. Aside from a few scrapes and his robe torn to shreds, mostly unharmed. “What can a rat do against a tiger though? Answer: about as much as a sheep. You are still merely food!” He said with a grin, before clenching his fist and his golden aura spiked, causing a small fissure to appear in the ground. He had actually made a decision, seeing Null´s resolve and might. It would have to wait till after the fight though. Without saying a further word he vanished from sight, only to appear behind Null. As he vanished his clone fired a bolt of lightning towards Null. Dain on the other hand unleashed a flurry of jabs towards the Saiya-Jins back to wear him down, before continuing it with a roundhouse kick, followed with an uppercut. If succesful he imagined the man floating for a moment above the ground and he unwrapped the tail wrapped around his wast and extended it, aiming to wrap around the man´s throat. “No worries, I won´t kill you. In return, tell me how this happened. How did our people become such a mess.” He said coldly, staring straight into Null´s eyes with a seriousness he had not experienced for a long time.

Dain's tail wrapped around Null's neck like a vice. His limbs dangled helplessly in the air between them. A nasty cut opened over his right brow, dark blood spilling into his eye, squeezed shut from its flow.
Despite this, it could not remove the smirk from Null's mouth.
It was not a smirk of defiance, or a show of disrespect.
Pain emanated throughout his throbbing body from Dain's vicious blows, his very extremities numb from the lingering effects of Dain's lightning assault. How powerful was a man who could command the very storms to obey?
It was not hubris, either, that kept the smirk fixed upon Null's face.
What had he to be proud about? Did not every venture in his life end such as this, with the snare of his enemy coiled tightly around his throat? Null reached up, grasping at Dain's tail. He possessed enough strength to pry it from around his throat, dropping to the marred ground at their feet. Gasping for breath, a raspy chuckle escaped him.
He rubbed at his throat, the skin raw where Dain's tail gripped him.
"And here I believed I could truly defeat you..."
A light seemed to fade from his gaze as Null observed their surroundings. He'd suppressed his demon taint, sought to fight in the strength of his own might... and it had availed him nothing. He met Dain's eyes once more.
"There are some things not even a Super Saiyan can do."
His smirk remained upon the realization that despite his new power, he was still worthless.
His aura flared to life as Null shot off from the ground, his aura trailing behind his powered flight. Soon he was but a star on the distant horizon, disappearing into the night.
Let Dain clean up his own mess.
