The bar was crowded, with groups of people huddled around tables playing cards and gambling in all sorts of ways. The room had a smokey tint to it, a section of the bar filled with smokers. Raijin could be found at the far end of this section, leaning against a wall. In his right hand he held a drink, in his left he held a still smoking 'cigarette'. The halfling took a few long drags from it, exhaling slowly as he scanned the room. He was in a foul mood. The past few days had been frustrating. Rai was trying to get over it with a strong drink and some potent smoke.
He closed his eyes and drifted into a deep thought as he slowly slipped at his drink. The Shinjin hybrid did this until his drink was gone, setting it down on a nearby table. One more, then he'd leave. Usually if he hung around here too long it'd end up with him getting into trouble. Not that he didn't want trouble- just sometimes it wasn't smart to look for it. Once you seek something out it can suck to find it. That's when you bite off more than you can chew.
Kind of like what the large Saiyan next to him was doing. Ravenously devouring food at a disgusting pace. The crunching of bones followed the sound of the Saiya-jin slurping down some sort of leg of poultry. Flecks of psuedo-chicken flesh flew from the savage Saiyan's mouth, coating his robe. Rai clenched his fist, trying to quell his temper.
But it wasn't meant to be. A chunk of bone flew from the man's dripping maw, landing directly on Raijin's lap. Rai crackled with molten hot plasma as his expression darkened. Cloud gathered above the pair, strangely filling the bar with a dark atmosphere. The humidity rose in the immediate area as the Shinjin's magical energy began to thrum out of control. With a boom of thunder, rain began to fall, solely on the individual Saiyan. A simple spell.
Raijin turned to the man, his violet eyes glaring daggers at him. He watched with glee as the man's meal was ruined by the isolated storm. The large Saiyan grumbled and stood to his full height, his impressive gut jiggling as he rose from his seat. His loud, booming voice filled the room.
"...that was you, elf-boy?" he stated. Raijin nodded, a refreshed smile crossing his previously grim visage. Perhaps trouble was what he needed! His hand began to crackle with more energy as he began working a new spell. With pure psychic energy, he lifted the rotund Saiyan from his position, the Saiyan kicking and struggling as Rai laughed.
Rai debated just zapping him and ending it, leaving his charred remains on the barstool. But where was the fun in that? The knife-eared youth clenched his hand together, breaking a few ribs on the weak Saiyan. A moment later, he tossed him into a large crowd of folks around a table, scattering their winnings everywhere. It was quite a bit of money.
From there? Chaos ensued. People began punching one another, firing off weapons, stabbing, and all around hurting each other over the large sum of cash that had been scattered by fatty's demise. Raijin was laughing hysterically, tears gathering in his eyes as he effortlessly dodged the strikes of a few weaklings. Who knows, maybe whoever was left standing in this bar brawl would be worth a real fight!

It had been quite an enjoyable evening for Ishmael. That is, it was the variety of enjoyment that one scarcely remembered and painfully felt the next morning.
The assassin was hunched at the bar table, hood down and nursing a full glass of fiery whiskey. The raucous shouting of a few dozen drunken men and the foul scent of cigarettes competed for room in the low wooden space of the bar.
He hurled his head back, downing the full glass with an impressive fortitude that came from spending a few centuries in a drunken stupor, and motioned to the astonished barkeep for another refill. On either side of him, people were likewise bent over the dirty table, gnawing on the pub’s signature chicken legs and guzzling beer.
The talking, laughing, and shouting in general were cut off when thunder boomed in the dingy confines of the room. Ishmael half turned in time to see one of the smokers hurl a rather tubby person with a resounding crash into a low betting table. Coins, cards, chips, and drink alike spilled across the floor.
Without further ado, absolute pandemonium erupted in the pub. Deciding that a fight sounded like just the pastime for the moment, Ishmael leaned over to the horrified barkeep, snatched the half-full liquor bottle from his hand, upended it, and smashed it into dust on the back of the nearest person’s skull.
The man collapsed limply forward onto the bar table, his body dragging back off of it, and Ishmael stood suddenly, hurling the bar stool to the ground. He punched someone in the nose, ducked a flying tankard, and kicked one of the lowlifes scuttling for discarded change on the ground unconcious, advancing across the crowded space towards the source of the magic. Now that person seemed like a worthy opponent.
Such high-and-mighty thoughts were brought to earth both metaphorically and literally when Ishmael stepped on a downed drinker’s arm and fell forward, trying to catch the edge of a table to stop his fall. He missed the particular spot he was aiming for, but managed to grab hold of the table nonetheless. It promptly did absolutely nothing to arrest his motion, and flipped onto his chest, spilling a puddle of tepid alcohol onto his chest.
”Gah!” He got one unsteady hand on the ground, moving to rise, and swept the legs out from under someone who was looking funny at him before finally making his way to the one who had started it all.
”You,” he slurred, “You look like a strong one.” He picked up a bar stool and smashed it on the wall, leaving himself holding one of the thick legs as a makeshift wooden club.

Raijin had made his way through the crowd of fighters, spending most of his time dodging and zapping. It wasn't all too fun. By the time all the patrons of the bar had either fled or been injured beyond the point of fighting, Rai saw there was one drunken man. The white-robed man stumbled towards him, the hybrid shooting him an inquisitive glance. How hadn't he noticed him before...? His power felt impressive. A good amount beyond Rai's own strength. A crooked grin crossed his ethereal visage, his eyes narrowing in excitement. The man smashed a bar stool into a makeshift club and Raijin had a realization. This was the type of situation where he was outclassed against a drunken stranger. This could get real bad if he didn't go for it all right away. There was absolutely no time to waste. The clouds that had gathered above the pair thickened. The air felt hot and sticky, like it does before a real bad storm. Rain began to drizzle down, seemingly harmless. This was Raijin's favorite spell, having enchanted the rain with his own cocktail of spells. It was a step up from his older version of the spell, weaving two different types together. The Shinjin halfling had been reading from his new book quite a bit recently, what he had read had definitely provided him with some insight. If the rain touched Ishmael, he would feel his limbs stiffen and his muscles harden. His breathing would become just a hair shorter, as a basic immobilization and crippling spell set in to work on him. As the storm above Raijin brewed, a pair of twin bolts of plasma arced from the clouds, zooming towards the drunken man. If that wasn't enough, Rai phased from view, appearing behind Ishmael. A fearsome amount of electricity burned and crackled around him as he prepared his favorite technique. Swinging his hand in a slashing motion, an arc of lightning shot from his hand, slashing towards the other warrior. The power difference was so extreme, Raijin couldn't hold back. BATTLE TRACKER

Without a word, the man summoned a miniature storm cloud within the confines of the bar, unleashing a small downpour onto Ishmael. He didn’t think much of it at first, but then noticed that his body seemed to be seizing up on contact with the water. His entire arm seemed to cramp simultaneously as he cocked back the club, and the mysterious person immediately went on the offensive.
It was difficult to move and even more difficult to dodge, so Ishmael couldn’t do much aside from sit there and weather the bolts of lightning that crackled over him. The alcohol still soaking his chest burst into flame, lighting up the tavern more brightly than any of the lanterns threatening to shake loose from the ceiling.
The man disappeared then, reappearing behind Ishmael and hurling a huge slash of electric energy at him. Ishmael summoned his magic with no small amount of effort and blasted a counter, an opposite bolt of lightning that cut into the center of the slash. Raijin’s attack split into two halves which spiralled wildly away from each other, the edge of each clipping Ishmael’s arms and the rest turning overturned furniture to ash.
”Nice trick,” he grumbled, turning around on pained legs. Outside, thunder boomed, and rain began to fall, drenching all the fleeing drinkers. A smug grin crossed his lips.
”That’s what I can do, though.” In his drunken state, the whale hunter didn’t consider that perhaps, just maybe, the cloud wasn’t the extent of his opponent’s power, or even that his own rain didn’t paralyze people.
”Know what else I can do?” Ishmael moved suddenly, and with the unexpected ferocity of a drunkard, lashed out in a shattering blow with the stool leg, his arm still held rigidly in the same position. Whether it connected or not, he’d summon lightning to his palm, burning his club into cinders, and crush it in his fist for dramatic effect before swinging said lightning fist at Raijin’s face.

Raijin grinned as the man was naive enough to allow the rain touch him. His attacks were mostly mitigated, but the damage had been done. This drunken fool wasn't even ready for what was about to unfold. Raijin knew one thing, however. Retaliation would be swift, and brutal. The drunkard closed the gap between the two, asking Rai a question. "Know what I can do?" The warrior didn't waste a moment. He incinerated the makeshift club and supercharged his fist with electricity. Raijin grinned, focusing his energy. Zanzokening from view, Raijin phased just far enough back to avoid the arc of energy from Ishmael's fist. That definitely wasn't the hardest punch, but Rai felt himself shaking. The fighter had unleashed his full power, and the entire bar was shaking. Firing a hole in the roof, Rai quickly took to the sky, laughing madly. This had gotten a lot more treacherous very quickly. The halfing had been lucky up until now. He had to keep his momentum, or risk being bludgeoned to death by a drunken stranger. The clouds darkened again above them, as the storm began to pick up. Rai began chanting lowly as he cast a spell from his enchanted ring, exacerbating any injuries the other fighter had sustained. Cuts would bleed more, burns would spread, bruises darken... Such was the nature of the spell. From there, however, Raijin was preparing something with a little more bang. Focusing on his opponents' ki, electricity began gathering around him at a frightening pace. He sizzled and hummed with plasma, as a small bolt shot from him directly into the clouds. The rain stopped for a moment. Then thunder, louder than an explosion roared out from the sky, a more torrential downpour beginning. Then came the lightning. Bolt after bolt zoomed towards Ishmael, absolutely destroying the roof of the bar. If any patrons remained, their very life would be at risk- fortunately, they seemed to have evacuated as the fight began to kick off. All the while, Rai continued to laugh maniacally. The stranger flashed backwards, evading the inebriated assassin’s wild swing, and blasted a hole into the roof. Without hesitation, he had flown up through the opening, cackling like a maniac.
Ishmael was about to give chase, but suddenly the world seemed to tip. His breath came faster in winded, ragged bursts. The singe marks on either arm blasted debilitating pain to his head with a vengeance, and the flame on his chest swelled, searing him through his hauberk. He stumbled as his vision blurred momentarily, putting an arm on one of the few still-standing tables for support.
Even with their enchantments, his clothes wouldn’t hold for much longer. As he debated how to put out the fire raging on his chest, his opponent solved the problem for him. The rain stopped for a moment, and in that moment, he felt the storm shift from his grasp to his opponent’s.
Ishmael’s eyes narrowed beneath his cloak.
A volley of lightning bolts exploded through the roof, the entire top of the bar erupting into a shower of smoking splinters under the assault. Ishmael struggled in a standard evasive pattern - lightning bolts showered down on either side of him, leaving charred circles of glass on the ground and throwing up dirt and cinders.
Finally, one bolt hit true- zigzagging downwards from the heavens, Ishmael watched it fly on a direct collision course with him.
At the last moment, a shining saber flashed from its sheath, deflecting the lightning into the ruins of the tavern. A residual shock traveled up his arm, but that was all.
As the debris was continually smitten with lightning, Ishmael darted skyward, the winds summoned to keep him aloft. The whale hunter gritted his teeth, asserting his own dominance over the storm, then drew back his hood and threw his face back, allowing the pelting rain to to bounce off his face. As the droplets rolled down his jaw, they began to turn dark brown - liquor being drawn from his system through his skin.
With a final hiss, the last of the alcohol was expunged in a cloud of mist. Ishmael opened his eyes and glared into his enemy’s eyes.
“Yeh’re in trouble now.”
With that statement, he went on the offensive, blasting forward with a sonic boom. Ishmael closed the distance, his sabers, blades burning with virulent electricity, unleashing a wild hail of slashes on his enemy. Each connected hit would hopefully cauterize the stranger’s wounds, and would draw some energy from him into the katchin.

Rai couldn't see much past the smoke rising from his onslaught. He was waiting for it to clear, just as the unexpected happened. The hooded warrior appeared, sobered and angry seeming. The man had one phrase for Raijin, a warning and a promise. "Yeh're in trouble now." With that, an incredible flurry of slashes enveloped Raijin's body, cutting into his flesh and causing spurts of blood to spray. Some of his wounds were bloodless, the heat from the plasma cauterizing the wound, leaving him with an array of injuries and burns. Rai barely evaded the last of the attack, huffing and puffing as he struggled to reclaim his breath. That had hurt quite a bit, and without some attention he might drop as soon as the next round. That would have to be corrected. Recently, he had worked out the kinks in his healing issue. His spells seemed to be ineffective, and a waste of energy. This was no exception, but it was more worthwhile. Grabbing onto one of the several flasks he carried on him, he began infusing it with magical energy as he chanted a few words in some strange tongue. In that moment, the last of the energy from his ring spurred to liflife,n further exacerbating his opponents' injuries. Then, the remaining magic was empty, transferred to his flask. The halfling gulped it down greedily, his body beginning to crackle with energy. A few of his deep cuts became more shallow, some of his burns becoming less severe. The halflings shallow breath returned to him, as he had managed to buy himself another minute in this fight, no matter how short it could be from here on out. Rai summoned twin bolts of lightning, tossing them at his foe as he began thinking of a plan. Hopefully he'd live long enough to enact it. BATTLE TRACKER

Ishmael happily felt his blades bite into flesh, blood wafting into mist on contact with the electrified blade. However, his attack didn’t last quite long enough to finish the fight - Raijin dodged a blow, throwing him slightly off balance, and chanted another spell.
Instantly, the mother of all hangovers seemed to hit him twelve hours early. A painful, pounding pressure swelled and built to a climax in his skull within moments. The stinging wind suddenly felt distant and far away. His eardrums seemed to be on the verge of bursting from some nonexistent force. His blood vessels dilated and tried to keep going, giving the illusion of a constriction around them.
Barely hanging on to his swords, Ishmael spiraled earthward and slammed into the dirt. Above him, more chanting rang to his ears as if from the bottom of a river. He looked up and hazily saw Raijin’s wounds beginning to close.
With a vague idea that he needed to stop the healing, the assassin drew a revolver from the back of his hauberk and did his level drunken best to line up his shot before firing. Two more bolts of lightning sailed down from on high, and Ishmael rolled away from the impact site with surprising agility, strugglign to regain his feet.

In the midst of his healing process, Raijin was struck by a stray bullet from Ishmael's strange pistol. It hadn't hurt that much, only grazing him, but his earlier injuries felt incredibly exacerbated. The hybrid couldn't believe how artfully his opponent had dodged his attacks, not to mention how devastating that last assault had been. Raijin was in real danger about now. His aura burst up around him, flaring aggressively. Lightning began to crackle and hiss and Rai phased from view, rapidly appearing next to his foe. The rain from earlier had begun to fall once more, threatening to add further detriments to his opponent. Raijin attempted a swift series of electrified punches before phasing backwards once again. The entire time he had been up close he had been prepping those one- one more Shocking Slash. The plasma from the attack arced outward as Rai flicked his wrist in his opponents' direction, laughing madly. As the attack rocketed towards his foe, Rai finally spoke to him. "Have to say, you're quite the interesting fellow! You fight like a savage, and drink like one too! If we both survive this, I owe you a drink!" While his voice traveled, so did the attack. The very stone beneath their feet was ripped to pieces and disintegrated, plasma licking at it viciously. Raijin was hoping this would put things more in his favor. BATTLE TRACKER

Raijin’s aura flared up impressively. Thunder burst in the clouds right on cue, and Ishmael’s opponent vanished, reappearing beside him an instant later with a barrage of powerful lightning-infused blows. Summoning the wind, a strong current of air flowed around Raijin from behind to hit the assassin full blast, pushing him back and holding him out of harm’s way just in time.
The Shinjin’s accursed rain began to fall again, but Ishmael wasn’t to be fooled twice. With no small degree of effort in his state, the whale hunter raised his gust to form a bulwark of condensed air above his head- nothing bulletproof, but certainly waterproof. Droplets trickled down the sides of the barrier, skating as though on nothing.
That’s when Raijin made his move. With a sweeping motion, he sent a final, huge arc of energy flashing towards Ishmael. The soaked barrier barely stopped ot for an instant, spreading throughout the whole bubble before arcing to the assassin’s bodies from seven different directions. Ishmael gritted his teeth and struggled back, trying to maintain his shield.
”One’ll be appreciated, once this damn hangover’s over,” he replied good-naturedly, then proceeded to good-naturedly pukk out a backup pistol and fire a round at Raijin’s torso.

Rai felt a slug from a pistol pierce his gut, falling to his knees and coughing up blood. He was impressed. This guy fought like a savage, utilizing every weapon at his disposal. Rai grinned as he coughed up some of his crimson essence, struggling as he gripped his wound. This fight had been a good one, despite how quickly it had gone. They both had surprised one another. Raijin surprised himself.
However, if he didn't get this injury patched up he would bleed to death in no time. Raijin fell back, trying to focus his energy. It was tough as his blood began to form a small pool around him. With a sickening hiss he began to cauterize the wound with what little energy he could muster, the smell of burning flesh emanating outwards as the hybrid tried his best not to scream in agony. He clenched his teeth so hard that it hurt.
Finally, it was done. Rai shakily reached into his robes and pulled out a pack of rolled 'cigarettes'. They smelled pungent, and any earthling would recognize the smell as something besides tobacco... Suddenly, Rai fumbled with the pack, it landing outside of the pool of blood. "S-shit..." he cursed, looking up to Ishmael. "Could you help me o-out..?"
Rai looked desperately at the pack of joints, holding his side in pain. If he survived this he'd have a nice scar.
"Good fight... the name's Raijin... You?"

It was over. One destroyed bar, two glorious minutes, three hundred thousand zeni in damages, and countless lightning bolts later, the fight was over. The bullet struck home, and Raijin cauterized it himself in an admirable and wince-inducing performance. Ishmael landed beside him, sheathing his weapons, and walked forward as well. "The name's Ishmael," he grunted, bending over and tossing the Kai his cigarettes. "It was a damn good fight, it was." Getting better, now that the magic on him was also fading. Still, though, his wounds smarted. Burn marks stung sharply in the breeze. He glanced down at his clothes, contemplating the need to wash them out, but decided that the first priority was Raijin's wound. The assassin twirled a hand, pulling a small sphere of water from the air, and directed it to float into the hole. The water's surface shimmered, then began to melt into the sides of the injury, forming new flesh and blood that closed in around it. "Sorry my healing magic's not at its prime, or I'd be able to do more. Ought to at least get you back in the thick of it a few weeks early, though." He grinned. "I guess I'll meet you there."
