CHARACTER BIO
NAME. Pleez
RACE. Majin
AGE. 46 (looks 20-ish)
GENDER. Female
HEIGHT/WEIGHT. 4'11 / Gummy
APPEARANCE.
MOTIVATIONS.
Pleez’s core motivation can be summed up in one word: ‘Destruction’.
Having learned the truth of her origin – at least as far as she is concerned – she has discovered that there is no higher purpose to her being; there is no secret salvation waiting for her after a lifetime of slavery and misery. She is a monster, born from the same creature that once threatened to destroy the entire universe. This revelation has cracked her, at least partially, and she doesn’t try to fight the new instincts that have been awoken in her.
Pleez never feels happier than when she is in the process of obliterating something from existence. She doesn’t have any noble goal or vision, she doesn’t care about any of that. She doesn’t want to rule or control, she just wants to erase everything from existence. If she were drawn into conversation on it somehow – not an easy task, as she doesn’t particularly care to engage in discussion about her motivations – she would say that she doesn’t need a reason to destroy. Fire burns, wind blows, birds sing, and she ends life. It is what Buu – the original, pure Buu – was created for. She is merely carrying on that legacy.
In truth, there is more to it than that, even though she doesn’t know it. Magic, being a fundamentally ethereal and immaterial thing, does not have a place in the physical universe. Whilst it can be shaped by practitioners of the art, and that is what happened to Buu, his original form was an expression of magic attempting to negate that which is inimical to itself. It is unlikely that either Pleez or Buu could verbalise such, but having been put back in touch with those original drives, Pleez is working to erase physical existence so that magic – pure and uncontained – can return to the primordial chaos before the beginning of the universe.
QUIRKS.
Pleez is a bit like a wild beast. Whilst she has been ‘collared’ by the Empire and put to work, ultimately, she is an impulsive, destructive force lashing out at those around her whenever the opportunity arises. Where she was once a dour and serious individual almost all the time, there are flashes of that, but only when she’s given a reason to focus and concentrate beyond the satisfaction of her immediate urges.
As an unbridled force of destruction in the universe, Pleez is distasteful towards almost all things that other people would consider ‘pleasant’. She abhors art, beauty, and food in all its forms. She doesn’t eat any more, sustaining herself purely through the flow of magic through her body. She also has an innate distrust of all positive demonstrations of emotion. Trust, friendship, joy and laughter are nails down a blackboard for her. These are the forces which, ultimately, protect the universe and stop it from imploding in on itself. She hates them all.
At the same time, Pleez has not lost all of what she used to be. As a former mercenary, she remembers the bonds of trust she had with those she worked with; she remembers enduring pain gladly on their behalf, and putting herself in harm’s way willingly. Those drives from her old life maintain themselves in her love for money (though she doesn’t really spend it on anything) and her grudging willingness to work with other people. This conflict between her old self and her new causes some intense self-loathing at times, as she finds herself trusting people… and hating the fact that she trusts them, even whilst she chastises others for the exact same behaviour.
Pleez now has a low tolerance for pain, and is extremely quick to anger when injured. Despite the fact that her gummy body is far, far tougher than practically any other species to cause significant damage to, she has no patience for being hurt and even ‘insignificant’ wounds rile her up. This makes sparring with her a rather jarring proposition, as she has a tendency to ‘lose herself’ in the moment and push things further than she should. (Note: this is not to say that the player is going to seek to turn spar threads into battle threads or anything ridiculous like that; only that a sparring thread with Pleez is unlikely to be a happy or restrained affair.)
BONDS.
Pleez is an Ultramarine – the fact that this gives her a position of prominence in the Empire and has some citizens actually think of her as a hero is one which amuses her to no end. It ties her tightly to Polaris and to the Empire as a whole; her first ‘duty’ is to obey the orders given to her by the Emperor and to execute His will to the best of her ability.
Truth be told, Pleez couldn’t care less about the Empire, its totalitarian nature, or the responsibilities she has been given. What she does care about is destruction, and the Empire is all too happy to make use of such a ready tool to execute former Patrolmen and solidify their hold over the galaxy. She is fully aware that, in time, it is likely that she too will stray beyond some ineffable boundary that is utterly incomprehensible to her – and when that happens, she will likely come into conflict with her former allies. She only hopes that when this happens, she is either strong enough to take them down, or smart enough to find another power to shelter her from the consequences of her actions.
BACKSTORY.
Pleez doesn't remember much about her origin. She came to on a distant world on the eastern rim of the galaxy, having been travelling in a spaceship which had slammed into the planetary surface and exploded quite violently. Her memories of who and what she is were extremely mixed up by this, and it was blind luck which saw her 'apprehended' by a Frieza Force patrol.
In truth, Pleez was born on Earth many, many years ago. She was a bright and cheerful young woman who volunteered to go into space in order to make contact with alien races and represent the best of Earth on behalf of a now-defunct group of idealistic scientists and explorers called the League of Hope.
She soon discovered that the galaxy was not a friendly place. The Frieza Force Warlord responsible for the division who found her, Lord Snow the Cunning, realised that a creature capable of surviving an impact of that calibre was almost certainly useful to his plans. Pleez spent ten years press ganged into service with the Frieza Force in exchange for paying back her 'rescue costs'.
That lasted until a chance encounter with a namekian explorer, who recognised her species, pointed her back towards Earth. Lord Snow did not earn his title by being an idiot, and agreed to let her leave in exchange for a promise that she would communicate with him if she found this 'Earth' and thought it was of interest. She left, and worked as a mercenary for three more years on the slow, winding journey back to Earth.
Upon arrival on Earth, Pleez had many further adventures. She found that the planet was completely alien to her; that she did not fit in with her fellow majin, and that human society was… disturbing, in a variety of ways. She continued to work as a mercenary and sometime-enforcer, but Earth soon became a place that was too ‘loud’ – attacked by the Frieza Force and by the Saiyans at various points, she chose to take her leave – sadly, long before she learned the truth of her origins.
At least, the truth of the origins of Pleez as she was. Pleez took her journey to the stars, and to Lute, an ally in the mercenary trade who had risen to great power in the Demon Realm. He agreed to put her in touch with a mysterious wizard who could look into the past and find her origins.
It kind of worked. What it actually did was to connect Pleez through time and space to the originator of all majins in the universe – not the kindly, reformed Majin Buu who had made them, but his truth; the destructive force known only as BUU.
Pleez was magically linked to that terrifying being for only a few seconds, but even that was long enough for her own form to be corrupted by the drives that pushed Buu through the universe in his original rampages of destruction. Still highly cognisant of who she was and what she had sought to do, Pleez found renewed drive and motivation in the act of destruction.
CALL TO ACTION.
It is fair to say that her transformation was concerning to Lute, who had known the more withdrawn, professional Majin that she had been before. He assisted her by putting her to work under Polaris; a fellow ally who had access to an entire Empire’s worth of enemies which needed to be destroyed, and a structure that might help impose some order back on Pleez’s fractured, lost mind.

(Couple of additional notes:
I'm making some assumptions on how Lute will act. I checked the basic concept with Legume a little while back so I assume he still has no problem at all with a half-crazy majin monster being part of the Ultramarines; though it is of course his organisation so if he does have a problem, just let me know. If Lute has any notes... I kind of assume he'll be the one processing this so again... just let me know!
I figured it made more sense to present the character as she is going to be played after the adventure thread I discussed with Lute, rather than resubmitting the old app and then rewriting all of it after we've done that thread. It is therefore possible that some of the details may change but the thrust should remain the same. I'm also very excited to start playing this character, so that thread (which I am also super excited to do) will probably be a flashback rather than the first thing.
I've also currently got a spar thread open with Eschalot, and intend to finish that off as the last thing I do with the character - for ease I'll hold off on the mechanical reworking until that thread is done).
