CHARACTER BIO
NAME:
His Imperial Majesty, Polaris I, Emperor of the First Galactic Empire, Hero of the Galaxy, Savior of the Innocent, Champion of the People, Lord of Mitra and Abbayor. Usually goes by Polaris, though.
RACE:
Frost Demon / Frieza Clan
AGE:
37 (was 35 when first apped, two years have passed.)
GENDER:
M
HEIGHT/WEIGHT:
5'5" / 65 kg
APPEARANCE:
(thanks to KC for this art piece!)
MOTIVATIONS:
Despite what you might hear of him somewhere in the Galactic News Network or in newspapers distributed across Abbayor, Polaris is not motivated by the need to do good or because of the care he expresses towards his people. Quite the opposite - the man is a coldblooded pragmatic with little sense of right or wrong, bordering on sociopathic behavior. What truly motivates him is his personal lust for material gain - be it wealth, power, or especially recognition. All hailing from a deep rooted, hidden, but omnipresent feeling of weakness and impending failure, a relic of his time in the Frieza Force and his status as a Frost Demon without potential.
There is only one subject Polaris can truly claim to be emotionally invested in - and that is his personal crusade against Saiyans. What has driven him, generally a collected person who always keeps up a facade of extravagance and politeness, to try to repeat Lord Frieza's mistake? Only Polaris knows, and he has no plans to tell anyone why. As if it was something embarrassing, or a part of his personality he himself doesn't like.
QUIRKS:
Polaris has built his life upon a foundation of lies, trickery and the fooling of the masses, and even after his ascension to the Imperial throne, this remains a central part of his character. Under his leadership, the First Galactic Empire has been reformed into a totalitarian regime, his cult of personality, already high and commonplace even before the palace coup, has reached unprecedented levels, so much so that it is hard for anyone trying to research to tell what is truth and what is myth.
Polaris himself has striking charisma and is an excellent diplomat, knowing how to play into people's emotions, make a good show, change his positions and opinions on a whim and achieve what he wants in the end. This, as well as his pragmatism, is what differentiates him from "old school" Frost Demon emperors such as Frieza, Cooler and even Glacio and Snow. You'd be hard pressed to find Polaris openly torturing or killing a subordinate for merely failing a mission - after all, what's the chance of defeating your enemy on the second attempt if you're just going to kill your veteran soldiers? That's not to say that Polaris lacks the habit of torture and murder that his fellow Frost Demons often exhibit - he doesn't, far from it, but he would much rather lash out on the enemy rather than his own men.
BONDS:
Eis - Officially known as Empress Consort Eis, she is a former member of the Galactic Patrol (before it was replaced with the Empire) who is Polaris's wife, and the mother of his two children, Absolut and Arctica. Though formerly struck by love for the fellow Frost Demon, their relationship has gone very, very cold over the years. Alongside their younger child, Arctica, she is currently in custody for plotting against the Imperial regime - a fairly cozy custody which more resembles a villa, but confinement nonetheless.
Absolut - Polaris's elder son and the unofficial heir to the Imperial throne. Exposed to his father's heroic exploits throughout his childhood and growing enamored by them, he joined the Galactic Patrol to follow in his footsteps, only to be forced to flee Abbayor after the establishment of the Empire, shattering his whole world in the process. He is currently under Cam's protection.
Kusubu - One of the stronger members of Polaris's Ultramarines, a demoness whom the Frost Demon got the chance to spar with a number of times since their first meeting. Though keeping up an act of caring for her potential and motivating her to push forward, in reality, he couldn't care less about her, who, to him, is merely one of the millions of cogs in his Empire's well-oiled machine.
Colonel Pricota, Major Audrey - Two fellow members of the Patrol who had had chances to meet and spar Polaris before the establishment of the Empire. Unfortunately, both of them have chosen the path of rebellion instead of servitude, so any possible respect for them has gotten erased, to be replaced by a desire to eliminate their stubborn Valkyrie group as soon as possible.
Xell - A Shinjin from Universe 2 whom Polaris sees as a rival, although this relationship appears to be one-sided. Three sparring matches later, their power has gotten close enough that even Xell has complimented how far Polaris has grown, but nothing more. Xell is also the only person to whom Polaris has, though off-handedly, revealed his ultimate plan to finish what Frieza started and destroy the Saiyan species once and for all. His presence is also one of the reasons why Polaris has had to begrudgingly accept the Patrol refugee flight to Earth, instead of chasing after them.
Etohn - Polaris's former Saiyan rival. No matter how far Polaris went or how much he tried to push his weak body past its limits, that rotten, disgusting Saiyan would keep one-upping him... at least until he achieved his Fifth Form. Unknowingly to them both, the infuriating rivalry with Etohn was the fertile soil in which Polaris's deep hatred for the entire Saiyan species grew out of.
BACKSTORY:
Hopelessly outdated, because a lot of shit happened during the RP. Long story short, Poli is an emperor now.
It is quite odd to find a Frost Demon in the Galactic Patrol - perhaps because the former is one of the most infamous and evil races in the Universe, while the latter is an organization which was created to oppose their Frieza Force - but Polaris is one of the few managed to break the stereotype. He is the son of Gelid, a minor Frost Demon lord who used to be an important member of the new Frieza Force. Unlike his father and brothers, Polaris was not very interested in engaging in mass planetary genocide, selling worlds and ruthlessly ruling over an empire, but that doesn't mean that he was a nice guy - the little child was cunning and deceitful, pretty much a chronic liar and not unfamiliar with dirty tactics when sparring, like throwing sand into his opponent's face or making them believe that someone is behind them. While he lacked the brutality and ferocity that his father exhibited, and, compared to his race, he was quite weak, Gelid still saw him with disinterest - without power, he could, at best, rise up to be a minor commander or a Special Forces member somewhere, but nothing more.
How did a person like him end up in the Patrol? Well, it was a very unlikely occurrence, really, and in many ways, it started out as a weird teenage phase.
While Gelid viewed Polaris with disinterest, Polaris viewed Gelid with contempt. Their personalities clashed, and as the child grew, so did his ambitions, which could not be fulfilled by just becoming a mere grunt, no matter how powerful he was. After a particularly heated argument, Polaris fled his home planet and left the Frieza Force, wandering across the Universe for some time before he decided to spit on his father for one last time and join his faction's complete opposite - the Galactic Patrol. He landed on one of the organization's planets, weaved a complex sob story about how he wished to "escape the evils of his race and find a way to redeem his species by serving for the forces of good", went through all the training courses, defeated the superiors' doubts about allowing a Frost Demon of all people to serve and eventually got accepted as a Patrolman.
Under any normal circumstances, Polaris would have probably abandoned the Patrol as quickly as he arrived, he definitely didn't fit with the organization's zeitgeist, and his application was almost just a phase - however, at the same time, he realized that he could fulfill all that he wanted here. The Patrolmen and the peoples of the Universe were easy to fool, and by working within the system, he could achieve power, achieve wealth, achieve fame, all with nobody interfering and much more quickly than he ever could if he stayed in the Frieza Force. Polaris had a few set of goals now.
Over fifteen years of service in the Galactic Patrol have passed, and Polaris, now a Lieutenant, ran a much different life than he envisioned at the start of his career. To billions of people across the Universe, he became a paragon, a symbol of heroism and proficient the Frost Demons could produce good people, not just evil bastards. He was noted for his bravery in combat, his pure-hearted nature and his loyalty to the Galactic Patrol. At the same time, Polaris freely exploited the people he protected and fought for, running a number of Ponzi schemes under different aliases with the goal of taking money from fools and giving it to himself and his followers, the Ultramarines. The most widespread and successful one is the so-called "Security Voucher" system. It is presented to work like space insurance: you pay monthly subscription payments and, when the need arises, you are supposed to be able to obtain money to rebuild your home, or your city, or your limbs - however, because of a number of unmentioned asterisks attached and the anonymity of the people running the system, you are lucky if you ever get paid when you actually need it, while millions from subscription payments are channelled into the pockets of "Mr. Natas", who is supposedly responsible for this system, but can't be found on any records. Not to mention that only the person who bought the voucher can cash it in, so if they die (very common with space pirate attacks, or, worse, Saiyan War casualties), any chance of payment is lost and the money stays in the gang's pockets.
Millions of people have already fallen for that scam with many more to come, and who knows - maybe the fact that the famous Patroller, Lieutenant Polaris, recommends everyone to subscribe for a security voucher as a "safe of sorry" solution has to do with it...
While serving as a Patrolman first and a "businessman" second, Polaris also kept contact with the tiny Frost Demon community in the Galactic Patrol, and this let to him getting acquainted with Eis, a Frost Demon Galactic Patrolwoman. After a long affair, the two eventually got married, and this marriage resulted in two children, nine year old Absolut and five year old Arctica. Unlike her husband, Eis is a patrolwoman by heart, and truly believes in the organization's cause - unlucky for Polaris, as she is also one of the few people who knows about his shady dealings... She hasn't reported anyone about this (yet), but, as it should be obvious, the marriage has become quite strained.
A hero at day and a villain at night, Polaris is a savior to millions and a complete fraud. It should come as no surprise that his biggest fear is not the Frieza Force nor any of the so-called Super Saiyans, but rather someone more heroic or villainous than him leaking the truth...
