Dain could not help but feel similar to his companion. He did not appreciate it being pushed around. On the other hand he was very interested in this place. He had no doubt there was something to be salvaged from it. What really started to irk him though was his companion. Until now she had been pleasant enough, but now she finally seemed to show what she really was. A young brat, with a temper. “Touchy aren’t we…” He said with a cold tone in his voice as he removed the hand from her shoulder. “Have it your way though, why don’t we-” He was just about to say something, when suddenly the giant interrupted him with it’s thundering voice.
“Oh I would not dare to command you miss Lilith. It is a fact. Or well mostly. In 83% of all futures you succeed. Also it is not a request. As I said this planet is failing and once it does, reality as you know it will fail and you will be stuck in a dimension your race cannot survive. Dimension nine is a place where everything is compressed into a single point, time, life, everything radiating from it, forms the previous dimension. It is why my creators build this place here. Originally this outpost was a research lab. Hmm… I guess to translate for your mortal brain… once I fail, all that will be left is a black hole. You will fix it. I have seen it and you have little choice.” It said still pleasant, without a shred of malice in it’s voice and Dain began to suspect that the giant had no reason to. If he was correct to it, they were not even insects. Or perhaps merely an event that had already happened?
He was not unfamiliar with all the theories of quantum mechanics and time theories, but just thinking about it gave him a headache.
Suddenly in the distance a gigantic building appeared though. From what Dain could tell it was several hundred meters high and stretching kilometers wide. If he was a betting man he guessed that was the place of the battery. “Although miss Lilith, if you want to be rude, I can be as well. You should not fear death, there is much much worse. If you want I could force you into the fourth dimension and simply… fail, as you cannot even comprehend it.” The giant suddenly said with a much darker tone of voice, as it turned it’s head towards the two.
Just then they reached the building and they were lowered in front of two doors that seemed to be build for ordinary humans. Well tall humans. The doors were at least fifteen feet high and ten high.
“Is that why you can’t fix the problem yourself?” Dain asked, hoping to defuse the situation a little. It was a legitimate question though. It was obvious that the giant was much to big to enter the building himself. All he got was a mere nod though. The giant still giving Lilith a dark look.
“Miss Evermore! Please let’s go inside and discuss our options there!” Dain suddenly said with an authority in his voice, he rarely used. It was not disrespectful. More like a general telling it’s master what to do for safety. Respectful, yet commanding. “I do believe it is safer in there, then it is out here!” Dain continued as he jumped of the gigantic hand and moved to the doors. If this building was as important as he believed it was highly unlikely that the giant would attack it it they tried something.
Luckily the black metal doors swung open easily, despite their obvious sturdiness. There must have been a mechanism behind it, allowing the several ton heavy doors to open this easily. At the very least it was not a bad sign and impressive one as well. For them to still work after so much time. “Well I am going in. I do hope you join me.” He said as he stepped forward, instantly causing lights to slowly start jumping on in the corridor. Revealing a long corridor, leading to a staircase at the end. One going up, one going down.
“Goodluck and watch out. When I went to sleep I put on the automated guards and traps. I have tried to disable them, but it seems there was a problem and I am unable to reach sections of the building. So some of it is safe, yet some places are not. I wish I could help you, but as I said you will succeed in 69% of all outcomes.”
