An unnaturally handsome young man sat on a set of plastic chairs, tapping his foot impatiently. His head hurt, his body ached, and he felt sick. It had been a few days since his last drink, and he was feeling the repercussion. Raijin realized that all of the progress he had to make if he was to be anybody at all in such a massive, sprawling universe was exponentially more than what he had been making. The baby steps to power that he was taking where a waste of time. Just like all the partying. It had to stop. The past few months had been the most severe bender of his entire life, and he realized very quickly that there was nothing good to come from such an experience. Continuing would just leave him weak and vulnerable, and if he was to face Lute and Polaris ever again he had to be the opposite of that.
That's why he was sitting on cheap plastic chairs next to a hot-dog stand. Because he coveted ultimate power. Bizarrely enough, the demoness he had met and pledged himself to had a penchant for the strange processed food. Especially when it was covered in chili. Raijin had actually never had a chili dog before. This was going to be a new experience to him. Much like the new experience he was having in taking life, and his training, more seriously. Rai hoped that the shift in his attitude would be noticeable. His eyes had dark rings around them, and he looked stressed out. Reality had sunk in. There he sat, waiting patiently for Kuueru. Had she really gotten his message?
He thought back to a day ago, when he had reached out to her. It had taken him hours, and intensive concentration. That was even more challenging, considering he was detoxing from various substances that he had been filling his body with. Excess had been his lifestyle. Rai had learned his lesson. The reality was if he didn't begin training he would die at the hands of Lute. The Namekian had promised him a quick death if he couldn't prove his usefulness. Eventually, after hours of focus the youth had been able to send Kuueru a message, along with a psychic imprint of the location to meet him.
“If you're hearing this, it means my spell was a success. I'm reaching out to you... Because I need your help. No, I'm not drunk. Just come meet me, I can explain. I'll buy you some food!~”
He had known that last part would probably be the selling point for the half-blood Demoness. That was why he sat here, musing over how exactly he would explain himself to the girl. Should he just explain what he had been going through? Why he kept himself so intoxicated? Or, should he be more secretive, and keep everything closer to his chest. If he revealed such an inherit weakness... Would she take advantage of him?
Raijin gulped at the notion. She was powerful. Very powerful. Perhaps even more so now than the last time he had seen her. He glanced around at the metropolitan cityscape he had arrived in. Satan City was a place he hadn't frequented very often. The bars sucked, the people were loud, and there was not much in terms of crime that he could see. Overall, very boring. A bunch of wanna-be martial artists, boxers, wrestlers... Not even many who could manipulate ki. Yes, this place was a good place for a nonchalant meeting between the two.
He wondered when she would be arriving, glancing around nervously. Shit, did he really have to be honest with her?

Whatever Kuueru did in her spare time was not some fruitless acts. She was strong--part of that was an inherent strength that all demon’s possessed. However, there was another side to her abilities---her perseverance and diligence in training and improving. It was an odd formula, and she could admit that not everyone had the same tools in their possession as her. Still, she made sure to try and bring out the best in her allies, so that they didn’t fall to failure or weakness and get decimated in this dog eat dog realm.
Deep within Hollow’s confined the woman spent her time skirmishing with the Aetherguard that hadn’t fled after Lute’s takeover. They were all strong magic users, even the witch Kouzi was a former member of the elite team. A bright amethyst beam flew past her head as the message came through. She jolted, taking a few jumps back before notioning to the men and women of all arrays to take a break.
That’s when she heard him. Her eyes fell shut as she marked the mental image he had provided. On Earth? She triangulated his position, and noted the time and date. Her last encounter with Raijin had went sour. The demoness truly felt apologetic for her brash behavior, but perhaps that was the goodness in her shinjin side speaking.
---------------------------------------------------
A few days later…
The woman merely popped into view before the man upon his stacked plastic chairs. It didn’t seem efficient, but she shot him a friendly wave nonetheless.
“Raijin, hello,” Kuueru mumbled before taking a few steps towards the halfling man. Her mind was running wild with why he called her here, especially after their last awkward encounter. Yet, he promised food as a sort of bait to bring her here. While that sounded nice---Raijin was also one of the few she considered a friend. Her lavender eyes locked onto his tired sullen face, it seemed he had been missing sleep.
“You look like shit...I mean,” Kuueru paused, realizing how rude it may have came across. Earnestly concern panged her voice, “Not like ugly---Just rough.”
The woman took a few more steps before leaning down to stare at the man at point blank range. She was promised food, yet the only thing around wa--.
“Whoa, are these….” Kuueru perked up and looked over at the crude hot dog stand. Everything about it lured her in, yet, she contained herself long enough to see why the man had beckoned her here.
“A-Anyhow, what’s up? Are you here to be made at me for last time? Because---I...I’m sorry.”
Kuueru fessed up an awkward apology as her gaze hit the concrete below. She didn’t want to say anything more, less, or throw around excuses. She only hoped that she wasn’t here to get hurled with insults or punched in the jaw. At least, she didn’t think Raijin would hurt her---not yet at least. Tora WC: 486

Kuueru jolted Raijin from his dazed state, materializing from thin air as per usual. She greeted him, and commented on his appearance, oddly apologetic. It wasn't befitting her, but it was a trait he admired in her. It was humanizing. She seemed actually concerned for his well-being. Kuu proceeded to apologize for her behavior, which befuddled the Shinjin. The frazzled youth rose to his feet, smiling at her and taking her in a warm hug, a symbol of friendship. If she looked in his eyes, despite his tired state, he would look oddly... Motivated. Something was driving him. There was a part of himself he intended to master. If he was going to, he would need her help.
“Listen, Kuu...” he said, approaching the stand. He handed the man a big sum of zenni, far too much for a single person. “First off, have whatever you want, however many... I'm not one to stop a person from indulging.” With that, he grabbed himself a plain hot-dog, put some mustard and relish on it and sat down. The hot-dog man seemed puzzled by Raijin's behavior, unsure why he had put such an incredible down payment on... Well, weiners. After Kuueru gathered up whatever she wanted to eat, Rai would start eating his own food, speaking only after he finished eating.
“So... This is hard to even say. First off, don't worry. I hold you in the highest regard. I don't want you to think I'd ever think poorly of you, we're not... We don't have to be kind all the time.” the youth's gaze seemed really distracted. Frustrated, even. “Listen. I have been, to put it bluntly, I've been fucking up nonstop for the past... well, let's just say for a long time. I went off the deep end. Too much partying, too much of everything. See, I'm struggling right now- and don't stop eating- to get myself together. I feel like I'm lost. I've never met a Shinjin, only person I know with my race's blood flowing through their veins is you. I've never met a Makaioshin. I don't really know myself, or my past. The little I recall was unpleasant. You're the only tangible link I have to the Other World. And...”
Rai realized she might get the wrong idea with this rant. Like he was going to admit his feelings again, or something. He feared upsetting her. More than that, he feared miscommunication. The youth leaned back even further in his chair, sighing as his hair fell messily into his eyes. “Kuu. I need you to help me, or Lute's going to kill me the next time I see him. If not him, then Polaris will do it. I'm... Pathetic. I struggle with the twisted influence that my father left me. Which brings me to my main point...”
The youth leaned back forward, holding his hair back as he did. Raijin felt like a young boy when he asked this question, remembering how much older the Demoness was. He hoped she wouldn't scoff at him when he asked the question, the inquiry leaving him feeling vulnerable and scared.
“Can you help me find my father? I don't know much, if anything about him... I don't know where else to turn. But, if I can't get these urges under control I'm going to fall apart.”

Her eyes widened as the halfling jumped to his feet. She was half worried that she had scared him with her sudden entrance. Perhaps she needed to be more cautious before randomly popping up and surprising others. A toothy smile peered through as he approached her. However, what happened next was odd---and embrace.
She often saw mortals engaged in the action of affection, yet---Kuueru had never been hugged. She stood there awkwardly. For a moment she wasn’t sure if he was going to attack her or not---but once she realized she oddly patted the man on the back a few times before pulling away from the embrace. She tried to be understanding--however, coming from no affection at all---to this...was tremendously different.
The tone of the conversation shifted a bit as the man went ahead and pre-paid for her a hotdog. Her lavender eyes lit up with excitement as she pranced over to the counter cautiously. The woman knew exactly what she wanted, and wasn’t afraid to order two!
“Yes, I want two chili cheese dogs with onions ketchup and mustard!” Her voice seemed to lift as the worker waddled off to construct the handheld indulgence for the woman. She greedily took a bun each hand and took turns taking bites from each. It didn’t take her long to scarf both of the dogs down, chili smeared across her cheeks as she sat there satisfied for the time being. However, if this conversation was going to be long, she may be tempted to get another.
“Fucking up? Partying is all good fun eh?” Kuueru piped down as the man continued to search his mind for the words to say, or how to phrase it. It was a rant, but one that seemed like a desperate cry for help. Her face shifted to worry as she looked at Raijin, she wished he would just come out and say it.
“Lutes going to kill you?!” Kuueru chuckled a bit at the thought. She also wondered what provoked such a thing. Then, he mentioned Polaris as well. While the emperor was strong headed, he wouldn’t be dumb enough to kill off a potential ally. She wondered what scare tactics the two strong men had implanted in Raijin’s head. Still, she continued to listen to him while also leaning back into the questionably stable plastic chair.
“Your….father? The Shinjin?” Kuueru thought about it. Lute always barked about wanting to kill one, yet---how do you even track down or find something so divine? Her mind ran over scenarios in which she could aid Raijin. At the most she could get him to Otherworld. But then what? If Raijin didn’t know much about the man, why would she? Or---how would they find out?
“That’s great and all bud. But---how am I supposed to help find him when you can’t even do that. I mean, you can teleport too now…”
The woman glanced towards the busy sidewalks. It was Winter-time, the chill of the air stung at her nose and cheeks. People all ran down the streets seeming to shop and prepare for the holidays and upcoming get togethers. Kuueru often wondered what mortals found so charming about pointless holidays.
“Are you worried he will not want to hug ya? Would he try to hurt you? Do you know his name?” Question after question weren’t meant to be rude. She was just curious as to what they had to move on. Without a smidgen of information they may run into some issues. Tora WC: 586 | 1072

Rai sighed. Kuueru seemed at first to not understand him. Not only was she unaware of Lute's promise to kill him if he didn't get stronger, she also claimed to be totally unable to help him. Personally, Raijin couldn't believe that. The youth truly put the Demoness on a pedestal in terms of skill. Although, he had yet to truly see her perform any magical action. Rai imagined the potency of her lineage to factor into her capabilities. He exhaled, the air having chilled enough to make his breath visible. She began asking him questions, but Raijin knew he didn't have much to go on. In fact, the only reason he even know of his lineage, truly was...
Rai cursed his bad luck. Why was he going to have to show her that thing? God, he didn't even like to use it. Even if it was powerful. “Listen, for what you're about to see... I didn't ask for this thing, I stumbled on it. Just trust me. I don't know if my Father would try to hurt me. In fact, all I know about him is he's a bastard. Well, I guess I'm the bastard, but, uh... Well, you get my point.”
The half-blood looked around, almost nervously. Reaching into his coat, he withdrew a strange, ornate book. It looked almost leather- not pleather, either. Like... Flesh. Actually, Rai couldn't help but notice it had gotten a little more plump recently. Something had been feeding it. The youth wasn't sure what, because he had a significant lack of anything valuable. Frustrated, he hit the book against the table, hoping to startle it to life.
A singular, ominous eye opened in the center of the book. It's eye narrowed when it saw Raijin, but quickly began to search the area. Settling on Kuueru, the book began to purr. It sounded very odd, and the half-breed hoped that she hadn't heard it. The Shinjin hit the strange book off the table again, cursing at it. The book didn't hesitate to curse back.
“You pointy eared son of a whore!” the book hissed, it's pages flapping oddly to mimic the movement of a mouth. Rai had seen the strange creature eat before. It had a thing for gold, jewels... Things of the sort. Valuables. Lately, Raijin suspected that he had found this book for a reason. The youth couldn't believe that such a random piece of potent magic would have fallen into his possession for no reason. It had been a great font of knowledge in the past, and Rai pictured it helping him even now. Still, he couldn't help but admit how annoying the damned thing was, always talking and demanding things from him.
The strange eye kept staring at Kuueru, before speaking again:
“Oh, this time you brought someone interesting along!~ So, what can I do for you this time? I assume you've got some pitiful question below my immense level of knowledge, as per usual. You know the deal! Cough up some tasty treasure!”
Rai growled at the book, covering its' eye much to the books' protests. This was his plan? God, he was going to look so stupid. Kuueru hung out with Lute and Polaris, and Raijin was sitting here eating hot dogs getting made fun of by his own spell-book. This wasn't good for his image.
“Listen, listen. Kuu. Do you have anything valuable on you? I can get us some more information, but he's gonna need to eat something first...”

Her arms folded over her chest idly as she listened to the man. Her hot dogs were long past gone, and happily nestled in her stomach. She leaned back into the plastic chair and tried to get comfortable after the overindulgence. However, something still seemed to be on Raijin’s mind. Why was he so eager to find some man who seemed to care less if he was dead or gone? Such a strange thing.
“Oh? I mean, I’m sure whatever you have to show me isn’t that odd,” Kuueru retorted as Raijin warned her of something he had stumbled upon in his travels. She awaited curiously, before he dug through his coat. From it a grimoire of sorts was hiding. The halfling tossed the overly plump book upon the table in front of them and Kuueru couldn’t help but marvel at it. She had seen many books in her past, especially those of the magic variety--but this one, had an eye?
A weird purring emitted from the thing before it was forced from the table.
“Eh, what…” Kuueru mumbled as the man and the book insulted one another. It seemed that their relationship was strained at best. If you could even muster a relationship with a book.
While the book proclaimed to know the answer to many a question, it demanded a payment in return. Treasure? Kuueru seemed to chuckle at the thought of a treasure eating book, yet here it was in front of her. The woman leaned forward to get a better look at the ominous eye that protruded from the cover. Hell, she wasn’t even sure what Raijin intended to ask the book other than, where is my father, or---how the pair could find the elusive shinjin.
“What? This book is some sort of hustler? Let me guess, you feed it too? You are that dense?” Kuueru had encountered many a cunning and magical being the in the Demon Realm. In fact, most of the creatures that existed there had the same cunning attitude. Alas, Kuueru could perhaps magically manifest something of value for the beast of a book to consume, but she was wary of just how much it could tell.
She held out a palm, a cracking bit of dark energy swirled over her hand, and from it dozens of precious gems and gold nuggets fell into her grasp. Yet, she didn’t feed them to the book just yet. She marveled at the shiny gems before handing them carefully to Raijin for his use. She wanted no part in a deal with some magics she knew nothing of.
“There. Use it as you wish, if you want to shake this magic eight ball around so be it,” Kuueru eyed the book, whom currently had its ‘eye’ blinded by the hand of Raijin.
“You should make more friends though. Is this your diary?” She cracked a bit of a joke to lighten the mood. Tora WC: 488 | 1560

Kuueru seemed as though she was not taken aback by the speaking book. However, she did seem wary of it. And reasonably so. She probably regretted thinking that the book wasn't that odd. "You're right. It is a bit of a hustler, isn't it? Besides, we both know how dense I can be." In fact, as Rai reflected it had probably spent more of his money than he had. Damned thing. Her suspicions did make the half-breed question the motives of the book. In fact, now he had begun to question its' origins even further. Rai had never been too inquisitive. He was seventeen years old- hardly prepared to unravel dark secrets from an ancient grimoire. Rai did feed it without really knowing what it was all about, besides that it was called 'The Book of Avarice.' The thing about books that the youthfully naive Shinjin had failed to recall is that every book had an author. Who exactly had created this malformed font of knowledge?
Kuueru materialized a small treasure trove in her lap with minimal effort. Even Rai, whose innate magical power was impressive, found himself struggling with such dense and realistic jewels. However, he had never once thought of using that skill to solve his whole 'something of value' problem. Had he just figured out another facet of the book? Raijin grinned, glad he had called her into the fold. Whether she knew it or not, lately he had been thinking so much it was like he couldn't think. Stress is a real thing when you think two of the most powerful beings in the galaxy are going to kill you if you don't get stronger, and fast.
The book had been oddly silent, albeit salivating slightly. Which was strange, watching a book drool. It stuck to Raijin's robes, and he had to fight back the urge to burn it with molten plasma, tossing it to the ground and never looking back. No, in fact his eye seemed to glimmer with a similar gleam to the one the eye had when he removed his hand from blocking it's eye. One of hunger. The half-blood yearned to prove himself capable. He was jarred from his state of focus by Kuueru's teasing, him cracking a genuine smile for the first time in days. A wash of relief flooded him as he accepted the jewels from his fellow hybrid, the Demoness seeming hesitant to partake herself in the transaction. Rai didn't blame her.
"I don't need friends, I have you." he retorted, before returning his attention to the living grimoire. It looked at him and blinked, still silent. Raijin questioned this- did it perhaps sense the power of his companion? Or did it recognize something in the halfling?
"Alright, you damned thing. Open wide."
With that, Rai dumped the jewels and precious gems down the creatures bizarre gullet. It crunched and slurped and ground the metals down, before it dissappeared into the book. It snickered with delight, cooing and purring again.
"Mmm, this one has a special quality to her essence, doesn't she? Rai, you're boring compared to her! My, my!~ What is it you two need, hm? You wouldn't just feed me to be generous, now would you? Or perhaps you wanted me to meet your girlfr-" Rai shoved his fist into the book's mouth. Or, er, pages. Whatever. He wasn't about to let this book embarass him more than he already had. Besides.
He didn't want Kuueru to get mad and kill him.
Either way, it was time for him to finally focus on doing something productive. This damned thing had eaten a lot of valuables. Rai hoped for a better answer than the last time he had tried anything like this.
"Before, you told me of my father. I want to know more. More importantly? I want to know -where-."
The book was silent again. The purring stopped. A few moments went by, then it spoke. Slowly, directly. Very patronizing, in a way. Rai felt frustrated the whole time.
"You ask me something I just can't help you with. Not at this time. Especially not where we are. You're... Listen, you gave me more than enough to eat this time. That energy was of a good quality. Take me somewhere with a lot of ambient, malicious energy. Real demonic. Give me some time, and I can charge up enough magic to give you the proper ritual to find him."
Rai felt defeated, turning to Kuueru. Hopefully she had a better idea than he did on where they could find that much magical energy just... in the air.
"Any ideas?" (772 words)

“A hustler eh---A con man...woman...whatever the hell it is,” Kuueru mumbled towards the book as Rai spoke. She was curious of it’s origins, but wouldn’t delve into the specifics of that right now. Whatever informations Raijin wanted to extrapolate from the book was the current task at hand. She could ask more questions later, albeit for a price.
After feeding the gaping maw of the book with the treasure she provided, Kuueru carefully eyed the pages that flapped back and forth while greedily devouring her gift. It was almost like watching an overweight person gorge themselves at an all you can eat buffet. She felt her stomach turn a bit just watching the thing eat. Where did the jewels even go? Did this thing have a stomach? Her mind was bewildered, but magic was an odd thing and she of all people knew that.
Though her teasing only seemed to bring a smile to Raijin’s face, she couldn’t help but be a bit jarred by his next comment.
“I don’t need friends, I have you.”
Kuueru didn’t consider herself the best of companions. In fact, she often wondered why the halfling was constantly seeking her out. She had assumed that it was because she was useful to the man and he only beckoned when he needed something. But this comment threw the demoness for a loop. Did he truly consider her that good of a friend? Should she have felt the same way? Emotions and feelings were tough for the woman to pinpoint, even those that belonged to herself.
She sat there quietly, her gaze still fixated on the book as it crunched down the remainder of the meal. Hell, he looked more obnoxious than the woman did earlier with her double dose of chili dogs. Speaking of, maybe she should grab another for the road? No, no. The mortal realm had been testing her waistline already, it was better for her to stay away from the gluttony deeply seeded within her.
Kuueru perked up as the book spoke once more. It described her as ‘special’. The woman felt her cheeks fluster from the words it tossed towards Raijin. It teased him like and older brother would, even going as far to begin calling her his girlfriend. However, that would be much too illegal considering the lad was a young seventeen, and she was----well….much older than that.
Raijin was clearly flustered. That only made the woman chuckled under her breath.
He went on to ask his question. Where was his father? The book seemed to contemplate the thought for a moment, but then---it revealed it couldn’t help. Another request followed and Raijin’s face seemed to sink as he looked towards the woman for any help. She knew just the place, a place she had intended to take Raijin for a while. However, she was wary of how the environment would affect a pure shinjin, hell---people who hadn’t tangled themselves in demonic magic at all seemed to have negative and adverse effects.
“Yeah I know a place. Hollow, I’m sure you’ve heard me mention it in the past. I only hope you...last there,” She spoke ominously. Not to scare the boy, but because she was genuinely worried that something bad may happen to him. Quickly she stood from her chair and turned to face the man and his book with a nod.
“We leave at once. Prepare your stomach!” Kuueru said with a grin. She had teleported the halfling in the past, but not to this extent or distance. With that she placed a hand upon the man’s shoulder and they were off.
Through the vortex of vomit-inducing colors and chorus of voices they hurled. It was a few minutes of a wait, yet---like always on the outside the teleportation was instantaneous. However, what environment loomed on the other side was heavy.
Though vibrantly decorated with lavish parks, ornate buildings, and noble looking Xenos….the air was putrid with dark and demonic energy. Hollow was almost like a direct link to the Demon Realm, hell, if Kuueru could say it may have been worse than the energy there. Even her body took a moment to adjust to the energy that seeped into her bones. She felt invigorated, and at home. However, her wary gaze shot to Raijin to make sure he was okay. They were on the ground right outside of the burnt and blackened tower that Lute and she had conquered earlier.
It seemed out of place amongst the rest of the immaculate city, yet Lute felt at home upon the throne of such an abomination.
“Raijin, how do you feel? T..This is Hollow. There should be plenty of energy here for the book.” Tora WC; 789 | 2349
