Somewhere in the middle of an unforgiving sea sat a strangely shaped island. Resembling a drill half-buried into the Earth, the massive pillar held an aura of menace. Guard boats circled the man-made island like hungry sharks. Searchlights swept the murky waters. Armed soldiers marched tirelessly around the perimeter. Only a fool would mistake this for a pleasant place to visit. Yet people who came to stay only left one way... Perhaps this maximum security prison had a name, something nice to write on official documents, but for its residents it would always be called Hell. Seven levels. Guards like demons. And no hope.
On the highest level, inside an office far too tidy and posh for the grim building, a wrinkled hand reached for the intercom. A small monitor flickered to life. "Cell block 7, status report. How is our newest arrival faring?" The dry and raspy voice scratched the small microphone. "Still screaming, sir." The response was prompt and sharp. It earned a vaguely disgruntled hum. "Any signs of fatigue?" Silence. Brief hesitation. "No sir. It’s almost like... this thing doesn’t need to eat or sleep..." A bony finger wagged at the fearful suggestion. "Nonsense. Administer another round of shocks until it faints or dies. All creatures have their limit. Find that limit." With a light buzz, the monitor returned to black.
Mere moments after the cruel command had been given, a violent rumble shook the entire facility. "Cell block 7, report! What the devil was that?" On the screen, a shaky soldier stumbled closer to answer. "Sir! The creature has escaped the containment pod!" As the foundations shook again, the pristine authority started showing cracks. "What?! How?! The siphoners were supposed to keep it powerless!" Another deathly silent pause. The clump of fear was hard to swallow. "T-they broke, sir. It... overloaded them. And now it’s rampaging within the walls." That was the last straw. The trembling fist slammed against an enormous red button. Shrill alarms went off. "Attention all units! Red alert! Activate the turrets! Lock all blast doors! Grab your weapons and hold your posts! Do not let that creature leave the building no matter what!" But what the raspy voice left out was a mutter for the Lord to have mercy.
Red pinpricks burned in the dark. Pink ki coalesced into a crackling orb before getting violently flung at an imposing door. A bright flash drew the silhouette of a small girl against the walls. Out... She wanted out... Now! More blasts pelted the door, the only promise of escape, yet it wouldn’t budge. Desperation kept boiling in her veins. Another deep breath filled her lungs. A senseless scream echoed in the chamber. Its resonance made the very air waver and crack. Immense energy poured forth from her body. Glimmering sparks of magic crawled along her skin. Her only wish was to flee. To where, it didn’t matter. Anywhere but here!
And sometimes... Wishes did get granted...
When the turrets came online, their operators were in for a baffling sight. Targeting error. No targets found. Peering through the cameras confirmed as much. The prisoner had vanished. But not without a trace... A strange, swirling portal hung in the air. It was as if something had grabbed the very air and torn a rift in it. How was that possible? And where did it lead? Before the jailers could reach the portal to search for answers, it swirled shut. With a light ripple, the air returned to normal. Not even a trace of ki was left behind. One thing was certain, however. Majin Zam had escaped. Words: 606 ((Using reagents to open a portal and visit the Other World! Grassy fields and hills stretched as far as eye could see. Sparkling streams and leafy trees decorated the green scene. A closer glance revealed a number of colorful figures. Some strolled along paved paths, others sat legs crossed under the trees. Mohawks seemed to be in style here, along with gem earrings and baggy pants. Well, maybe mortals weren’t meant to understand the fashion tastes of the divine. After all, rare was the mortal who would ever meet a Shinjin face to face. Their duty was to observe, not to interfere. Thus they stayed in their sacred realm, out of reach and away from worldly matters. But sometimes... The worldly matters came to them.
Suddenly the serenity was disrupted by a strange tearing sound. The very air was forced apart like a struggling curtain. Murky darkness swirled within the forming portal. Red eyes gleamed. An ear-splitting scream echoed. Something forced itself through! ...Aaand tumbled face first onto the grass. The small, girlish creature sat up and rubbed her nose. Hm, this place... seemed nice... For a brief moment, the locals could only stare at the pink intruder and said intruder stared back. Finally someone managed to stammer the obvious. "M-m-m-majin... It’s a Majin..." The girl nodded excitedly. "Yup yup, Zam is a Majin, is what Zam is!" Her cheery declaration bounced across the awkward silence.
Cue the panic.
Half of the onlookers ran, flew or teleported away screaming. They took it as their noble task to warn everyone. Especially the people on the other side of the planet. Yes, that sounded like a wonderful idea right about now. The divines had a good memory, you see. From their point of view, the previous Majin incident happened all too recently. They needed to gather the strongest elders and seal away that monster. Preferably for eternity
However, braver souls remained behind to face the threat. One Shinjin in particular stepped in front of the intruder. If judged by his lean features alone, he may have seemed a bit young. But make no mistake. He was several thousand years old, experienced enough to face this threat. "Halt, monster! You will not defile this sacred world again! I, Shun, shall send you back from whence you came!" He took a stance passed down in secret scrolls for untold ages. Feet apart. Hands at ready. Steady breaths... The little Majin, meanwhile, cocked her head at the difficult words. "Uhhh...?" Before she could ask, a heavy palm strike coated in ki sent her stumbling backwards.
Now that she did understand...
Approximately two seconds later it was the brave Shun who was sent flying. He caught himself though, deftly flipping back onto his feet. A trickle of blood dripped from his bashed nose. More of a blow to the pride than body really. Zam glared at him with those eerie red eyes. "I’m not going back." Whistles of steam ruffled her hair as she furiously shook her head. "Never ever!" Fueled by untold fear, her rising power threatened to overwhelm the young Shinjin. He made the mistake of blinking... And got a stretching kick to the gut. He barely managed to raise his hands to defend as the girl closed the distance. Punch after punch she kept hammering the foe. Even through his guard each impact shook him to the core.
Cornered, the defender gathered his courage and let out something akin to a war cry. "Kaioken!" His aura exploded into a crimson blaze. The Majin’s eyes widened. "Kaiowhat-?" The answer was a fist to the face. Quickly the tables turned. Shun unleashed a calculated assault, each carrying far more power than his starting strike. Yet Zam refused to give up, tanking the hits and swinging wildly back in kind. A fierce exchange of blows followed. Two blazing comets zipped above the hills, twirling around each other in a dizzying dance.
Finally the violent choreography brought the fighters back to the ground. Open palms were lifted and aimed. Two orbs of energy started growing. Violet against pink. Just before the two could blast each other -and about an acre of the surrounding land- sky high, a thundering voice came like a hammer between them. "Stop it! Both of you!" As if from nowhere, a broad, bearded Shinjin appeared to to tower above them. The child squeaked. "I-I’m sorry!" Meekly she lowered her head. Nervously her fingers twiddled together. The overwhelming energy faded into the breeze. Something about the commanding tone felt familiar. It was the kind of elder authority she had faced whenever she got into trouble at home...
Shun was quick to capitalize on the distraction. His Kaioken blaze grew as he moved in for the kill. Yet at the last second the elder Shinjin snatched the boy by the wrist. Angry that the command had been ignored, he yanked back. "Shun! Do you understand what you are doing?" Baffled, the young fighter shrank beneath the weight of the disapproving stare. His crimson aura withered. "I... I’m defending our sacred realm..." He honestly couldn’t understand why he stood accused here. Had he done something wrong?
With a sigh, the elder let go and leaned closer. He passed a conspiratorial whisper to the boy. "Shun, listen. Majins have an uncanny talent for fighting. They tend to mimic everything they see. In the past, the strongest one even learned to Teleport merely by seeing it once." Pausing there, he glanced at the girl to make sure she was staying put. Now the realization started to dawn on the younger one as well. "Oh... Oh no..." It was met with a knowing nod. "Exactly." Immediately the boy stepped back and bowed as deep as he could. "F-forgive me, master! In my haste, I have made a grave mistake." If his skin hadn’t been naturally blue, it would’ve probably been beet red or sheet white by now. Managing a gentle smile, the elder patted the boy on the back. And nearly made him fall over. "Hm, well, nothing that cannot be fixed, I hope." He turned to study the fearful child and stroked his long beard. His smile faded.

As the panicked screams disappeared into the distance, the odd group was left in heavy silence. Eventually Zam did nod at the difficult question. "Um... I... I guess..." Honestly, she didn’t want to think about it. She still had trouble believing it. The person she had thought as her best friend had turned against her. Beaten her. Badly. And the mean puh-leese people had locked her up in that dark room. She grasped her arm, trying to stop it from trembling. "I... did something really bad... And then I got beaten and and..." A soft sob interrupted her awkward retelling. Though her body had already healed, thinking about it all still hurt horribly.
The old Master nodded in deep understanding. "It’s okay. I know what happened." His comment caught the attention of his pupil. And disbelief too. "Wait, Master? You have observed her? Not to question your methods, but... Why?" Scratching his beard, the teacher took the opportunity for a small lesson. "Yes, you see..." Unfortunately divine reasoning was difficult to convey. All of it went way over the childish creature’s head. So she stopped listening about three words into the explanation.
While the two Shinjin discussed, the Majin focused on something else instead. A question that was bugging her. That red thing... Kai... something. Her antennae twitched curiously. People here had a weird tingle. Super weird. It felt... warm. Like sunshine. It was so calm too, like a grassy field without wind. She had never felt anything even close to it. Her quizzical stare turned towards the blue mister. So why did he feel so different earlier? So... Angry. Fiery. She closed her eyes and let out a deep breath. The memory flashed clearly through her mind. It went something... like... this. Her power started rising. Tiny traces of crimson randomly flared around her as she focused. Hnnnngh... Almost...
"Zam."
With a startled squeak, the child stopped. She knew that serious tone all too well. It meant she had done something that wasn’t allowed. Indeed, the elder stepped up to her looking rather grim. In the background, Shun held his breath in anticipation. Majins were chaotic killing machines. Heartless. Insane. Trying to negotiate or reason with them was pointless, he knew that much. So what manner of mystical persuasion would his master use?
The little Majin fidgeted beneath the stern stare. Like a kid caught with a hand in the cookie jar. "I just... wanted to see how it works..." After a pensive pause, the old Shinjin’s features softened. Clearly honesty was one of the girl’s virtues. "Curiosity is not a crime. But that technique is very special. It’s a secret that only few people are allowed to learn." Lowering himself to one knee, he reached out to gently ruffle the girl’s hair. To soften the blow as it were. "So please don’t try it without permission. Okay?" Dejected, she sighed so deeply that she deflated a little. "Aw, okay..." Still, she did understand. And the nice head pats eased the disappointment.
Meanwhile, the younger Shinjin flopped backwards with a frustrated cry. "How did that even work?!" His outburst earned him a disapproving glance. "Many problems in the universe could be solved if everyone used kindness rather than violence." Another lecture was coming, Shun could feel it. Much to his quiet relief, however, a distraction presented itself just in time. Carefully the girl tugged the taller adult’s sleeve. Once. Twice. "Hey, hey big Grandpa! Um, how do I get permission to try that Kai thingy?" She was still curious. And the big Grandpa hadn’t really said no...
Looking at the innocently glimmering golden gaze, the venerable Shinjin couldn’t bring himself to lie. "Well, it is not easy to get permission. You must prove your worth. That means passing a difficult test." Despite his best attempts to make it sound tough and boring, he only managed to accidentally fan the flames. The glimmer turned into a twinkle. "Ooh, so if I pass the test, will you teach me?" Rising to her tippy toes, she leaned closer eagerly. The bearded kai suppressed an awkward laugh. Ah, the energy of youth. "Erm, well, yes. Anyone who passes the test is qualified to learn the Kaioken. So it has been written." Forbidding it would no doubt lead the girl to try it on her own anyway. Without proper guidance she might hurt herself. Or someone else.
Shun, understandably, was less than thrilled. "Master...? A word, please?" Snatching the old man by his collar, he practically yanked him aside. Unfortunately whispering didn’t leave much room for him to convey his immense displeasure. But he tried his hardest regardless. "You can’t be serious! That thing is a destroyer! Cruel and merciless! And you are thinking of teaching it the sacred Kaioken?!" He couldn’t believe this was even a topic right now. His opinion on the matter was very clear. "We need to get rid of it as soon as possible! I shudder to even imagine what that little monster is thinking right now!" Zam’s ear twitched at that last part and she stuck out her tongue at the blue man. Bleeeh~! That’s what she thought.
And the furious whispering continued... Words: 2526

While the two Shinjin, erm, negotiated in frantic whispers, their bravest brethren soon showed up as well. Dozens of colorful guardians appeared around the intruder. Each took a stance. Their heavenly ki flared to full blaze. In response, the little Majin raised her fists as well. Magical energy started crackling around her. Rising and falling... A lie simultaneously too big and small to believe. Gold turned back to crimson. She couldn’t understand why, but... for some reason just looking at them was making her all antsy... It was like some screechy voice was shouting into her ear, telling her to kill the Kais. Somehow this all felt so weirdly familiar.
Before anyone could do anything regrettable, the elder Shinjin snapped back into reality. "Wait!" Heavy and stern, the shout froze everyone on their tracks. Heroes and troublemakers alike. He stepped next to the pink girl and patted her on the head. "Now now, let’s not get hasty. Zam is not here to cause trouble. Right, Zam?" The icy hostility melted away quickly. "Um, yeah!" Coyly she snuggled against the gentle hand. Disbelief washed over the heavenly attendants. Eyes bulged and jaws dropped. A nearly indestructible monster was subdued with a single technique. If... it even counted as a technique...? Others were not going to believe this...
Some reluctantly relaxed their stances. Others voiced their justified concern. Although perhaps the wording could have been better than- "Elder Mor, are you insane?!" Still, many agreed it was a valid question. Majins were pretty well known for their crazy and destructive nature. Of course the elder was aware. "Listen! It is a well-documented fact that Majins absorb influences around them. Sometimes literally." A collective groan rose from the crowd. Well, at least the poor attempt at humor eased the tension. Slightly. "Ahem, my point being that if an evil influence can corrupt a Majin, then the opposite must be true as well. A good influence can redeem them. Guide them along the right path. We have seen this happen." Silence swallowed the brewing protests. No one could deny it. There was undeniable historical proof.
Zam, meanwhile, carefully eyed the crowd. She was still a little wary of them, but they didn’t seem like bad people. Just... scared. Plus the new Grandpa was defending her. She leaned against her new guardian and grasped his clothes, seeking comfort. Being near him felt like napping in the sunshine. Warm... Calm... Nice... It made the screechy voice go away. She had already forgotten what the voice had wanted her to do. Oh well. It didn’t matter.
Now that Mor had his colleagues off-balance, he needed to deliver the decisive blow. "I shall look after Zam and take full responsibility for her actions." Gasps escaped from the crowd. Scandalous. Outrageous even. ...Buuut preferable to having a Majin rampage in their domain again. As the public opinion swayed towards the favorable side, the elder knelt next to the girl. Placing a hand on her shoulder, he carefully gauged her shifting power. "Zam, you did wrong when you came to our home uninvited and scared us." He kept it as simple as possible, for both of their benefit. "So, your first test is to apologize. Can you do that?" A question. Suggestion at most. But not a demand. Nobody could force change upon the child.
Meekly the girl poked her fingers together. Her gaze wandered on the grass. She was bad at this, but she still tried her best. "I-I’m sorry for coming uninvited and scaring you... I didn't mean to, honest..." Her Finally she managed to lift her eyes towards Shun. "Uh and sorry for hitting you..." It hadn’t been asked, but it felt right. The young Shinjin stammered something noncommittal, while the elder mused quietly. As expected, she learned at an alarming pace... Good manners were there, beneath the surface, but someone, something, had been warping them. However, surprise visited his features when the Majin shifted her gaze towards him in turn. "Um, can I stay for a while? I don’t want to go home..." His warm smile broadened.
"Of course."

Despite wary murmurs from the crowd, no one stood out to oppose the offer. That wasn’t to say anyone actually liked the idea, of course, but so far better suggestions weren’t coming to mind. So be it then. The Majin would be allowed to roam their realm for now. Under strict supervision of course. One wrong move and they would kick the troublemaker into the deepest depths of Demon Realm. Let them deal with it... With worry still permeating the air, the onlookers reluctantly returned to their duties. Preferably somewhere far away. Before long, the only ones remaining on the meadow were the two heavenly attendants and their strange, little guest.
Zam’s eyes positively sparkled at the answer. "For real?" She was so used to being denied that the affirmative nod was met with immediate glee. "Yaaay!" Before she could bounce off in her excitement, a firm pat on the shoulder brought her back to ground. Elder Mor cleared his throat. "About that special technique-" He got interrupted by a sharp elbow to his side. Shun quickly zipped between the girl and the elder. "Master, are you absolutely, positively, one hundred percent sure about this?" The quiet hiss brimmed with disbelief and anger. He knew he didn’t have much say in the matter, but he refused to stay silent. Master was about to do something utterly foolish. As his brightest student, he wouldn’t allow it!
Mor stroked his beard. Pondering... Wondering... Hm, perhaps he was wrong. Perhaps... This was a greater teaching opportunity than he initially surmised. "Shun..." His heavy tone made the student snap into attention. A reflex born from respect. "Yes, Master?" The teacher puffed his chest, voicing a supposedly simple question. "What is our duty?" The answer was given without a second of hesitation. Swift and precise. "To watch over the realms and protect ancient knowledge." A nod confirmed it correct. Another question followed. "Very good. And who may learn that knowledge?" And now the hesitation started. "Those who prove themselves worthy... But Master, that thing..." He resisted the urge to cast a suspicious glance at the puzzled girl. The sharp student could see where this was going.
"...cannot be worthy. It’s not possible."
The older Shinjin lifted a finger. A correction had to be made. "Not probable, perhaps. But very much possible." A small but important distinction. His brow furrowed. Immense authority filled his tone. "We are the observers of the universe. Creators. Teachers. Our duty is to bring forth new life and help it prosper." His stern look softened as he looked at the curious child. "In whatever form it may take." Clearing his throat again, he continued the lecture. "That includes guiding those who directly seek our counsel. Do you disagree?" The student wanted to protest. It was written all over his blue face. Yet he couldn’t think of a sensible counter-argument. Duty was absolute, of course... Tch, but it was still frustrating!
Zam wasn’t sure what to say either. Much of the lecture went way over her head. Kind of like the time Grandpa tried to teach her how to do laundry. In the end she had just ended up scrubbing clothes clean with magic. Grandpa had just laughed and said she had... uh... a penchant for for doing her own thing. Yeah, that was it. Looking up at the colorful Grandpa made her feel much the same. Hm. Then she would be just like she was at Earth Grandpa's place. On her best behavior! Silently she nodded by herself. No tricks or mischief, yus.
As if feeling the girl’s quizzical gaze upon him, Mor waved the difficult topic aside for now. "Erm, anyway, come along, Zam. I have something to show you." He turned to stroll towards a towering tree in the distance. Shun sighed and followed the lead. Zam rose from the ground and giddily floated after them. Walking would buy the two attendants time to calm down and gather their thoughts. And prevent the girl from accidentally learning Teleportation as well... Words: 3896

Walking often did wonders to frayed nerves. This stroll was no exception. Deep breaths calmed the restless hearts. Shun was finally starting to get a grip. He still had his doubts, of course, but thus far master had taught him admirably. So he silently resolved to wait and see how things played out. Admittedly Mor had been bit nervous there too. Majins were unfortunately volatile by nature. One wrong move and... Well, best not to think about it. Inner peace, happy thoughts and all that. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Majin was busy admiring the scenery. So many strange and colorful flowers! They kept her utterly mesmerized.
Once the odd trio arrived to the base of the tree, the elder turned to the little Majin. "Now, for the second test." Pointing upwards, he directed attention to the mighty tree. Thick and tall like a building, it offered a green sanctuary to birds, animals and particularly nature-loving Kai alike. "You have to climb to the top of this sacred tree and bring back one of the silver fruit." He held up three fingers. "There are three rules. One: No flying." Sullenly the child dropped to the ground. "Fiiine..." Sternly the teacher continued. "Two: No eating the fruit." It was met with a nod. And a frown. All the fun stuff was forbidden. "And three: If you lose the fruit before getting back, you have to start all over again." Fairly simple and simply fair, no?
The excited creature stretched her rubbery figure. "Okay! Here I go!" Dashing forward, she launched herself at the tree trunk. Boing, boing, boing, she bounced up the ragged surface. Even without flying the climb didn’t seem to pose much challenge. With her absurd strength and nearly boundless stamina, she just zipped from branch to branch. Local monkeys were left gawking at her playful agility.
However, only at the top was the true nature of the devious test revealed... Zam’s nose twitched. A sweet scent drifted through the air. It tickled her senses, beckoning her closer, promising a taste she had never experienced. There, between the leaves, shined a silver fruit reminiscent of an apple. Mouth agape, she drooled at the wondrous sight. She... wanted a bite... But...! If she wanted to learn that Kai thing, then she needed to focus! For once her curiosity overpowered her gluttony. More than snacks, she wanted secrets! With a vigorous shake she cleared the distracting thoughts from her head. Filled with determination, she plucked the fruit and stuffed it down her cleavage for safekeeping.
Then there was the problem of getting down...
Peering at the grassy field below, the little Majin pondered. It wasn’t that big of a drop. She could easily just splat against the ground and pull herself back together. But what about the fruit? She didn’t want her precious treasure going splat too... Still, she was a crafty little creature. Grabbing hold of a branch with one hand, she suddenly jumped. Her arm streeetched like a bungee cord, slowing her down until she came to a stop. Without skipping a beat, she snatched hold of another branch. The first hand let go and now the second one extended. Rinse and repeat! Within moments she had solid ground under her feet again.
Proudly the girl skipped over to the waiting Kais. She reached beneath the bandeau and revealed the prize. "Ta-da~! I got it!" The elder took the fruit and turned it in his grasp. Not a single bite mark... And no silver on her lips. "Well done, Zam. You have passed the second test." Indeed, she was capable of self-control. When properly motivated at least. He passed the sweet prize back the girl. "Oh and here, now you may eat it. Don’t be shy, have a bite." After some hesitation, she tore the fruit in two and offered a half to the nice Grandpa. He awkwardly averted his gaze and waved the offer aside. "Um, no thank you. It’s all yours." He had seen where that fruit had been... Words: 4572

A puzzled blink punctuated the silence. After a moment, Zam shrugged and bit into her prize. More for her then! And what a prize it was... From the first drop amazing sweetness exploded into her mouth. It danced in her mouth with every bite. So juicy, so soft! Somehow it tasted way better than any candy she had ever eaten. She shivered with a delighted squeal. Yummyyy! Humming happily, she munched away. Meanwhile Mor capitalized on the tasty distraction and motioned the girl to follow along. Their path led them past the tree, down a small valley and to a glimmering spring. Light glimmered on the crystal clear surface. Quiet wind whispered a serene song.
The elder cleared his throat and presented the spring reverently "Zam, your final test is to immerse yourself in the sacred spring of purification. Let the cleansing waters wash over you." Zam tilted her head quizzically. "...I need to take a bath?" The flat question kind of took the wind out of his sails when it came to dramatic effect. For a moment, he was tempted to correct her. Very tempted. However, sagely wisdom reminded him that trying to argue with a Majin, especially a child, was not worth the effort. "Eh... Sure, let’s call it that." He could feel his student glaring daggers at the girl. Shun had always been rather fanatical about rules.
Well, the little Majin didn’t mind baths. Sure, there were no bubbles or rubber duckies in this one, but she could have fun without them. A twinkle of magic made her clothes vanish. The shocked Shinjins quickly glanced away. A huge splash of water forced them to step back or be soaked. Shun muttered something about utterly shameless. He couldn’t believe the girl, erm, creature was allowed to treat the sacred spring like a pool. What was Master Mor thinking?
While Zam unknowingly completed a ritual, the student Kai could no longer hold his tongue. One more time he would attempt to reason with his teacher. "Master, you can’t be serious..." However, the elder was ready and unrelenting. "Oh I am quite serious. This girl has shown genuine remorse, discipline and kindness. Furthermore, she hasn’t had any adverse reaction to the divine ki permeating our realm." Some said the heavenly power was like poison to corrupted creatures. Of course there existed monsters powerful enough to withstand and even consume it, but this child was nowhere near that level. "Thus she is not evil by any measure. Just a little..." He glanced back at the child, only get a splash of water into his face. "...mischievous." Being playful was not a crime.
Mor wiped the water off his face and called out. "Well done, Zam. You can stop now." Obediently the little student bounced out of her bath hovered up to the elder. Expectant silence filled the air. The elder cleared his throat. "...Uh, please put your clothes back on." Now the realization came to the scatterbrained girl too. So that’s why she felt a breeze! "Oh, okay!" Another twinkle brought her attire back. Shun, meanwhile, sighed heavily. And this fool was supposed to learn the Kaioken? Perhaps he had been too worried. There was no way she would ever grasp the intricacies. Indeed, she would try few times, fail and grow bored. Yes, that had to be it.
Still, the elder Kai had made up his mind. "Now then... Majin Zam. I hereby declare that you have passed the third and final test. Under the eyes of heaven, you are deemed worthy." The puzzled stare he got in response elicited a small chuckle. "That means you have the permission to use Kaioken." Zam’s face lit up with boundless glee. Eyes glimmering, she leaned close. "Ooh, can I try it right now? Can I, please?" Her excitement only flared further when the nice Grandpa nodded. "Go ahead. I think you already have an idea, don’t you?" Shun didn’t even try to suppress a mocking scoff. There was no way...
Zam closed her eyes and focused. Her body coiled, fingers balled into fists. Okay, so... It went something... like... this. Her energy spiked. A wild flare engulfed her. Red wisps started sparking among the pink blaze. She gritted her teeth. It... hurt... But her instincts pushed her further. Suddenly the pink was overwhelmed by the red. The constantly rising power shot to monstrous levels. She opened her eyes and a sigh of steam escaped between her teeth. It still kinda hurt... But that was okay. She was immortal, you know. Flexing her fingers, she admired the red coloration. With one more clench, the explosive energy shrank back and she returned to normal.
Where the elder Kai nodded approvingly, the younger one’s jaw had dropped to the floor. His trembling voice couldn’t decide if it wanted to mutter impossible or monster. Well, what was done could no longer be undone. "Congratulations, Zam. You have learned the basics of Kaioken. Keep practicing and you’ll be able to use it just like Shun here." He placed a gentle hand on the girl’s shoulder. "Now then... I think it’s time for you to head home." Sadly, she couldn’t stay. This was not a place for her kind. And yet that was only a small part of it. "Someone is no doubt worried about you." He knew all too well. It was his duty to know.
Zam’s glee faded away. Realization glimmered softly in her eyes. "Grandpa Noudel..." After a moment of hesitation, she wrapped the tall Kai in a tight hug. She was kinda bad with words... So she just wouldn’t say it. As she let go, magic crackled in the air. A swirling portal opened behind her. Time to go home. Wiping the tiny tears away, she flashed her brightest smile. "Bye bye! Thanks for everything!" Just as abruptly as the little Majin had appeared, she vanished from the sacred realm. She had so much to tell Grandpa Noudel. And a brand new trick too. Before heading home though, a certain tropical island called her name.
But that would be a story for another time...
