Tool Town was not a big village, but it wasn't small either it was like a suburb but farther away from the city. That didn't stop them from being up to date on the latest technologies. Crime very rarely happens, and there aren't any monsters or dinosaurs nearby causing them trouble. Things have been pretty peaceful in this little out of the way oasis. Although all of that is about to change soon.
It all started when a man bought the keys to an old storage unit that was auctioned off for years but no one would be willing to buy them and found a vast treasure trove of many old relics. From old computer models, parasols, cabinets, appliances, even an old arcade machine. The storage unit hasn't been open in a few hundred years. This man managed to spend 100 Zeni on this unit, and he's going to make more then enough back if he sold it to the right people. He closed the storage unit forgetting to lock the unit back up as he was in a rush to get work after rummaging through the junk to see everything that was inside it.
The next day however the man found everything in the storage unit he bought was gone. He called this in to the police naturally but they couldn't find any fingerprints but did notice many scuff marks coming from the unit as if people moved some of the more heavier items by dragging them somewhere. Although they noticed the scuff markings were inconsistent as if the burglars kept picking the object back up, and then set it down and dragged it for a bit before picking it up again. And even after following the trail they managed to lose it in the woods. They somehow managed to cover and clean up their tracks without a trace.
Then things have been getting stranger. The power for the town keeps flickering on and off on it's own. Various acts of vandalism also happen as people report someone has broken into their house and broke their VR headsets, their plasma screen tv's, their latest C-Phones, and other things they have bought. This is especially odd cause why break into people houses and break the things that would normally be stolen? Is it someone trying to send a message that technology is bad or some hippie crap like that?
Then people have been making reports of seeing strange glowing figures while walking in the night. While all of the reports saying that they were made of light some say that they looked like an alien, another said it was a ghost, another said it was a cartoon character but 2d. Of course there was the possibility of it being a prank played with holograms, but this town doesn't have access to this technology so why in Kami's name would someone come all the way here to spook people with holograms? It's not like this town had some secret hidden treasure or something for some goons to try to scare them off so they can take it before being unmasked by some group of snooping adolescent detectives and their wacky animal sidekick. Speaking of which now that their TV's and computers are broken they can't be able to watch that show anymore sadly.
It was then that some keys for the other storage units were stolen and more century old items went missing. Brand new appliances begin to act up as well. Something ran over several hovercars with what looked like tire tracks over them. Reports of surprise licks from various people who turned around only to see an old umbrella with holes in it being blown away by the wind , which was especially strange cause it was not even a windy day there was just a sudden gust as soon as they turned around. Sounds of footsteps as if someone is following them at night but they never see who is following them.
These reports spread like wildfire as they begin to spread out of town to various places around Earth from people who were visiting the town to see their relatives. And eventually the news got to the ears of a certain feline martial artist who decided that something more mystical was taking place in this town that couldn't be done with technology. It took him not long to get there with his speed, and he could feel that something otherworldly was happening to the town. So far no one has gotten hurt, but Will is going to make sure it stays that way. As he walked around the town in the light of the moon and stars he walked through the street hoping to run into one of these strange sightings to figure out what is behind this.

"Huh? What do you mean all the electronics in town are on the fritz?"
And to think, the only reason Beat came through here was because he was tracking down a lead on a certain notorious gang. What could be making ALL the electronics in one place act up like this? Sure, Beat figured he was kind of on a timetable here, but his magic could fix any technological issues pretty easily, surprisingly. He only needed to take a look at some of the old crud, and he figured he could fix it pretty easily with the use of a spell or two.
A gruff, short old man was the one to warn him of all the strange happenings going on, and judging by the his car filled to the brim with all sorts of luggage, he had finally had enough of all the stupid things going on.
"If you don't believe me, fine, but it's your funeral. God damn it, I'm gonna have to move in with that jackass brother of mine until these malfunctions blow over. When I can't even wash my damn clothes in my washing machine, I've had enough!"
"Huh? It's not that I don't believe you, it's just kind of a shocker, y'know?"
He could actually sense the electrical malfunctions of the devices going on. It was strange so many of them were going off at once! Did an EMP go off somewhere?
"You guys here any bombs go off around here or something? That might be the reason why your stuff is going crazy!"
"I'll be completely honest, I have nooo fucking idea. I ain't too good with the technology stuff, but I heard that a few delinquents have been going around vandalizing stuff. Might be worth a shot looking into it."
"Don't worry, I'll have this town under control!"
"Pfft, good luck."
And with that, he drove off while Beat continued his way into town. Things couldn't be that bad, right? Plenty of people seemed to be going about their normal day, but Beat noticed that they were doing absolutely weird(by today's standards, anyways) things like washing their clothes in baskets!
Damn, that old guy was serious when he said the washing machines are messed up...
"Whew, I'm glad I don't live here. If none of my new stuff was working, I'd go crazy! Imagine not having any social media for a day..that's like being locked up in prison for life."
As he began looking for clues around the village for the origin of all this mess, a piercing wail rang through the skies, disrupting Beat's train of thought. The frightened civilians immediately fled for their lives, while Beat stayed his ground and took up his stance.
Pwooosh! Pew! Pew! Pew!
A seven feet tall suit of advanced battle armor flew through the skies, lasers raining down on the crowd of civilians until it decided to land right in front of him. Even if it couldn't make any expressions because it was armor, he could still somehow feel a piercing gaze at his soul. The flying armor also sported a sword made out of hardened light, fresh with the crimson stain of blood.
"Something's telling me you're not the soul of my ancestors wishing me luck for the future, are you?"
I can't sense anything living inside of that armor, but..I can sense something for sure. What exactly is it? Could it be the cause of the malfunctions going on?
But, those were questions best saved for after he defeated this thing. The mysterious armor charged in with reckless abandon, brandishing its massive sword with a single hand, aiming to cleave Beat in half.
"Sorry, I don't plan on dying any time soon!"
Even though he primarily fancied himself a magician now, he could never part with his swords and fists completely. Drawing his newly crafted blade swiftly, he managed to block the knight's attack before meeting his untimely demise, leaving cracks in the ground from the clash of two evenly matched opponents.
"Whew, this thing is way stronger than I figured. It's time for me to even the playing field!"
With his free hand, he quickly drew a circle of magic in the air, its cerulean glow shining off of the soldier's armor.
"Water Style: Shredding Vortex!"
A torrent of water erupted from the circle, sending the cursed armor through a stone wall with its force.
"Yeah, now that's what I'm talking about! Now time for me to finish this off!"
A series of handsigns were quickly weaved while the "ghost" was still reeling from the attack, giving Beat ample time to prepare another attack.
"Lightning Style: Electrical Transmission!"
Several bolts of intense, crackling lightning rained down upon the monster, the spell's overall effectiveness only increased further due to the conductivity of water, leaving the battle armor as nothing more than a smoldering crater, completely vaporized in the aftermath of the combined techniques.
"..Uh, woah, that did a lot more damage than I expected. Might've went a little overkill, now I don't even have the chance to investigate the armor.."
But, before he could finish lamenting the loss of a potential lead, a thick smog gathered over the crater before finally taking the form of a beady, red-eyed, shadow like creature.
"YOU! You think you can stop the punishment the people of this town deserve? You think you can throw us out like outdated toys and get away with it!? Well you're a fool! You may have defeated me, but you'll never stop the rest of my brethren from getting our justice we have in store..we'll rip this place to shreds! I curse you and your family a thousand times over!"
And just as soon as it appeared, it faded away with quite the bone-chilling screech.
"Man, he gave me a bunch of crazy exposition and I'm -still- not sure what the hell is going on. Someone around here has to have answers, right?.."
With the battle finally wrapped up, he began to continue onwards in his search for more clues.

One of the citizens who ran off turned to watch as Beat used his strange powers to beat the strange being. It was like something out of an anime to him. He thought that all of that Ki and magic stuff was fake like wrestling or his ex wife's commitment to their marriage. He then ran up to Beat to congratulate him for saving his life. "Thanks, I didn't expect to be attacked by someone dressed up as an old obscure anime character. Had a working beam sword and everything." the man said. Of course being such an old and obscure anime that Beat would even know he would ask the man what character that is for which the man would over enthusiastically answers. "Wait, you never heard of Just Bots?! It was so awesome! It's about a bunch of robots who fight for justice but the villains are not like monsters or anything they are actual humans and it gets really deep and emotional! However at that time robots were so advanced and plentiful nowadays that the show lost popularity and was cancelled. Thankfully there was a manga before the anime and I have been reading up on it online. That one you fought was the main character, Just Red, although he wasn't my favorite personally I prefered Just Blue-" the man would prattle on and on about an old anime that Beat probably doesn't care about as there are other things for them to be worried of at the moment. Like why and how was an old costume walking around with a working beam and weapons attacking people. And could it have really caused the strange things going on lately, or is it just a symptom of it? Too bad Beat killed it before he could get any useful information out of it, or was it even alive to begin with? Whatever the reason Beat would have to think about these while listening to an old rambling otaku.Perhaps this is why his wife left him in the first place?
Meanwhile in another part of Tool Town Will was still walking in the street lit by the hovering street lamps. It was harder then he thought to let himself be wide open to be attacked. Perhaps the people responsible for this have no malicious intents and are more so being mischievous. Could be a cruel prank someone or something has been playing on this town. Or is there is a more personal reason then just rampant mischief? Will then heard something behind, something he hasn't heard in a long time. He turns around as soon as it stops and he just sees a line of hover cars parked back there. He thought he heard the sounds of a car engine, an old one with wheels like the ones that gang of thugs he faced back in the desert town of Little Burnab. It reminded him of the time there were cars like that in his town before everyone started to use hover cars to get around instead. Times sure have changed since then, if he wasn't defending an entire town from marauders back then he would be feeling nostalgia. He then begin to hear that sound again, he turned to see a parked car again. Although he was quick to notice something peculiar about the car. He quickly turned to pretend he didn't saw anything unusual and calmly walked forward with staff in hand. As soon as he heard the sounds of a car behind him with his ears. He turned around with tremendous speed to punch the car. However, his arm is caught in the grill of the car which caught him like a mouth that closed on his arm. Will then got a better look at the car to see it is an old hot rod with those weird exhaust pipes sticking out of it except these are spouting blue flames which is already a strange sign as flames are usually blue when they are hot enough or when it's associated with spirits. It also had a paint job with hot rod flames as well as a bunch of decals like skulls with sunglasses or little tiny imps. This hot rod seems to be even older then Will if he's being honest, and quite frankly very tacky. Luckily Will had another arm free to punch the hot rod off of him that was "biting" down on him. It's grill was damage but it managed to repair itself, just then what appeared to be a completely white arm stuck out of the driver's seat window that rolled down. "HEY YOU! We claimed this turf first! I don't know what you want to do bakeneko, but we're busy here busting people's cars!" the voice within the car said. Will had no idea what the voice meant by Bakeneko, or what that means. "I'm just here to investigate what's happening and stop it. You must be responsible for the destroyed cars. You're going to have to answer for your crimes or I could just beat you two up." Will said. The white arm then clenched it's fist as it's pointed forward as if telling the car to go forward. Will dodged just barely, it was fast, abnormally fast even for a hot rod. Will could definitely sense something strange from this care, two presences in fact. One must be within the car itself and the other in the driver's seat. Will keeps dodging the cars attempts to hit it as he keeps jumping over it, as every time he tries to hit the car it swerves out of Will's way. Revving up the hot rod from hell then stayed in place for a bit like a bull ready to charge, Will proceed to put up a defensive stance. The car charged with tremendous speed as it shot out flames like jet engines as it speeds towards Will. As it appears to Will rush to the right to get out of the way it appeared as if he was hit. The voice within the car lets out a laugh. Then Will reappears on the hood of the car kicking at down at it with tremendous force. Will used his newly learned After Image technique to make it look like he was run over by the ghoulish road hog as the car was skidding to a stop. Will jumped off as the car crashed into a tree. Will then investigated the crash to find a plastic white arm that seemed to have belonged to what was yelling to him from the driver seat of the hot rod. It had no joints so it wasn't a robot arm or prosthetic. When Will was wondering how it moved he got slapped by the stub of the arm that would be connected to the shoulder as it wiggles free and crawls away with it's fingers. As Will attempts to follow the car gets in the way as it goes through a sort of transformation as it's grill become a more defined mouth and it's headlight turn into glowing eyes. No doubt about it now, Will is handlign with spirits here! And he's going to have to play exorcist.

On any other day, he'd be willing to listen to a weeb's nonsense. Unfortunately for this rambling anime fan, today was -not- one of those days. When you were dealing with freaky technology that was running amok and even -killing- people, you didn't tend to have time to talk about the latest shows. So while his mouth was moving a mile a second, Beat discreetly disappeared from his view with blinding speed, giving him some much needed time to mull over what was going on so far and search the town for some more clues.
"If I was Sherlock Holmes' dumb brother, even I could see that whatever is going on in this town, it's definitely magical in nature! But, knowing what type of creature in particular I'm dealing with would make things go a lot more smoother.."
With that said, he snapped his fingers, a small little portal spawning a thick, dusty old book in the palm of his hands. Blowing the dust off of its cover, he flipped through the pages.
"Zombies, Vampires, no..Book: Find me an entry for monsters that are fueled by revenge and can possess things!"
A purple aura surrounded the book as it rapidly flipped through its pages at blinding speeds before finally coming to a stop.
"Sir, given your search criteria, I've narrowed it down to two primary entities; Specters or Yokai. Given the magical signatures around the area, I'd say it would be wise to assume it's Yokai causing these problems."
"Greeeeat, and here I thought this was an easy fix! Man, this is gonna be such a pain in the ass.."
Clink! Clink! Clink!
Still on edge with his battle with the amazing, military grade armor, Beat whipped out his sword, only to see an absolutely ancient looking toaster plod over to him.
"Woooah there sonny, no need to kill me. I'm not like the others, I just heard you wanted to fix what was going on, right?"
"Yeeeeeah..? But why would you want to help me? Doesn't all the possessed things want revenge or something?"
The green toasted groaned. That was something he'd never thought he'd see in his whole life, even after being introduced to all this magic stuff.
"No. Me and quite the few others had our hatred for humans because they threw us away like we were trash, but..we've made our peace with that. Unfortunately, my brother never could, and he's gotten half our community to go around causing..this! It's disgraceful."
Yokai came in all shapes and sizes, but for someone still new to dealing with monsters, it was surprising to see some with such high intelligence.
"Okay, how can you help me stop him?"
"I know where he's holed himself up. Top floor of the highest building in this town, you can't miss it. Meanwhile, I..I can't stay here anymore. The emotional pain of seeing your family commit such despicable crimes is too much..please, do whatever you have to do to stop him."
The toaster hobbled away, fully intent on leaving this place forever. While he barely had any knowledge on the toaster, he could sympathize with the pain he was feeling.
"Yeah..I'll make sure no one else has to get hurt."
He continued his trek deeper into the city, moving past the crowds of people fleeing from being attacked by their possessed antique appliances. One of those small, remote controlled drones were firing explosives into the crowd, but fortunately for them, Beat was already deflecting them into the air with a few wind spells, where they exploded harmlessly in the sky.
"Oo, looks like this human has a little bite in him! I'm gonna kill you to death!!!!"
That didn't make any sense..
In its rage, it fired a hail of bullets that rained down upon Beat, but were swiftly deflected with the use of his sword. Whatever this drone could do, it seemed like none of it was actually capable of harming him! With his free hand, he quickly channeled his mana into it, unleashing a lightning bolt that crackled across the sky and struck the drone directly, causing it to malfunction and fall to the ground in front of Beat harmlessly.
"Crap, crap, crap! What the hell did you do to me!?"
Walking over to the now harmless drone, he chucked it into the air like it was a ball, catching it effortlessly.
"I short circuted your systems, rendering the item you're inhabiting useless. Thanks to you and your little friends' wonton destruction, I don't think you have anything to possess either."
"YOU BASTARD! I'LL KILL YOU!"
"Nah. You're gonna answer all my questions like a nice little robot or else I'm gonna turn you into scrap, got it? Now I've encountered a flying suit of armor, a toaster, and you..what type of item is your boss possessing?"
"Nyehehe, it's gonna be amazing! It's a massive, twenty foot tall antique armor made up of all the crap they threw away, capable of firing all types of weapons, and when it's fully charged, he'll blow this entire town to smithereens along with you pathetic humans that cast us aside for the latest new gadget! I can't wait to watch you go up in fla-"
The Yokai was quickly interrupted by Beat crushing the drone in its grip, freeing an imp-like creature that scurried out of the remains of what it controlled, running for its life. But, it was simply too slow, as a small wave of flames rendered it nothing more than a pile of ash quickly swept up by the natural breeze flowing through the area.
"Some monsters are the worst.."
While he had no problem killing your usual monsters like skeletons and harpies, even killing something as despicable as this Yokai shook him up a little.
"Alright dude, focus. No one's gonna think of you as any less of a person for vaporizing someone that supports wholesale genocide..gotta find the tallest building, right.."
Gathering himself, he headed out towards the center of the town, where the tallest building lied: a recycling factory.
"Looks like the murderous machine has a sense of humor.."
