Verus’ Orbit [ About 5 o’ Venus o’ Clock ]
Space- the final frontier. An endless expanse filled with glimmers of light dotting the unlimited reach of the cosmos. Many a possibility could be found within this great beyond, this eternal wonder, this darkened canvas. One could only hope to wonder what event might cross the young man’s path as on his journey throughout its reach. What grandeur? What excitement? What impossible scena-
“That’ll be five fifty,” a lime-coloured Xeno with the head of a stag beetle declared.
“What?” Goosebumps formed the skin of Russ’ arms. “Five fifty?” Five hundred and fifty Zeni for a Space-Taxi ride. He could not believe what he heard. Either his ears were faulty or the Space-Taxi-Driver actually listed more than he had ever earned at his previous job. Delivering pizzas did not pay much, but it did give him some pocket money in the past.
Focusing his surprisingly non-compounded eyes at Russ, the Stag-Man reiterated himself. “Yeah, Five fifty.” Five hundred and fifty Zeni “Do I need to spell it out for ya’? C’mon, I don’t have all day.”
Technically, he did not have all night either. It depended on which planet was closest to the next passenger.
“But we’re not even there yet.” The boy attempted his best to bring himself out of this current situation. Or at the very least, getting himself to his destination would net him a call with a contact. “I said I needed to go to Sadla.”
“Mrm, no way pal. If I bring this ship anywhere near there, they’re gonna blow it up.” At with that, he shook his head. “Now fork over the money.”
Thus, the young Saiyan decided to use his final, secret, ultimate move.
He closed his eyes.
He inhaled deeply through his nostrils.
He clenched his fists as hard as he could.
And he said-
“I don’t have Five fifty.”
Immediately, Russ was ejected from the Taxi- flung into the atmosphere of Venus as he plummeted towards the planet from immense heights.

The sandy surface of Venus raged in the winds as Joshua strolled across the barren planet. It almost reminded him of Earth, minus the animals, water, civilisation, and literally any sign of life for a hundred miles. He'd expected running a planet to be a lot more fun than this. The amount of time he had to spend wandering through the deserts just to clear his head was ridiculous sometimes. He needed to get away from it all. Get back to fighting, to what he was good at.
A small light flashed on the HUD of his helmet. A mental command activated the communications link, allowing his built in radio to link up with the tower at Central Command.
"Commander? Do you copy?" Colonel Griffin's voice chattered across the line.
"Yeah I copy, this better be important."
"Well to be honest we aren't really sure. One of the outposts claims to have seen a small vessel fire something towards the planet a dozen miles out from directly above you, but we aren't picking anything up on radar. Might be nothing, or the storms might be messing with our satellites. Regardless, you might wanna check it out just in case."
"Yeah I'm on it," Josh said with a sigh, adjusting the sword strapped to his back as the link deactivated and left him alone again. "One day. All I want is one day without some random anomaly setting off alarms. But no, whenever some rock moves a bit too fast or a shuttle dumps its trash you have to investigate. No wonder we can't afford an actual military, they're too busy spending all their money staring at nothing."
After a couple seconds to calm himself Josh took off, his white aura engulfing his red and black suit as he soared over the ground in the coordinates sent by the Colonel. Not even a second later he realised that maybe they had a point about this particular anomaly.
He could sense it now. Something was moving quickly towards the surface of the planet. Something powerful. It was hard to say exactly how powerful but Josh was pretty sure it was a lot stronger than him.
"Ah whatever. Not like anyone else on this rock would help if they could."
He was supposedly in the area it had been falling towards. All he could do now was wait. Wait for whatever legendary warrior or master of discipline was about to land on the surface of his planet.

There he goes, falling from the sky of a planet once again. This happened one too many times for him to think it was a mere coincidence at that point. He had fallen from the sky on two other times that he could recall so far. Either a curse had been placed on him to forever make him fall from the atmosphere of planets at random, or Russ simply drew the galaxy’s worst gravity lottery. At the very least, the boy managed to get strong enough to withstand almost whatever natural threat bared its fangs.No more screaming as immense wind pressures brushed past his face. Nay, that was the old Russ- the weaker Russ. From the very first of his encounters, he grew more than he could ever have known. Hence, the boy-CRASHED RIGHT INTO THE SURFACE OF VENUS.Tidal waves of sand were sent outward in a radius from where he landed. As forceful as any other, the collision stirred up a sandstorm as air currents waged war against one another. The land trembled from his impact.Russ stood up slowly, spitting out sand as he violently shook his arms around to clear the clouds of foreign particles from sight. Just like that, the storm was sent elsewhere. He did not have that method of landing in mind at all, but decided to roll with it either way. The teenager looked from left to right, and then poured sand out of his boots.Now, all that was left to do was wait. For something. There was little he could do. If nobody turned up, he would at least try to make himself a nice sand-house.

The human followed the fast moving energy as it hit the surface of his planet. An enormous explosion of dust and sand blocked his vision briefly, but after it had cleared he saw what he was up against through a close up image on his helmet. Looked like a human if anything, but he couldn't fully see from back here. The figure was dressed kind of funny though, not that Josh was one to talk. Joshua floated slowly through the air, being cautious not to draw too much attention to himself. He felt somewhat outmatched, and he hadn't had a proper fight in almost a year, so he wasn't sure how this was going to go at all. But this wasn't something he could just let slide. As he touched down near the figure his mind started racing. He wasn't sure what was going to happen here but he was sure as hell excited for it. "So. Care to explain what you're doing on my planet?" He called out, eyes locked on the warrior in front of him. He had no idea what this person wanted. For all he knew this guy was here to blow up his planet. It was a shame Venus didn't have its own Hercule Satan to defend it. Still, they had the next best thing.

Sand. There was sand everywhere. Sand in his hair, sand in his gloves, and sand in his pants. Too much sand to probably be legal. Illegal sand. Russ did not like this sand. He shook himself rapidly like a dog attempting to rid its fur from water. For the most part, his jittery movements worked. However, it seemed as though he had a bigger problem approaching in the colours of red, black, and grey.
“Oh.” He lifted an index finger slowly to point over at Joshua. “You own this planet?” The boy asked abruptly in response to the man’s question.
Upon realising that it was rather stupid to answer his question with another question, Russ gave an absolutely brilliant line of dialogue that was sure to persuade the man he was not a threat. “Uhhhhhhh.” Rubbing the back of his head, he struggled to explain himself.
Perhaps not then.
“I was kinda dropped here after being kicked out of a taxi.” That was perhaps one of the worst things he could have said, but he did so anyway.
A moment of awkward silence took place as the fact settled in.
“Do you know any way I could just get back to like, Earth or some planet called ‘Sadla’?” He raised a question out of the blue to break said silence. “I was told that there’s these weird space-people on Sadla that need a thing.”

The figure was... less impressive than Josh had expected. He was still in awe at the level of power in front of him, but the man in front of him didn't come across as the disciplined master he'd expected. In fact Josh was fairly sure this guy was a kid. It was hrd to tell though, so many races looked similar and aged differently he couldn't assume who was what age at this point. As the awkward moment passed Josh cocked his head slightly. "Kicked out of a taxi huh? How did that happen?" He said, grinning under his helmet. He'd thought he was here to attack his planet but in reality he'd just fallen out of the sky. "Wait, let me guess, you weren't gonna pay." Now that his planet's existence was out of debate, Josh was less worried. But he was still on his guard as this guy could decide to attack at any moment, he'd been thrown out of a taxi for all Josh new he was unstable. "Well the easiest way would be to get your hands on your own ship but you probably won't be able to do that here. There's taxi services at the polar cities that'll get you most places, not sure how far they're willing to go though, you'd have to check." Even if there was no malicious intent here Josh really wanted to see what this guy was made of. It'd been a while since he'd been pulverised by a stronger warrior and he needed to get used to it again. Just in case something kicked off he began to gather his energy in preparation, and his white aura blazed around his armour as his energy gathered for a fight.

Embarrassment came easy to the young man. Not only did he have to explain that he had been kicked out of a space-taxi, but Russ was almost sure the man got a kick out of this scenario. If not for his focus being on holding an actual conversation with Joshua, the boy’s face may have turned as red as a tomato.
“Well-” Just as he got ready to tell his own side of the story, a prediction took place. “Yeah, no- you’re a bit off on that one,” he announced with all the composure available to him. “I’ve only got about. . .” His right hand departed downwards into one of his two trouser pockets before returning to sight with the mentioned items. “Fifty-two Zeni, a paper clip, and pocket lint.”
True to word, fifty-two Zeni, a paper clip, and bits of pocket lint rested calmly on the surface of his palm. Soon thereafter, Russ brought back the objects to store within a pocket.
Then, Joshua mentioned there being cities on this planet.
“Oh neat!” His lips curved upwards into a smile. “Thanks for the tip, but uh-”
The adolescent could not help but feel the ground rumbling beneath his feet.
“Why are you charging up your energy?” Asked Russ nonchalantly. All the while, he squinted both eyes at the man. A small droplet of sweat descended his right temple. Neither energy sensing, nor a scouter were available to him, so this opponent’s power may have been far weaker than him or way stronger for all he knew.

Looked like the other guy had caught on. Although to be fair it was hard to hide powering up when it made you glow and the ground shake. Ki had some serious disadvantages to it. "Oh, you know, just being cautious. Although maybe there's a reason you're here. Maybe fate kicked you out of that space taxi because they wanted to see the ultimate battle between one guy wearing too many clothes and one guy wearing too few. Seriously though dude put a shirt on." Things were beginning to escalate and Josh liked where it was going. If worst came to worst he'd just give up, pay for this guy to go to Earth or planet salad or whatever and let him go on his way. But in the mean time it couldn't hurt to see what he was made of. Still, an enemy of this much strength wasn't someone he could face lightly. He'd have to go all out from the start. "Look why don't we just skip the foreplay and dive right in. You landed on my planet, I have a sword, it's basically destiny that we fight at this point. And if you win I'll pay for you're trip to wherever you wanna go." With that Josh began to tap into his core, unleashing the power he couldn't fully control. He let out a shout, half in pain and half in shock, as his power hit its maximum and his white ki turned a crimson red, covering his entire body. "Let's see what you're made of." Before attacking Josh gathered his ki for an attack designed to throw his energy off guard. "SOLAR FLARE" he shouted, spreading his arms sideways as everything around him turned blindingly bright. The human charged, drawing his sword as he did so, and infusing it with the same energy he was now wielding throughout his body. He threw a single, powerful strike straight at Russ' chest, putting as much as he could into the first attack. He wouldn't win a war of attrition so he had to figure out this guy's style quickly. He followed it with a weaker jab towards the same area, hoping to catch him off guard as he did so.

Surprise of all surprises, ‘destiny’ so happened to bring a surprise for Russ once more. What could it be this time? Maybe a pleasant afternoon with a perfectly rational human being laid in wait on some other planet. After all, not everything had to be centred around engaging one another in barbaric combat. Regardless, the gift that fate showed up on that day may have been the most common of them all in the galaxy.
It was a psychopath. The surprise was always psychopaths.
Russ could never understand the obsession people had with fighting. He would have not been surprised if it was due to immense brain damage from concussion after concussion on a regular basis. Still, he held the hope that this situation could be sorted out via proper social skills.
“Could you maybe not-”
SOLAR FLARE!
And with that, a blinding flash of light met his retinas. “AH JEEZ- MY EYES!” Why did they always do that? For the life of his, Russ did not know why everyone and their mother knew how to do that move. What he did know was that it affected him. While both eyelids remained closed and vision failed him, he had to figure out something.
Thus, the boy raised his arms up in front of his chest to form a cross as knees came to a bend. Astonishingly enough, that much caused the first strike to bounce harmlessly off his flesh. The second did make its mark however. A swift jab into his chest caused his feet to drag backwards across the sandy plain. It failed to leave a mark, buy boy did it sting.
Hitting him with even a bladed weapon felt like attempting to slice a boulder. That much became all the more apparent as his right palm shot outwards in an attempt to blast Joshua with the sheer force of his strength. Gale force winds came charging out for the man ahead. Russ aimed to retaliate for this sudden attack, but whether he was trying became a matter on its own right.

As always his sword turned out to be about as useful as stabbing a wall of steel with a toothpick. But, like toothpicks, the sword did have some uses and he could see his second attack had at least a minor impact. Unfortunately he didn't have chance to relish in this small success as his opponent quickly responded in kind. The human dodged back away from his opponent, and was able to escape the blast of the winds by a tiny amount. His feet thudded into the sandy ground as he skidded to a halt and watched as dust fell from all directions as the winds died down. "Man, I could feel that. Not fought someone as strong as you in months." Joshua took a fighting stance and gathered his energy for another strike, this time pouring his energy into constructs that began to form around him. Red wings of pure energy materialised behind him as his power gathered once again. Along with the wings crimson red armour made of energy made itself comfortable on top of various parts of his standard armoured suit. He also focused on pouring more energy into his sword this time, hoping to catch his opponent off guard. The glowing sword turned purple as it vibrated at an incredible speed. This time when Josh charged he aimed for Russ' legs instead, intending for the vibrating blade to launch a series of attacks at once in a concentrated location. He was propelled forwards by the wings on his back, and swung the blade at lightning speed in a barrage of blows that would each vibrate many times over upon contact with the enemy. Following his assault Josh took a moment to gather his energy and prepare himself for what his enemy might throw at him next, making sure to keep his power at one hundred percent capacity.

Finally, the whiteness concealing his sight came to a clear. That much gave him a bit of relief in the current situation. A bit of relief before Joshua closed in with a heavy sweep targeted at both legs. Easy enough to avoid by leaping up into the air, but this was not the end of it. Another slice curved in to his shoulder- another to his chest.
Despite landing onto the ground by both feet, it seemed that this man gave Russ no time to gain proper footing. His hands were brought up to defend against the onslaught of slashes heading his way. For every swing Josh sent out, he responded in turn with a slap, clap, or parry on the flat sides of his blade using only his fingers and palms. Admittedly, the harsh vibration caused each deflect to sting lightly, yet he continued on with the rush in spite of that.
Whoever this opponent was, they definitely did not hold back in the slightest. This caused the Saiyan himself to wonder if he should reciprocate the sentiment. Then again, perhaps not- he was still unsure of how durable this person was. He would rather not be responsible for sending someone to a hospital to recover in a full-body cast.
Hence, he retaliated with a single chop on the warrior’s right shoulder when an opportune moment presented itself. A gap in his opponent's pace

Everything seemed like it was going well. He was making some progress with his assault and his opponent seemed caught off guard. That is, until said opponent launched a sudden strike at Josh sending him flying across the ground when he let his guard down. That speed was incredible, the fact that a second of weakness had led to such a powerful attack gave him some idea of just what he was dealing with. His energy armour had protected against some of the damage, but it was fading and he was losing any advantages he already had. "Oh, good. For a second there I thought you weren't gonna fight back. Was getting worried." He said as he got back on his feet, swaying slightly as he regained his balance. He could feel his power fading. He needed to get the upper hand, and quickly. He took a moment to study his opponent as his ki gathered in his body. He didn't look fazed in the slightest. Josh couldn't even tell if he'd hurt him yet. "Alright. Let's give this a shot then." He let out another shout as his aura flared and his power gathered. Everything he had was being unleashed now. Josh charged once again, still relying on his sword simply because it could amplify his power more than his body could. It glowed with an awesome red as he launched another two powerful strikes towards the figure in front, hoping to actually do some damage this time.

When in the midst of battle, Russ rarely talked at all. Doing so may leave one open to attacks while vital focus could be utilised instead to concentrate on the fight at hand. Such was the case of how his approach to this encounter went. However, it would be untruthful to say that the dialogue; whether mocking or simply jovial; managed to distract him to some extent.
The first strike came easy to avoid. A quick slant of his body allowed it to pass without so much as touching him. This did set him up for a jab to his left shoulder- one of which resonated loudly through the air with a metallic, blunt ‘KLANG’ as the area of flesh began to redden. Not quite what one might expect from a sword, but where it failed to cut, it managed to bludgeon through a large amount of force.
Russ grimaced mildly at the blow dealt. Thereafter, he regained his footing in full. Considering the person assaulted him out of nowhere and the boy wanted out of this situation, he tinkered around with the thought of using his full power. Still, that may have been a little too much. He did not want to hurt Joshua more so than settle this quickly.
“Alright, you know what?”
Russ’ right arm reeled back briefly, and proceeded to close in on the man. The boy attempted to punch him right in the stomach with a moderately-greater fraction of his strength.

Josh saw the fist right at the last second, right as he was about to come in with another barrage of strikes. He tried using his ki and his constructs to escape the attack but the fist found its mark, sending him flying again. This time when he landed his skidded to a halt, landing on his feet. His sword had been knocked out of his hands though, and while he could always try and find it there was too much sand right now. His hands would have to do. "That's more like it." He said with a grin as he spat blood. That last attack had done a lot of damage to him. He could also feel his body beginning to give out as his heightened power began to fade. The constructed wings and armour faded out of existence as his power lapsed to its normal state. "This doesn't end here." He growled as his body gathered itself for yet another assault. This guy was strong, and every time he hit Josh it sent him flying. He never got the chance to press any advantages he got. Still, was always worth another shot. As his power began to fade he gave it another boost, lower than the last one but enough to keep up with his opponent without going down. He tried to gather his energy again but the last strike had done a lot of damage and he'd have to recover before charging up for another attack. As he moved in he sent a flurry of blows towards his opponent's center of mass, and followed it with a spin kick aimed directly at the left side of his head.

“Yeesh.” The boy sighed to himself as he rubbed his left shoulder. It probably hurt a lot less than what he dished out to the swordsman, but it did still hurt. Sand particles upheaved from the colossal shockwave had yet to settle to the ground entirely. Grand seismic activity caused by this collision alone may have continued on for a few seconds longer than expected.
The last time he had to actually punch someone like that was two years ago. In any case, Russ decided not to begin reminiscing in the middle of this match. Despite losing his weapon, it was clear to him that this man stood as a threat to be reckoned with.
All the better that he should finish this quickl-
Josh spat out blood.
“YOOOOOOO!” Russ’ serious expression immediately faded. It was then replaced by a worried gaze directed at the man ahead of himself even as said opponent rushed ever closer. Though arms and legs began to shake lightly, he would match the warrior blow for blow. Every swing, every kick, every strike in the combination of the attacks was met with one of his own to block.
Both combatants engaged in a clash that sandblasted the very sand itself as strong blasts of air screeched outward from each collision. Punctuating this series of hits, a spinning roundhouse kick swung harshly out for him. It was one that he could have dodged, but instead blocked using his left forearm.
Then, he extended his right arm to hold a palm directly in front of Joshua’s face. It was an opportunity to make his own assault in the matter- a golden one at that. And yet, he did not take it. Instead, the teenager talked.
“Stop. Pause. Timeout.” He stared intensely at the man ahead of himself. “I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but that’s a sign of internal bleeding.” Pointing at the sides of Joshua’s lips, he continued on. “Can we just chill for a moment?”

"Internal bleeding? Nah, if there was an issue my suit would give me a warning." He said, completely ignoring the warning on his display that explicitly said that. "Don't worry, I'm fine." "But sure, lets take a minute. Sorry about that, kinda went off prematurely didn't I. That does happen sometimes." Josh shrugged uncomfortably in his armour as he disconnected his helmet from his suit, allowing it to drop to the floor. He took a breath of fresh air as he felt the planet's breeze. He'd actually begun to enjoy himself, despite the fact he wasn't exactly winning. He also wasn't exactly losing though either. Not yet anyway. "So, tell me, where were you off in that taxi anyway? A nice holiday location maybe? Because I'll be honest if so you've been left in the exact opposite of that." Just looking around at the desert kind of proved his point. The only nice parts were the floating polar cities and he wasn't a massive fan of those. "Name's Josh by the way. Kind of a big deal here, mostly because basically no one lives here but still, I'll take what I can get." He wandered over to his sword and casually picked it up, placing it in its scabbard while holding his helmet in his left hand. "Sorry, not really sure what I should do now. I mean, I could always attack again, but now i just feel rude." He said, itching the back of his head with his free hand.

Many things were expected from actions: a sucker punch while he continued to talk, the man may have lost his temper, or something else along those lines could have happened. Stopping the assault short to take a break because Russ asked him to? For all the agility the adolescent possessed, he certainly did not see that coming at all.
Hence, he lowered his guard. “Oh.” A deep sigh of relief was released. “That’s good.” He failed to believe for a second that Joshua lacked internal bleeding, but decided to roll with it for the sake of ceasing this fight.
Another thing that the Saiyan did not expect was the man possessed the mannerisms to apologise for attacking him because he wanted to attack him.
Waving his right hand casually, he cleared his throat. “Don’t worry about it,” assured Russ as he rowed both shoulders around to stretch. “You reeeeeeally aren’t the first person to do that.” The number of times that someone assaulted him just to test his strength, their strength, or for no reason at all was already lost to him. “That’s a big ‘really’.”
The young man stood up on the tips of his toes once all upper body stretches were complete. Proper work on all joints were required as far as he knew- better to not risk overexerting any muscles. It also proved to be a good use of his time while the timeout took place.
“I’ve been told that Sadla is kind of full of rocks.” That much did not make sense to him even when he first heard it. Either the planet’s name was ‘Sadla’ or ‘Radia’, but the fact about geography remained all the same. “Warrior people like their rocks, I guess.” For the life of his, he could not remember the name of the main, native species. “I’m either supposed to go to there or Radia.” A small shrug was made.
As his own introduction, Russ stated the obvious. “I’m Russ.” ‘Nice to meet you’ might have been a stretch seeing as their meeting was a violent one, so he did not mention it. Though, the man’s next statement gave him an idea. “If we’re done here, why don’t we go to one of the cities you mentioned?”
“That way I can get on another ride, and you can get healed up real quick. I also know a way we can settle the match then and there.”

Huh. That was a sudden change of pace. Looked like Russ didn't really mind that he'd randomly stabbed him a few times. To be fair Josh had been in many similar situations. Most of his friendships had started with him getting attacked randomly. Very, very healthy friendships. He sighed as his power seeped out of his body, letting his muscles relax. He was happy to end this here. He hadn't taken much damage but he could tell if this fight continued he'd be the one to go down first. That is, if he didn't luck out or find some obvious weakness. So ending this now was fine by him. "Russ huh. At least its not some weird complicated name like some others. And I get it, random attacks are the galactic standard greeting at this point. I think the amount of times I've been attacked has rubbed off on me, so yeah, sorry about that." He wiped the last of the blood away from his lips as he re-fitted his helmet and let the last of his energy dissipate. "If it's a ride to the city you're after then that's fine by me. Plenty of military cruisers just lying around nowadays so we can just borrow one of those. And if you're looking to settle this fight you're gonna have to give me a chance to get stronger. I don't know if you can sense energy but you're a lot stronger than I am, and if we're gonna fight for real I wanna make sure I don't get pummeled into the ground. “It’s fine, it’s fine- I forgive you.” After all, the man had already apologised three times. It was not that the boy was totally unconcerned about someone trying to cut him up using an energy-infused sword. Quite the opposite- before gaining this level of raw physical strength, he even felt queasy around butcher-knives. Rather, Russ lacked any sort of reason to injure; or be injured; by the soldier in front of him.
And seeing as this newfound acquaintance stopped emanating a translucent, white aura, he simply failed to believe why punching him would be a good idea. Strong foes were commonplace all around the galaxy. Meanwhile, Great warriors who listened and adhered to logic were seen far too rarely.
“Oh I wasn’t thinking about more combat to settle this match.” His eyes focused harshly upon the blade-master as both of his fists clenched by his sides. The boy’s grip clamped down so hard that an audible stretch faintly sounded out from each glove. After staring intensely at his acquaintance for a minute straight, he bent both his knees and held his right fist out in-between them.
“Rock-paper-scissors,” announced Russ with no regard for the dramatic build-up put in place before that. “Couldn’t really think of a lot of other things besides Road Warrior : MEGA edition 56, but that’s pretty much the same as fighting again.” Except he would probably lose at that video game. The boy had not touched it in years.
Joshua’s exposition did bring some context to this situation. The Saiyan still did not know what planet he was on, yet it hardly mattered if the people were kind. “I kinda doubt that some sixteen-year-old falling from the sky is enough of a reason to use a military cruiser,” he admitted wholeheartedly. “It’s alright- I’ll just run in a random direction until I find something.”
“But before I go, do you want to finish this?” Holding his hands at each end of his hips, he stood as if the setting suddenly shifted into a standoff at high-noon. “On three.”

"Road warrior... what??" Josh was confused. Did this guy really not care? If he didn't that was great and all, but it was rare to find someone with this little pride nowadays. Practically everyone took any minor offense as an excuse to blow up a couple islands or kill someone. But hey, peaceful settlement was fine by him. "Rock, paper, scissors huh?
