CHARACTER BIO
NAME: Liang Bai, styled Shiming. Her Valkyrie codename is Hlín.
RACE: Earthling.
AGE: 18.
GENDER: Female.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5'6" or 1.67 metres. 64 Kg.
APPEARANCE:
She has long black hair, vibrant blue eyes and a svelte build. Though toned, it's not brute strength that gives her power, but her knowledge of body mechanics to deliver explosive force. Ever since she regained sight, she began styling her hair and wearing prettier robes; possibly a sign of vanity.
MOTIVATIONS: Above all else, she seeks to do good in this universe and hone her fighting abilities. While the latter belief is uncommon for a Taoist monk of all people, she has found that she relishes in a good match, and believes this is the Tao's way of telling her that her "way of heaven" is to fight and protect others with her skills. In spite of her love for fighting, however, she would never, ever let her desire for strength get in the way of the greater good.
QUIRKS: Bai used to be blind, but that changed when she joined the Valkyries and acquired the Dragon Balls. She wished for her sight to be restored. She had developed her other sense to extraordinary levels because of this, and still trains them so as to not grow rusty. Due to her former lack of sight, her body has compensated by making her hearing excellent, and she trained her ki sense to excellent levels. She can make out people, their moves, and actions just by sensing their ki. She can hears things flying at her, and can make out her surroundings when she's alone by tapping her bo staff on the ground and hearing how sound moves and echoes, and even kick up sand to sense where it lands and detect her enemies.
As a person, Bai is a rather polite and reasonable woman. She is nice to every person she meets and never hesitates to help those in need, giving them her all to hopefully make their lives a little better. She speaks in a soft and melodious voice, and is actually a pretty good singer, even if she doesn't really sing too often. Like most of her type, she believes in good, peace, and overall, is like them, although those are where the similarities end. Unlike her kind she believes in taking action and taking fate into your own hands and making it what you desire, being proactive in the fight against evil, rather than the philosophy of non-action her peers preach. While they almost universally disagree with her way of thinking, most respect her for her actions and wish her luck.
Due to her upbringing, she is rather naive, not having been exposed to much evil or deceit just yet. Though she could potentially sense one's intentions by reading their ki, she can be fooled if someone suppresses and hides it. This can lead her into trouble if she's not careful, or if she isn't warned.
Another part of her personality that was unearthed in fights was her temper and passion. She does not hesitate to strike at vitals even when sparring against allies, and the more a fight progresses, the more she acts aggressive and impatient. This is a notable imbalance from the otherwise calm girl, perhaps from years of keeping a careful handle on her will to fight. The jury is out for whether or not it will be her doom.
BONDS: Both the Taoist monks she grew up with at her temple and the Shaolin monks she trained in combat with are close to her, and regardless of what happens, she wants to return to them one day to show them how much she grew.
Atreus is the first person that comes to mind when someone asks her about a friend, or someone she's close to. Despite their obvious affection for each other, they have yet to make a move. She does not yet know of her budding feelings for him, but still, she trusts him implicitly. He could literally tell her to walk into lava and she'd do it; she trusts him that much. It's one of the reasons she joined the Valkyries upon his request, apart from wanting to fight the Galactic Empire.
She also knows people in the Valkyries, but wouldn't go as far as call them friends. Not yet, at least. Still, Atreus trusts them, so she will do the same.
BACKSTORY: Liang Bai was born in a rural area north of Yahhoy, a healthy and normal baby save for one trait. Her blindness.
Her parents, who needed someone to work on their farm, didn't want to keep a blind baby who would need special care and attention they weren't ready to give, and thus, was abandoned at Fukurou Forest, destined to die if it weren't for a stroke of luck that would change her life forever.
A Taoist monk happened to be on a pilgrimage at the time, and heard the sounds of a baby crying, causing him to move to investigate, finding the newborn girl cold and alone. Not knowing how to deal with a baby, but unwilling to let her die, he brought her with him back to the temple he resided at, presenting her to them and explaining what had happened. At point, the only thing left to do was for them to raise her as one of their own, and so that's what happened. For the next few years, she was raised there with Taoist teachings and values, and she adapted to this life splendidly well, for the most part.
As she grew older, she began questioning some of the teachings he had received. Mainly, the reason as to why the Tao led people down the path of evil, and why it allowed said evil to interfere with the lives of other innocent people going their own way. Was it simply their way to have their lives ruined? She couldn't believe that. And so part of her faith was removed from her, and she decided the only way she was going to help was if she took action in fighting against evil, something preached against in Taoism. She found a Shaolin temple and asked to be trained there, and after several trials, was accepted, honing her skills and finding out she loved fighting in spite of being blind. Within the next few years, the Shaolin temple became like a second home to her, with her going back and forth between the two as she made new friends. Overall, she was a happy girl. She never let the fact that she never knew her true parents get her down.
Eventually, however, she knew she had to set out. As soon as she came of age, Bai bid farewell to her friends and those she considered family, going out on her own to discover the universe she had only ever heard of, and to hopefully grow as a person.
CALL TO ACTION: Her desire to make her mark on the universe and bring the fight to evil. As soon as she was of age, she set out.
