The Demon King TAGS: Tora
Tora's finger tips rammed into Lute's chest, but his aura kept them at bay. Even still, the concussive force of the blow knocked Lute back and shifted his positioning. His eye lasers flew past Tora and the voracious fighter went to bite his throat. Lute found that amusing. It seemed that the guardian of the tigers truly mimicked their hunting and fighting habits.
But, it wouldn't happen, because Tora got a mouth full of green palm. Lute pushed him back and once there was some space jerked his ki blade up into a defensive stance. The constructed weapon buzzed and snapped at the mist laden air. Lute vanished, the mist parting where he had once levitated. Tora would find himself broad-sided by a massive burst of invisible ki, rolling and rippling across the sky like a shock wave. It had enough force to pulverize stone into miniscule pieces bits of sand on impact. But, Lute doubted that would happen to his face. Rather, the attack was meant to knock the guardian off balance and force him on the defensive.
Because, the Demon King appeared again above Tora a heartbeat later, the blade held at his side. As he closed the gap, he swept it upwards in a wicked slash, attempting to separate the guardian's arm from his torso, if not just simply trying to up a gruesome instantly cauterized laceration.
It was a vicious attack, delivered without remorse. It was now clear that Lute wanted to end this just as much as Tora did.
To him, defeat was not an option.

A torrent of invisible ki was sent hurtling towards Tora no Seishin, who deftly zanzokened to safety. A moment later, the grim faced Demon King slashed towards him with his crackling ki blade. He could feel the heat from the blade as he narrowly evaded the slash- Tora was getting worried. He was running out of breath, stamina and patience. Although, something about this fight was invigorating. Lute continued to surprise him with his durability and dedication. Tora knew he was reaching a pivotal point in this fight. He had to keep the pressure on without expending too much of his energy. The only way to do that was to keep this as a brawl- the Tiger knew he'd have to drain Lute of his stamina quicker than his own could run out. With focus he closed in towards his foe, beginning a combination by aiming a savage knee to his midsection. Then he would target Lute's face with a pair of slashes, hoping to catch the Demon King off guard. The youthful fighter had no more time to waste. He hoped that the swift combination attack would he enough to catch Lute off guard. Without a lucky break, Tora might just die here. That realization made Tora shake with excitement- this was a real fight. Tooth and nail- quite literally for Tora. All the while his master watch intently, injured rather intensely. Still he could move, although barely. He saw how hard it was for Tora to stand up against the larger man. Tracker Sa 1 and 2 missed! 2 dmg from overwhelmed! The Demon King TAGS: Tora Somehow this human, this boy was still resisting everything Lute threw at him. Patience was a resource. One Lute had a decent amount of. But, as this fight wore on, as he spent more and more energy trying to overcome someone inferior to him--it grew thin.
Paper thin.
Tora replied with a knee to Lute's gut. He threw a palm in the way, stopping it. The force of their two limbs colliding parted the mists for a moment. The follow-up slashes came in and Lute grabbed the back of his head, tucking it behind his forearms. They the sharp nails lashed across his forearm, which were enshrouded still by his wavering aura and defended.
He retreated, flying backwards in a blur of motion. The forest canopy rolled below him as he propelled. Sucking back breath, Lute channeled ki into his palm. It crackled and buzzed with the raw energy, primed and ready to go. Thrusting his arm out he unleashed an enormous wave straight Tora. it was raw destructive potential, rolling forward as a searing hot omen.
The blast was reckless, far more so than he had been earlier in the fight. But, perhaps it was actual desperation setting in. The ragged wave disintegrated trees, birds, and anything else caught in its path as it reached Tora. Behind it left a blackened line of wilderness, a smoldering scar.
The island was beginning to suffer from their battle. No doubt Tora would realize that.
Grimacing, Lute landed on the charred earth. In his opposite hand the ki blade still hummed. He swung his arm up and released it as a purple arc, which would trail across the sky like a waning crescent moon, threatening to splay Tora open on impact.

Tora evaded an explosive attack from the Demon King almost insinctively- however, he hadn't considered the repercussions. A burning swath was cut into the land, gouging into it and killing any life in its path. Tora felt the life signatures of three tigers from his pack fade into nothing, along with countless other creatures. Still acting on instinct, the martial artist sidestepped the slash that Lute followed up with, his eyes gleaming with indescribable pain and rage. Tora had already failed. His old master hadn't been fast enough- injured from the last interception, he couldn't do much but fail to get there in time. The old tiger watched as his apprentice prepared his counter-attack. The same mist from earlier burst around Tora, rising like steam from his overworked muscles as he seethed in silent fury. Then, without warning, he dematerialized with unnatural speed, attempting to grab onto Lute's wrist and pull him close. If successful, Tora would grip down with crushing force, digging his claws into the man's arm. Then, he would repeatedly attempt to hammer his fist into Lute's chest, seemingly desiring to punch straight through the man. He focused his ki so intently, the intention matched his desire to brutalize his opponent. The entire time, Tora reflected on his failure. Just how much had been destroyed? He hadn't even had time to really check. Why did it have to be this island? His peaceful home? Tora just didn't understand. He had done nothing wrong- the same with his friends, the animals who populated this island. They were all innocent. This man had come here to take that innocence away from them. Tora just wouldn't- no, he couldn't allow it. The youth gritted his teeth as he kept hammering away at the Namekian. Tracker Sa 1 and 2 missed! 2 dmg from overwhelmed! The Demon King TAGS: Tora
No, Tora wasn't a human.
He was a beast, wild and untamed. Lute could see it in his eyes as a clawed hand gripped into his arms. He felt it with each hammer-like blow that struck his chest. The blows forced him down, the blackened earth below them giving way. It spread in a massive circular crater that kept growing wider and deeper each time. The pressures of their auras were too much for even matter to stay together close by.
It didn't matter what Lute wanted, nor how much he tried. Somehow, Tora was wearing him down. It wouldn't be long, not at this rate. Lute had to do something, had to make a dent in the guardian.
His entire body would begin to glow amethyst. Tora would feel an immense heat off of his foe. That was the only warning before Lute exploded.
His ki erupted like an atomic bomb. The crater they stood in was blown apart. The shockwave rippled outwards for half a mile in every direction. This section of the island was already scored and warped from Lute's previous attack, and the region was disintegrated in an instant.
After the attack was over, the only thing left was a giant smoking chasm, from which more lava boiled forth casting it in a hellish orange glow.
The Demon King formed a long spear of purple ki and lunged, teeth bared at Tora. He tried to drive it into the center of his chest, impaling and driving him back towards the yawning mouth of the newly formed caldera.

Now standing in the crater formed from his last attack, Tora felt an incredible heat as his foe began emitting pure malicious energy. Tora didn't know what to do- he really didn't. This entire region was about to go up in flames from an explosive burst- it had already been destroyed, but this chunk would literally remove this section of the Earth. The martial artist rapidly evaded the blast, but the Earth was punished. Lava burst forth from the wound, and Tora yelled at the top of his lungs at the enemy, now charging him. Tora didn't dodge completely this time- he couldn't. The ki spear impaled him, he barely managed to keep it from killing him instantly. The youth coughed up blood, but rapidly struck a few points on his body near the wound; suddenly his muscles tightened and the blood flow stopped in that area, slowing his bleeding. This destruction was why he hated the average ki user. Even a weakling could summon the strength to perform devastating destruction to the natural environment. Usually Tora held enough restraint to solely target his foe- the Earth rarely felt the consequences of his Tiger Style. But this level of devastation was unnecessary. Unforgivable. Being forced towards the freshly opened volcanic pit formed by his attack, Tora wrestles with his foe. He attempted to have his tail wrap around Lute's leg, ensnaring the Demon King. The proximity of his aura was harmful, and the mist swirling around Tora threatened to be devoured by the darkness. Tora didn't care. He slashed at the Namekian a few times before literally flipping over, using all of his body weight and his tail as a tool to attempt to toss the larger man with incredible force. Right towards the pit the Demon King had just created. "Burn." he said, quietly, with contempt. Tracker Sa 1 dodge w RM and SA 2 hit! The Demon King TAGS: Tora
Tora's tail went for Lute's leg. The Demon King vanished, leaving behind a wobbling image where he once stood. Usually, he didn't waste ki on evasion. He had his stubborn defense to keep him protected, his resolute aura. After he appeared a good distance away, but the gap was closed before he could get his bearings. Tora was furious now, that was clear. But, Lute was too, he wasn't going to be bested by this animal.
Not today.
Droplets of sweat trickled down his hairless brow. He had expended an absurd amount of energy in this fight. His aura had weakened, to the point that it no longer flowed and burned around him. It only escaped his pores in tiny dark wisps as he moved.
More claw slashes, of which he stopped by interjecting his fingertips above the wrist. He was concentrating now, doing his best to avoid and escape harm. He was vulnerable.
He flickered from sight again, leaving behind his lingering image once more. This time he appeared half-way across the island. The area was a quiet glade beside a looming mountain. A stream cascaded from a cliff above, splashing into a mist enshrouded pool. It was cool here, quiet. The Demon King knew Tora would lend chase, but took a second to gather himself.
He readied his energy spear, twirling it and lowering into a fighting stance. As soon as Tora came into line of sight, he launched himself at the guardian. He swept the spear across the body in a wide slash, the end of would cut like a razor sharp piece of glass.
"Hrah!"

Tora felt like a beast being hunted when Lute charged at him with a spear after the pair phased halfway across the island. With the speed and grace of his namesake, he narrowly avoided his foe, expanding energy at a rapid pace. Tora felt himself tiring. Sustaining all this power was difficult. In fact- he wasn't quite sure how much longer he'd be able to fight. Even if this man was now vulnerable, it didn't mean Tora would win. The Demon King's energy reserves seemed limitless in comparison to Tora's dwindling power. Still, it didn't matter. Tora would fight at full strength, even if it cost him his life. Dying here wasn't an option. Not whatsoever. The martial artist displayed a prowess that not many of his kind could achieve, materializing behind his foe and slashing at his back. Despite his fast paced movements, Tora's injuries were catching up to him. Crimson blood dripped sowly from the wounds- if not for his focus, he would've bled out ages ago. Sustaining this was taxing. But he had to. What was hard was standing up. Fighting was easy. Tora aimed a punch at his opponents lower back, bafore following up with a spinning kick. He hoped to send Lute flying back to the other side of the island where the destruction had already taken place. Tora felt like he was juggling far too much at once. His old master was struggling to even move- fights at this level were tough for the old man. Tora understood that. Still, how exactly would he beat this foe at this rate? He would be exhausted if he kept sustaining the level of power he was at. The mist on his body was wavering, threatening today drain him of his remaining stamina at any moment. This was a real brawl now. It could go either way. Either of them could die here. Or both. Tracker Sa 1 dodge w RM! 2 dmg from overwhelmed! The Demon King TAGS: Tora
An attack from behind! Lute swiftly whipped around, using his leg to stop the incoming slash. He managed to push Tora back, but there was not enough power behind it to cause any damage. Still, being able to mitigate the blow was enough. Tora's claws had proven just as deadly and sharp as a real tiger's.
It seemed the guardian danced like a boxer, dipping from view like a ghost in the corner of one's periphery. Lute lost track of his movements for a brief second, only to get a punch into his spine. Reeling, he managed to get his arms up in time to stop the follow-up spinning back kick.
Despite the fact that Lute guarded against it, that didn't stop the attack from having blown him back. He went flying, skimming across the top of the canopy before plunging into it. Trees snapped and whipped at his back. He burst through several of them before streaking across the caldera and slamming into the inner wall of it.
He laid there in a Lute shaped hole, just breathing. His chest rose and fell in ragged with ragged. For the first time in a long time, the Demon King just felt like staying there in his hole. Even with the blistering heat of the bubbling lava below, it was rather comfortable.
No!
He shook his head, fighting exhaustion and apathy. The rage inside of him gushed forth again and he snarled. He kicked off from the innner wall of the caldera like a rocket leaving the station, collapsing the wall with the concussive force. Tons of rock fell into the lava with a massive splash, slinging wave of super-heated rock into the air. Globs of it hissed and shrieked, splattering all across the island. If not for the wet vegetation and dense mists, it would have started blazing forest fires within seconds.
Tora was lucky, for once.
"Raahhhh! Come Tora, face the end."
Bold words, but Lute didn't care. He had to amp himself up, just to stay in the fight. He had dropped his ki spear at some point during the fray, but it was no matter for him to form a new one. He tried a low thrust this time, attempting to punch through Tora's thigh. And then he withdrew the tip with blazing speed, changing hands. Like a serpent's sting, the tip of the thrumming weapon lashed again, this time a shot for the meat of Tora's neck.

After sending his foe flying, Tora made his way to the caldera, appearing just in time to see Lute sit there for a moment. Then, he rose to his feet, brandishing a freshly formed ki spear. With a roar he invited Tora to face the end- which he may just have introduced him to in that moment if Tora didn't evade the first attack. It left him desperately low on leftover power however- he could do nothing against the second strike besides ensure that it only dug into the flesh of his shoulder. However, the effect was instantaneous. Tora was stripped of movement in his right arm- his primary arm. That was the one he tended to favor. The Earthling grunted in pain as he stepped back, blood spraying from the freshly opened wound. Surprisingly, the heat hadn't cauterized the wound. Tora cursed the Namekian. This Demon King was like a wrecking ball- he had come to his planet, and had begun to wreak havoc. While Tora had lived in fear of creatures like Carambolis, he couldn't help but admit he was naive. Here was a foe that was a real threat to him. To everything he believed in. Not some veiled threat like the now-deceased Emperor. Tora no Seishin clutched at his wounded shoulder for a second, hissing in pain as he narrowed his eyes. "Alright, alright... You want this to end... So do I..." he said, between ragged breaths. He was getting tired. But it just wouldn't slow him, or his advance. Now with only one arm, he unleashed an unpredictable head-on assault, almost dancing around as he nimbly attacked his foe. Kicks, feints from his teil, slashes, punches- everything he could muster in this assault. Meanwhile, his old master had evaporated into the air, returning into the mist. Tora's power was waning-but it was all with purpose. He already was powerless compared to his foe. At least now he could save energy and utilize it at a more fitting point, instead of just wasting it as he desperately searched for an opening. Now wounded, the Demon King seemed to be seeing through Tora's techniques. The potential of the being in front of him astounded Tora. For some reason he felt as though he was looking not into a man, but into an abyss. In front of him was cataclysm itself, seething with rage and fury. Tora had to bury him- and end this useless confrontation. He had no choice here. Victory was a necessity. If he lost, he would lose more than just his life. This was everything he had ever known- perhaps it was that naivete that had led him to such desperation in this fight. "I'll show you the end!" he yelled as he struck. The Demon King TAGS: Tora
Lute used his ki spear twirling it and interjecting its haft between himself and Tora to ward attacks. It came to this, to him having to defend himself the old fashioned way. It had been a long time since he brawled like this, since someone shattered his aura technique and forced him on the back foot. But, he wasn't going to give up. The Demon King would prove as relentless as his foe. He would fight to the bitter end.
Why?
This had been a pointless endeavor, had been a simple task. He could have found another creature to present, another gift. Yet, he stood his ground for something so nonsensical.
That doubt, that nagging question lingered at the back of his mind. Then again the more he thought about it, the more he realized he had been looking to prove himself his entire life. Since the days when his elders underestimated him, when his brothers looked down on him. He pushed forward, he mastered the scared arts, he did everything he could to surpass his peers. And, they held him back on purpose. They refused to recognized his hard earned skill. They spat in his face.
So, he took it in his own hands. He did what he had to, he shirked them and set out on his own. He discovered many truths.
Each battle, each strife that he engaged in was a rung on the ladder. Lute had to keep climbing if he ever wanted to free this universe from the gods, if he wanted to see a pristine and restored natural existence. A true universe. There was nothing more important to him.
The blows that Tora rained against him started to form cracks and pits in the ki construct of his spear. Lute withdrew it and lunged forward for one final thrust. As he did, whether he missed or not, the weapon would shatter like glass.
Glinting shards of raw purple ki floated through the air, still holding together in their constructed shape. Using his telekinetic powers he would fling them at Tora at high speed, attempting to embed each razor sharp piece into his flesh.

To Tora he saw his foe relearning how to fight; at first, without his aura to protect him the Demon King seemed vulnerable. Now... The brutish warrior had deftly guarded against Tora's onslaught, leaving Tora exhausted and reeling for breath. In his exhausted state and vulnerable, the seemingly inspired Demon King came for him, perhaps seeing Tora's current weakness. The youth barely had enough energy to protect himself- strangely enough, upon focusing himself the martial artist chose to take something out of his foes' playbook. Tora's misty aura hardened for a brief moment, over one singular spot. It wasn't much, but it was enough to prevent Tora from being impaled- he was merely slammed with great kinetic force as the weapon shattered against his guard. But the shards hovered in the air, looming menacingly for but a moment. Then they came for him, shredding at his body. He barely hard time to guard himself, protecting his eyes and vulnerable areas as best he could. After the attack, he was clearly injured. Cuts had opened all over his body, and some of the armor on him evaporated into mist. Whatever was left hardly clung to him, cracked and broken. His claws had broken, and his right arm still hung limply at his side, blood pouring more obviously out of the wound. Tora staggered, almost drunkenly, as he slurred his words to his opponent: "..you... You! You're one twisted bastard... I don't know what drove you this... what self fulfilling bullshit you're on... but you're wrong... life matters more than this..! More than you or your twisted sense of entitlement! You... you can't just own life! That's the biggest... biggest mistake that whatever Gods exist made... when they gave us thoughts... and feelings... we don't deserve... free will! Look what..." he stammered, choking on his own blood as his aura redoubled in intensity. "Look what you've done with your strength! All for what? You think... you're more important... than everyone else?" He gestured around them, to the destruction. The bubbling lava beneath them. He hoped the Demon King would understand what he was saying- life was important. Dashing at the Namekian, Tora aimed a left hook at Lute's jaw, followed by an elbow down into the man's collar bone. "You have this great power and this is how you use it?!" yelled Tora as he finished the combination attack with a fierce headbutt, aiming to smash in the Namekian's face with whatever limbs he had left. The Demon King TAGS: Tora
Lute glowered at Tora with true contempt.
For the entire length of their brawl, he had nothing but respect for his foe. Tora had surprised him around every corner, had proven to be a skilled warrior. Lute fought back with everything he had, giving it all--because he had to. But, those words... they caused a twinge inside of the Demon King. It could be seen on his face, the usual ferocious expression he wore melting into cold, heartless, contempt.
"Own life?" he said, his voice a coarse whisper rising into a vengeful tide. "You mistake me at every beat Tora No Seishin. You're wrong. The GODS are the ones who think they own life. They've meddled in our affairs, they trap our souls for all eternity, and they make us forget the very truth about life's meaning. They're a sickness, an abomination. They've twisted this universe and set upon it like a malignant cancer."
Both of his eyes shifted from their dark chocolate to a piercing scarlet. The aura which moments prior had been a wispy remnant surged to life. This time it wasn't amethyst, rather a sickening black ooze. It poured out of his flesh, wriggling and slithering like worms. The hellish landscape they fought over would shift. The lava below bubbled with greater intensity and gushed forth in great scorching pillars towards the sky.
The entire world around them rumbled and shook. Lute's full power had awakened.
The left hook came and Lute simply dipped his head out of the way, calm and collected. Next the elbow strike, which he caught with his arm outstretched--using only his index finger.
The writhing aura stopped and formed a hardened cocoon. Lute would drop like a brick into the lava, a hissing and steaming splash the only thing left behind. Tora would notice the caldera expanding, fissures spreading out from its various craggy bluffs and corners. Dark clouds rolled in overhead, spitting forth crimson bolts of lighting that crashed all over the island and the ocean beyond it.
In a single flash of bright purple the entire caldera exploded like an atomic bomb went off. Lava was thrown thousands of feet into the air and would rain down all over the island, bringing true hell with it.
Emerging out of the smoldering pool was Pure Demon Lute, a new form, one he never tapped into prior. His skin was no longer green, rather a sullen ashy gray. His eyes were completely red and they pulsated with wicked intent, the whites having disappeared completely. The fangs in his mouth were elongated, his ears sharpened even further and fraying at the tips. Deep veins pulsated with a sickly yellow blood throughout his arms and on his torso. A single ridge of bone rose from the top of his head, his antenna having simply melted away.
"You lived among the tigers Tora. You've seen the truth of their existence. What is it that they care the most about? What is it that makes them an apex hunter, that lets them survive the harshness of their home?"
Lute's voice reverberated and doubled, as though hundreds of beings were speaking from his lips. Globs of lava and chunks pelted and scored the earth. The caldera expanded to the ocean, which spilled in as an enormous cascading waterfall. As it hit the super heated rock, great plumes of steam rolled upwards into the sky.
"Strength."
Lute was gone. There was no indication of motion, as with his typical speed bursts. His power level had risen to an absurd level, compared to before. Before Tora would be able to finish blinking, the Demon King was in front of him.
"That is what matters, that is the reason life exists. To get stronger, to adapt, to evolve past previous limitations. The gods have taken that instinct from most mortals, have stripped them and left them with a false sense of saftey. If they die, it will be all right. They'll live in eternal bliss, or be punished for their wickedness. Their audacity, thinking they can contain us. Well, I am living proof that life cannot be contained. It will find a way to crush anything in its path. Even beings as powerful and as omnipotent as gods."
He smiled, his wicked fangs revealed.
"Yes, I will see the gods shattered and broken, before I take my last breath. I will free this universe of their treachery. I will restore nature and life to its original state, to its true purpose."
Black ki swirled around his hand, folding in on itself at a rapid pace. He lunged forward and threw out a massive punch aimed right at Tora's midsection. The blow was intended to fold the warrior and send him flying into the side of the burning mountain beyond the hellscape.

Tora's own eyes narrowed at Lute's as the Demon King began to glare at him, his expression darkening. Then the man spoke- of Tora's own mistakes. Of a philosophy on Gods- which, unbeknownst to Tora had triggered this rage. Perhaps this man was right. Tora did not understand. He had only been told of the Gods by Amatracina, the Demoness he had encountered. She was not a creature he particularly trusted- however, this man... He seemed mortal. He called himself a Demon King, but his emotions, his very ideology. It was about strength. The acquisition of strength is the most humanizing ideal that Tora could sympathize with. He saw not a man in front of him- but a boy, desperate grasping at the strength of their father. Despite the violence, desipte the destruction... This man had a point. This Demon King. He intended to prove it by force. A cataclysmic transformation had gone underway as Lute pushed his own power to levels that Tora had never before witnessed. The very air seemed to rot, as did his foes visage. It was as if pure corruption flowed through this man, threatening to burst out of him at any moment- but he tamed it. Tora could see an ocean of hate in the man's now completely red eyes. And he had unleashed it- this devastation. With his lectures towards a man he really didn't understand. What if he was right? The Tigers--... They were much like this man. They killed. Hunted. Took what wasn't theirs, ruined families. He had seen the horrors of nature displayed before him many times- he was no stranger to blood. Or death. The very island itself was nearly plunged into the caldera as it expanded and threatened to consume the earth. Tora shuddered at the destruction. Then it got worse. With a flash of light, hellfire rained down on the island. Tora had to shut off his senses, tears welling in his eyes. Lute had brought something to this island with him, something Tora lived in constant fear of. Death. Tora had seen his fair share of it. Lute materialized in front of him, as simply as Tora would take a breath. There was no tell of movement. No flash of speed. Just... Unnatural strength. A hunger, a deep well opened up in the pit of Tora's stomach as he eyed this 'Demon King'. As he eyed -the- Demon King. Had fate placed them in each other's path for a reason? Were they to kill each other, to banish each other to the darkest realms of the afterlife? Tora no Seishin growled, the very presence of this man crippling in nature. Lute finished his speech, describing his impossible goal: "Yes, I will see the gods shattered and broken, before I take my last breath. I will free this universe of their treachery. I will restore nature and life to its original state, to its true purpose." Then he came for Tora like death, a terrible black ki surrounding his hand. Tora wasn't sure if it was fate, or if it was skill- or just plain luck. But somehow, at the last moment, he sidestepped it. It was exhausting- draining to even be caught in the wake of this mans auric onslaught. But fortunately Tora had evaded the strike, speaking as he did. He was reminded of his fears of Emperor Carambolis, and of the Emperor Polaris. Of men who coveted power for the wrong reason, who detested freedom. This man was the opposite. In a strange way, they were the same. Tora couldn't deny it any longer. That thought... Horrified him. Yet, satisfied him. If they were the same, than Tora was capable of the same levels of strength. If not today, then someday. A sickening feeling overtook the Earthling, as he managed to finally talk: "...You're right, you know..!" he said, surprisingly. He wasn't even sure why he said it. "Damn you, but you're right in your own, twisted way..." Without hesitating, he counterattacked. A harsh elbow aimed at the man's back, followed up with a desperate kick to his left leg. Finally if the behemoth was knocked off balance he would focus as much ki into his functioning claw as he could- and attempt to bury it into the Namekian's chest. "Life can't be contained! Strength IS all that there is! But you will NOT have this island!" he roared as he attacked. This could decide the very fate of this battle. Of his life. "I won't give up a single friend to you, King of Demons! And I wouldn't give one to God himself!" Despite his injuries, despite the odds stacked against him, Tora's assault was desperate, fueled by his situation. He attacked like a man possessed, despite his waning strength. And it was waning. Tora could hardly move. Hardly breathe. But he just had to win! Too many had died here, all because of Tora's foolish pride. Part of him wished he had just said yes. But Tora didn't want to give up. Or regret his choices up to now. It wasn't an option anymore! Tracker Sa 1 missed! 2 dmg from overwhelmed! The Demon King TAGS: Tora
This wasn't reality.
Lute couldn't accept it.
He had released it all. Every ounce of power he had obtained these long months, sucking it away from Hollow. That attack should have ended Tora, left him a ruined mess. Yet, his fist was meeting nothing but air.
How is this bastard so damn fast?
Astounded, the Pure Demon Lute's red eyes went wide as Tora followed up with an elbow that dug into his spine. Blood erupted from his nose and mouth. He went flying like a missile and hit the charred remnants of the forest face first. It wasn't pretty, the helpless Demon King burrowing a massive trench. His arm shot out and he shoved it into the soil and brush, slowing his momentum.
He skidded to a stop on the beach and laid there in the sand, his insipid aura fluttering about him. It took effort for him to get back up. It took sheer willpower. Knees shaking, he rose. Tora didn't relent, instead appeared and kicked at him. Lute managed to get his guard up, but stumbled back. He was dazed and it was everything he could do to stop the claw strike from piercing into the flesh of his chest, grabbing Tora by the wrist.
More black ki slithered around his free hand and he shot forward attempting to take Tora by the throat, and simply choke him.
"I wont lose to you! NEVER!" Lute shrieked.
He wheezed and coughed, splattering blood like yellow ichor on the human's face. His pure Pure Demon form was staring to wane, his flesh peeling and flaking away, revealing green beneath. This was it. If it didn't end now, it would end a heartbeat later.

Tendrils of pure ki wrapped around Tora's throat, just as he was moments from claiming victory. He still desperately grasped at his foe, yet it was to no avail. Now being strangled amidst the burning remains of his home, Tora saw his mife flash before his eyes. Pain swelled up in his gut, and his vision began to blur. He couldn't even feel the ichor touch his skin, numbness overtaking sensation.
Tora... felt like he was dying. It seemed like he was as well. He dropped out of his transformed state, armor shattering against the ground. His temporary healing dissipated as well. Blood sprayed from wounds that reopened, draining from the injured fighter's frame. The once proud fighter was now broken and maimed. He gasped desperately but was unable to take a breath despite his effort.
He had failed yet again. Another loss. Tora no Seishin imagined his dreams all extinguished- which they were moments from being. What reason would this man spare him? Tora could've traded a tiger for his life in the beginning. One tiger.
Now the survivors would struggle to sustain themselves on the wounded island. Tora wouldn't be able to stand with them any longer, it seemed. The last thing he felt before he faded into unconsciousness was shame.
During these last few moments, clouds had gathered above the island. Just as Tora slipped into darkness, rain began to fall, slowly at first. It sizzled against the burning scar in the earth, and the rainwater mixed with the blood on Tora's body, making it run thin. Tora's clenched fist relaxed and his while body went completely limp, finally.
The Demon King had bested the Tiger.

The Demon King TAGS: Tora
Lute discarded Tora onto the sandy beach. Rain drops beat against his face and naked shoulders. The brave warrior, the one who had faced a titan and stood his ground, was shattered. The battle was over.
The Demon King's body shuddered, his Pure Demon form flaking and bubbling away. The storm that rolled in came with heavy gusts of wind, which carried the bits of his deadened flesh off of him. He was ordinary once again, albeit battle worn to say the least. His red cape was nothing more than scraps clinging to his neck. His torso and face were covered in bloody claw marks and deep bruises, purple blood oozing from each laceration and split.
Now that the excitement and rush of his power surge was over, he lurched forward, almost falling onto his face. But, sheer willpower kept him on his feet. That and confusion. Despite having broken his foe in one final push, he didn't feel like he won the fight.
He felt like he lost.
All his power, all the dark energy he had gathered had been meaningless in the face of Tora's sheer guts. Strength, the very thing that drove him day in and day out, had been worthless. Tora, a man who was leagues below him had been on the brink of casting him down.
How did that happen?
How does any of this make sense?
The island rumbled and churned with volcanic activity. It didn't look like the pristine mist enshrouded wilderness it had been at the beginning of their encounter. Rather, it was a wasteland of burning trees and spreading lava. Half of it had been destroyed, he wagered.
From the smoke laden ruin emerged a dozen or so giant tigers. Lute froze, marveled at the magnificent beasts. They were more beautiful than he ever imagined. Sure, most were covered in soot, and looked battered. But, they were alive and had survived the cataclysm. The tigers stood in a single row, all staring back at Lute. It was a small army, one he didn't really feel like he had the strength to defeat. Their teeth were bared and their backs hunched as though they were ready to pounce, to strike him dead and tear him to bloody ribbons. Here were beasts, hungry predators, daring hunters. Here were animals, who only knew out to hunt, kill, and survive. Yet, they were coming to the defense of this shattered guardian of theirs. Just as he had for them.
A voice rose from a faint whisper in the back of his mind. This voice Lute had not heard in years, it seemed.
Tora's impressive capabilities come from his devotion to this place. You know how ki works, Lute. You studied under the elders. Genki, Yuki, and Shoki, the three aspects. You know that Tora's Yuki was beyond anything. His will, his courage. You gather power because you're afraid. Because of that you'll never amount to anything. You'll die eventually, having wasted your life pursuing nothing. You'll always be defeated by those that are complete, that are able to form that unbreakable triangle through bonds with others.
The words were from Horn. No, not the identity he used when parading around as a Imperial Patrolmen, the real Horn. The one he had fused with all those years ago on New Namek. The one he had cheated in a fight against and almost killed. Lute had absorbed Horn, out of guilt. He hadn't been stronger than the Warrior Clansmen. No, he had been clever and malicious. Horn hadn't deserved his fate, so Lute begged him to join with him.
All these years, he had been carrying Horn around, suppressing him. There had been moments when his judgement shone through.
Think of your friends, Horn said.
Lute saw Kuueru, he saw Cam, he witnessed Sawba, and Kaijin. Marte and Hachi also flashed into his mind's eye. He pretended he cared nothing for this people, he used them as tools to accomplish his goals. Yet, they had been the key all along. They had been the missing piece.
He held his hand up, squeezing his weakened fist.
"Easy," he said to the beasts. "I'm going to take him to the mountain spring, so he can heal. He's yours."
Reaching down, he scooped Tora up and took flight. It wasn't easy, in his state to carry the broken warrior over the burning island, but he did. Wind buffeted him, dared to throw him of track, but he kept moving forward. Lute remembered the waterfall, the serene place he landed in earlier. He took Tora there.
Floating down, he landed and set his foe in the babbling pool. Tora's head would lie against the rocky bank. The clean spring water would rush over his tattered form, crimson streaming as it washed his blood away.
Lute then put a single finger atop Tora's forehead and used the ancient healing arts he learned so long ago. The incantation was still fresh in his mind, even though he hadn't healed someone in a long time. Once complete, he levitated back into the air and stared at the massive burning caldera. It was spreading at this point, threatening to swallow this sacred place. Lute left Tora to recover, as he fully intended on salvaging this island with the last bits of power he had left.

Cold water rushing over his wounded frame startled Tora into consciousness. For a moment he wondered- had he died? Looking around, he realized he could not move. His body was far too maimed. Which meant one thing: he was alive.
But why? Why would the self-proclaimed Demon King spare him? No matter how hard he tried to answer that question, he just... couldn't. There was no logical reason why the man he had just been fighting would spare him. Beyond that, Tora could still sense his presence on the island. Nearby, in fact. Faint and flickering, a fraction of what it had been before.
The Earthling was confused. Surely he could've already grabbed a tiger and ran? Desperate to move, Tora shifted his weight and tried to rise to his feet. Crippling pain coursed through his broken and beaten body as he struggled- for a moment it seemed like he would rise to his feet. Then with a white hot flash of agony, he splashed back down into the water.
Damn. Fighting against Lute had really put a number on him. By all accounts, he should be dead. Tora just couldn't place it- why was he still among the living? Some of the younger tigers had gathered around the base of the waterfall, as if watching over the youthful martial artist. The cubs stared at him with soft eyes.
In the end it had all been worth it. These creatures were bold and strong, yes. But in this world of monsters, such creatures needed protection. A guardian. Beauty is coveted, and they are beautiful beasts nonetheless. Shifting his weight painfully, Tora leaned his upper body against a larger rock, effectively sitting up. Taking a deep breath, he glanced around his island, happy that the clouds had parted from earlier. The sun shone on him, warming his chilled frame.
"... it was all worth it for this, it really was..." he mumbled to himself, basking in the natural beauty of his island. A life without his home would not be a life worth living. The youth had realized, and accepted that. It was just another fact of life.
Still one question kept nagging at the Earthling. Why was he still alive? And what was Lute doing on the island now? Tora's weakened hand clenched into a fist, as he cursed his lack of strength. If only he could move, he could investigate.
But for now, he'd just have to learn patience...

The Demon King TAGS: Tora
Lute had truly become a monster. He had drifted so far, been consumed so long by hate. He didn't know himself. For the first time in his life, he didn't have an answer or a plan for what to do next. The only instinct he felt was to purge himself of this corruption, to start over. To seek a sort of penance. But, where would that leave him? Would he even be considered Demon King anymore? Probably not. By getting rid of his dark energy, he would be left leagues weaker than he was now. Everything about it was fundamental to his fighting style. He would have to teach himself again. It would be starting from the ground up.
Confusion and uncertainty wouldn't help him with this though. No, he needed to remember his training, to clear his mind.
He closed his eyes, letting the wind and rain crash against him. He focused, reaching out with his hand. Below, the caldera continued to churn and bubble. The edges of it were eroding away at an alarming rate. Off in the distance, he gripped the ocean with his telekinetic power. Like a massive blanket, he let his energy spread over it.
And then, he pushed. It was like a giant paddle. The ocean swayed, but didn't relent. Lute expelled his thoughts, purged his doubts. He needed to align only on his task, nothing more. The questions, the fear, that could always be addressed afterward.
It wasn't easy. Minutes ticked by as he struggled with his own mind. Finally, it clicked. The solace of focus swam over him. It was just him, his energy, and the task. That was all, nothing more and nothing less.
The ocean swayed again, this time harder. He needed to redouble his efforts. The blanket wouldn't do, no he needed a sharp wall. The telekinetic construct couldn't be seen by the eye, but as he thrust it down into the sea it hit the very floor. The entire area surged forward with violent force. The mass of water rolled towards the island, swelling in size until it was a tidal wave. It reached the edge of the caldera and descended in a streaming massive torrent.
It was like pouring water into a very hot frying pan, but thousands of times worse. The water beat down upon the bubbling lava, casting massive undulating clouds of steam to fill the sky. The lava cooled at a rapid pace, hardening. What had been a lake of fire was quickly reduced to a pit of hot black stone. Still, Lute knew that more lava would bubble up. The thin layer of hardened rock wasn't at all a real barricade. No, he need to form a plug.
Off in the distance he spotted a smaller island. It was just a speck at this distance. But, it was definitely big enough to serve this purpose. It would be an enormous task. Gravity made it astoundingly difficult. Sure, he had moved around asteroids in deep space with his telekinesis, but the planet's mass and pull just exacerbated the issue. Like most islands, this one was merely a mountainous mound beneath the sea that had broken the surface. He needed only tear off the tip of the underwater summit, not the entire mountain itself.
Purple blood shot out of his noise as he strained. The dark aura shot from his pores as a violent black flame. The storm that had formed early started to part, cast away by his raw power. The sky rippled around him, folding and swelling. He was bending the very fabric of space by doing this, but it didn't matter. The only thing that mattered now was salvaging Tiger Island, before it was too late.
The distant island was ripped from its laurels and thrust into the sky. It moved slowly over the sea, dripping loose bits of rock and stone. It arrived at Tiger Island and Lute let it drop into the caldera. It was an awkward fit, the top of it covered in trees, grass, and probably very freighted wildlife. He did his best to shave off the sides of it before it landed. The collision roared across the island as rock grinded against rock.
But, all was said and done. The caldera was clogged, and the lost tract of land replaced.
Lute sighed as his aura dissipated, what little of it left venting out of him in one last swirling burst. Both of his arms fell limp to his side. His efforts didn't solve everything. There was no way he could perfectly fix the island. But, it was enough. The rest of it would heal and regrow on its own. Nature always had a way of recovering, even from the worst of calamities. All it needed was time. Holding out his hand, he watched the last smoky wisps of his corruption trail away from him. It was surprisingly easy to let go of the power he worked so hard to obtain. Perhaps that was a sign. A sign that it was never his own power. It had been a crutch. One he would no longer rely on. No, Lute aspired to be like Tora now. To rely on his own strength and to protect what he cared about. In the end, that would make him leagues stronger than he had been prior.
He glanced at the serene spring once more, the place he had laid Tora to heal. All he managed was a frown, before flying off. He needed to find somewhere to rest and recover. He needed to meditate, think, and plan his next moves.

Tora still couldn't move. With desperation, he tried to regather himself. But alas, it was to no avail. He felt the Demon King's power resurge, redoubling to where it had been prior. The Tiger of Earth felt a small cub of a thing nuzzle up to him in the water, the tiny feline mewing and shivering in fright. The youth held the small animal close, petting it softly, hoping to relax the little creature.
But he felt like the end was coming.
When the island began to hiss and bubble from the direction of the volcanic caldera that had opened up, Tora was puzzled. What was this Demon King doing? Desperation set in, and he felt a sliver of his strength return to him. Just a drop. Not even enough to take flight- just enough to stand, albeit shakily. It was like a breath could knock him down at this point.
The Demon King's strength had reached a newfound height. The earth began to shake as Tora witnessed something incredible, making his way to the edge of the devastation. The very land itself had become slave to Lute's will- however it seemed that the purpose behind it was not destructive. This man had turned his power into a force of creation. The dark malevolent energy swirled around him- Tora had finally made out his frame in the distance.
Why? Why was he doing this? Tora still lived, and now this man was repairing his island, trying to undo the devastation? He had left the top of a mountain, complete with vegetation awkwardly sitting in the wound he had created on his island. To an onlooker it would look strange.
To Tora no Seishin it looked brilliant. As he felt the demonic essence evaporate from the man he had just battled against, he realized what had happened. Lute had changed from fighting against Tora. Had his words actually touched this man? The Tiger of Earth stood there, wide eyed and surprised. He had been right? Of course he had.
These were the values instilled in him by the Tiger School. The character he had inherited from his old master before he died. A will of iron. A heart of gold. A tongue of silver. The three qualities he had been raised to value above all. Hope blossomed in his belly, a beautiful feeling. Lute had taught Tora something.
Tora could help people just by being himself. That feeling made up for every droplet of blood he had spilled, every minute he had spent honing his craft. This island was important to Tora- and he was right to protect it. But why stop there? Tora loved the Earth and its inhabitants. In reality..? Tora loved all living things in this universe.
He recalled his own words about free will. That they didn't deserve it... Still, they had it. And they could make the right choice, like Lute had. Respect and admiration replaced contempt and hatred in Tora's heart. This man had taught him so much about change. It can be in an instant. Tora had nearly changed- in the moment that he felt himself lose, he had felt a pang of something. A touch of real hatred for the first time. It was sickening- even when he woke up, the fear and hate he felt made him... jaded.
Until Lute expelled his strength to save the island, and everything Tora loved. It didn't make up for the lives that were lost- but Tora forgave the man. He understood the mistake he had made, finally.
Tora didn't blame him. It was in another life. Somehow, despite it all, the youth was happy for the first time in a while. He smiled at Lute, as he saw him glance in his direction. Tora gave him a corny thumbs up, as the little cub that was nestled in his arms mewed, happy things had calmed down. The jungle would heal.
People matter, too. And the man Tora had just fought was an incredible one. Perhaps the most impressive person he had ever encountered. If he had really cast away every ounce of his dark power, Lute would never become the thing he despised the most. He would find love wherever he went.
"Next time we fight at your place!" he yelled, rather loudly, as his old challenger flew away. Tora laughed gently, sitting down and looking at Lute's handiwork.
"Yeah, this is nice..." he said softly, appreciating the metaphor. He rested his working hand on the little kitten and laid back, thinking about the future he wanted. In it, he saw a world where everyone worked together and realized what really mattered. Tora hoped he'd be able to help other people think like him, to see the world for the way it really is. After a brush with death, he had learned so much.
Things could really be different. People can change. Tora finally fell asleep in the grass, exhausted, dreaming of a peaceful life filled with friends and good food.
