Another day was in the books and night had fallen over Space Vegas. This meant one thing, it was time for the small raccoon, Sly, to make some extra cash. In his normal fashion he had a plan to make his wanted money in a less than legal way. In the center of a popular club/casino mixer, Sly could be seen being his loud and boisterous self at a Blackjack table. Frustrated and annoyed patrons could be seen sitting to his left and right, as the raccoon loudly bragged about his multiple winnings. Their faces surely would be much angrier if they were aware, Sly was cheating them all.
The cards were dealt out once more and the drunk raccoon pounded the table as he exclaimed,
"Dealer! Hit me with another card."
A sigh of annoyance left the lips of the dealer as he flipped another card to the raccoon. The dealer wished for nothing more than the raccoon's luck to finally be out, but it wasn't. Another sigh escaped his mouth as he muttered the words,
"Blackjack, you win again sir."
The table moaned and grunted in displeasure, However Sly cheered loudly and raised his drink high above his head as he continued to scream and holler,
"Another round for me! Someone bring me a drink."
This behavior would continue throughout the night, until his drunken demeanor began to catch the eye of security. Multiple large creatures in black suits surrounded the small raccoon, one of them placing a hand on his shoulder. The small raccoon looked up towards the creatures,
"What seems to be the problem here?"
As a snort and hiccup followed his statement, security responded by tightening their grip on the raccoon. Forcefully they began to attempt to lift the raccoon out of his seat. One of the security team members blurted out,
"You've won enough for the night, and you have had more than enough to drink. It's time for you to go sir."
Sly being the loud and obnoxious raccoon he is immediately began to resist. A small scuffle ensued between the group. As the scuffle continued several cards fell out of the sleeve of the little raccoon. This caused the whole table to erupt in screams and yells of accusations of him being a cheater and a thief. Sly looked at his cards now on the ground and muttered the words, "well shit." More security members pounced on him, and they eventually were able to get a hold of him and began to escort him out.
Sly yelled as he was being forced out,
"Hey what about my money! That's my money! I won it fair and ermmmm square! Give me my winnings and I will leave."
He was thrown out of the front door by security and the raccoon landed face first in a puddle of dirt and grime. As the door closed one of the security members could be heard yelling towards Sly.
"That's not your money you roach! It's ours now."
Clearly frustrated, Sly began to pick himself up from the dirt. He could be heard muttering multiple curse words to himself under his breath.

A bright flash of light from a cheap disposable camera Niha holds in her grasp cuts through the night like a knife through butter before it dims again to darkness. She hovers in the air above, standing underneath a large fountain display that's been illuminated by several colorful lights colored in an alternating rainbow of hues. She lowers the camera to check the picture with a content smile. It came out perfect! She cycled through the rest of the pictures on the camera and passes through various shots of the brightly lit casinos and statue displays they've erected for the tourist population. Niha heard wonderful things about Space Vegas from the Earthlings passing through Port Brief and word of it seemed to spread across the entire universe wherever she seemed to go. She finally took it upon herself to make a stop since she was in the quadrant anyway! It was all the easier to make the time for it with the little ship she finally managed to save up for. It was a small used pod-craft that barely had enough room for her, but she never traveled with much company anyway. The only company she kept while abroad were the other people forced to rely on public transport services. If she met a friend that she needed to take somewhere, Niha figured that she would be able to squish them in if it came down to it. So far, her trip was enjoyable, though they wouldn't let her play like the others in the casino. They required adults of a certain age and Niha had no physical way of proving her age. When she told one of the dealers that she was a hundred years old, they merely laughed at the idea and shoo'd her away to more kid-appropriate areas. These were usually massive indoor playground structures where parents that made poor life choices dropped off their little mistakes to have some fun just like they used to in the good old days. Niha had fun playing with young people, but she didn't want to be stuck there the entirety of her trip. So, her trip mainly became sight-seeing and visiting shows and buffets where they didn't care how old she was. Niha flies down, awkwardly opening a paper map to figure out where the next stop on her tour is. In trying to juggle and fumble between prying the crinkled brochure open and keeping her camera safe, the map ends up drifting down from her hands. Shoot! She tries to drift down to catch it, but the push of air her Ki made pushed the paper out of her reach whenever she would get close to it. This stop and go chase would inevitably end with the map finally hitting the ground in one of the dirty puddles. "No, no, no, no!" Niha quickly mumbles by the time it's too late to stop it and she lands to try to gather it up off the ground. She shakes it out with a pout on her features watching as the dirty ground-water darkens the lines and markings until it's nothing more than soggy pulp. Quietly she'd groan and whine before she tried to look around for a trash can or dumpster where she could dispose of it. Leaving it carelessly on the ground would be littering and Niha did not want to break the law by dirtying the streets. In her search, she barely notices a small grumbling creature trying to gather themselves up out of the dirt. In the darkness, he just seemed to blend right in! " O-Oh, are you okay?!" Niha asks Sly urgently, abandoning her map to drift over to him to double-check him for any bumps or bruises with a concerned frown. It was hard to control the maternal and doting instinct that struck her when she first saw him because to her he just seemed like a small and adorable raccoon. The black markings around his eyes reminded her of a little mask and the fingers on his hands were so small like an infant's. From what she could gather from a glance, he didn't appear to be too physically hurt, but he must have been through a terrible night. The smell of alcohol seemed to cling to his damp fur like a wine stain spilled over an old shag carpet. It was probably best for her to ignore that sour, pungent odor. Who knows if he got it by just laying in this alley, or maybe someone spilled their drinks on him and he fell out here trying to scrub it off of him. Niha needed to get to the bottom of this before she jumped to any conclusions. She reaches out to help him with getting to his feet before she asks him, " What happened to you? Did you trip and fall? Are you lost out here?" Niha rests a hand on her chest and introduces herself, " My name is Niha, by the way. I can give you directions if you need them. Or...I could. If I didn't mess up my map...but I could remember the way back for the most part." She lifts her head to squint up at the night sky, silently trying to retrace her steps in her mind. The last thing she needed was to get them both lost by accident. WC: 892 Sly

As he slowly lifted himself up to his feet, he felt a soft touch on his shoulder, which was followed by an even softer and concerning sounding voice. His eyes drifted up and a slight smile on his face could be seen. It had been a long time since the raccoon had crossed someone genuinely nice without desires of greed in their hearts. A perfect opportunity thought the raccoon as he started to dust himself off.
“Thank you, Thank you very much. My names Sly, I am just a humble hard working raccoon. I..... I.... came here to just have some fun. I went inside that club to make a bet or two for entertainment, but they got mad cause I won. I actually won a large amount of money, about 10,000 zenni. When I went to collect my winnings, the owner had his security jump me and steal everything in my pockets. They beat me up and kicked me out.”
Almost everything that left his lips was a lie, other than his name. But the opportunity to get some free help to a rob a place was to good to pass up. Purposely he quivered his body to show a sign of faked fear, his eyes drifted slowly back upwards to his new helpful friend,
“You... you... look strong. Can you help me get my winnings back and... maybe my dignity ?”

Sly, what a fun name for a raccoon, she thought to herself. They did kind of look like sneaky little bandits with their fur, and they probably had the wit of a fox behind them to make the name fitting. She kept her musings to herself out of fear of offending the little guy. It might seem like she was trying to accuse him of being a thief, which wasn't at all what she was intending to do! Niha listens to the story and looks up at the door to the casino behind them with a frown. That sounded horribly unfair! This little guy just wanted to escape from the tedium of his boring life and get out to have some fun just like she was. How could they throw him out just because they lost a little money from their profits? She did hear rumors grumbled under the breaths of disappointed gamblers about how rigged some of these games were. Things like how they thought some of the roulette machines were designed so the person spinning them could choose where the ball would really land and orchestrated distractions set up with actors at tables to take the odds out of your favor. She wanted to desperately believe that these were just old wive's tales and not the truth. " Ten thousand zeni..." Niha repeats after Sly, shaking her head slowly and seeming oblivious to the raccoon's lies. " This won't stand at all! We'll just have to march right back in there and ask the manager to return your things and your winnings. If they don't want to, then we'll just tell them that we'll report them to the authorities for theft and assault. The law is on our side." The fact that law in its traditional sense was lost on the majority of Space Vegas didn't seem to occur to her as she starts to fly to the door to lead the way for Sly. She glances at the raccoon over her shoulder with a hesitant expression as her eyes drift down to inspect herself in confusion. Niha didn't believe herself to be strong in the way most people thought themselves to be strong. She wasn't sure how being strong would apply to this situation at all but wanted to believe that he meant that he thought that she would not back down with him when presented with pressure. She didn't want anyone to have to get hurt more than they already were in this situation and wanted to try to find a peaceful solution that everyone could happily walk away from. He was so pitiful the way he shivered timidly with his dampened fur though, and the way his sad eyes shined in the light of the alley cemented her decision. She had to help him out, there would be no arguing that. "I promise that I'll do everything that I can to help you." She tells Sly, raising her hand to give her word to the victimized creature. " You'll get everything that's yours and you won't have to worry about your dignity. Just lead me to who we'll be talking to, and I'm sure that we'll be able to figure something out. You'll be safe with me." She reaches out to open the door and hold it open for Sly to guide the way inside. Part of her was excited, she was going to actually get to see the inside of a Casino properly! She wondered if there would be enough time to take some more pictures after their business there was finished. WC: 595 | Total WC: 1,487 Sly

The look on her face said it all, if Sly wasn’t trying to portray a victim so hard he would of been forced to grin from ear to ear. Hook, line, and sinker, she had fallen for the trap laid out by the pesky raccoon. He merely nodded in response to Niha as the duo approached the door. Hesitantly he approached the door being held open for him, before entering he shot one more glance of pathetic to his ally. The glance was to cement her loyalty to him. a66.tinypic.com/2r7sgf9.jpgQuietly he whispered to himself as he entered the casino, so just he could hear. “All right ,Sly put on your game face. It’s show time.” He strolled through the front of the casino and walked straight to a customer service desk. The employee, clearly not recognizing him from before, greeted him with a false smile and asked how she could help, “I .... I.... was here earlier and won some money. Your security...... took my winnings.. and... and... kicked me out. Can I speak with a manager and security supervisor to get to the bottom of this?” He looked back to Niha and shot her one more look of absolute depression before facing the employee again. The worker instantly becoming suspicious, nodded and made a quick phone call. Within moments, a thunderous amount of footsteps could be heard approaching them from the rear. It was what appeared to be a manager and a litany of armed security staff. Sly could simply destroy the entire staff and the casino if he pleased, but he was enjoying the victim role all too much. As they approached he looked over to Niha once more. “Don’t let them hurt me again.” Once the distance was closed the group of men surrounded them. A large hulk of a man grabbed the raccoon by his throat and slammed him against a nearby wall. In efforts to milk the incident for Niha, Sly whimpered and forced a tear or two to fall from his eyes. The manager instantly began to yell, “We told you!!! You are not welcome here, that is our money, not yours. You are going to force us to have to do some bad things to get the message across.” The rage was clear in the face of the manager. His face was red, veins could be seen blushing, and for some reason he was sweating profusely in the nice A/C the casino provided. His attention swiftly diverted to Niha and his anger continued to spill over towards her, “And what the hell is someone like you doing with some like that. Do you need to be taught a lesson as well? You can not steal from us!” WC: 456 TWC: 1,215 Niha

Niha's head tilts up as she drifts along beside of Sly with her feet not quite touching the ground beneath her, following his lead while the bright lights and sounds of the casino capture her attention. Most of the machines were all neatly lined up in rows, and the tables were filled with a variety of people laughing while they enjoyed the company and drinks around them. It was just like what they showed on the advertisements outside! She wondered how people here were able to keep their heads enough to not get lost in all the stimulation. Without windows or clocks around here, she figured that she could waste days or hours without noticing anything was amiss. When they reach the customer service desk the small girl comes to a stop beside the raccoon. Niha flashes the woman manning it a warm and friendly smile, she seemed to be a friendly woman. She notices Sly looking up to her for reassurance, so she rests a gentle hand on his shoulder to offer a soft squeeze in support. " Thank you so much! I'm sure that it was just a misunderstanding." Niha tells the woman gratefully. She couldn't help but wonder if she was worried earlier over nothing? This was going smoothly enough so far. Sly was probably still disorientated from what happened. He might have still been scared and just assumed the worst. There shouldn't be a need to look tough or fight anyone at all. The stomping steps have her looking over her shoulder with a frown curving her lips. Was someone trying to bring an animal inside the club? Well, a nonsentient animal. It sounded like it must have been a herd of buffalo stampeding through. There were no buffalo that Niha could see, only the manager and the security leading through a marching charge down the walkway to the customer service desk. The dark and fuming emotions that reflected on their expressions felt a little much for trying to settle a simple disagreement, but then again, Sly did say that they roughed him up to steal his things. Maybe Niha was quick to assume that the raccoon was just exaggerating. It was also probably too much to hope that they could deal with things peacefully now. " Don't worry, Sly. I'll make sure that they won't do it again. Let's just try talking to them. The best way to deal with bullies is to reach out to them." She whispers down to him, yelping in surprise when she's caught off guard by the poor raccoon man getting lifted up and smacked against the wall. She flies swiftly over and grabs the hulking man's hand to yank on it and try to pry it away from Sly's throat. " There's no need for this violence!" She pleads with the security while trying to free Sly, " My friend says that he won his money fair and square and you all took it from him. He would please like if it were returned to him. I know that it must be hard to run a business that has to give away money, money that I'm sure you all must work very hard for, but that's the way luck is sometimes. You win some, you lose some. I'm sure that you all will be able to make it back in no time." She blinks in clear confusion when the man's venom is turned her way and she tries to squeeze herself between Sly and the mob, keeping herself between the two of them to stand as a wall of defense for him to hide behind. What did they mean by that? She didn't do anything wrong standing up for her friend here. Niha clears her throat, shaking her head as she politely tells the casino staff, " Thank you, but I need no lessons and we are no thieves. I'm sure that this can be settled without anymore manhandling. Or raccoon-handling." She holds out a hand in a placating gesture to keep them at bay, " Let's all just take a deep breath and talk this out, okay?" WC: 683 | Total WC: 2,170 Sly

A moment of silence filled the area, it was awkward and felt entirely too long. Sly, quietly stood behind his protector, trying his best to not to smile too bright. Once the guards managed to wrap their minds about all the things that came from Niha, the anger flared once more from the manager and the rest of the crew. It was becoming every more evident that this situation would not solve it self through peaceful measures. A fat stubby finger from the manager began pointing at Niha and the raccoon, his demeanor becoming increasingly aggressive at every word that left his lips. "Are you just a perpetual liar, or just so dense and dumb you have no idea what has gone on here. This talking raccoon did not win based off of luck, he cheated. We caught him with cards shove up his sleeves so he could switch them to win every time. He likely would of gotten away with it if he didn't become such a loud, obnoxious , and sloppy drunk! That raccoon is a thief, liar, and a pure down scoundrel. If you associate with him then it is safe to assume you are the same or just stupid." The man's voice began to shade an octave or two higher from the incessant yelling. This made even the likes of Sly feel bad for his helper. It had been a long time since he saw someone with pure intentions. Had the raccoon slipped down so far that he would prey upon such a person? Someone who only saw the best in him and wanted to help him in every way possible. All of this self examination raced through his mind as the manager finished his tirade of insults about the two. The raccoon's head sunk low for a moment, he decided it was time to come clean and get his money as well. Clearly the wounded animal trick would not pay off how he expected. Also at the going rate of things, he would end up getting the poor girl hurt in the process. A sigh escaped his snout as he responded to the manager and group of guards, "She is not dumb and she is not a thief or liar. She.. she is just nice and I took advantage of that. I thought with her pleasant and can do attitude that we could get the money without a whole fuss. Unfortunately, that seems like it's gonna be inevitable." Another sigh left the raccoon as his face looked up towards Niha, "Thank you for your help. They are right about me though, I am just a sneak raccoon looking to make an easy buck. It's who I am, but I will say it was rather nice to have someone look at me like I could be a decent person. Thanks for the encouragement. If I were you, I would make now the time to exit. Explore the rest of Space Vegas, but I warn you it isn't much different than here. Uhhhh.. Well.... Welcome to Space Vegas." He gave a sheepish smile and a slight wink at the girl before his aura would explode and fill the room with a dark blue light. He would grow taller and his fur lightened as he powered to his maximum level. The building shook with energy, windows exploded from the outpouring of pressure. The manager and guards dropped their weapons and began to flee for their life. He had no intentions of harming anyone inside the casino, but he could understand how his transformation could portray that message. Sly was there for one thing and one thing only at this point, money, and he wanted as much of it as possible. His eyes narrowed as he found his target near the back of the casino. The raccoon took off in flight at blistering speed, ramming his small frame through a safe door near the back of the casino. His pace continued as he emptied the safe of it's cash and whatever other valuable he managed to find within it. Once his grubby little paws were filled to the brim, his blistering speed carried him out of the front of the casino. It didn't go according to plan, but he did manage to get the cash. Sly did feel bad about trying to dupe an innocent person. Niha was one of the nicest creatures he had crossed in the galaxy. He has taken advantage of people in the past, but no one who ever seemed so pure. Perhaps, if they crossed paths again in the future, Sly would repay the favor somehow. But in all reality most likely would not, truth be told he was just a no good raccoon. WC: 792 TWX: 2,007 Niha

Niha uneasily lowered her hands through the silence, glancing nervously over the people that surrounded her and Sly. She wondered if this is what it felt like to calm a situation down and win an argument? It didn't feel like she thought it would. The tension still hung thick in the air between them. She would have to think quickly to try to work towards a compromise that would benefit Sly and the Casino. " Okay so..." She says, breaking the silence first, " Now that we are all calm and collected. Maybe um...if you're short on the money, you could instead offer my friend here um...credit of some sort! For the casino. To be able to play more games or maybe eat at a buffet or something once for free!" Her features start to sink when she sees the steam practically start to hiss out of the manager's ears. He was hurling a lot of hurtful words her way, and she wasn't sure what she did to deserve it. " Sir." She interrupts, " I can assure you that I never lie intentionally, sir! A-And I don't think that I'm all that dumb either!" Niha glances down to the side at Sly with a worried expression. Her confidence was melting out of her body and figuratively pooling on the ground at her feet. Every spiked pitched and loud word spat her way makes her flinch and shrink smaller where she stood. What else did the raccoon fail to mention to her? She didn't want to be defending a cheater, but why would someone do something like that? She mutters aside to him questioningly, " Is this true Sly? Because if it is then...then that is wrong." She still wanted to believe that there had to be a reason for this! One that didn't paint the raccoon in such a poor light. " M...maybe it was just a misunderstanding." She stammers out in reason, hanging her head low and twisting her fingers together, " Those could have just been his personal cards. Maybe he was practicing to try to play better before he came here and just forgot about them!" It seemed like a believable enough explanation in her mind. " You don't know this raccoon! We should not be so quick to judge him so harshly! He..." She stops midsentence by the time Sly steps forward to defend her honor. Her eyes soften with a genuinely sad expression on hearing his betrayal. So, he did really lie to her. He just wanted to use her to steal back what he had stolen from others in the first place. Niha tries to hold her tongue while Sly addresses her, but it does little to stop the water from brimming up in the corners of her eyes. She tries to think of something to say to Sly, but words fail her. She just sheepishly ticks her head in a small nod before stumbling and falling backward from the aftershocks of the raccoon's display of his power. An arm is raised defensively and she looks around to double-check that everyone had run away in time. When the dust has cleared, Niha scrambles back onto her feet and flits in the air through the broken room to try to find a sign of Sly. " Sly?" She calls out worriedly, " Sly, come back! You don't have to do this you know! If...if you need the money for something, I could have given some to you!" The small frame of a girl hovers, waiting for a response only to be met with the same silence as before. Only this time, that thick choking tension was replaced by a creeping cold sensation of loneliness. Whoever Sly, if that even was his real name, was he was long gone now. She wouldn't be able to question him about whether he needed to steal for some secretly sweet ulterior motive such as having several hungry cubs to feed at home or needing to save up for medicinal treatment. No, what she was left with was the shameful reality. Some people just wanted to get more in this life through whatever means were necessary. Sometimes there were no sob-storied explanations or happy endings. The distant blaring of some old out-of-key sirens can be heard starting to blare as what little law enforcement there was on Space Vegas tried to converge to the scene. Most likely it was just a bunch of thugs that were paid protection money by the club owners. Niha nervously scanned the wreckage of the interior and flies out through the door again to flee the scene. Thankfully, no one was hurt so her medical attention would not be needed. She could have stayed to try to give the authorities her statement, but she chose not to. Part of her still pitied that shivering raccoon she found tossed aside in the alleyway, and even Niha wasn't naive enough to ignore that fingers would be pointed at her for trying to help him in the first place. Niha had gone a hundred years without getting in trouble with the law, and she didn't want that to change over this. She wasn't sure how much longer she even wanted to stay on this planet now. If this was what it had in store for her, Niha just wanted to get back on her ship and fly far away from it. What lay beneath the flashing lights and music that entranced her imagination was too grimy and dark for her tastes. WC: 914 | Total WC: 3,084 Sly
