“Hi and bye!” Dain said emotionless as he appeared on the bridge of the freighter, before firing the gun in his hand and shooting the helmsman straight in the head. Before the crew could respond he had already drawn his sword. His energy spiked for a mere second, causing the ship to tremble and when the glow in his eyes vanished a moment later, the entire bridge crew was dead. “… and that was supposed to be the hard part…” He said with a disappointed scoff as he made his way to the main console on the bridge. From inside one of the many pockets in his brown kimono he pulled a small black device and attached it to the console. His fingers pressed a few buttons and moments later the device began to hum slightly and countless lines of code began to run through the main console. And bingo is my name, I guess that is it. The Saiya-Jin thought with a small smile on his face as he reached for a cigarette and lit it, as he watched how the security doors of the bridge closed and the internal defenses of the ship activated. Moments later he began to hear gun fire through-out the ship, followed by the screams of the ships crew, as their own defenses were slaughtering them and within thirty seconds the silence returned. Heh, new record! He thought to himself as he tapped the watch on his wrist. 53,7 seconds. The process had taken some time, but this was the fifteenth military freighter he hijacked, so he had taken the liberty of improving his technique every time. Perhaps it was a good thing this was the last one and his contract had been fulfilled, because he was afraid this job had officially became a bit stale and more. All he had to do now was steer the ship towards the meeting place, deliver it and receive his bounty. At the current pace that would roughly take a day and he was just about to make himself comfortable when the black device began beeping loudly and he could hear more gunfire. Careless Dain shrugged his shoulders as he sat down, confident that perhaps a wounded soldier managed to get up, but as the fire kept continuing and getting rapidly closer to his position he raised an eyebrow. He quickly took a look at the screen, only to confirm there was one single presence on this ship still alive and it was rapidly making it´s way to his position. “I´ll be damned…” He said with a grin as he got up from the chair and made his way towards the bridge door to anticipate this new arrival. This could actually get a bit interesting for a change. With a grin as wide as his face he plucked a little golden bottle from his hip, took a big sip and returned it, before crossing his arms and waited. He was familiar with the expression that a watched pot would never boil, but he had a distinct feeling this pot was going to and rather violent for that matter. WC: 525 Legume

As Legume's dinky and bumpy, but nevertheless working spaceship made its way across the empty outer space of the Galaxy, clusters of stars speeding past the windows in the control room one after the other and reflecting themselves on the Saiyan's face vefore vanishing behind the vessel's trail, a new thought popped in the accidental future traveller's mind.
You know... with most of the infrastructure in this Galaxy of the past being concentrated on the planets' surfaces, passing spaceship traffic being almost miniscule and few, if any artificial structures in the way, the entire Galaxy felt... empty. You could travel for days, maybe weeks, and not notice a single living being, or even a power level signature. Everyone was just so sedentary, do you get it? And yet, at the same time, you could almost imagine this Galaxy as being a lot more natural than the one from which Legume came from. All of the stars surrounding his spaceship were open, none of them were built up with solar panel Dyson spheres, and none of the planets were turned into open mineral mines, thousands of spaceships and mining drones buzzing around them and extracting entire hemispheres worth of material in a few months.
It was almost refreshing, could you imagine that? Like being thrusted into a Galaxy of cavemen and being forced to survive off scraps and raw meat.
Thankfully, Legume's thought about being able to travel for weeks without meeting anyone did not prove to be correct in this specific instance, as suddenly the control panels in front of the Saiyan beeped to life, informing about a distress call coming from a nearby freighter - a brief one, seemingly because whoever was making that call got their life cut short before they could send anything meaningful.
"What the?!.." Legume muttered, closing his eyes and focusing on his ki senses. Quickly, he located a concentration of large and small power levels a few million kilometers away from here.
And the number of those small power levels was rapidly dimming.
Well.
If that's not the call-sign of a yet anothe crew of space pirates taking advantage of the chaotic nature of the Galaxy for their own gain, then Legume had no idea what would be.
Perhaps it's ironic that in the last Galactic election he witnessed before being sucked in here, the main talking point was the rise of crime between the federation's systems... Oh, you sweet summer children, you have no idea what Legume has gotten the chance to see in the past...
"Okay, just... don't fly off to the next quadrant while I'm away, okay?" Legume muttered to the spaceship as he placed his right index and middle finger on his forehead. Truth be told, he still had little idea how these ancient spaceships are supposed to operate. They don't work on muons, that's for sure... Moments later, the Saiyan suddenly vanished, and as soon as he reappeared on bright white tiles elsewhere, he was immediately showered by open fire from several turrets installed across the corridor of the spaceship.
Grunting a little, Legume responded by releasing several wide swings with Vanity, which sent a powerful airburst across the corridor and popped the machines firing upon him. Okay... Now that that's settled, what do we have here?
There were several uniformed corpses at Legume's feet, all of them seemingly from the same faction, so this was less of a battle and more of a massacre. The ship's internal defenses open fire on any intruders. There didn't seem to be any other spaceships attached to the freighter. And there's only a single power level present on the spaceship, a fairly noticeable one, in what seemed to be the control room of the vessel.
Okay, we'll solve this mystery as we go. Legume thought to himself as he began running across the corridors of the freighter, encountering more and more turrets with each sharp turn or staircase he made, and responding to all of them the same way - with a wide sword swing to blow the bastards away.

As the fighter was drawing closer and taking out more and more of the automated defenses, effortlessly it seemed, Dain had to make a decision. He quickly walked back towards the main console, deactivated the automated defenses and opened the bridge doors. He had taken the ship with almost no collateral damage and he had no intention to let someone undo all his work. All one minute of it… Still there was something odd about the intruder. As he spread out his senses and focused on the fighter he learned several things. For one that he was most likely male, based on the way he moved. Secondly this intruder had not been on board when he seized the ship. He had scanned and observed the ship from the long range sensors and there had been no indication anyone on board was this strong. The more he focused the more he got the impression that this intruder had strength far beyond most mortals. It was all just assumptions and gut feelings, but he had learned to trust them. What disturbed him more was though was the feeling he got. That something was wrong. Dain had no idea what, but the closer the intruder got, the more the hairs on the back of his neck were starting to stand up. “Dear intruder, I shut down the automated defenses and opened the door to the bridge. If you want to talk or stop me, please come and see me there. I would prefer it if there was no further need to destroy the ship I worked so hard to take.” Dain said with a neutral tone as he heard the bridge doors unlock and slide open. From inside his pocket he drew one of his black cigarettes and lit it as he sat down in the captains chair and turned towards the now open doors. Little rings of smoke came from his cigarette as he patiently waited, going through his options at the same time. He was far too experienced to be actually worried, as he had learned a long time ago that remaining calm was far more effective than panicking. Still his options were limited inside the cargo ship and if the intruder was even half as strong as he believed he was, a direct fight would not be an option. They would tear the ship asunder, quicker than a pack of starving wolves devour a bunny. Although… perhaps that was also his best option. “Welcome. Can I offer you something? A cigarette, a drink? A cigar? I am pretty sure I even saw a food replicator in the corner.” Dain said calmly as the intruder made it´s way onto the bridge. He ignored his instincts and instead kept sitting motionless in his chair aside from inhaling and blowing rings of black smoke into the air. “My name is Dain and currently in control of the ship. Now we can talk or we can fight, though I would like to point out that fighting in here would most likely destroy the ship you are, I presume, trying to save. He continued calmly, before extinguishing the cigarette under hit feet and calmly waited for the response. “Your call…”[/color

As Legume made his way across the ship's corridors, navigating by checking which of the corridors he's going through haven't had their defensive installations destroyed yet, he figured that sooner or later, whoever was the bearer of the power level in the ship's bridge should be aware of his presence by now. These suspicions proved correct, as when the Saiyan warrior finally made his way to the top floor of the spaceship, he noticed that the turrets there stopped firing upon him.
They couldn't have ran out of bullets or something, right? A voice which soon called out to him, echoing across the blank white corridors, confirmed exactly that:
"Dear intruder, I shut down the automated defenses and opened the door to the bridge. If you want to talk or stop me, please come and see me there. I would prefer it if there was no further need to destroy the ship I worked so hard to take."
As if to signify the man's point, one of the doors in the distance suddenly opened, and Legume began to make his way towards it.
Worked so hard to take?
Clearly, this meant that this spaceship was not originally his, and seeing as Legume had made his way past dozens of uniformed corpses before, the man speaking was most likely also the person responsible for all of the deaths he had come across on the way - which was already starting to get the Saiyan's body boiling a little.
Immediately as Legume stepped into the control room and the perpetrator of the crime showed his face, the Saiyan witnessed that it was one of his own. A fellow Saiyan, slightly shorter than him, but intimidating nonetheless, with a cigarette at hand and speaking about how his name is Dain and that he is the current operator of the ship. Right, a Saiyan, those existed in the distant past, too... although they fulfilled a far different role in Galactic society than the one they did in Legume's time, a much less pleasant one.
Well, if introducing themselves is the name of the game here, then let's play.
"My name is Legume." he spoke, removing Vanity from his shoulder and letting the ten foot long greatsword rest on the ground instead, the tip of the massive weapon smacking the floor with a loud thud. Acting as judge, jury and executioner at once was a role Legume had little experience in playing, he was much more comfortable with his more moderate role in the Galactic military, but if he's going to be fixing this society of the past, then he's not going to be escaping any of that.
"I'm going to start by asking you a question - what motivation drove you to all of this, Dain? It will have to be really damn righteous to justify slaughtering the crew of an entire spaceship."
Dain was correct, there was little room for maneuver and using the full extent of Legume's power is probably going to break this spaceship entirely. But the Saiyan figured that there was a chance to resolve this without firing a shot.

A Saiya-Jin? It was the first thought that crossed his mind, followed by how freaking huge the sword was he was carrying. What was even more puzzling were the words that came from his mouth. He had heard about good Saiya-Jin, but this was just plain civilized. As if the words were coming from the mouth of a human. The moment he laid eyes upon him though he confirmed his suspicion, they could never duke it out on board the ship. Luckily it seemed the man was willing to talk. The only problem was that he was unsure of how he could pacify the situation. Or at least move the action away from the ship. To get himself a few more seconds he drew another cigarette from his pocket and lit it. To remain as nonthreatening as he could he remained seated though and gestured Legume to take a seat himself if he wanted. “Well to be honest I don´t have a good reason. It is simply a job, I am a hired gun and this time I am being paid to hijack this military freighter.” He said as he inhaled deeply, taking a few more seconds. “What do you want to hear? That this is an evil freighter or that these soldiers were all murderers? Technically that would be true, but I guess that depends who you´d ask. Ask the ones under siege and who these guns are going to be used against, they are evil. Ask the people they belong to and you would be told they are heroes trying to quell a rebellion.” He responded as a small smile played around his lips. It was not even a lie. He was never told what he was doing, but his reconnaissance had told him at least that much. It was the reason why he was so effective as a mercenary. He understood all too well that there were no heroes, nor evil people in a conflict. Just two sides believing to fight for the right cause and only the current morales of the universe dictated what is right and wrong. Morales that tend to change all the time. Most famous the death penalty, which seemed to flip sides constantly about whether it was right or wrong. “Do you want me to tell you I am sorry about killing military personal or that I regret it?” He asked with that faint smile still playing around his mouth. “Let me ask you something, if this freighter I stole would save thousands of lives, would that make it acceptable?” He said as he slowly stood up, his hands raised were Legume could see them as he slowly began to walk towards him.. Dain knew how to make his way with words, but his profession was far from honorable. A bounty hunter? That wasn't even a real profession in Legume's time, only something occasionally mentioned in history books. If a some sort of priority was placed on a person or an organization, then that matter would be handled by the police or, in the worst cases, the military, not individuals acting with extrajudicial powers. Granted, he was currently an individual acting with extrajudicial powers as well... but that's different, okay?
Either way, Legume knew very well that you can seldom trust the words and promises of a man who is only in it for the money. If he had any at his hands, he might have considered paying Dain off to have him vacate the spaceship and not take on something similar again... but that's clearly not happening. Not that Dain would have likely accepted such a prospect - one could imagine that theft and murder are important sources of income for these types, and he didn't even consider himself doing a bad thing in this situation.
After all, at the very least the Saiyan bounty hunter stated one true fact - as this Galaxy is so fragmented and divided between so many separate factions each with their own morality and goals, there is no universal code of laws to abide by and nothing to inform the people what is right or wrong. From one person's perspective, what Dain did here might be righteous and from an another person's perspective, it would be not. Not that murder is ever justified except in extreme circumstances like war. And Dain was clearly not waging a war here. He was enriching himself.
When the Saiyan bounty hunter stood up from his seat and began walking forward, offering to take this freighter to save thousands of lives, Legume raised his hand and spoke:
"Halt."
Alright, let's put my best policeman impression.
Whether or not Dain followed the order, Legume would continue:
"I'm not going to trust a man who's only in it for the money to save innocent people. Especially not one who barely seems to feel anything when he's ended dozens of lives right before this conversation."
There were a few options available with dealing the situation, but few of them would lead to a peaceful outcome. The one which the Saiyan warrior chose was:
"Sir, I demand you to vacate this spaceship immediately."

Dain chuckled loudly as Legume inferred he was in it to save the innocent. “My dear Legume, please don´t take this the wrong way, but I honestly don´t care about the innocent or the guilty. As I pointed out everyone is both, depending on whom you ask. The words came jovially out of his mind as he cocked his head slightly to the right and gave Legume a big grin. The man was smart though not to trust him and stay on his guard. Even if Dain had no intention at all to kill a fellow Saiya-Jin for no good reason -aka he was not being paid for it- he would also not hesitate to plant the knife hidden in his sleeve in Legume´s heart if the chance presented itself. Actually, something Legume said gave him an idea. “I might be willing to comply and leave the ship. I have no intention to fight you, that was not in my contract.” He said as he stopped a few feet away from the other Saiya-Jin, his hands still were they could be seen. “Could you please identify yourself though? For all I know you are just some other pirate trying to bluff my out of my prize. So please tell me on whose authority I should leave my prize. He said as he lowered his right hand and grabbed the little golden flask attached to his hip and took a sip. He enjoyed the strong taste of whiskey as it rolled over his tongue and immediately began to warm him. For a moment Dain wondered if Legume would care to share. Perhaps it could lower the tension a bit? “Care for a drop? It´s real Irish whiskey.” Dain said as he lobbed the flask to Legume. There was a palpable tension in the air and although he tried to hide it a bead of sweat ran down Dain´s neck. He had to find a way for both of them to leave this ship, so no harm would come to his prize, but he was still drawing a bloody blank in his mind. Legume seemed to strong to be forced, smart to be persuaded and integer to be bribed. “Look can we talk about this as a gentleman?”WC: 375 Total Word Count: 1,900 Legume

Dain's response was dual - first, he offered Legume to introduce himself more fully, to make sure that he is not simply an another pirate or bounty hunter aiming to steal his prize from him, and second, he offered Legume a flask of whiskey to slightly diffuse the tension which has pent up between the two. Irish whiskey, apparently. The Saiyan didn't know what the word "Irish" was supposed to mean, but sure, he's not going to say no to a glass. But if Dain was thinking of getting his adversary drunk and thus sleazing out that way, then he better prepare himself to be a little disappointed, because drinking, despite officially being illegal, was far from uncommon among soldiers of the Galactic Army and Legume had plenty of experience in staying up glass after glass...
And hey, if he's going to be trying to fix this society he's been thrust into, then it would actually be quite beneficial to show a soft side every once in a while. Reform by example. Even if acceptin Dain's offer could also be considered a sign of weakness.
"...Sure, I can go for a glass." Legume muttered, stretching his hand forward and letting the filled flask float to his grip, and took a sip. "There isn't much I can say or identify about myself, because I've only been in this Galaxy for... a few weeks, at most? But regarding the authority I represent... the only authority I follow is the rule of law."
Legume finished his flask and lightly threw it back towards Dain, then continued:
"Once you vacate this spaceship, it will be returned to its original owner and the authorities informed about your actions, so a normal court process may begin and necessary actions taken against you. That's how the law works."

Now it was getting ridiculous. Dain was happy to see Legume was loose enough to be able to enjoy a drink, although he had not expected the man to finish it in one sip. Still he grinned as he caught the flask with one hand and could not help but notice the man was not all that bad. At the very least he had the decency to ask him, rather than come in here with his sword swinging. So at the core he believed the man to be reasonable, which is why his statement caused his left eyebrow to be raised slightly as he gave the man a questioning look. “Well I can at the very least respect your intention, but I will have to decline your generous offer.” He said, the grin still plastered on his face. “Unless you can tell me to which of the tens of thousands of authorities you want to take me, that you believe would represent this rule of law. Heck even in this solar system I could point out three different governing bodies that have very different views about the law.” Dain said as he shrugged his shoulders. It was not even a lie he was telling and that bothered him. This man did not seem to represent a certain faction, but rather the law in general, which made no sense. Just a few weeks ago he took part in a mission in the Xelopion system in the far side of the Northern Quadrant and there fighting was a must. Even to be considered a man, you had to proof your worth by killing an enemy. Even as a bounty hunter he had prove himself and- -suddenly it hit him. “Wait you have only been in this Galaxy? a couple of weeks?” He suddenly asked confused as he mustered the man again. Dain had heard rumors about parallel universes or alternate dimensions, but he had never believed in those. That was just too far fetched… but it would explain how Legume could utter such ideological worlds that did not seem to fit the reality. There also was another problem now that he thought about it. Perhaps that is why Legume did not recognize it, but this ships design was not of this area. Unlike the organic ships the races around here used, this ship was completely mechanical and surpassed the native technology by a few centuries. Even Dain did not know who the rightful owners were. It was a fair point and he wondered what would come up if he researched this ships history, but he doubted that Legume would be able to return it to the original owners. It was an argument the Saiya-Jin decided not to bring up though as it was doubtful he would ever be able to convince the man of that. Instead he decided he would counter him with his own words. From inside his pocket he dug up a document, careful to make his movements slow and visible to prevent it looking like a threat. With a flick of the wrist he threw it Legume. It was the standard contract he had been given, stating that he was working for the military. “My dear Legume, as you can this document states the people I work for have declared martial law and according to that law it is allowed to hi-jack enemy ships if the government decides the ship poses a threat to the state or it´s people.” Dain said as he was still trying to buy time. There was no doubt that he man´s conviction was strong, but perhaps he could crack the definition of law. “So once more I ask you, which law do you accuse me of breaking?” He saw friendly, trying to laugh disarming as he casually took a few steps forward. "That's..." Legume muttered, raising an eyebrow at Dain's statement that the Saiyan would sturuggle to decide on which authority to drag the bounty hunter to, as the Galaxy was populated by myriads of different systems of laws, several of which inhabited this solar system alone. "That's... not how laws work. If this ship belonged to someone, then it's in accordance to their laws that you would be tried under, not anyone else's, even if the crime took place in a third nation."
At least, that's how Legume presumed laws are supposed to work. The Galactic Military had courses on basic law which the Saiyan attended, but, as you might imagine, it was a very basic and shallow course. They didn't delve into complications such as these - not the last because it would be completely unnecessary, as there was no other authority in the entire Galaxy to contend. God, and he's only making himself look bad by making these presumtions in front of this Saiyan from the past... Especially since Dain continued by mentioning that the nation he is working for as a bounty hunter had declared martial law and sanctioned the hijacking of any enemy ships which they might come across.
But this is where Legume suddenly caught an opportunity. Because, if we're talking about the conduct of war, then there actually were universal regulations to abide...
"Okay. But what about the conventions on the humane conduct of war?" the Saiyan suddennly spoke, his eyes beaming towards Dain, while a slight smirk formed on his face. "Those are something even mercenaries and bounty hunters like you, Mr. Dain, have to abide. And if you were to read those conventions, you would notice that among all of the tenets, there's one which requires combatants to not take up on unnecessary murder of civilians and defenseless opponents. Which is exactly what you failed to do here. None of the staff of the freighter you hijacked were a threat to you, and yet, instead of merely taking them hostage or taking them as prisoners of war, you slaughtered them all needlessly. What is your defense on that?"

Dain let out a soft sigh as Legume had found another argument to make his point. The problem was however that Dain knew the man was right, he simply did not care much about the lives of others. “Legume, please don´t take this the wrong way, but I disagree. I have fought in more wars then I can remember, as a mercenary I have been into the darkest pits of society and I have done things I will never be able to forget.” Dain said wearily as he involuntarily rubbed the temples of his head as some memories rushed into his mind. “From what I have seen I think that convention is an ideological dream the rich and royal dreamed up.” Dain said as he shrugged and pulled a black cigarette from his pocket. The chemicals in the cigarette were rather unhealthy, but he had found them to be calming. “Do you want one?” Dain asked friendly as he tapped on the package to one cigarette slid halfway out and with the package in his hand he began walking towards Legume to offer him one. Still the discussion was almost over. Dain knew all to well that Legume´s points were valid and that there was nothing much he could say that would sway him. After all he did kill those men and regardless of the law or conventions, he had not a clue how he could persuade the man that killing was a good thing. Even as scarred and uncaring as he was, even he was not cynical enough to believe that. “However… I agree with you that killing is bad in general, it is a waste. What would have happened though if I had simply captured them and delivered them with the freighter into the hands of their enemy. Yes I killed them, but in less then a minute it was over. Would they have been better off if captured?” He said neutral as he closed the last bit of distance between them. It was another point of useless debate, something far cleverer people had been debating about for centuries without agreeing. In fact he was beginning to believe it was pointless. “Look Legume, for what it is worth I think you are correct and I don´t want to argue with you all day. Is there any other way this can end this, without me going to jail? Because that is the one thing that will never happen.” Dain said with a sigh as he gave up the persuasion game and shrugged. Dain's first answer, stating that the conventions on the humane conduct of war were nothing but an unachievable dream thought up by the rich, confused Legume to no end, and the sword wielding Saiyan, raising an eyebrow, replied:
"What do you mean?"
Serious, what does he mean by that? That the nations and armies of the past did not bother with the regulations of war and instead fought in a free for all? That would make this Galaxy even more of a dystopia. What, are you telling me that the soldiers and officers serving during these times had no qualms with murdering civilians, executing prisoners of war and conducting mass atrocities with nobody bothering to persecute them for any of that? It would be the worst possible offense in the Galaxy where Legume served as a soldier! Something which would see you instantly dragged to a war crimes tribunal, for sure. And Dain didn't hold these regulations in any regard, apparently.
Terrifying.
Dain seemed to have given up on the discussion, however. Both of them could tell that Legume's morals were unyielding and he was not going to be swayed by any of the bounty hunter's arguments, so after an attempt to challenge the sword wielding Saiyan by stating that all of the people he murdered on the ship would not have fared much better if they were taken prisoner and sent to the faction which hired the mercenary, Dain went completely in the opposite direction. Starting to bargain with Legume, requesting what he could possibly do to not fall behind bars. It was such a juxtaposition with the Saiyan's usual act that it genuinely made Legume let out a laugh.
"That'd be convenient, wouldn't it? You commit a crime, but instead of suffering the consequences of such an act, you get out of it scot free." the sword wielding Saiyan replied, still snickering a little. "You could have considered those consequences when taking on the job or when you made the decision to murder defenseless people, but no, you're only worried when it's too late and you have been caught red handed."
This whole chain of events has honestly been kind of odd. Legume expected a lot more resistance when he first teleported into a ship. Not a debate on the right of law in this chaotic galaxy.
"I'm surprised that you haven't tried to resist, actually." Legume's words echoed his thoughts. "Don't the Saiyans during your time have a some sort of code of honor and a lust for battle? Giving up feels like a violation of that to me."

Dain looked serious for a moment as Legume asked what he had meant. He still needed a few feet, but this question warranted answer. “It means that those conventions have been thought up by the people far away from the front. Do you think soldiers care in the middle of battle? Imagine this, you have been defending a position for two weeks and by the time you are victorious you have seen almost every soldier next to you die. Your friends and comrades, killed one by one by an unrelenting enemy. What do you think what happens when you capture that enemy? Would you shrug and take him prisoner or would you…?” Dain said seriously as he stared Legume straight in the eyes, letting his voice trail of on purpose so the Saiya-Jin could fill in the rest himself. “Yes the conventions are a nice thing, but do you think that the soldiers in the front lines, who have been dying and suffering, really believe they are what truly matters?” He continued as the veins in his jaws and neck popped up, while anger began to mix in his voice. The Saiya-Jin could not help but feel a wave of anger wash up as Legume kept talking. It was as if he was talking to a naive ten year old. He had participated in many wars and none of them seemed to have been about preserving human life. What Legume said next though quickly helped subside that anger as it made him chuckle. “Yeah you are right, it is odd.” Dain said with a grin as he dashed forward, crossing the remaining three feet in the blink of an eye, just far enough to touch the saiyans shoulder. At the same time his hands moved towards his forehead and in the split second the tips of the fingers from his other hand touched it, they vanished. A moment later they appeared in a small town on the nearest planet to them. Instantly Dain spread out his senses, but even with his experience he was unable to detect the ship that was now completely devoid of life signs. “Now here we can properly `talk´, Legume!” Dain said with a grin as his eyes lit up, with the emphasis on the word talk. Instantly his energy flared, his pitch black energy swells out of him like a thick fog around and begins falling down like a cloud of liquid nitrogen. As he powers up it begins to ripple violently and as it starts to ripple more, tiny arcs of black lightning start to form between the ripples. Meanwhile he had quickly assessed the surroundings. It was an emerging civilization, probably roughly around the steam era, but definitely a long time before space flight. The city mainly seemed to be made of brick houses and metal pipes seemed to be running everywhere. The road they were standing in made of ordinary cobble stone and from what he gathered the main use of transportation, some animal form he did not recognize. They seemed to be a mixture between an ostrich and a hippo, which oddly resulted in a strangely sleek animal and rather fast from what he just saw. “Legume answer one more question for me though.” Dain said in the middle of powering up as he realized what the saiyan in front of him had just said something very odd. “What do you mean with `YOUR´ time?” He asked in a curious, meanwhile letting his senses stretch out. Hmmm barely over thirty thousand… that is okay in terms of collateral damage I guess. In the end all he would need to do was stall long enough for the ship to fly to on auto pilot to it´s destination and complete the contract. WC: 650 Total Word Count: 3,600 Legume

Legume tilted his head a little when Dain mentioned a scenario where all the rules and regulations of war would be for naught, and began speaking:
"Of course I can tell that such a situation would be complicated, and that's where the psyche of the living being comes to play. You can't be truly good or evil, or right or wrong, in that scenario... but I believe that's where the needless in 'needless slaughter of opponents unable to fight back' comes into play, and-"
During Legume's long tirade, Dain had apparently been doing something - walking towards him, having apparently decided on a plan of operations, and before the armed Saiyan could protest or step back, the bounty hunter suddenly tapped on his shoulder, the environment around them instantly turning completely different. It was no more the insides of a captured freighter, but rather, the outskirts of what seemed like a village so primitive and downtrodden that Legume might have assumed he was transported to an archeological exhibition were there no live beings around them and if he was not focused on something else. There's no debate about it, he has been teleported. Apparently, Dain knew that technique as well.
And now, since there were no other power level signatures left on that spaceship, it was gone completely from Legume's radar, much like his own spaceship. Well. He's gonna need a new ship, then. Right after he deals with Dain.
The first thing which the bounty hunter wanted to know before the two Saiyans inevitably enter into a fight is what he meant with the statement "his time". Legume's time. Darn, his careless speech must have betrayed that at some point. Legume sighed a little, then his face formed a slight smirk - the sword wielding Saiyan raised Vanity to the sky, cracks of pure white energy popping in and out of existence around his frame, intensifying with each second.
"Well, the only thing I can say is... you caught me. But prepare for something which you will struggle to believe." Legume muttered, then suddenly stabbed his massive weapon straight into the ground in front of him with a loud crack, letting it sink until its handle lowered until the Saiyan's torso, at which point he stopped and clenched onto the handle with both of his hands. The cracks of energy around his body transformed into a whole aura, a pure white, fiery one, picking up rubble and dust scattered across the dirt road beneath his feet.
"I am not, as you might imagine, from the same time as you. I was born in the 41st millenium according to your system of time keeping, in a peaceful, unified, orderly Galaxy. Through an event which I am still slightly ashamed of, I accidentally ended up thrown forty thousand years to the past, to this primitive, chaotic, dystopian era - and I have decided to do everything in my ability to make this brave new world I've been forced to call my home a better place.
As for what abilities I use for that goal... well, how about this?"
The white aura around his body suddenly burst in a bright flash of light, the white rapidly shifting colors and trasforming to pure golden, and once the flare faded away, Legume stood with a faint, flowing light golden aura, in his Super Saiyan transformation, a set of azure eyes staring towards Dain.
"To put it shortly, teleporting me away to have a one on one match is the worst decision you have made in your life."

Time travel! That was a first, even for a being who had experienced and seen as much as Dain. Had it been anyone else the Saiya-Jin would probably have dismayed it instantly… but it made sense in a way. He had met many `good´ being before and even a god, but none that could as easily spout the believes he had. If it was true what Legume was saying -and let´s face it, he HAD heard more ridiculous claims- it would just explain to much. As he was contemplating the words of Legume, he barely noticed the man powering up until his aura turned completely white and rubble was scattered everywhere. Dain´s eyes trembled slightly as he felt the power coming from Legume grow with each second to the point it was evens stronger then his. Still it was not too bad. At least until a bright flash of light burst forth from the man and white turned into gold. “Oh Shi-” Dain began to exclaim, but was cut off as the wave of energy washed over him and he was forced to raise his hands in front of him to protect himself. Even despite his best efforts he felt himself sliding backwards over the pavement, his wooden sandals futile searching for grip. “I must say I am most impressed Legume.” Dain said as it was over and a bead of sweat formed on his forehead as he stared into the familiar azure eyes. This was definitely not what he had signed up for when he took the contract… and yet. “I am afraid though that this was not the worst, but in fact a rather good one. You just managed to set my ancient Saiya-Jin blood on fire. He replied as the astonished look on his face turned into a demonic grin as he spread out his feet and began to gather his own power. The black aura began to condensate the further he powered up, completed with a deep growl, until it began to condense and arc around his body as black lightning. You see, you are not the only one who can do that little trick.” He said as he clenched his fist and a primal roar escaped his throat as he allowed the rage buried deep within him to surge forward. Pillars of golden light erupted from around him and the black lightning turned golden, before wrapping itself around him as a living armor. His long sleek hair rose up and streams of lightning ran through it. His eyes turned completely black until their was no iris left, only miniature arcs of lightning flashing through him. The deeper he searched for power, the louder his scream became and more energetic the lightning crackled around him. As he was about to reach the pinnacle of his power he a flash of golden light expanded around him, creating a crater around him and then it was over. With a grin on his face Dain appeared as the golden lightning faded and with an air of confidence he began to walk towards Legume. “You know, this might actually be fun.” Dain said as he felt the power running through every fiber of his body. He knew Legume was a bit stronger then him, but raw power was not everything and he wanted to see what a super saiyan from that era could do. He was just about to dash forward when he was suddenly woken from his thoughts by the screams of a woman and suddenly he became aware everyone in the street was looking at them. They had effectively stopped everyone dead in it´s tracks and it reminded him why he had come here in the first place. “So are you sure you want to do this? I promise you that our fight will be one for the annuals… but are you willing to use this city and all it´s inhabitants as a backstop, mister civilized?” He asked with a grin. Originally he had intended to use this city indirectly as a hostage so he could continue to talk with Legume, but right now he was fervently hoping that that the super saiya-jin would say yes. So Dain's confidence, taking someone he had already presumed to be extremely powerful, to a distant planet for a one on one duel, was actually built over a some sort of foundation. Much to Legume's surprise, the bounty hunter Saiyan suddenly activated a transformation of his own, powering up into his Super Saiyan state and adding onto it that Legume's transformation got his blood boiling for a fight. Alright then... Legume could not say that he shared such Saiyan-like enthusiasm. Sure, he loved to fight, train and test my skills like any martial artist, and had a strong sense of honor much like he did righteousness... but it never came from his genome or anything like that. Forty thousand years of evolution and intermingling with other species did its own part, and Legume counted that he was only... thirty four percent Saiyan or something?
Genetically, at least.
Legume initially did not say a word, only pulling out the massive weapon in his hands from the ground and lifting it up, placing it on his shoulder. This was where Dain pointed out something else, something which the Super Saiyan did not expect to come from his mouth any time of the day - whether Legume wanted the fight to actually take place when they were in the middle of a town and with plenty of bystanders watching the staredown. It was a problem, indeed. Legume's azure eyes clanced towards the people surrounding them, his ears catching the sound of a woman screaming and children chattering. If he throws even a single punch, most of these people... are going to die.
He had trained to control the focus and strength of his punches even while transformed, but not while so many fragile beings stand so close to the fight, and the other side is just as powerful. And doesn't hesitate to throw a punch without remorse, either...
A plan, however, concocted itself in Legume's mind.
"You see, Dain..." the Super Saiyan began, raising his index and middle finger and placing it on his forehead. "You're not the only person who's got access to the other's tricks."
Suddenly, Legume vanished from his position, reappearing right behind the bounty hunter and, hopefully before he managed to actively respond, would grab onto Dain's shoulder and teleport again, this time with his soon-to-be opponent in tow. What Legume's energy sense latched onto, and thus teleported towards, was one of the inhabitants of the very same village, who had been spending his time foraging in a thin forest a few miles away - as soon as two golden-haired warriors surrounded by auras suddenly appeared in front of him, the villager shrieked in fear and ran in the opposite direction as fast as his eyes let him.
"There, how about now?"

This time it was Dain´s turn to be completely surprised. He had known that Legume was strong and probably extremely skilled - why else would he wield such an impressive weapon, if he could not wield it properly-, but he had not expected his own technique to be used against him. In his time there were not a few who could use the technique of the gods and to meet one in person was even rarer. He had simply not been prepared for Legume vanishing and suddenly he found himself in a forest a few miles away from the village. He began laughing loudly as he grasped the situation. His original plan had been to teleport into the city, use them as a hostage and talk to Legume. For some reason the Saiya-Jin interested him. Depending on how it went, he would simply have run, using instant transmission to go to another planet. He might even have called the authorities to pick the man up. This changed everything though. Not only did he lose his hostage, he also lost his means to run. From what he could tell Legume´s speed was as high as he was, so he could simply have followed him everywhere. There were only two options left. “Hold up for a moment.” Dain said as he relaxed for a moment, allowing himself to be open to a surprise attack from Legume. He figured though the Saiya-Jin would not be the type to attack his foe in the back. “Look this could go two ways. I keep teleporting to the vilage and you keep teleporting me back. It would be a game of tag that would never end.” He said as he pulled a small device from his pocket and pressed a few buttons, causing a holographic screen to pop up. “Or I can decide to fight you here, fair and square. We´d duke it out with all our might, let our prowess determine who is right.” Dain continued, not being able to hide a sense of joy from his voice. As he spoke he managed to find what he was looking for and the image of a solar system popped up. A super nova had stripped it devoid of life and it contained dozens of lifeless planets and hundreds of smaller moons. “However I fear that even from here, our clash would disrupt the life on this planet or possibly even obliterate it.” He said seriously as he turned towards Legume and threw the small device to him. “I am not very good in holding back you see and I don´t care whether you believe me or not, I have no intention to kill innocent people.” He said with a devious grin as he waited for the Saiya-Jin to look at the screen he has just tossed him. Despite his grin, Dain was absolutely serious. He did not care about mortal lives and he would destroy his foes without a second thought… but he did not care about killing the innocents. “So I give you a third option. We go there to fight. It is devoid of life and there is nothing left to care if we cause collateral damage.” He said as he crossed his arms, the lightning still arcing brightly around him. “Three options, make your call. I will honor your decision.” He said serious, waiting for Legume to decide. He just hoped that the Saiya-Jin picked the correct one. WC: 550 Total Word Count: 4,850 Legume

Faced with the realization that the person he has just challenged to a duel is able to teleport much like him, Dain got a little desperate, stopping Legume before they could get into a real battle and immediately warning him that even if they have chosen this place a few kilometers awat from the hostages, this will not ensure their safety. Indeed, even if Legume's Super Saiyan transformation may be mastered and the Saiyan himself determined to not cause any unwanted harm in the midst of battle, Dain did not follow such norms of morale and seemed completely willing to, say, glass or destroy the entire planet if the situation calls for it.
Instead, the Super Saiyan bounty hunter offered three options. One, they keep teleporting in and out of the village to no end for all eternity, or at least until one of them gets tired of the constant teleportation. Second, they duke it out here, with all their might, potentially dooming all of the unfortunate planet's inhabitants in the process. Third, and this was the interesting offer, Dain transfers them both to an uninhabited world orbiting around what used to be a star, but has now been completely depopulated after it went supernova. Nobody to get in the way of their duel besides rocks, rubble and each other.
Legume snickered slightly at the options, offering his opinion:
"You seem to have forgotten a fourth option on how this goes down. I take you down so quickly that you are unable to cause any collateral damage."
Acting arrogant and vain in front of others was not really in Legume's nature - but he figured he could let himself go for a bit. Even if he may have been a prodigy back in his time, he was really nothing too special - and here, he immediately jumped up to one of the strongest people in the Galaxy.
"What you're seeing here is only a fraction of my maximum strength." Legume continued and lifted up his sword from the ground back onto his shoulder. Sure, he didn't know exactly how strong Dain is supposed to be, either... but he could presume. "But if you're letting me to choose from one of those three, then of course, I'll take the last one."
Sure, Dain could be leading him to a trap... but, if worst comes to worst, he can teleport out of there. And a chance to fight this bastard on a playing field where no innocent people will be harmed is something he could not miss.
