CHARACTER BIO
NAME: Turk (also: Subject Nine Kilo)
RACE: Bio-Android
AGE: 29
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5'9" (1.75 m) / 170 lbs (77.1 kg)
APPEARANCE: Built powerfully, while not overly tall, he has the frame of a hero from old stories. His hair is a light, sandy brown that can turn almost blonde in the sun and chocolate in darkness. A small strip of his hair has gone shock white near his forehead as a result of the stress his body underwent while going through the experiments of Sturgeon. His eyes are a steely blue-gray that tend to hide whatever emotions he's feeling or thoughts running through his head. His face and upper body still bear some scars from his training, as well as the wounds that nearly killed him.
When not fighting, he tends to prefer simple and utilitarian clothing as opposed to his armor. When utilizing his ki his aura is a bright, colorless glow and his blasts tend to be a pale blue.
MOTIVATIONS: Turk is motivated by three dynamically different forces in his mind. One being that he has always wanted to protect people, which was part of his reasoning for beginning his martial arts training and attempting to join the Guard. The second drive is that he enjoys pushing himself, finding his limits and driving past them into new areas of ability. The third and most recent motivation is pure vengeance against the Galactic Empire for the destruction of Central City and the loss of so much innocent life.
QUIRKS: While he doesn't make friends quickly or really enjoy meeting new people, he takes efforts to be polite and charming when must interact. After getting to know someone, he usually displays an ironic sense of humor and is intensely loyal to those who have gotten close to him.
He enjoys testing himself against stronger opponents and gaining strength, he absolutely despises people who abuse their strength against weaker people. He'd always had a particular dislike of bullies that was only enhanced to almost zealous levels by the events of Central City.
Something that he hasn't spoken to anyone about is the sudden urges of violence and anger he's felt when thinking back on the attack. He's not sure if it's a side effect to any changes his brain might have undergone from the experiments or a new darker aspect gained from his near-death experience and complete weakness in comparison to the things he faced.
While he doesn't often show it, Turk is rather intelligent and capable of learning things quickly. He is a self-taught handyman who is constantly tinkering with any number of devices, while also being very knowledgeable in a variety of history subjects. He is also an adept pianist, a skill he inherited from his mother.
BONDS: Beryl & Garnet
His mother and sister, respectively. The first place he went after awakening from his stasis was home and let them know that he survived. After an abbreviated period of mourning over the loss of his father, they argued over him heading out to challenge the same type of people that nearly killed him before. Despite the tension between the family at his exit, he still cares for them a great
Doctor Sturgeon
The man whose research and efforts saved his life, a renowned biological engineer and noted transhumanist who worked at Capsule Corp for several decades. Sturgeon is also the man who crafted Turk's custom battle armor and helped him come to terms with his new abilities. While still wary of the scientist, he owes the man his life and is very grateful for the chance to become powerful enough to fulfill his mission.
"The Bronze Blitz" Pachara
A famous fighter who very nearly won the World Martial Arts Tournament four times, he was renowned for his tenacity and strong fighting style. He was also the first real trainer that Turk ever had and is responsible for teaching him the style of martial arts he uses. Pachara currently runs a gym for prizefighters in Satan City, having lost his more famous gym when Central City was attacked.
BACKSTORY: Born to Tanzan, a former criminal-turned mediocre prizefighter-turned construction worker, he was raised on stories about the old heroes of Earth and great fighters from the World Martial Arts tournament. His mother worked in the city as a music teacher and his sister was born the year before him, so it meant that he practically got away with murder at home. While he inherited his father's build and athletic ability, he inherited his mother's looks and quiet patience. In school, he did well enough without having to try to hard and was on the baseball team for several years. After conflict with a number of boys on the team, his father signed him up to train in the gym of the famous fighter Pachara.
Due to Turk's natural talent, the "Bronze Blitz" took an interest in the young man and often worked with him privately to further his combat abilities. After several years of training and a brief stint in university, he decided to join the King's Guard in Central City. His father's hard work ethic had imprinted on the young man and his mother's caregiver nature inspired him to put his skills to use in helping people. He did well on the exams and was scoring near the top of his class in the physical tests when Lord Glacio and his elites appeared. Shirking his duties, the first thing he ran to find was his visiting father and make sure the man was safe. Turk found him pinned by some debris and was able to free his father with monumental effort, then he took to trying to get people to safety while dragging his father to what he thought might be a decent shelter.
The moments before and after his awakening are blurry, Turk remembers being under a bridge and hauling his father along away from the battle. The next he remembers being shoved into a maintenance hatch as the roar going on around him deafened him, the next he was standing in a brightly lit lab with a great deal of the equipment ruined around him. The terrified staff begging him to calm down before Doctor Sturgeon rushed in, explaining everything to him. He had been found days after the attack, in a a half-collapsed maintenance tunnel and with seventy percent of his body damaged beyond repair--yet miraculously clinging to life. Sturgeon had used a mixture of gene therapy, nanomachines, and bio-synthetic augmentations to rebuild the young man into something more than he was before. He was 'the perfect alignment of man and machine'. He also learned that he had been in stasis for three years while his body and mind adapted to the radical changes, being the first and only successful test subject of the process.
After spending some time in the Capsule Corp facility, getting used to his new abilities and undergoing a few more exams, he returned home. A tearful reunion was had with his mother and sister, as they explained that his father had been found near the maintenance hatch and it was theorized he had used the last of his strength to push his son inside as the bridge collapsed. It was at that moment he decided to use his second chance at life to become the strongest fighter he could, so that no one would have to suffer like all the innocent people in Central City did.
CALL TO ACTION: After attempting to join the King's Guard and being present at the destruction of Central City, he realized how far he had to go to be able to actually protect people from the worst villains. Never wanting to feel that powerless again, he has set him himself on a path to unlocking new power and fighting skills in order to protect those weaker than himself. (And gain his revenge on those responsible for his father's death).
