CHARACTER BIO
NAME. Chow
RACE. Earthling
AGE. 18
GENDER. Male
HEIGHT/WEIGHT. 5’2 / Healthy
APPEARANCE.
MOTIVATIONS.
Chow is a young man who does not, at first glance, seem to be very motivated at all. Congenitally lazy, he doesn’t train often, doesn’t have much drive, and seems perfectly content to bum around from place to place scrounging his meals where he can.
This in fact hides a deep-seated hatred of bullies. Chow’s village was obliterated during a struggle between two powerful ki-using fighters; one stray energy blast and the entire place was wiped off the map. He has never forgotten the horror of that instant, and he is determined to ensure that nothing like that happens again whilst he has the strength to prevent it.
Chow is a nominal student of the New Crane School. Whilst he has taken to the teachings of his Master – Mein – with more natural aptitude than could have been reasonably expected, he is more interested in the skills and techniques than the ethos of public service and dedication.
QUIRKS.
Chow is a naturally restless soul and dislikes spending long amounts of time in any one place – though he has never actually been off Earth and he’s in no rush to do so, because he has a terrible fear of space ships (those things are dangerous!)
He enjoys long walks, sleeping, and good food – but he’s usually happy to make do with whatever he can make himself. He is not a talented cook.
BONDS.
Chow is haunted by the ghosts of his family and friends. Weld Village was a small place, most people on Earth had never even heard of it, and its destruction was attributed to a natural disaster. Chow knows the truth, though; he saw the flash of energy and he is certain that it was a malevolent act.
Chow doesn’t know who or what was responsible, and he is not literally haunted. He tries not to think about it, because he has no way of ever truly finding out who was responsible. All he can do is move forward, and try to make sure that nothing like it ever happens again.
As a student of the New Crane School, Chow has been given to the tutelage of Master Mein, an endlessly patient old man who has helped to guide Chow in the martial arts. His Master is his family now; as are his fellow students, though he often has a difficult time relating to their energetic and sincere dedication to public service.
BACKSTORY.
The first few years of Chow’s life were unremarkable. He was a normal teenager, if you ignored the fact that he has three eyes. As one of the descendants of the legendary three-eyed people, this wasn’t a particularly noteworthy thing in his village. There were many people with three eyes, it was just a matter of course; when the person across the way might also be a giant bear, this isn’t such a strange thing, you know?
Chow’s life changed when his village was obliterated in a battle between two rival ki users. He was out hunting at the time, and only saw the bright flash of light. When he returned to the village, he found that it was a smoking crater. His friends, his family, everyone he ever knew, they were all taken from him in an instant.
It was a trauma that broke the boy for quite some time. Until, in fact, Master Mein of the New Crane School was passing through the region and realised that the sleepy village he’d flown over several times was no longer there. He found the boy amongst the wreckage and, after earning his trust, told him his suspicions – that this had been caused by martial artists, the kind that Mein was sworn to defend against.
Chow was angry at first, accusing Mein of failing in his duty, and Mein could not disagree. He offered to take the boy under his wing – the Three-Eyed People’s descendants had always been particularly sought-after in the School after all – and Chow reluctantly agreed, believing that it would be a good way for him to seek revenge on the people who destroyed his village.
That was eight years ago, and whilst the trauma still keeps him up at night, he is no longer so determined to seek vengeance. Instead, he has made peace with the fact that he may never know who caused him such pain – but he can stand against it happening again in the future.
CALL TO ACTION.
As part of his training, Master Mein has suggested that Chow find other strong fighters and test himself against them, as he still has a lot to learn. Chow is only engaging with this in a half-hearted manner, but his master’s patience is not limitless.
