So this is what a true loss felt like. After losing to Thast, he thought he could brush off the pain of defeat like water sliding off of his back, but that was merely a friendly bout. Losing to vile scum like Tempo though was a whole other thing; it sickened Beat to the bottom of his stomach that he could ever lose to someone as disgusting and thuggish as a gang leader. It made him feel as if all his training was for nothing, that his dreams of being this planet's greatest hero was a sick, twisted joke. For the first time in his life, he almost felt like giving up.
But, what would that solve other than proving him right? What kind of hero would quit when things got a little tough? Instead of using this experience as an excuse to throw in the towel, Beat decided it'd be best to use it to hone his skills and make it a reason to give everything he did a hundred and ten percent. It was why he decided to isolate himself away from his family and friends, deep inside a jungle to get away from any distractions and put his whole focus on training, to learn the one thing that would give him the upperhand against any villain unfortunate enough to face him.
Magic. It was more than just sleight of hand or silly hat tricks, it was a unique form of energy completely separate from ki with far less restrictions on what it could actually do. Sure, the freeform nature of it made it much harder to learn, but that was where his ability to learn things quickly and all the books on magic he gathered during his travels came in. Sure, he could have used a teacher, but unfortunately it was hard to find one on short notice. Not enough people practiced the art as it is, and Beat couldn't be away from the people he cared about forever.
"The books say that beginners should start off trying to manipulate small things filled with life, like rats, or plants. The connection with nature makes them naturally predisposed to the effects of magic, so let's give it a spin!"
He raised his palm in the direction of a small plant, clearing his mind of any distractions. A faint, green aura emanated from his body alongside a low hum produced by the aura. The same glow surrounding him found itself on the bundle of vines as well, as they slowly grew a few inches as a time.
A simple growth spell..of course, I'm nowhere near bringing it out to its full potential, and even by beginner standards I still suck at it, but, baby steps Beat. It's your first try after all.
A few minutes later and the vines managed to grow about two feet. But, at this point he was at his limit with the spell and his control over the plants were swiftly broken, beads of sweat dripping down his face.
"Holy crap, that's way more effort than I've put into any ki attack, even when I was first starting..man, there's gotta be a spell a little less taxing for beginners, right?"
Unfortunately, it seemed as though the Growth spell was as easy on his reserves as it was going to get. Groaning in annoyance, he took a stance of meditation to help speed up the process of recovering his mana.
I can meditate to draw in some of the latent mana from living things around me like plants and animals. I can even convert the excess mana into ki energy so I definitely on't be tiring out as easy anymore. It'll defintely be hard to pull off in battle though, especially at this rate.
Sure, he eventually managed to restore his reserves in a few minutes, but who was going to afford him such luxury in the midst of battle? He had a few seconds to pull off a quick recovery, or he definitely was gonna be eating a nasty attack.
Right after getting his reserves restored, he went back to practicing the Growth spell repeatedly. After all, practice made perfect.
He just wished that he could get to the breathing fire part faster..and that he didn't come to a damn jungle only wearing a kilt made out of leaves.

The Black Hawk - Earth's AtmosphereComing down from space was a relatively small space ship, large enough to maybe house a dozen people within itself. It didn't require that many to actually utilize it, however, as only one actual person was inside of it. Slowly, it begins descending towards Earth, its projected landing area being somewhere near South City. Deciding to leave the rest to the autopilot, the lone individual decides to get out of the cockpit, climbing down a short ladder into his de facto quarters. With just a small cot, a crate containing emergency capsules, and a mini fridge by the head of the bed, it was meager, but it worked well enough for travelling around. "Man, I hate picking up groceries..." Flopping onto the bed, the man gazes wistfully towards their fridge, knowing that it was nearly empty by this point. Being a Half-Saiyan, they go through an exorbitant amount of food, especially with how intensely they push themselves in their training, so little pit stops like these were frequent for him. He easily had the money to afford all of this, but the effort of going to a supermarket, filling up a couple shopping carts full of food, getting cooling capsules to contain them all in, and going through all of the lines was just a maddening effort. It was just so much to do compared to when he lived on a farm, being able to simply provide some green for himself and hunting for meats. Maybe he should make his own farm sometime? "Ehh, that'd be a lot of effort...Ahh well, we're probably landing soon."Slowly shifting off of the cot and picking their wallet up off of the top of the fridge, they start making their way towards the the front of the ship, the cramped hallway flanked with a couple of smaller rooms, as well as his training area. Just a few hours ago, he had been spending some time under 150 times Earth's natural gravity. A perfect way to start his day, no doubt. Now approaching an actual land mass, the ship begins to slow its descent, rocking slightly as it does so. Slowly, it approaches what seems to be a jungle, full of fauna and flora of all kinds, and conveniently not all that far away from South City. Was just a quick little flight away. Managing to find a bit of a clearing, the ship touches down to the ground, landing gear deploying from it to support itself. At the same time, a staircase begin to lower itself out of the front of the ship, a Human-looking man clothed in simple city clothes making their way out of it. "Ahh, well here we are. Don't think I've ever been around this area, come to think of it. Didn't even think Earth had a jungle down here."Words: 477 Total: 477 Tags: Beat

"C'mon you stupid spell, you're not going to get the best of me this time!"
Beat wasn't sure how long he'd been practicing this spell, but it sure felt like a long enough period of time passed by. Hours? Days? Okay, maybe he was going a little overboard in his paranoia. He definitely would've been hungry by now and forced to hunt some fish to sustain himself.
But, ignoring his confusion on the passage of time, Beat was actually doing pretty good for himself when it came to perfecting the Growth spell. Its effects were getting more potent with each use, and he was finding himself learning more and more on how to properly regulate the flow of his mana from his body to the actual techniques, meaning it was getting less and less stressful on his reserves.
"Man, when this is all said and done, I better be able to turn everyone I come across into a piece of cheese. Especially Tempo..let's see him brag about his stupid little Lion Gang if he can't speak! And with any luck, I might be able to recover some of the money he stole too.."
During his time practicing the spell, he learned that the mana surrounding his body was actually a -bad- thing, especially for a technique of a lower level like this one. It meant that he was using way too much mana, and in the field of magic, it was more about -how- you used your reserves more than how much you had. He eventually managed to reduce the green aura surrounding him all the way to just around his hands.
"Alright, what's next on the list..?"
Perusing through the pages, something eventually caught his eye and drew his attention immediately.
"Wait, I've been doing it wrong this whole time!? Dammit, no wonder it feels like I've been running laps around the whole planet.."
Apparently, it was recommended for magicians to find a way to channel their magic into something, whether it was through a chant, an enchanted item, or even a variety of hand movements. Doing otherwise meant whatever they were trying to do would be far more taxing on the reserves, which obviously wasn't good if Beat planned on fighting a brick wall like Tempo.
"Should I cast my spells by speaking in some weird latin? Nah, I've seen all the comics and anime. They just throw something in your mouth and bam! No more powerful techniques for you. You'd really think heroes would start wearing a mouthguard or something..and moving my hands around like I'm doing jazz hands looks ten times cooler anyways. That ninja anime does it all the time! The only problem is memorizing all the handseals.."
Luckily for him, he had a pretty acute memory. Sure, it'd take a few tries, but eventually he figured it'd be as easy as breathing.
"Alright, so the guide says as a general rule, the more complex a magical technique it, the more seals it'd require. So, I should be able to pull off this one with only one..man, magic has a lot more rules than just shooting out a few ki blasts out of your ass."
Clasping his hands together, he focused on manipulating the latent magical energies around him to accelerate the growth of the vines once more. It was a completely different feeling than just forcing spells out of himself; for once, it felt like he was truly connected to the nature around him, and it was a far less taxing ability on his body than before. Even the efficiency of the technique was increased by quite the decent margin, surprising Beat at the difference.
"Whew, unless I become an almighty wizard, remind me to never forget to use my handsigns again.."
While he was about to get back to his training, he sensed a very powerful presence nearby that completely dwarfed him. Unsure of whether it was friend or foe, he immediately put himself on guard and went closer to its source.
"It figures I got luck like this..in the middle of my epic training arc, too! I swear I've got some cursed place on me that attracts bad luck. I wouldn't be surprised if a super villain is here to obliterate me off the face of the planet! Well, I better go figure out what his plan is.."
But, as he combed through the jungle's overgrowth, he came across a person thought he'd never see in a thousand years up so close. His eyes were filled with awe, as much as a little kid thinking they've seen Santa Claus for the first time.
Man, of COURSE he's here when I'm wearing this stupid ass kilt..
"Y-You're Etohn.."
Back in High School, even whispering this dude's name would make every girl within a five mile radius faint. Every guy wanted to be him, and of course, none had that desire more than Beat. All the confidence and bravado that Beat usually carried about him completely melted away. He wouldn't dare call himself a hero in this man's presence, a man who saved an entire planet's population. This was a man that would have disposed of Tempo in a fraction of a second.
"I-I'm sorry you've got to see me in this dumb kilt, it's just, I've been practicing my magic and a Shaman told me wearing this would help me develop a connection to nature..aw geez, you're probably on a super important mission and I'm distracting you."
He gave him a short bow.

Cleaning out his ear with his pinky and flicking the wax he digs out aside as he steps down the staircase, Etohn begins to make his way away from his ship, the walkway rising back up and sealing his ship closed behind him. Since he was out in the middle of nowhere, it was pretty unlikely that somebody would try to enter it anyways, so there was no real point in wasting energy cloaking it, either. "Now, probably should start heading to South City...Man, how long has it been since I've gone there? A couple years? I think it was when I fought that one Saiyan that blew up a building...Or was that East City? Can't even remember now..." Just as he was about to take off into the air, a voice calls out his name from the underbrush, prompting the Half-Saiyan to freeze on the spot, his eyes whipping towards the source of the sound. Clothed only in weaved grasses and appearing to be a Human, they stare at him, shock clear upon their features. Giving a sigh of relief, he relaxes his body and gives the person some time to say whatever it was they wanted to. It wasn't rare for him to be recognized, and he did somewhat enjoy the attention he got from his notoriety. It seems like this guy was a fan of Etohn, too, based on how quick they were to try apologizing to him for interrupting him. Something that did catch his attention, though, was him mentioning that he was out here as per the instructions of a shaman. "Hey buddy, calm down there. I'm just trying to get some groceries...Guess that's kinda weird to say, since I'm in a random jungle, but I was just about to head out to South City. I'm not in any rush, though." Walking towards the man, Etohn continues, "If I heard you correctly, you said you're practicing magic? I actually learned some from a guy that I've heard called a shaman a while back. Was actually stuck on a jungle planet for a while and had to learn from him to survive there." Etohn's time on Shizen probably wasn't documented at all, given how remote the planet was and how your average person would have been torn to shreds. "If you'd like, I can give you some pointers. I'm not the best at the basics, but I've got some pretty cool tricks I've picked up along the way."Words: 415 Total: 892 Tags: Beat

Was he hearing this right, or was this some type of severe delusion messing with his head?
"Y-You want to help me out? For real!? No way.."
It took him a few moments to gather himself from the excitement of the world's greatest hero taking such a strong interest in him, but he eventually managed it.
"Oookay, so, like, the only spell I've practiced so far is this one where it makes things grow a few inches more, but I kind of want to move on to something else that makes things explode. The best defense is a good offense, right?"
First time trying a new technique, don't screw this up in front of your idol, man!
"Uh...? Abracadabra!"
His hands weaved together quick, intricate movements before a bolt of lightning erupted from his fingers. It seemed Beat was finally starting to get a hang of this whole magic thing, but unfortunately, the spell quickly fizzled out before it could even move a few feet away from him.
"Yeah, this is like, completely different from using ki, know what I mean? I thought I could get this down and mastered within a few hours, buuut, it's definitely not looking that way. Maybe this spell was a little too hard for beginners and I should go and try something else?"
Okay Beat, second chances for everything! What's something that involves a liiittle less skill..
Again, his hands moved around so fast that it would appear as a blur to the common observer, a dark purple aura surrounding his palms.
"Shazam!"
A brief gust of wind exploded from his mouth, but unfortunately, that too ended up petering out pretty quickly. He definitely was nowhere near combat ready with his spells, and if he tried to fight the Lion Gang like this, he'd just end up getting his ass kicked again.
"Y-Yeah, seems like I'm not so hot with any offensive techniques yet. Y'know, I always imagined myself becoming this amazing hero like you are. I'm out there fighting as much crime as I can sir, but recently..I took a pretty embarrassing loss. Gotta improve myself as much as I can so that never happens again. I've got family that wouldn't want to see me six feet under."
He had his doubts that such a perfect hero like Etohn could understand what he was going through, but just talking about the painful experience he went through at least helped him rest his nerves a little.
"Stupid Lion Gang..yeah, I bet that jerk Tempo patted himself on the back real hard when he came up with -that- name. Once I get a hang of this stuff, I'm gonna kick his ass so hard he'll have to rename his little posse to the Kitten Gang!"
Beat would try his best to absorb any knowledge Etohn was willing to fork over, while at the same time trying his hardest to make sure these spells were coming out right. His mother always told him that repetition was the best type of practice, after all.

"Haha, yeah sure. Ain't every day I find a guy sitting alone in a jungle trying to make plants grow with his mind," he chortles, leaning up against a nearby tree. From how it sounded, this guy was barely even a novice at magic, though they were already talking about trying to move onto bigger things, like casting offensively powerful spells. Already knowing how that would turn out, Etohn would sit back and passively watch as they futilely attempted it. Trying to conjure lightning and wind with grandiose hand movement, the Human failed, as expected, getting just small sputters of both in his attempts. However, after trying to show off, they finally cracked from what had pushed them to attempt this, explaining that they had some trouble with a gang and were actually afraid of dying to them. They were just somebody trying to be a hero that got a bit of a rude awakening one day, it seemed. How familiar, that was... "Aight, calm down there buddy. Nobody can just be like me on a whim. It takes hard work, it takes training, it takes talent...and it takes failures, too." Pushing himself off of the tree, Etohn walks over to Beat, standing a short distance in front of him and turning to the side. "I failed a lot when I first started out. I thought was tough, and I tried to fight a Super Saiyan during my first time off of Earth," he says. As he began his story, Etohn's right leg would slowly slide back, his knees bending slowly as he grounds his stance. "Got my ass beat, but I didn't learn. After that, found some pretty strong Human on Earth. I'd gotten a bit stronger, so I thought I would try my luck. Got beaten in 5 seconds." Closing his eyes, Etohn begins to slowly breath in through his nose, his arms extending as he rolls his shoulders, his limbs relaxed as they are held in front of him. His elbows begin to bend as he brings his palms close together, his fingers interlocking as he begins to clasp his hands together. "Even when I started doing some kinda impressive stuff after countless failures, I still had to keep on failing to grow. It's because of that that my right arm ain't nothing but a realistic prosthetic."A bright, blue glow would begin encompassing his hands, and ever so slowly, he'd begin to separate them again, mystical energies clinging to his hands tightly as he begin to bring them to his sides, elbows bent at a perfect 90 degrees and his fists tightly clenched. "I wouldn't be where I am if I didn't lose. It hurts, and it will only ever get worse in life, but that..."With no warning, both of his arms would piston forward, and as his arms reached their full lengths, for a moment nothing would occur. A few seconds pass until the deafening sound of wood snapping apart would fill the air, a torrent of wind blasting out from his fists as they tore the mighty jungle trees out from their roots and casted them aside like match sticks. A gash through the ground was formed as the air blasted it out of its way, extending far, far away. One couldn't even tell from how much of the fallen foliage blocked their sight from where Etohn struck, but the extremely distant sounds of wood snapping apart would signal the baffling range of this attack. "...is how we grow." With a content sigh, he rises back up to his full height, returning his gaze to Beat. "So, did ya notice how it looked practically like martial arts, how I powered up that spell? That's because the philosophies between magic and ki manipulation aren't as different as you'd guess. It's all about your control, just one is over yourself, while the other is over what's around you. From how strong you feel, you probably are pretty comfortable in ki. Whoever tried to teach you was probably someone who's purely a magician, and while what they say works for them, sometimes you've gotta find your own way to do things, which I can help you with."Quickly stepping over towards one of the nearby trees, Etohn would knock upon its trunk, continuing with, "Y'see this? I wanna see you shoot it with a ki blast, but do barely enough force to blast some of the bark off. That'll help you get the control over your own energy, which is the easy part." Using his other hand, he touches a tree right next to it. "Then, going from there, we're gonna have you use this tree's energy instead of your own. Just gotta reach out with your mana and have it grow out to strike the other one. Instead of trying to do it like a wizard would, though, try to do it like you would. I, personally, would use some mana and have it make it held the tree do what it would already, by making a huge branch just bunch through the other one. Since magic's all about manipulating stuff to do things, the easiest thing to do is just make them do what they already want to, and trees love to get big, wide branches to get more sunlight, y'feel? This is all gonna be tiring, but so long as you do things how you like to do them, while also making the energies your mana manipulates do what they want to do, it'll work. Trust me."Words: 925 Total: 1817 Tags: Beat

To think, someone as great as Etohn even knew what the meaning of failure was..Beat would be lying if he said it didn't help motivate him to grow further. Truth be told, he always thought that the whole "losing repeatedly helps you grow further" was kind of sappy crud to help people that sucked in life not give up completely.
Well, I'm not about to go on a losing streak just for fun, but it's nice to know that me getting my ass kicked by Tempo doesn't completely disqualify me from becoming a legendary hero some day. I only hope I can manage to get the hang of this magic schtick eventually..I mean, if he can't teach me properly, is anyone capable?
As Etohn finished his story of how he came from nothing and went to something, he then went on to demonstrate his own expertise in the area of magic. Snap! A powerful gust of wind erupted from his fists, easily shattering the wood it came across. It continued on and on for quite some time, and it was clear even to the most uneducated of observers that he was pretty good with spells; far better than Beat was as well.
He absorbed all of the instructions and guiding that Etohn was giving, not wanting to look like a failure in front of his idol.
Okay, here goes nothing! Come on, if you can pass a math test with only fifteen minutes of studying, then you can do this!
"Just go ahead and shoot a ki blast, right, not so hard..I've been doing this for a few months now!"
Easy does it on the power, don't obliterate the tree like he said..
His palm faced outward, a small, cerulean, grape sized sphere of ki energy steadily being held inside of his hand.
"Hiyah!"
Chucking it like a baseball, it made a small explosion which blasted off some of the bark, but nothing more.
"Okay, easy part down. Now here's where the "fun" starts.."
Tapping into the energies of other things was what set magic apart from ki. Of course, he'd been practicing doing it early with the simplistic Growth spell, but it was clear he had issues translating that into real offensive prowess.
"Manipulate the branches, huh? Alright, I think I can pull that off.."
Closing his eyes, he began to concentrate, a blue aura surrounding his hands until he could feel a strong connection to the tree right in front of him. While they weren't capable of verbal conversation, it was almost as if Beat and the tree could speak to each other on an emotional level. Magic could get a little trippy like that!
"I can feel it.."
Slowly but surely the branch bent itself to his will, its every movement guided by Beat's thoughts, wrapping itself around another one of its branches and snapping it off with a quick and powerful grip. The effort was a success, but he was definitely drained from all of that, several beads of sweat dripping down his forehead.
"Woah..I don't know how to thank you, dude! Maybe I'm talking crazy, but I might even surpass you in magic one day..do you have any other advice I can follow? I'm willing to do anything. Well, y'know, except blow up planets, but you're a good guy, so you wouldn't ask that anyways unless you're Etohn's evil clone from an alternate dimension's future past- sorry, I went to sleep reading my own fanfiction last night. The jungle is boring."
Beat, why are you a charismatic beast when you're near anyone else, but now you decide to admit you write FANFICTION about this guy!? He must think I'm a total weirdo...

With his part done for now, Etohn would step back, crossing his arms as he awaits Beat's attempt at his challenge. He watches the youth intently, focusing upon their energy control as they begin to charge up their small ki blast. Their power wasn't that high relatively, but their skill was definitely up to par. Without even a small sign of struggling, they formed a perfectly formed orb of their energy and tossed it at the tree. Some of the bark flies away from the force of the blast, though the bare wood beneath seemed unharmed, and this was all from their first try. Man...A bit jealous, honestly. Took me training under one of the strongest Saiyans alive for forever to get a decent level of control over my ki. Let's see how he handles the next part, though.Unable to hide a small smirk, Etohn continues to examine Beat's efforts, watching intently as they allowed their mana to connect to that of the other tree. It immediately seemed to resonate with the man, with them even chiming in with how they felt their connection. So they do have a good grasp over connecting to external energies, then. Their energy's wavering, so it's not sustainable, but they are already able to do this...That is pretty good. With their connection, Beat causes one of the branches to grow outwards and coil around one from the initial tree, exerting just enough force to snap it apart. Dropping into a cold sweat, they were exhausted by the effort, and yet, also successful. This guy had a real aptitude for this stuff, huh? It seemed to breath a second wind into Beat, though, the man quickly asking for further instruction before devolving into excited ramblings. With a slight chuckle, Etohn would shake his head and motion for them to calm down. "Well, I already taught you pretty much everything that I can, really. I may be able to use magic, but I'm not that great with it. Just got a lot raw power I can throw around because of the training I did, but it's pretty much just those fundamentals that I work by."Extending his left arm out to his side, Etohn would lazily hold his hand open, a brief sliver of mana leaking from the palm before vanishing away. In its place, a small portal would form, a gaping void being all that can be seen in it before it would spew out a small dagger, simple in design with a glistening edge. "Most of what I use it for, though, is to pull items out of a lil' pocket dimension I got. It's the same principles as what you just did, though the distance is just way, way greater cuz, y'know, pocket dimensions don't exactly exist in our actual dimension. I connect with it, fulfill it's desire to try and enter an actual dimension, that being ours, and in turn I can pull stuff out of it or put myself into it."Releasing his hold of the dagger, it would quickly fade away again, the small vortex reappearing to swallow it up and leave no trace of it. "'Course, I just use something like that since that's the most I can get out of spells in a fight, really. You've got a lot more talent, though. Heck, if you try applying what you just did there to those offensive spells you tried earlier, you'd probably find that they'd work better now. Learning magic's a lot like climbing huge cliffs before getting to flat plains leading up to the next wall. Even small improvements can make all the difference."Words: 609 Total: 2426 Tags: Beat

Did the most legendary, ultimate hero in the world tell him that he had more potential in the field of magic than he did? If Beat wasn't so focused on keeping himself together, he would have fainted like a school girl right then and there. To think, he had a chance at being better than him at something! Such praise could only motivate him further to push his limits with spell casting to its absolute upper most potential, whether it was him casting roaring bolts of lightning that could vaporize entire planets, or a crippling wave of heat that could make even the most sturdy of men fall over from exhaustion.
"Woah, you have some super high expectations for me..alright, I definitely won't let you down! You'll see my face all over television and the internet for saving people too!"
Maybe Beat's dreams of one day standing next to his favorite hero weren't dreams, as long as he was willing to work towards it. This was definitely gonna be top one in the days he'd remember for the rest of his life! And to think, he thought this jungle was remote enough to the point where he wouldn't have the slightest bit of human contact for a few weeks.
Man, I hope I can meet him in again so he can see how much I've grown! Maybe even get in a spar or two with him...could you imagine how cool I'd beat if I actually beat him!? I'd be swimming in poon, too!
Shaking the perverted thoughts out of his head, he once more began to practice his spells.
"Okay Beat, it's all in the control.."
Now that he was finally starting to have a handle on spells, he was thinking he could go ahead and move on to spells that were a little bit more complex in function.
"Hey, Etohn! Before you go, watch this! Your discussion about pocket dimensions gave me an idea! And, well, a couple of animes too, but you get the point..HUAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"
Cerulean energies flowed around his palm as he slammed it on the ground, a series of markings appearing on the grass in the form of a ritualistic circle.
"NOW RISE, DRAGON!"
A puff of smoke enveloped Beat, quickly dispersing afterwards, revealing him and..
"..C-Crap, that definitely isn't a dragon.."
A cute, fluffy white bunny bounced around before Beat quickly sent it back to wherever it came from with a wave of his hands. While he -was- disappointed he couldn't summon an awesome fire breathing reptile, he was still happy that the summoning circle even worked in the first place. It was something he picked up while reading his books, but he could never pull it off until Etohn came along.
"Might not have been a devastating flying reptilian protector, but it was something. I know magic has a lot of different things you can do with it, and I was thinking I could make summoning one of them! Well..I have to thank you for all your help today."
Tired from even summoning a creature that small, his breath was a little ragged and he shakily picked himself up off of the ground, moving closer to the Saiyan and offering a handshake.
"I hope we meet again one day!"

Man, this guy was pretty confident in himself, promising that they too would rise to fame and glory. Confidence and a drive...Hopefully it would take them far, like it did for the Half-Saiyan. Who knows, maybe they really will make good on that promise of theirs. All it takes to get this far is to fulfill their word, after all. Even when it gets tough, hopefully they'll remember this. "Heh, I'll be sure to watch out for you on the news, and hopefully it's for stuff like you say. Stay out of trouble, and life will go your way, alright?"Wanting to try and show off for Etohn one last time, Beat attempted a summoning spell. Chuckling slightly due to the knowledge he had over spells like that, he would sit back and wait for it to go awry, which it quickly did. What was supposed to be a large, powerful dragon was instead just a cute little rabbit, which was quickly dismissed. "Well, the reason that didn't go correctly is because, just like with other things with magic, the things you want to summon have to be willing to go through the effort in exchange for mana. The best way to go about that is to get an actual contract made between you and what you wanna summon, because then they're more than likely going to accept the call no matter what."Extending his right hand forward, his palm facing upwards, a portal would form upon it and a small, fairy-like creature would rise up from it. "This right here is Sylph. She's not much of a fighter, but they have a lot of very useful spells that they know outside of that scope. They're pretty much the reason I don't really bother with learning a lot of the more simple utility spells, like making food and creating objects from nothing."As a demonstration of this, Sylph would quickly strum their instrument, a picnic basket popping in from a cloud of smoke and gently landing upon the jungle floor. The scent of warm, fresh pastries would resonate from it, indicating its contents. "If you want stuff that can fight, though, you'd probably have to try your hand at binding demons to a contract. Most beings that can be summoned with mana aren't exactly able to keep up with ki practitioners aside from them, and those that can are way, way more difficult to negotiate with. I've only managed to meet one such being before, and they absolutely refused to have a deal with me."Reforming the portal upon his hand, the fairy would bow to Beat and Etohn before descending back down into it. Bringing his hand back to his side, Etohn would give a short wave to Beat. "Well, I think I'll be going, then. Make sure to be good, and make sure you take some breaks every now and again. Training too much like this is...unhealthy. See ya!" With his aura bursting to life around himself, the force of it kicking up a gust of wind issuing away from him, Etohn would rise up into the air, soaring out towards South City. He was dreading the shopping trip, but being able to take some time training somebody and making their day helped make that annoyance of his bother him less. It felt good to be a hero, and it was nice to see more people trying to do the same as he did. Kami knows how much the universe needs people like that. Words: 588 Total: 3014 Tags: Beat

Yet again, Etohn showed his proficiency over magic compared to Beat, summoning a cute fairy looking creature that looked like it stepped right out of an anime. After explaining what she could do and why his summoning spell went wrong, Beat nodded in understanding. He was gonna have to go on a whole new adventure if he wanted an army of monsters, huh? And they just -had- to be demons. Yeah, he knew absolutely nothing about them, but come on, who made deals with demons!?
Well, I guess if Etohn thinks it's safe, I can pull it off on myself. I need anything possible to defeat Tempo..and as long as I can keep them under my control properly, I'm sure I can suppress any of their less savory traits. That's totally not unethical mind control, is it? Nah..they're signing a contract!
He opened up an encyclopedia on demons, browsing through a couple of pages. Just like he figured, most of them wouldn't be so easy to convince them to join his efforts, especially since they were heroic, and most of the stronger ones didn't want anything to do with humans in the first place. After he learned some basic offensive spells, he figured he could go on the search for contracting some demons.
Watching Etohn fly off in an impressive aura, he waved him good-bye like a fangirl.
"Eeee! I'm totally gonna stay out of trouble bro, trouble ain't even in my vocabulary! Unless, like, it's used like.."save those people in trouble!" Tooootally- wait, he's gone..well, guess I can stop my obsession over him and focus on some more spells, so that's good, right? Right."
Clasping his hands together, a viridescent aura surrounded his hands, signifying him channeling mana from the surrounding area into his body.
Control, it's all about control Beat. You can do this..! Let Etohn's faith in you be for a good reason!
"HOWLING WIND SLICER!"
Blowing a strong gust of wind out of his mouth, it easily sliced through a few trees before eventually petering out. Luckily enough, he didn't manage to hurt any animals, but they sure were going ballistic with their screeches of fury. While it was his first usage of the spell, the fundamentals he learned from his teacher helped curb his usage of mana, leaving him much less exhausted than when he first used spells. There was definitely room for improvement like for anything you would do for the first time, but he finally wasn't rendered a useless sack of potatoes like last time!
"Woohoo! I'm gonna kick so much ass with this magical power of mines! I might even fly out of here today, because maaaaan, the insects in the jungles are annoying as hell! Why didn't I bring clothes like a regular person..?"
Lamenting over his stupidity for a few moments, he was completely caught off guard when a band of monkeys angrily flung banana peels at him, clearly upset over their homes being destroyed. While they obviously could do nothing to hurt him physically, he still felt pretty bad about what happened.
"Hey, calm down guys! Let me fix this.."
Placing his palm on the ground, he focused his mana into the soil beneath, the obliterated trees quickly mending themselves. This Growth spell really did come in handy! In no time at all, the primates had their brand new home, and he even improved it a little as compensation. While they were confused, they finally stopped throwing stuff at him.
"Well, time to get out of here before I destroy anything else.."
He looked to the skies, his cerulean aura overtaking him as he flew above the jungle.
"This entire stupid jungle might've given me a thousand insect bites, and who knows HOW many diseases I probably wasn't immunized too, but I'm gonna protect every inch of this planet, so I guess that means this place too! Man, once my friends and family here about how I met the biggest hero this planet's ever seen, they're gonna go crazy!"
With that said, he prepared to fly home, ripping through the skies at mach speeds with ease.
