The King stood tall, ready to once again address the parliament. He’d only returned to public life for a short time but already he was being heavily lobbied by the entire military for a mass expansion of Earth’s defenses. They weren’t alone either, dozens of polls showed the people wanted the same thing, and the military industrial complex was always happy to mass produce arms.
To King Ches it seemed like common sense. Earth was no major power, everyone knew that. Their technology was advanced but they lacked the unification and imperialistic vision that the Galactic Empire and Saiyan Dominion exerted. They were small compared to most galactic powers, and the attack by the Freeza Force had proven that the planet was open to attack. All it took was one daring raid and the entire of Earth’s government could be wiped out in an instant. They needed defenses, and they needed them fast.
The military was convinced. The people were convinced. The King was convinced.
Parliament had a few doubts.
Earth’s Congress was gathered before him, eagerly awaiting the words of their King. Though he did hold some power he still needed their consent for the funding and administration of the mammoth task. An interplanetary defense system that spanned the entire solar system wasn’t something he could do with his limited executive powers. Hopefully his speech here would be enough to convince them that these defenses were needed, and that the military must take charge of their construction, not the politicians. The last thing he needed was for Earth’s only hope to become a power grab on the ladder to the top.
A team of scouts had already been sent to establish the headquarters of the main defenses. While much of the command would be on Earth, it was more practical to have a forward base that would command the outer defenses directly. These scouts were already in the process of setting up this base, on the moon Europa. Even if this system was not fully implemented, the base would be a vital asset to the military.
There had been some security concerns before this address had begun. Concerns that individuals within the government, or perhaps agents of an outside power, would attempt to use this event to assassinate the King, to bring down Earth once and for all at the summit intended to begin to place it back on the galactic stage. The most senior NCO in the King’s guard, Warrant Officer O’brien, had already done everything he could, including send for outside help, to ensure that any attempts on any official’s lives were stopped. Now was not the time for more death.
The King took a glance at the speech in front of him. This is it he thought to himself. If this didn’t work, then there was not much left to be done. Earth would be alone, and its defenses useless.
Just one kilometer away from the parliamentary building, a hooded figure moved quietly through the streets. This contract had some requirements that irritated him, but he was a professional and would get the job done as requested. No massive ki blasts. The King had to be killed in person, with one hundred percent certainty. Otherwise he may yet rally his people. There were those who would rather see his position filled by a more… practical politician. Someone who understood the cost of what the King was known to be about to propose. Someone that could unite the people in the idea of mediocrity rather than excellence, and observation rather than intervention.
This figure was the agent of their desires. And his job would be carried out, with maximum success.
This event will start on 10/26. The event is pro-Earth as you have been hired by the King’s Guard to ensure nothing harmful reaches the government. You must defend parliament from any attackers while the King attempts to persuade them of the need to massively expand Earth’s defenses.
This event is non deadly
