When one hear the word pilgrimage, people often associate them with religious journey to locations of great importance to their faith or believe. At these locations, they were granted spiritual benefits and reaffirm their belief in faith. And while Tsubaki would not consider herself to be deeply religious, she also made a pilgrimage of her own to various training halls where other martial arts were practiced. It was also the reason why she was in desolate mountain filled with dense forest in first place, she had ask one of the passerby along the way in search of dojo nearby to which they kindly give her the direction. In hindsight, she should have paid notice that those passerby she met were monks and that their definition of dojo are slightly different than what she actually have in mind. A light rain has fallen as she neared the "dojo" but she paid little heed to them, thinking that she could simply take shelter inside. It was not until she neared the end of the stone steps did she realize her mistake, that she should have been more specific with the term dojo for it was not only a place to train but in some places, it was a place of praying and meditation...and given the unfamiliar structure of the building before her, it seemed more and more likely to be the latter. For one the building was relatively small in size meant to house a small group of people. It's roof was concave, the building itself seemingly octagonal, a simple but refined and well-made thing which stood well against the passage of time. Gold pillars supported the base structure yet in contrast the craftsmen simple wooden ones to support it's upper half. The biggest giveaway were the two gourds which flanked both sides of the flight of stairs, a dojo with animal theme would often place statues of the animal they based their martial arts with instead. She was about to turn her back when there was a squall followed by heavy rain, drenching the swordswoman even further. After taking a few moment to consider, she finally decided to rushed towards the temple all the same if only to take shelter from it. Raising her fist, she knocked on the wooden temple door three times her ears straining to listen over the pouring of the rain for any signs of living beings inside the temple. WC:404 words. Liang Bai

Inside the “dojo”, a single woman was there, incense burning in front of her as she seemingly prayed. Her hands were balled up into fists, thumbs tucked inside them as the left fist went over the right, forming a shape vaguely resembling a yin and yang. Bai had decided to come up here during the week of her training with Atreus, requesting to him that she take a day to go up and pray, perform rituals and such; despite no longer living in the monastery, she was still a Taoist monk. Fortunately, he had accepted, and she had gone to the place she always went to when she wanted to pray on her own. It was an isolated location, away from the eyes of most. It had begun raining during her stay there, and unfortunately, her hat wasn’t enough to protect her from the sheer onslaught of it. She didn’t mind too much, as it simply meant that she would have to stay here for the time being and prolong rituals and prayers. Right now, she was in the middle of praying, the incense symbolising a sacrifice to the ancestors and gods, the ashes falling to the ground, representing impurities. She bowed before the altar and closed her eyes. However, the ritual was suddenly interrupted by a knock on the door, snapping her back to the real world. It only took her a moment to realise that the rain was strong and that others might need shelter, and without thinking twice, grabbed her staff and made way for the door, opening it up for whoever was on the other side. Tsubaki would see the doors open naught but a few seconds after she knocked, coming face to face with a young woman dressed in robes, a conical hat, and wielding a staff. She was clearly a monk, although that wasn’t the most striking thing about her, no. It was her blindness; her eyes were closed, and she seemed to rely on her staff to detect where she was. The interior was simple, with wooden stands scattered around, small places for kneeling. There was a large display case for various figures on the wall, and a gourd for incense in the centre. All in all, it was a simple but practical place. Bai would immediately speak, saying, “Come inside! Standing out in the rain will do you no good!” And making way for Tsubaki to come in. When she did do so, Bai would close the door behind her and get a towel from the bag on one of the chairs and bringing it to her, “Here. Use this.” She said.

The rain was growing stronger but fortunately for Tsubaki, she didn't have to wait for too long as barely a few moments after she knocked, the temple door opened before her to reveal a beauty behind them. The woman behind them was about her height, with long straight hair flowing down behind her and wearing the traditional attire one would associate with religious figures. But the most peculiar feature of all were her eyes which remained close the whole time. This vision was further enhanced by her melodious voice and though Tsubaki hesitated at first she nodded. Halfway through the nod that Liang Bai may not actually be able to see her, so she decided to vocally voice her gratitude at such warm reception. "Thank you. Pardon the intrusion..."Tsubaki uttered as she stepped inside. With that the swordswoman stepped inside and as she tried to enter there was a clack as the sheathe of her blade hit the edge of the door, forcing her to readjust her grip so the sword length fit the entrance before she walked inside. If there was any belief that this could still be a martial dojo in first place, all of them were blown away upon witnessing the interior of the building. There were various figures...idols she assumed to represent the deity for one to pray to. The smell of incense were strong as well, though the only reason she was familiar with them in first place was because she remembered lighting one up for when her mother passed away. Grabbing the towel from her, she put her sword away and let it lean against the wall as she began to dry herself starting with her head before she worked her way downwards as her eyes continue to observe her surroudning. So far she did not see anyone else other than Bai within the temple although they may very well somewhere else on the building. After drying herself, she turned to look for a place to put the wet towel before she decided to place them on one of the stands. "You have my sincerest thanks Shrine Maiden. My apologies for interrupting you, I shall leave immediately once the rain has stopped."there was a pause as she continued to look around the interior of the building. One thing she had heard about temples like this was that occassionally they have a place for one to donate their money. And while she didn't exactly subscribe to any faith, she took out her wallet and take some bills inside before pushing it to Liang Bai's hand. "Here, it's not much but this is my offering." Indeed, this wasn't a martial dojo in the least. This was merely a place of prayer and ritual. The figures in the temple were all important figures in Taoism, and though worship of a higher being wasn't a thing in Taoism, there were still people that were important and contributed to the religious tradition, whether they be figures borrowed from other places or the founding fathers of Taoism. Bai was alone in the building, and there didn't appear to be any room for another to stay in, meaning Tsubaki could safely assume they were alone. Bai herself wasn't strong enough to match up to Tsubaki, so she was in no danger of being attacked or otherwise threatened. Still, it was a wise idea to be careful; even though Bai wouldn't hurt a fly, Tsubaki had no way of knowing that. Bai just stood there, waiting at attention for Tsubaki to dry herself so she could get something else that Tsubaki might need. Already, the woman would be able to tell that the younger girl was the helpful and nice type, and didn't seem to mind the fact that she was armed; she had heard the clack of her blade, but it didn't deter her in the least. When Tsubaki spoke, Bai blinked before shaking her head and speaking in a reassuring tone, "Please, don't feel as if you're a bother or an intrusion. You can stay here for as long as you'd like." After saying this, she'd notice Tsubaki had finished drying herself and seemed to be reaching for something, making her wonder what it was, until it was handed to her. Feeling the texture of it, she realised it was money, and was rather surprised this was being offered to her; it was rare for someone to donate to them, and so she smiled gratefully, happy someone made the offer, and bowed in thanks to her, "Thank you, miss. I promise your donation won't be in vain." She said, before quickly moving to a small place behind the incense pot and putting the money there. There were a few coins and bills, but nothing substantial.
After doing this, she would quickly turn back to Tsubaki and approach her, deciding to introduce herself, "My name is Liang Bai, styled Shiming. I apologise for not introducing myself earlier." She said, deeming it rude that it had taken her this long to give her her name.

Having never visited a Taoist temple before, everything that surrounds the swordswoman looks quite foreign it was almost as if she visited another city altogether. Even in her old town, they worship and believe in a different faith altogether thus she wasn't quite sure the custom when it comes to this temple. Should she have bowed first before entering? Take off her boots? Liang Bai didn't seem to mind so perhaps she was just overthinking it. Now that she was fully dried she took that moment to observe Liang Bai carefully. It was not the first time for her to encounter blind people before but most of the time they wore sunglasses and wielding a walking stick in their hands. She did find it amazing for her to navigate amongst the stand without knocking anything over or even use the staff to check for where the stands were place. Did she memorize them by heart perhaps? Her introduction halted her from the train of thought and while Liang Bai cannot see she bowed in returned. "No apologies is necessary My name is Tsunemoto Tsubaki. Tsunemoto is my family name, you may address me as Tsubaki."the woman introduced herself in return and while she was not blessed with the jolly name of vegetables like the Saiyan despite inheriting their blood from her father's side, one can still sense pride behind the name all the same. Still, the swordswoman wasn't exactly known for small talk and while she would normally have been content keeping quiet and let Liang Bai be, she believe she at least owed the woman an explanation for her sudden appearance "I've left home to hone my skills and train under different dojo. Although the one I seek to train under are more... martial in nature than spiritual."Certainly she had practice meditation before but rather than in an attempt to connect or appeal to the higher powers for strength or guidance it was simply done to clear her mind and regain her expended ki. For this temple, there was no particular custom for entering or doing much of anything apart from being respectful. Only those who came to pray or perform rituals had to follow certain protocol, otherwise, people were free to come in without worrying about any special custom or such. For this reason, Bai didn't mind Tsubaki at all. And indeed, Bai had come here several times previously, and so remembered where all the stands were. She usually did rely on her staff for echo-location, but places she resided in or frequented a lot were committed to memory. She could accurately tell where everything was even in spite of her disability; as one might imagine, her memory was excellent, using it a lot so she would only need a few moments to get the bearings of a room and navigate it properly. Although Bai did not see the bow, she did sense her body lowering itself, and recognised it for what it was, and thus returned the bow with one of her own, rising and saying, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Tsubaki. I apologise if the building isn't as hospitable was would be ideal. I hope you don't mind." It seemed that this girl had a habit of apologising to people for the smallest of things. Bai did note the pride in her voice, and it made her wonder if her family was important or if she simply held it in great esteem. Oh, well, musings for later.
After she said this, Bai took a moment to sit down on one of the chairs and bring one over for Tsubaki to sit on as well, listening to the woman give the explanation as to why she was here, Bai nodded, taking in her words and paying attention to what she said. By the end of it, she'd speak, "Ah, I see... unfortunately, as you've already noticed, the temple is no place for honing your martial skills. I do know of a Shaolin monastery nearby though. I used to train there." She explained to her, "I can lead you there, if you want. I wouldn't really be able to explain how to get there, so..." She seemed a bit embarrassed by this little factor, likely attributed to being blind.

"The pleasure is mine. Worry not about hospitality, you provided more than enough for an unexpected guest."Tsubaki took note that the girl seems to make a habit of apologizing like one of her friend, although in the case of the latter that was because she was moreso timid. Being offered to sit down, she accepted and lower herself to one of the chairs, keeping her posture straight as she listened to her reply.
Having heard her explanation, the girl informed her of a shaolin monastery which perhaps what the monks really meant when they told her about dojo. The fact that Bai used to practice there draw her attention more than her blindness as she blinked slightly and start to revise her impression and observe her more carefully. Throughout her journey it was not strange to hear a blind grandmaster who mastered their arts and can even match warriors who have honed all five of their senses. Perhaps she's suppressing her power level so as not to attract attention? If so it certainly worked on her as she would have thought that Liang Bai is a non-combatant.
"Perhaps when the rain have stop I shall take you on that offer. I am not in that much of a hurry." Lacking a raincoat or an umbrella she wasn't quite eager to go out there to get drenched once more nor does she feel like imposing the girl further. She wished that the girl could simply tell her which direction but for now she should take what she can get. That she knew how to make her way there even while being blind interest her as well, she could barely make sense where to head to in this forest without signs or landmark to assist her.
"Do you live here by yourself Miss Liang Bai? I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for a maiden to live in such an isolated place like this." She took care not to mention the word blind, she wasn't quite sure how sensitive Bai would be about it. The blind people she encountered in the past often require assistance from people around them and in a place like this where it is unlikely for her to meet people in a daily basis would multiply the difficulty exponentially. The temple did not look like it has received a lot of visitors either, which she judged from the simple decorations of the shrine and the lack of money from the pot.

Hearing Tsubaki speak those words had Bai relieved, happy she hadn't disappointed her guest in some way. It wouldn't do for her to be any less than hospitable, after all. She was the type to fuss over manners and proper etiquette, "Ah, that's good. I'm glad you didn't find this place inadequate." She would say.Bai had trained for most of her childhood in the Shaolin Monastery. While such places usually were stubborn on the matter of teaching women, they had deemed Bai talented enough to receive the same training as males. It was a misogynistic tradition, but one that would likely stay for quite a while until Confucianism had less of a hold on their way of thinking. She hoped that happened one day. On the matter of power levels, Bai wasn't that strong and even in spite of the spike in power she got from training under Atreus, it was still nothing too significant. A mere 7,500 in power, which was impressive considering she just started out, but she still had a long way to go before she could compete with the truly powerful warriors of the galaxy. She also did suppress it outside combat, as she disliked attracting attention from others that could potentially sense her. Bai nodded when Tsubaki spoke. She did feel she needed to help Tsubaki navigate in the forest, seeing as she likely was a newcomer, and the Shaolin Monastery wasn't exactly laid bare for all to see. There was also the fact that she couldn't give effective directions due to being blind; she didn't think Tsubaki would remember how many steps she'd have to take before turning a certain direction, which was how she navigated the forest. In a way, being blind was an advantage, as she wouldn't be confused by places that looked the same, which was how many travellers got lost. She just went on memory. When asked if she lived by herself, Bai immediately shook her head, "No, I don't. This place is a more isolated location, but the Taoist Monastery I live in is a few ways away, and it has more people that helped me when I was younger and not as proficient at navigating blind as I am now. I don't need assistance from people to move around, as I use echo-location and sense ki to do that, but it wasn't always like that." She explained to Tsubaki.

Tsubaki tilted her head slightly as she listened to Liang Bai's explanation. Her ears perk slightly at the term echolocation, she knew the term from watching old documentaries of bats navigating their way through caves. While she could appreciate the usefulness of said ability she never had the opportunity to learn one in first place, nor was there a necessity to being born with all five of her senses intact. Something else that piqued her curiosity was that Liang Bai always faced her directly during her conversation. A rather impressive feat as most blind people she had seen usually talk by facing sideways, often with one of their ears facing the speaker. No sooner than she thought about this, Liang Bai informed her of one of her other capability which is the ability to sense ki. Her interest in the Shaolin temple grew even more as this would mean that the monks there would be skill and not simply doing it out of tradition or to keep their body in shape. The woman nodded slightly to herself, her mind already wondering about the martial arts they practiced....she had a few ideas but without seeing them or hearing more information for herself she could only speculate. She would just have to wait until she get there. It was then that the swordswoman realized she had kept silent after hearing the explanation and given Liang Bai couldn't see her face or her thoughtful expression, she could only imagine the thoughts that unfold inside the shrine maiden's head. Not to mention the conversation seem to have revolved around Liang Bai more than herself and she was sure that besides her introduction and her purpose Liang Bai must be rather curious of her unexpected guest. "You must be pretty proficient with it then to be left here at such a tender age." If the swordswoman had to hazard a guess from looks alone Liang Bai must be around her age, give or take a few years at most. A slight tone of admiration and genuine respect could be heard in her voice as she recognized the mental strength it took to live here without friends or companions aside from the occassional visit. Even if Liang Bai's power level is low, she possessed the cerebral fortitude of an accomplish warrior. "Feel free to ask me whatever you wish Miss Liang Bai." Throughout the conversation Liang Bai had not pose a single question towards her. Respect or not lacking the opportunity perhaps? Regardless of the reason she waited for Liang Bai's inquiries. Indeed, anyone with sight attempting to learn echolocation would find a huge block from the interference of sight. It would take a long, long time, and it did take a long time for her as well, but like a bat at night... no, bats aren't actually blind, but in night, sight doesn't matter at all, so she was able to adapt, being in perpetual darkness. Sight was a useful thing that she wished she could have, for sure. And indeed, Bai always seemed to face Tsubaki when she spoke, and for a normal blind person, this would be quite the feat for a blind person, but as she had said earlier, she was able to sense ki, and always had that on. It had become second nature to her by now, and having it off was like being truly blind to her. Unfortunately for her, she was prone to sensory overloads which caused nausea, headaches, and in some extreme cases, intracerebral haemorrhaging. The latter had never occurred, but it was a possibility. She hoped it never became reality. They practised all sorts of martial arts at the monastery, restricted to kung fu, of course, but there was a massive variety that allowed her to be able to fight against other styles and make sure she didn't fall stagnant from fighting a single opponent or style again and again. Tsubaki would surely benefit from them, if not from their power, then from their techniques and fighting ability. After her explanation, she noted that Tsubaki had gone quiet, making her briefly wonder what she was doing, but she eventually concluded that she was probably just thinking over her words; people often did that, used to others seeing their expressions and such, only to suddenly realise Bai was blind and therefore couldn't see their faces. At Tsubaki's next words, Bai smiled and shook her head, "I wouldn't say that... I've received their support for a long time and only now chose to leave for travel. I only returned here for prayers and rituals." She said to her.
When told she could ask anything about Tsubaki, she seemed a bit surprised, "Are you truly comfortable with that? You needn't extend the offer out of politeness if you don't want to." She said to her.

Upon hearing answer from the shrine maiden the swordswoman wondered if she Was just being modest. It's a trait often preached when she was younger and she imagined it was moreso when it comes to people with religious background. Personally however, she find the trait to be good enough to keep herself in check but not so when it interfere with herself in self-confidence. She would never brag about her capability to everyone in the vicinity but she wouldn't go out of her way to downplay them either. Still, to choose now to travel...perhaps she had come of age and was granted so by her guardians. "I see. Hopefully you will find whatever you seek at the end of your journey." She wasn't quite sure what religious motivated folks would look for....Salvation? Enlightenment? Regardless of which it was and though she was curious it was not her business to know. Thus she leave it at that and let Liang Bai expand further should she felt the need to. Now to address the other inquiry posed towards her while she mull over the purpose of her journey. "Politeness has nothing to do with it. It is just to pass time while we wait for the rain to stop."That statement was not completely true but if she were to be honest she couldn't find anything else to ask without things getting too personal. The number of friends she has could be counted on one hand and more often than not what they talked about would be deciding how to tackle the bounties they took or the training regiment they were about to practice. Thus in a way, this is a welcoming change of pace for once. "If there is nothing you wished to ask that is fine with me as well. The sound of rainfall is quite soothing to one's ears."If Liang Bai had turned out to be less chatty earlier, she would have chosen to meditate with the rainfall as her background. It would get her into a proper mindset for once she arrive at this Shaolin dojo she speak of. The swordswoman folds her arms across her chests as she leaned back on her chair, her eyes wondering towards the staff Liang Bai wielded, wondering if it served as a weapon. Against her sword, the staff would have better reach. Perhaps that could serve as a hint on what kind of style they practiced at the dojo. WC:411 Liang Bai

Though modesty had been a trait instilled within her, and one that she had, she didn’t feel she was being modest here. She genuinely did not attribute much of her being able to live normally to herself, but to the people that helped her while she had not yet adapted, and to the Shaolin monks who taught her how to sense ki and use echolocation, or at least a primitive form of it. For these reasons, she mostly associated her abilities with them rather than herself. One thing was for certain: she’d be dead without them. “What I seek…” She repeated idly, seeming lost in thought for a moment, before snapping back to attention, “Oh, I apologise.” She said quickly, back to paying attention to her. Listening to Tsubaki speak made Bai nod, “I see. If that’s the case, then I suppose that’s sound reasoning.” She said, thinking for a bit before asking her a question that had been on her mind ever since she mentioned fighting, “Why do you choose to fight?” She paused a bit, “What motivates you to keep training and becoming stronger? Is it simply a desire to grow strong and be the best, or is it something else?”After naught but a few moments, she’d hastily add, “I apologise if this is too personal. You needn’t answer me if you don’t want to.”Bai chose not to speak too much about herself at this point, for she felt it rude to do so. Just talking about yourself in a conversation was impolite and self-absorbed, and something she avoided doing. As far as she was concerned, the focus of the conversation had been on her for too long, and so she chose to shift it. She just hoped Tsubaki didn’t feel too uncomfortable being asked questions like this.

Why does she choose to fight? The shrine maiden posed a good question. Often she find herself too busy with her practice that she lost track of her goal in first place. In order to overcome the steep wall she's facing, it was necessary for her to return to the roots. "I desire to best my father."That was the reason why she trained hard in first place. She had witness him show the Saiyan transformation and in front of such overwhelming power difference she couldn't help but be awed. She could still remember how the battle went completely one-sided after the transformation. But was that the reason why she fought in first place? No, she remembered the reason she strive in order to surpass him was a little less shallow than that. "Twas a test he set for me. If I were to inherit our family's dojo I would have to overcome him."She remembered now. The reason why she intended to beat him in first place. For so long her mind was always focused on getting stronger than that man that she had forgotten why she would need that much strength in first place. "I hailed from a family who passed down martial arts for generations. In ancient times, my ancestors were warriors. Now we are naught but practitioners and teachers of self defense."the swordswoman explained towards Liang Bai. It was a story she had heard from her mother when she was young. While her friends of her age play dolls and houses, she spent her childhood swinging her wooden sword. "Once I grew strong enough to beat him, my journey ends there. I will settle down somewhere to set a school of my own."She heard that in order to become skilful with a sword one must become one with their weapon. Though she still had some distance to go before she could say that she was skilled with one, she couldn't picture herself ever letting go of the swords. Thus mentally at least, she would think she had already achieve that. WC:346 Liang Bai

Losing your way was indeed very easy to do. Bai herself knew this, with how much training she did, forgetting why she set out to become strong in the first place. However, she was confident that the Tao would bring her to the right path. She felt her calling, and she would follow it. And then, Tsubaki responded. A desire to best her father was what she had. The woman explained her reasoning for this, how she needed to overcome him in order to inherit the family dojo. It was certainly a good reason to fight, and having a concrete objective in mind often helped as a motivating factor in life. She further explained how her family used to be warriors in ancient times, but now were merely teachers of self-defence. She briefly wondered how Tsubaki felt about that. It certainly wasn't as grandiose a standing as it was in the past. What she then heard from Tsubaki took her aback. She would grow stronger than her father and... that was it? Her journey ended there? Strength was something Bai always sought, whether consciously or subconsciously, so hearing that someone planned on stopping after reaching a certain objective was something she had a hard time wrapping her head around. "I see." Bai said, being careful to keep her tone neutral. It wasn't her life, and thus, she had no right to judge Tsubaki's decisions. Bai wondered whether Tsubaki would have a different objective in time, or if she herself would have her sights set on something else. Only time would tell. She thought on this for a few moments... but then realised that if she had been told of her life story, it was only fair that Tsubaki get to hear hers as well. She wondered if she'd talk too much about herself, or something of the sort, but decided to go for it anyway. She couldn't think of much else to talk about. "... My objectives are less... tangible than yours, and dare I say, sound a bit silly when I say them out loud." She began, "The people in my order believe in being passive and letting others go their way, but I feel they ignore one key factor. That is, that they also have a way to follow. Sitting idle and meditating is good, but I feel that the call to act is something the Tao gives us as well. I always enjoyed fighting, and I've always had a desire to..." This was a bit embarrassing, " ... fight evil and those who would stop those from going their way. I believe that is my calling." She finalised. She really hoped it didn't sound too cheesy.
