Sun shined warmly and feathery clouds drifted in the gentle breeze. Wild, lush forests stretched as far as eyes could see. Among the towering trees, stone ruins dotted the landscape, covered in moss and vines. Aside from few local tribes staying true to their way of life, humans tended to stay out of the Sacred Land of Korin. And for a good reason. The huge forest was overrun by vicious beasts, dinosaurs especially. Not exactly a tourist destination, no. Few souls had any reason to come here willingly. But some were brave, adventurous or just plain greedy and foolish enough to face the untamed nature.
Speaking of beasts, a massive roar suddenly echoed from the heart of the forest, shaking the trees and sending the critters fleeing. Screeching birds scattered to the skies. Heavy footsteps pounded the earth. Then suddenly... Utter silence... Flying above, one might see the sun glinting off of something big and shiny among the green plants and gray rubble. At a closer look, it turned out to be a giant ice sculpture of a charging dinosaur. An incredibly lifelike sculpture... In the middle of a warm forest...
Something strange was indeed going on and one didn’t need to look far for the culprit. On a nearby rock sat a small and feminine figure. Mauve locks of hair framed a dainty yet deathly pale visage. Dressed in dark robes and wearing a wide-brimmed hat, she looked like something that had stepped out of a story book. A magic wand made of metal hung from her belt, while a broom rested against her shoulder. She leafed through a thick tome titled Sacred Secrets. While she might’ve seemed a touch young to be called wicked, a witch she was for sure.
With a frustrated sigh, Lilith silently wondered where she had been before the noisy interruption. ...Until she found the passage again. Her expression brightened just the slightest bit. Ah yes, the Sacred Land of Korin... The home of a mythical structure that reached for the heavens, surrounded by a forest of beasts and guarded by native tribes. Yes, this dreary place fit the description perfectly. Except that the fabled tower was now a pile of scattered rocks. Lovely. Admittedly the old book wasn’t quite up to date. Ancient tomes didn’t exactly come out with new editions all that often.
However, all hope was not lost. After... ugh... discussing with the smelly savages inhabiting the place, the young witch had learned three things. One, the former guardian hadn’t been seen in a couple hundred years, presumably captured and killed for the secrets he was protecting. Two, the tower had been in ruins for a long time as well. Three, stories told that whoever attacked the guardian was most interested in the magical Senzu Beans. That meant there had been magic here, once upon a time, and something valuable might still be hiding here, ancient knowledge that the ignorant mortals overlooked. Definitely worth a search.
Lilith closed the book and held it under her arm. Lightly she rose from her seat to carefully survey the surroundings. Her crimson gaze stopped on a huge pile of rocks vaguely resembling half of an upturned bowl. There was a huge crack in the stone and the structure seemed hollow. Perhaps there was something inside? Behind... All those rocks... Great. Unfortunately physical labor wasn’t the noblewoman’s forte. The very first piece of rubble turned out to be an insurmountable obstacle, stubbornly sitting in place no matter how she struggled to nudge, shove or puuush it aside. If only she had the power to summon a familiar to do the digging for her...
