Indeed Meiku would be just fine, allowed to approach the Emperor and give him a hug, for all she had side, every ounce of it had been forgotten. He had a witty quip he was going to produce, then she made him feel. "You're a good man," the words echoed in his mind. How long had it been since someone had flat out said such a sentence to him? It caused many memories to well up in his mind, things he had almost forgotten, his mother, father, his siblings--he had two brothers and a sister. They had all been taken as well, "You're a good boy Caram," that's what he could remember one of his older brothers saying to him. Even after he had escaped and gone to Space Vegas, indulging in the carnal delight of the planet, the sycophants and prostitutes had taken his money and made him physically feel something, no one had made Cam feel truly good, the warm fuzzy feeling inside his chest for a long time. He hesitated for a moment before hugging Meiku back, "Thank you," he said simply, holding their embrace for a moment until Meiku broke away. He offered a smile, "Alright, yeah you probably don't want me dogging you anymore. Go, have a fun night. You've more than earned it," he looked up at the Kabochan sky, it was twilight--about as close to night as it usually got, they had maybe two or three true nights where the stars could be seen on the planet and not for very long, but it appeared that Meiku was going to see one.
"Looks like it's going to get dark for once," Cam murmured, "You'll see the constellations from our planet. Maybe sometime I can tell you about them, that or you could go learn yourself."
Cam watched as Meiku took her leave, looking back towards the motorcade he moved to step into his vehicle, the rest of Meiku's staff dropped off, it was a a quiet ride in the back seat of the hover car he was in back to the palace. Meiku was a hero, and Cam, it seemed, for better or worse, had become one, at least in Meiku's eyes.
The Kabochan wouldn't stop smiling until he fell asleep that night. For once, rest coming easily and without any concern, his soul as full as his body was, all because of a kind word and some companionship, hope, for the first time in a long time, that he could atone for his crimes.
