[Earth - East City]"Man, am I really going to do this?" Deliberating to himself in a hotel room, Etohn gazes out the window. The cold, night sky, starlight glistening across its surface, beautifully illuminating the city. While Etohn had been "absent" during the Abbayor conflict, he was allowed some glimpses into what followed it. Things like the Peace Accords and that whole situation, the aftermath of trying to recover from the tragedy, and the chaos spawned from it. One part that caught him off guard, however, was from that boy named Absolut. While Etohn had heard of how Polaris had a family, he didn't expect them to have a child for some reason, much less a child that would actually succeed the Emperor. Past from what the young Frostling spoke of at Polaris' funeral, the Half-Saiyan had really no clue about the kind of person they were. They appeared to be kinder and more considerate than their father, but who's to say it's not just honeyed words in order to try and achieve the same goal? Rather than trying to figure it out from a third person perspective, Etohn would rather be a bit more direct with his approach. Once again, he curls his legs together and sits upon his bed, his mind clearing and, slowly, seemingly rising from his body. His consciousness fades as his spirit zooms towards Absolut, the fogginess of their dreams already blurring his approach. I hope I'm not making a mistake here.Words: 246 Tags: Emperor Absolut

"P-please... just wait for a few more seconds, okay?.. We should have enough time to escape regardless..."
Once again, Absolut's mind was choosing to torture him with nightmares. But it also knew that no nightmare which his mind could come up with would ever compare to what he had witnessed in the aftermath of the Galactic "Peace" Accords.
So, yet again, the young Frost Demon saw himself witnessing the battle of the greatest titans in the Galaxy. Lord Snow, in his miraculous, never before seen transformation, his half-mechanical son, and their Majin follower. Opposing them were three warriors who will soon be corpses. Lord Gallius, who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And two of his fathers, one whom Absolut tried to reject, but never could do so completely, and the other whom he acquired almost as a mistake, but had since grown attached to. Out of the three pillars holding his life up and preventing him from descending to a neverending cascade of agony, two collapsed that day, and the third one, his mother, he had presumed to be just as dead until not a long time ago.
Nothing was any different this time. Absolut and the rest of the crew of the Kabochan spaceship floating in the distant corner of the Peace Plaza watched the exact same overwhelming barrage of energy blasts fire from Snow's hand, piercing and destroying Polaris, Cam and Gallius before the teenage Frost Demon's eyes, and leaving Xell alone to fight the three monstrous opponents. And, once again, paralyzed in fear, Absolut did nothing to prevent this fate befalling them. Not even tried. Hell, he even technically disobeyed Cam's orders by not leaving as soon as he could and getting to witness the destruction.
The door of the ship started to close.
During the real battle, this was where Absolut went through the entire five stages of grief in a few seconds. He tried to deny what was happening. He let himself go in fury and, for the first and only time in his life, swore to kill someone. He pleaded and bargained Duria, his Saiyan mentor, to return back to Abbayor...
He didn't do any of that here. The image was now so engraved in his mind from all the times his nightmares tortured him with it that the young Frost Demon couldn't even bring himself to let out such raw emotion anymore. Only collapse to his knees, feeling his heart split to a thousand pieces, as the fabric of reality around him seemingly broke apart, transporting Absolut to a different dream entirely.
He might not have known that, but this sudden dream shift was not a trick his mind was pulling. It was birthed by peculiar outside interference.

For seemingly forever, Etohn glides through darkness, small glimpses of the dreams of others passing through the corners of his eyes. He felt vulnerable, floating in solitude, hoping that his attempt to invade the boy's dreams was successful. These worries were quickly voided, though, when he felt his feet finally touch onto something solid. All at once, light erupted around him, revealing the dream he's stepped into. The ground beneath his feet seemed to be a dull, grayish stone. Gazing upwards, the sky was merely the raw expanse of space, an obvious shield barrier protecting them from the vacuum of it all. Etohn guessed they were on a moon or asteroid or something like that. In front of him was a simple hotel, various space crafts parked orderly outside of the establishment. "Huh...odd...Guessing they're in there somewhere, then," Etohn whispers to himself, the deep quiet of the area unsettling him. As he stepped towards the building, he couldn't notice any movement. For a dream about a fairly social location, this kid's mind seems to be lacking on the social aspect. Without any trouble, he stepped up towards the entrance, his hand reaching out towards the handle. He casually turns the handle, about to step through the door when a flash of white suddenly zipped out right in front of his eyes. Barely reacting, he lurches backwards, the door falling in two, evenly cleaved sections in front of him. From the frame emerges a man. Clothed in a dark garb, blood splotches dotting its surface. An ominous, red mist rises from their body, accentuated by the crimson hue of their flowing locks. Piercing eyes bore into Etohn from below their cap, analytical and yet animalistic in its appearance. Clutched in their right hand is a simple saber, it's flawless edge glistening. Absolut's dream broke apart into something unexpected. The young Frost Demon found himself sitting on a shoddy, wet bed with a ripped up sheet, which looked like it had seen more than a few things which you couldn't show on television. The rest of the room didn't look much better - it resembled something you'd find in a slum and not the well decorated, if somewhat vain bedroom Absolut had been sleeping in as far as he remembered. This was still his world of dreams.
And unlike what he had just gone through - which he was still feeling shaken by, but constantly tried to forget - he actually had control of his own body and his reactions. Absolut took a glance across the room he ended up in. Despite how terrible it looked, there was something familiar about it, as if he was supposed to remember this moment from his past.
The strategy of being in a lucid dream is to first try to figure out exactly where you ended up, and Absolut had dreamt lucid enough times to tell what to do. The young Frost Demon stood up from the bed and began looking around the room, immediately catching note of a few things. The small furnace in the corner of the room with a bunch of papers inside, a Galactic Patrolman badge laying on a nearby bedside table, and a small emptied bag, a few photographs of his father still laying down next to it. The boy's memories soon recovered. The immediate days after his escape from Abbayor, staying in a questionable hotel far from home on the edge of Imperial territory, and meeting... and meeting...
Slash.
Someone speaking downstairs.
Something was happening out there. Without hesitation, Absolut stepped forward, opening the door of his room with a faint creak and stepping out. The rest of the floor was completely barren, dark and empty - all the other rooms were wide open and uninhabited, complete silence set in across the hotel except for what was happening on the ground floor. And as soon as Absolut reached the staircase leading towards the bar below, the situation became clear. The crimson mane on the head of the man standing in front of the door, staring out, indicated exactly who he had been dealing with.
Absolut's hand removed itself from the handle of the Sword of Greenskull hanging on his shoulder, and the teenager exclaimed:
"Felix?"

Etohn dared not to make a move. His whole body was tensed up, poised in anticipation of Felix's next attack. Whatever this dream apparition was, it obviously did not approve of the Half-Saiyan entering this dreamscape. With the obvious blood splotches decorating their clothing, it's likely that Absolut's mind recalls something incredibly violent involving this person, or at least that was a safe assumption. Was the boy Emperor in a nightmare right now? From within the building, a soft voice calls out, likely towards the swordsman, identifying them as Felix. Suddenly turning their head to the boy, he shouts, "Hey! Get back! Another assassin is-" quickly being cut off as Etohn capitalizes on their distraction, his fist smashes into his jaw, sending Felix smashing through the bar and into the wall behind him. Casually reeling back his arm, Etohn turns to the staircase, gazing at Absolut. "Hey kid, are you alright?" As he tries to step towards them, Felix rushes forth, his blade singing through the air as he places himself in the way of Etohn, his blade a blur as they slash out. His aura igniting around his right hand, he deflects the blade, keeping on the defensive against Felix's assault. The ground cracks beneath their feet from the force of the blows, the swordsman showing no signs of slowing. Growing tired of playing defense, Etohn lets out a shout, an invisible shockwave of ki resonating forth, sending Felix crashing into the staircase. Immediately, the Half-Saiyan rushes forward and picks up the man, turning on his heels and lobbing them out the opposite wall. "Alright, enough of this." Aiming his right palm towards the hole that Felix was thrown through, Etohn begins forming a ball of ki, energy violently sparking around the sphere. Felix was not here alone. As soon as the red haired swordsman turned towards Absolut to try to explain what is going on, he suddenly received a heavy blow straight into his cheek from an unfamiliar person. Completely unfamiliar - the dark hair and mechanical arm did not give Absolut even a single hint or a flashing memory. Whatever they were, they must have been a construct of the young Frost Demon's imagination. A yet another way for his exhausted and frustrated mind to torture its victim from night to night.
Which is why when the dark haired man suddenly turned towards Absolut and asked if he was alright, the young Frost Demon instinctively took a few steps back, his heart racing and his mind unsure on how to treat the situation. Felix was his friend, that one was for sure, even if the two of them started on less than perfect ground... but this man, even if a construct of his imagination, did not seem to be a villain either. What in the world is happening?
Well, what was happening was a fight between the unfamiliar arrival and Felix - the swordsman started pushing him back with a brutal offensive, until finally, having clearly grown tired, the man released a powerful burst of ki, turned the fight around and began charging up a powerful attack with his hand.
The Big Bang Attack. If Absolut's memory served correct, that was a Saiyan technique. It served as a hint on what exactly he was dealing with, and immediately raised several questions. For example, why would his imagination be thinking of a Saiyan of all people?
Absolut quickly pushed all those questions aside, however, as what mattered to him more is saving Felix from a possible demise at the Saiyan's hands. The young Frost Demon pressed forward from his position, speeding across the bar before finally stopping right in front of the Saiyan. Instantly after, with a wide and powerful slash, the Sword of Greenskull in his hands cut straight through the Big Bang Attack.
"Don't... touch... Felix..." Absolut muttered, slowly, a determined glare staring at the Saiyan.

Well, the last thing Etohn expected was for Absolut to just up and cut through his ki blast. Quickly retracting his hand, he confusedly gazes towards the boy. The little Frost Demon seemed serious about defending the blood soaked swordsman, so was this not a nightmare? "Wait, so you're telling me that guy's your friend?" Trying to agitate Absolut was not his intention, especially since he was intruding upon their dreams. If this ends up with the two fighting, then the dream would probably begin breaking apart and force him to go back to his body, considering how they probably have no clue who he is. "Get away from him!" Crawling back through the wall Etohn threw him through, Felix wearily holds his blade forwards. "You're going to have to get through me if you wanna cash in his head, Saiyan!" "I ain't an assassin. Piss off," Etohn snarls back. In a blur of motion, Felix appears at the side of the Half-Saiyan, his blade cleaving downward towards them. With a halfhearted effort, he smacks the edge aside, striking Felix in the sternum in the same motion. With only a little sputter, they fall to the ground, out of breath and clutching their chest. "There, that'll keep you there for a few seconds, at least. Don't bother testing me again." Returning his gaze to Absolut, Etohn motions towards the stairs. "Kid, I just want to talk. Let's go up back where you were or whatever, and when I'm done I'll be out of your hair."Words: 255 Total: 1109 Tags: Emperor Absolut

Witnessing the one-armed Saiyan in front of him speak back to Felix like he was nothing, and then promptly swat him aside, awakened an emotion inside Absolut which he hoped he'd be able to forget at least in one dream. Fear.
And paralyzing fear, too. His brief glimpse of bravery and show of resolve against the Saiyan ended up tossed at the way's side, and Absolut merely stood in the same place as he had before, watching him dispatch of Felix and then gesture towards the stairs, requesting a talk between the two. What could he do against such an overwhelming power after all, even if it was in the world of dreams?
Absolut only got broken out of his frightened trance once his eyes caught the sight of Felix lying on the ground, out of breath, severely battered, which instantly got the young Frost Demon to run up to the man and exclaim with worry:
"Mr. Felix! Are you okay?!"
Funny enough, he had never actually gotten to refer to Felix by 'mister' before, unlike, say, Cam or Lute. Though Absolut's memories of the assassin were somewhat fond, the connection between the two was too brief to get such an opportunity. The young Frost Demon turned to address the Saiyan right after - pulsating fear was still gripping his mind, but it was alleviated by the fact that, in the case that a fight did break out, he wouldn't be fighting just for himself.
"...Who are you?" he spoke, unwilling to simply follow after someone who he couldn't recall ever seeing before, even in his world of dreams. "And why should I trust you?"

Whoever this Felix was, clearly the boy was very attached to them, immediately dropping to their side to check that they are unharmed, receiving only some nodding from the man. If they were a real person, it would be an intense pain, their ribs would be rattling, and they wouldn't be able to breathe, but they should be unharmed. When prompted about who they were, the edges of Etohn's mouth quiver slightly. He didn't anticipate Absolut being incapable of recognizing him, considering that they were Polaris' son. Were they really that disconnected from their father? Another possibility is that they do know who Etohn is, but they haven't seen him since before he left for Shizen, where he had a rather dramatic growth spurt. Would their mind go into a further panic if they did recognize him, as he was an enemy of Polaris'. So many unknowns, and very little time for thinking of an answer for it. "Ahh, well, uhh...You shouldn't worry about the who. We've never met, after all. I'm not somebody you should worry about, though. Like here, check it." Raising his left hand briefly, a green flow of light travels towards Felix, immediately quelling their wheezing. Slowly, they sit upright, confusedly gazing towards their chest. "See? I've got feel-good juice and everything. All I want to do is talk, nothin' more. It ain't like I'm asking you for your bank account and asking for you to trust me, alright?" Internally, these words felt awkward, but he was just trying to not act as though this was a dream. The last thing Absolut needs to think about is stuff in his dreams realizing they're in a dream. This was... an odd dream. Despite having just displayed strength so intimidating that Absolut froze in fear watching him, despite having knocked down and easily beaten someone whom Absolut had looked up to in a sort of way, this Saiyan in front of him did not try to do anything. He didn't attack the young Frost Demon, he didn't speak out against him in any hostile sort of manner, he even raised his hand to send a some sort of healing pulse towards Felix to recover his injuries as a measure of good will.
It was... hard for the young Frost Demon to comprehend. Maybe this was because Absolut had gotten so used to dreaming nightmares, which would all boil down to his mind torturing him one way or another, that he could hardly even imagine something nice happening to him in the world of dreams at this point. It was a reason why the Frost Demon slept less and less as days went by, much to the chagrin of his mother and courtiers.
Absolut lowered his eyes, his sight trailing across the weary floor of the bar for a few seconds, before he finally figured that if his dream was so insistent on listening to what this mysterious man has to say, then he might as well follow through with it.
"...Fine. If there's something you want to talk about." the young Frost Demon muttered and stepped forward, following after the Saiyan to the stairs.

With a nod, Etohn begins leading Absolut up the steps, being careful to float over the missing steps from where Felix was smashed into them. When the crimson haired man in question tried to follow after the pair, Etohn simply raised a hand in a halting gesture before continuing up. He didn't want dream people to hear what he's about to talk about, especially if they had a sword and weren't afraid to use it. "Be quick about it, Saiyan. It'll take more than a little healing trick to make me trust you," Felix grumbles, trying to sound intimidating despite being all too aware of the difference in strength between the two. While Felix was a fairly strong combatant when Absolut met him, he was definitely not on the tier of the Half-Saiyan. Leading the Frost Demon through an already open door, Etohn goes and takes a seat on a chair. Giving them a few moments to make themselves comfortable, Etohn starts off with saying, "So, you're the Emperor. That's gotta be tough for a kid to be put into that position. There's a lot of responsibility sitting on your shoulders, the state of the universe is pretty shitty for somebody like you, and worst of all..." He pauses, steeling his gaze towards the boy. Absolut's eyes glanced to the side after Etohn started the conversation, the young Frost Demon sitting down on the floor of the room, listening to what the Saiyan had to say. The crappy, worse for wear look of the room the two of them were in complimented very well with his statement - he's the Emperor, who's got to succeed Polaris of all people, and yet he is in this hotel with only a single man with a sword guarding him. Why's that? Is something wrong?
The young Frost Demon released a sigh. Just a whole bunch of truth handed to him on a platter. He couldn't even try to argue against it - the fact that he was simply not prepared for the responsibilities of the throne was something he had been forced to live by every day at this point.
"I..." Absolut muttered, struggling to form a sentence, before an idea finally popped into his mind. "I could be a lot better... The truth is, I never wanted to be where I am now. I even tried saying no when Mr. Lute gave me the offer... but at that point, it wasn't really something for me to decide."
Absolut's voice turned somber. "I guess this is just how this Universe works. I never wanted to witness my father die before my eyes, either, but it had other plans."

Etohn's eyes take a sympathetic glow as Absolut talks about himself. Like the man thought, they were a kid that just didn't feel ready for the responsibility to come with being an Emperor. Like a kid, they were just doing what they were told, and yet here they are, hiding away in their dreams to try and escape it. Was it fair for Absolut to be put in a position where he has to be a strong ruler for who knows how many people? Etohn felt it wasn't, but he also knew that somebody would have to take the job, and the Empire wasn't a beacon of good will even aside from Polaris. If the kid didn't, somebody worse would. "...Yeah, that's rough, buddy. I can't imagine stuff has been going very well for you lately. Life's unfair n' all that, but it still doesn't make it so all that bad stuff can just be ignored," he murmured, clenching his hands together tightly. "Still, though, the Universe has plans for you. You don't seem like you can handle them, though. Seeing your dad die would make a lot of people shut down, so I bet everything feels that much worse. Something you have to keep in mind, though..." he pauses, raising a hand to point at the boy. "...is that you can have people helping you. Absolut's eyes continued glancing across the floor, his eyes somber, as Etohn started his reply. It wasn't that he tried to ignore all the terror and evil mounting on his shoulders - he simply did not have the strength to make anything but faint splashes in the river as it roared on. Mr. Lute's training was then highly important - already, Absolut could feel himself growing a lot stronger than what he was before, and maybe, just maybe... he could make a difference once all of it is said and done.
This is exactly where, however, Etohn raised the question - obviously, he receives help on how to rule the Galactic Empire, that's obvious, even an adult couldn't manage a nation all by himself, but does he receive help? Absolut's eyes perked up, and the young Frost Demon blinked a few times, not sure on how to respond, or what exactly did his dream even want to tell him.
Does he mean people helping him train and become stronger? He did receive help there, but from what he had seen of Lute, it was more of a question of duty to him rather than any actual inner desire to help Absolut out. He might have been wrong, but he did not have much reason to assume otherwise, the Namekian felt far too sinister...
Besides, Absolut wasn't even sure if the way how Etohn phrased the question even hinted to that.
Best to ask and find out what the Saiyan meant, then.

To Etohn's surprise, the boy responded with confusion. Rather than giving an answer assuming what he meant, they just questioned his meaning in the first place. Either they just didn't understand, or they've simply got no idea on what such a question could mean. "Ahh, well, I mean who helps you. Who's there to give ya a hug when you need one, or who's there to listen to you when you're really excited about something, or someone who just likes to hang out with you. You know, friends. People who will be there for you just for the sake of it, and not for their job or whatever." Etohn has never really looked into how most Frost Demons live their lives, or what their home life is, etc. but based on all of the members of that race he's met, he can't imagine it's the best. Polaris seemed whole-heartedly dedicated to their ambitions, to the point where it seemed like he only ever meant business with everything he dealt with. The Half-Saiyan merely wondered if Absolut lived similarly. "Felix down there seems sorta like a friend to you, but they also don't really seem like the person a kid should hang out with. After stating his confusion with Etohn's question, Absolut's mind immersed into itself for a second, wondering where his dream was trying to point. If the Saiyan meant people who helped him to train... well, he's had Mr. Cam, right? And Mr. Duria, and Mr. Lute... all of whom were intimidating and far from the nicest people to talk to, or nice people at all, but they certainly were important in bringing Absolut's strength up to where it was. Cam was probably the least harsh of the three and actually nice to him every once in a while... but, well, he wasn't really around at this point, was he?
Which is exactly the moment of thought where Etohn explained what he originally meant.
Who's there to give ya a hug when you need one, or who's there to listen to you when you're really excited about something, or someone who just likes to hang out with you. People who will be there for you just for the sake of it, and not for their job or whatever.
You know, friends.
Friends.
Absolut stared into Etohn as if the Saiyan had just flipped him off, or slapped him across his cheek.
Immediately, memories rushed into the young Frost Demon's mind - but unlike everything in the past, they were... warm, nice. Of the time before that fateful day when he fled from Abbayor. Of spending his evenings with his sister Arctica, playing video games, watching animated shows or just playing like the children she still is and he no longer was. Of his class in the Galactic Patrol Academy on Abbayor, and, before that, middle school.
"I..."
School! The thing people his age should be worried about, not... whether he will stay alive tomorrow or whether the Universe was rightly punishing him for letting both of his fathers die!
Absolut opened his mouth a few times, desperately trying to say something, but nothing besides a few incoherent mutters came out. Until finally, the Frost Demon stopped trying to respond.
And just broke into tears.
Before he could let Etohn say anything else, Absolut suddenly stood up and burst out of the room, a few sobs echoing across the empty corridor as he went.

At the mention of friends, Absolut began to freeze up. Such a simple word, yet it had so much meaning. So much, in fact, that it left the Frost Demon boy in shock, his mind processing the idea based upon whatever his background allowed him to know of it, or the lack of knowledge overall. Etohn wasn't sure, but it definitely did something to him. Then, without any warning, the kid ran out of the room, bawling loudly as he retreated. Etohn tries to reach after him with his right arm, but he notices cracks forming along the appendage. The floorboards warped slightly beneath his feet, and the air began getting caught in his throat. The dream was destabilizing. It wasn't to the same degree as with Polaris after he found Etohn out, but he definitely couldn't remain here. He vowed that he would return to help Absolut, but there was nothing he could do right now. Slowly, his body vanishes from the dreamscape, returning to his mortal coil, the only thought running through his head being, Polaris...What did you do to your kid?
As Absolut ran from the room, Felix awaited the boy, extending his arms out for the boy to come to him, though his body quickly begins melting away, turning into assorted mangled body parts, horrendously torn apart. Very reminiscent of the assassins Felix dispatched on that fateful day. Blood dripped from the roofing, and the windows glowed with a menacing crimson light. Absolut continued running and running and running, desperately trying to hold back tears and sobs, only holding himself up on both of his feet and not collapsing to the dreary floor of the corridor through a sheer force of will. Felix was inching closer. And a part of his mind wanted to run towards the assassin and bury himself in his grasp... but...
"Felix down there seems sorta like a friend to you, but they also don't really seem like the person a kid should hang out with. Covered in blood, swinging a sword around at whoever moves, and trying to kill people. Is there anybody who's more...like you?"
Clenching his teeth further, Absolut ran past Felix outright, the assassin soon dissolving into a pile of limbs, mangled body parts and blood. Hell, the whole dream was starting to turn... bloody. The aforementioned red liquid was dripping from the ceiling, the walls and floor were turning red shifted... and as the young Frost Demon burst through the door into the outside of the bar, he witnessed the entire sky turn pure, bright crimson.
Before finally collapsing underneath its weight outright.
"AAAAAH!" Absolut woke up with a scream, covered in sweat. Finally, after such a long trip getting dragged from one bad dream to another, he returned to the world which he had been used to. His royal bed, which was far too soft for him to endure, his well furnished and beautiful looking room...
"Your Majesty, this is the third time this week." a disembodied voice rang out across the room, and the hologram of a female Frost Demon soon formed outside of the frightened Emperor's bed. "And it is only Wednesday."
Absolut clutched onto his head. "I... I had a nightmare. A lot of nightmares."
"That is your usual answer to these questions, Your Majesty. This week is turning out to be less time intensive, I may be able to register you an appointment with a-"
"No!"
Absolut took several intense breaths, his hands clenching onto the bedcloth more tightly.
"I... I don't need that help. I'll manage... I'm the one who needs to help others, not the other way around."
