315 words "Wretched hive of sin and opulence." The Wheel of Fortune, Space Vegas A little world of its own. Spinning like a wheel in the orbit of a true world. Fully self sufficient, at least after its builders finished adding the artificial water cycle and planting the initial batch of flora. Because in this day and age, why fret over the colonization of new planets, when you could just build a small one to spec using materials mined from asteroids, and water extracted from comet ice? A world of opulence, built by the rich, for the enjoyment of the rich. A spinning resort among the stars. Lush forests, crystal clear lakes, arable farmland, and of course, civilization. Within the spokes and centre itself, entertainment. Space Vegas itself, according to the gratuitous ads that could be seen on the mostly-censored Hypernet, was the Entertainment Capital of the Galaxy. Another popular moniker, centering on its liberal approach to all variety of vice, was 'Planet Sin'. Needless to say, the Albarican clergy would never abide such a realm. Fortunately, they were not privy to this place, lest they demand a ship perform Annihilatus. So what was the Suzerain of Albarica doing in such a wretched hive of sin and opulence? At least her attire at the time was appropriate for the glib of this place. "The Rangers reports indicate this world promotes a spectacle of combat," Lord Grayvian's voice rang in her mind as she stepped through the glitzy opium den, or 'Recreation Centre', as the locals called it. "Perhaps behind all this showmanship lies some true strength."Focusing her ki to erect a filtration barrier around herself to avoid having to inhale these foul narcotics, Mynia found herself a table, and reclined. Limbs buzzed and tingled with numbness induced through the consumption of opioid based narcotics, a youthful and ethereal looking young man exhaling softly. He was in a meditative stance, allowing his senses to extend outwards, practicing his latent energy control. He had been on this asteroid-based pleasure center for days now, running up a tab he intended to completely ignore. In fact, being cooped up for so long drinking and smoking left the hybrid wanting something more.
So, when he picked up an unfamiliar and potent energy signature in the distance, the halfling rose from his opiate induced relaxation with an excited grin. Perhaps if someone was that powerful they'd offer some good training, or even some entertainment. Rai feared the degradation of his strength from too much relaxation. Pushing through an inebriated crowd, he sought out the source of the energy, burning away and metabolizing the drug with a simple magical spell. He kept enough in his system to at least upkeep a slight euphoria, his smile matching the feeling.
He came to a table, where a beautiful albeit serious looking woman sat. Her strength emanated freely from her, and she reclined with a thin barrier of ki around her, presumably filtering out the good stuff in the air. She was a strange one. Definitely worth sticking around. He snatched up a pipe from a nearby smoker who had passed out, kicking the bowl before packing a little bit of his own herb in the piece. This wasn't opium anymore. This was good old hemp, straight from Earth. Raijin entered the woman's barrier, pulling up a chair and taking a large toke from the pipe.
"If you weren't so dreadfully sober I'd offer you some. What on Earth could you be doing here, miss?" the halfling asked, exhaling slowly as he spoke. The plume billowed towards the fierce looking woman, Raijin's characteristic smile stretching from ear to ear. His long hair hung over his almost glowing violet eyes, and his presence itself was unnatural, almost ethereal. There was something twisted in his grin, though.
It would be obvious that the knife-eared youth was up to no good. Was he even old enough to be in the establishment? He hadn't bothered to figure that out.

339 words "Wretched hive of sin and opulence." Finally, out of all the rubbish in this establishment, a significant power level approached. There were laws that governed this universe and the rest. One of them spoke of how one action was always met with an equal, opposite reaction. This was how fish could swim, how birds could fly, and how people could walk. It seemed, however, that it also applied to people's power levels. For when she sat down and waited, another one of nearly equal measure came, albeit one who was slightly possessed of the narcotics. Narcotics that he had exhaled in her direction as he spoke. He appeared young, though one should never judge by appearances. After all, age was not a factor of biological status, but a number. Different races aged differently. For all she knew, he was older than her. In fact, from the way that a degree of his ki actually felt like it was missing something, that told her that this person had some sort of divine pedigree. Godly ki, that essence that flowed through those who governed the universes - or at least those in line to do so. Detectable only to others who understood how it felt. To others, it would simply be a blank. Even at her current stage, Mynia had only felt some minuscule tinges of this power. However, she lacked the experience to truly sense godly ki and could only identify it by the partial emptiness it created in this man's ki profile. A profile that was all too familiar, as it perfectly fit the gods of creation, who possessed both parts divine and mortal ki. Brushing the plume of narcotic smoke aside with a wave of her fingers, the Suzerain answered. "I was informed that the world we are orbiting hosts spectacular televised battles. As such, I am simply making a stop before going down to spectate."She turned the question back to him. "And if I may inquire. What of you, my good Sir? One of his standing? Oh, this one had a warped sense of reality. The only good standing he had right now was the fact that he had literally just stood up. In fact, if you saw Raijin's credit score you would probably cry. Not that he paid it any heed. However, Rai kind of wanted to play along. The whole 'Shinjin' act was something he probably should practice, in case he ever needed to string along any future suckers. The first thing he needed to work on was the fact that he openly clenched his fist anytime anyone referenced his heritage. Fortunately, it was more than likely out of view of the blonde-haired woman, his hand covered by his hanging robes.
โI am here on a very important task, actually, miss.โ he said, his expression suddenly becoming very serious, although it was hard for him to hide the playful glint in his eyes. The knife-eared halfling was pretty high. โOfficial business and all that, nothing you should worry yourself about...โ
You know when someone says something like that and it just kind of makes you worry yourself about it? There was something in the way his shoulders were set, or perhaps his inflection when he spoke that invited that train of thought. It was if he wanted to make her pry, perhaps finding this game between them stimulating. Rai had been sitting there smoking for several hours at this point. He cracked his back, stretching his arms and yawning. Then he took another hit from the pipe he had claimed earlier, before tossing it haphazardly on the ground, ash and even embers scattering on the floor. A strange little creature clamored after it, scooping it up and scurrying off with the broken pipe and its' refuse. Raijin always loved that part. The whole making little people clean up after him thing was kind of his schtick when he visited this place.
As if to prove his point, he reached into his pocket and gathered up some trash he had collected over the course of the day just for this purpose. Again he littered, watching the same strange, scampering... Well, scamp. Did it eat the trash? Or did it just like to pick trash up? Was it currently employed here, or was this just... It's life?
So many questions. The biggest question, however, is why Raijin found this so interesting. His face had lit up into a jovial expression, and he had more than likely forgotten why he had begun this conversation in the first place. Perhaps if the girl spoke again he would be jarred back into cohesion... Women and booze usually had that effect on him. Or, the opposite.

369 words "Wretched hive of sin and opulence." An important task, apparently. 'Official business' was tacked on afterward, just to apparently assure her that his use of narcotics was sanctioned. Not that it was any of her business to lecture a god on how to destroy himself, but the Suzerain wondered just what sort of business would require getting inebriated on mind-altering substances? The way he said it also implied that it was some sort of case of interest. Significant interest, one should clarify. The kind of subtle reverse psychology, where someone attempted to dissuade other people from interfering with their plans by writing it off as nothing important. Or well, nothing too serious, considering he already said that the task was important. One would have to wonder if it was indeed because he didn't want her following him, or if it was because he was so high that he himself wasn't taking it all too seriously, and instead smoking his arse off in this drug den. It was not really in Mynia's personal interests to assist the rulership with their affairs. If he wanted her to stay out of it, then so be it. No harm in letting sleeping gods lie. In which case, she would let him go on with whatever his important task happened to be. Presumably, once he became sober enough to do it, at any rate. "Far be it from me to interfere with the workings of those from on high then," she answered. As one who grew up respecting authority and being able to justify it beyond 'because I said so', she was one of the few people in the galaxy who would be able to resist the temptation to follow and see just what sort of 'official business' this was. "But as it is so important, should it not be something that you must accomplish while sober? If so, then I can at least assist you in your purgation." Mynia had, in earlier times, done such things, more out of a curiosity than anything else. She didn't know a lot of people who fell to inebriety in her presence, after all. Raijin zoned out through most of what the girl was saying. The whole time she was talking he had been stretching, beginning to feel kind of out of it. His muscles buzzed with the opiate induced high, cracking his back and laughing. The only think he heard her ask him for was some sort of 'purgation'. Being part Shinjin, that made him think of purgatory. He shuddered at the thought, grimacing at the girl for a moment. Honestly, he wasn't sure what she asked him. But he should play along.
โPurgation? Sure. Yeah, let's do that! Of course, I assume your definition of purgation consists of something similar to mine.โ
With that, Raijin began to crackle with electricity. His whole demeanor shifted as his expression grew more serious. โI'm actually desperately in need of your help. See, right now I need to get some practice in. I've had some down time and I may have used a little too much of it! I'm not quite like the others of my kind, as you'll come to learn.โ he said, quietly. โFollow me.โ
He made his way to the door, weaving through the crowd. This place was a haven for good-for-nothing's such as himself. Rai kept an eye on his coin purse as he moved, although he doubted any of these simple minded addicts would be quick enough to get him. There was an alleyway next to the smoker's den that he--... Well, there was an alleyway next to the building that he was going to bring her. To fight.
This seemed really creepy, actually. Raijin wondered if she would actually follow him as he left the building and rounded the corner. A long, sprawling alley covered in graffiti stretched out in front of him. Pretty wide, too. A few hooligans eyed Rai and left the immediate area, finding a threat in the fact he crackled with plasma. If the woman had followed him he would address her:
โHelp me get some training in. I need it.โ

361 words "Wretched hive of sin and opulence." To be completely honest, Mynia had meant something else entirely when she had said 'purgation'. Not that she understood what he meant when he said it, but it was probably different from the idea he had in mind. To be fair, she never had the chance to let him know that she meant to 'purge himself of narcotic toxins' and return to sobriety. And that she could help out by getting his blood circulating in a spar. That being said, their differing definitions of purgation became moot, as he also recognized that he was not exactly in the right condition to be doing any serious business at the moment. The remedy to being rusty, of course, was to get back into shape by sparring. Nodding as a matter, because she wanted to fight him in the first place, the Suzerain stood up and quietly followed him out of the den and into a back alley. Well... It was a fairly spacious alley, at least. Perfect place to get a fight in. "It would be an honour to assist you in training. Let me just prepare myself, then." Charging some ki, she tossed her cape aside. In one swift motion, and through the use of some magic she had picked up, the Suzerain had changed into a set of clothes more suited for freedom of movement. Instead of a formal sword, she held a flag staff, flag still attached. She would begin spinning it, channeling her ki through and spreading it around into the field, as if to somehow turn it to her advantage. Space vaguely warped, as her power flowed out in minute quantities as if to use them as canary birds. Early warning of any particular tricks that might approach from the area of ki use. Mynia was familiar with the kais, of course. Her primary instructor was the Western Kai of her own universe. They were all experts at manipulating ki, in one way or another. It was best to have an early warning system set up. This having been established, the Suzerain took on a defensive stance and beckoned her opponent to make the first strike. "En Garde!" Raijin was surprised she had followed him. On top of that, he was amazed that she still thought it to be an 'honor' to assist him. This was actually interesting. For a change he felt that this wouldn't be a deathmatch. Good. Something relaxing, to liven him up. Rai went to start it off with a cheap move, just as she began twirling a flagstaff she had produced, infusing it with ki. The hybrid withdrew a small flask, pointing it towards the girl. Imagine his dissappointment when nothing happened. Frustrated, he discarded the bottle, narrowing his eyes in frustration. Just who was this warrior? She was quite interesting. Or, at least her techniques were. They seemed to be refined and yet unrelenting. Rai wondered exactly what kind of a mess he was in, just as he began to act. Clouds formed above them, as a simple spell manipulated the atmosphere just slightly. Rain began to fall. If a few drops landed on his opponent, they would find their limbs numb and their body lethargic. It was akin to exhaustion, the body sluggish and drained. Shortly after the rain came thunder. With thunder, lightning. Twin bolts of plasma hurtled from the heavens down towards the female fighter. Just then, Rai phased from view, revealing a current of electricity he had been gathering in the folds of his robe. Unleashing the attack with a flick of his wrist, a slashing arc of pure electrical energy came across the landscape, threatening to decimate the nearby wall of the opium den. 235 words "Wretched hive of sin and opulence." It appeared that this particular god ruled some aspect of weather. As soon as the rain fell, she felt it on her skin. It was nothing ordinary. Especially considering how this ringworld space station possessed climate control features that were supposed to give prior notice of changes in the weather. Like rain. So be it. She had tasted such pain before, and it only added to the experience of learning the capabilities of this universe's warriors. The Suzerain charged ahead at her opponent, feeding her energy to her flagstaff in an attempt to strike at the previously intoxicated god with enough force to... well... hurt a god, if it worked. A brief flurry of strokes toward his shoulders at blinding, rushing speed, followed by an attempted thrust into his stomach. It was at that moment that lightning struck, twice in the same place, no less. The staff may or may not have served as a lightning rod, but the most likely explanation was that this was the god's power at work. She did have a couple of points of her own, though... A brief moment to inhale, and the electricity surged throughout her body, refilling her leaking ki tank as one would picture in old commercials concerning batteries. When the god struck with his own bout of hand-held plasma, the flagstaff was ready to catch it. "I do believe it is a good fit, Sir. Your lightning is impressive." Rai grinned. As per usual, his tainted rain had worked in his favor. The flagstaff wielding fighter charged Raijin, just as his two searing bolts of plasma struck her. Perhaps it slowed her assault just long enough for Raijin to respond to her first flurry of attacks, bobbing and weaving as he narrowly avoided the bludgeoning weapon, the end of it actually grazing and bruising the Shinjin. This had been challenging enough for the half-blood, and the effects of such intensive yet nearly ineffective dodging caught up to him quickly as the woman buried the length of her flagstaff into his gut, knocking him off balance and sending him reeling. He grimaced in pain as his usually busted ribs re-broke with a sickening crunch and pop, the hybrid grunting in agony. One of them was definitely poking into his lung at least a little bit, making it uncomfortable for him to move around. It would take him a minute to recover from this with magic if he had to keep fighting at this pace, but Rai felt like he had no choice in the matter. This was one of those moments that you just had to keep going, despite the pain. Or, perhaps, to spite the pain. Either or suited the half-Shinjin. The youth quickly formulated a counter-attack, relying on a new spell he had cooked up. Focusing his energy, a strange mist began to form around the youth. This mist had a miasmic effect, poisoning any foe who dared breathe it in. Unfortunately, he couldn't attack at range with this. That would mean distancing himself from the talented melee fighter was not an option. Closing the small gap between the two, Rai crackled with plasma as he aimed a straight punch to the woman's face. To follow up the un-gentleman like attack, he aimed a vicious knee to her gut, hoping to break some of her ribs as a nice little thank you for what she had done to his own. It hurt him to move at this point, but Rai knew that it was necessary. There was no slowing down here- the plasma that had been gathering around him thickened and coalesced as he began to back off just far enough. Rai took aim at his sparring partner and grinned, laughing madly. A trace amount of blood ran from his mouth, a few droplets staining his robes. Still cackling, the Shinjin fired off a massive arc of lightning, hoping that his combo attack would leave the warrior reeling as the fight continued heating up. BATTLE TRACKER
