CHARACTER BIO
NAME: Yoshokua "Sho"
RACE: Half-Saiyan, Half-Xeno (Saiyan Dominant Race)
AGE: Twenty-three.
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5' 9", 168 lbs.
APPEARANCE:
Yoshokua tends to travel light, but has a variety of hoi poi capsules all over his body labelled for various cooking necessities. He generally tends to stick out due to his eclectic tastes in fashion. It's not hard to look at this kid and immediately know he's not from around these parts: his clothes are always a little bit tattered, and he's always a little bit dirty.
MOTIVATIONS: Yoshokua genuinely believes that food is the great equalizer. He's been to many corners of the galaxy through his life while drifting as a kid with his father, and too often he's seen physical power dictate people's lives. While his focus has been in the culinary arts, he's been trained to fight and will do so in self defense or when fighting is the only option to solve an issue. While generally anti-violence, Yoshokua does believe there are issues that can only be solved with combat, and tries to make it a last-ditch choice whenever conflict arises. Sho aims to build a more peaceful future, and not one that works on raw strength as it has in the new era.
When it comes to travel, Yoshokua is generally guided by his own sense of curiosity. Even if he's been to a lot of the galaxy, Sho realizes that he honestly doesn't know that much about the universe and seeks hands-on knowledge about everything there is. Recently, he's had great interest in reuniting with Saiyan society, as he's never really gotten a chance to experience his father's culture first hand, and wants to know more.
QUIRKS: Yoshokua is a laid-back person who view the world through a lens of curiosity. The most important thing for him in his life right now is to experiment and master the culinary arts, so he's been traveling throughout the universe to learn more about each planet's unique delicacies, produce, and meat. Sho can come off as pretty naive, but that mostly stems from his optimistic nature. More than anything, he thinks that food and compassion can bring the best out of people, so he often doesn't come into relationships with other folks with a sense of being on-guard. Yoshokua generally just always wants to believe that people will be their best until they disprove that sentiment.
There's a flip side to that naivete in the fact that once someone is seen as a rotten person or if they've hurt or wronged a good person, Sho has a hard time backing down on his belief. It's hard for him to completely understand and accept a person if they're trying to do better after a wrongdoing, and it takes awhile for him to turn back on someone.
BONDS: Rugavega is Yoshokua's dad. He used to be a low class Saiyan warrior back in the day, but after being frustrated with how he couldn't move up in Saiyan society, he decided to leave. Rugavega and Yoshokua don't have the healthiest relationship: for one, they haven't seen each other in five years. In certain respects, Yoshokua really respects his father for bringing him up and teaching him a bit about the world, but he also despises the man's outlook. Rugavega is a person who believes that raw strength and brutality are the only real qualities that decide who is worthy of surviving, and that greatly conflicts with Yoshokua's personal viewpoints. Rugavega views his son as a kind of failure due to his anti-violence point of view, and essentially abandoned him after he turned eighteen. Yoshokua recently learned his father died, and that's urged him to try and find a way to make the world a better place, so that people like his father don't have to exist with the mindset they do.
BACKSTORY: Rugavega was a low class Saiyan warrior in a long line of low class Saiyan warriors. For decades, the men in his family wanted for more in Saiyan society, and tried their best to move up the societal ladder. Rugavega had seen his father struggle to reach something beyond low class, and his father had seen Rugavega's grandfather do the same thing. After beginning the same cycle and feeling the same frustration his ancestors had, Rugavega decided to break the cycle and left Saiyan society.
Then, after a few years, Yoshokua was born from a mother on a planet far away from New Sadla. Sho doesn't really remember or know much about the woman who birthed him, other than his father commenting from time to time about how he gets his hair color from his mother. Yoshokua mostly just remembers moving from town to town, city to city, planet to planet, and not much else earlier than that. Frankly, Yoshokua doesn't even know why his father kept him around, as he remembers his father constantly treating him like a burden from a very young age.
For years, Rudavega and Yoshokua drifted the galaxy together, as Rudavega ended up taking up a job as a Bounty Hunter. The money from bounties kept them fed and moving, and by the time Yoshokua turned four, Rugavega was already trying to instill some level of Saiyan upbringing into his child. Rudavega pushed Sho to fight constantly, to kill, and to assert his strength. No matter how many times Rugavega seemed to push Saiyan values onto his son, however, Sho always had a bit of hesitation.
Yoshokua was a curious child, who asked his father consistently about the world around him even though his father constantly chided him for doing so. One of the few nurturing things that Rugavega did for his child was to feed him, and even though they had an unhealthy father-son dynamic, it was the decent food his father made for him at a young age that instilled Yoshokua with a small sense of love for his father.
Eventually, Yoshokua started cooking in order to show his appreciation for his dad, even if Rugavega couldn't give the kind of love that Sho wanted. By the time Sho turned ten, he started fighting alongside his father, but often had a distaste for how brutal Rugavega was. Whenever his father sensed some sort of softness in Yoshokua, he'd try to instill that old-fashioned Saiyan hardness into him through violence, either by hurting Sho or demonstrating brutality.
As the years passed by, Sho became a better cook and became more resistant with his anti-violent nature. He tended to fight his father more on the way they did things, and eventually Rugavega had enough and abandoned his child as he became an adult. The past few years, it's been Yoshokua's own will to become a better cook and his own curiosity that made him a traveller, until recently...
CALL TO ACTION: A week and a half ago, Sho recieved communications that his father had died of natural causes. Naturally, he was the only person at the funeral, and after a lot of reflection Yoshokou decided he wanted to try and make the world a better place, where people like his father wouldn't have to believe strength is the end all and be all.
