The gravity chamber whirred. Lute stood in the center of it in only his baggy black pants. Beads of sweat trickled down his brow and pectorals. His torso heaved up and down with exertion. The dial was turned up as high as he could get it without causing issues to the artificial gravitation generators. There were limitations and security protocols in place, frustrating ones. Pushing the generator it too hard would fry the ship's systems and drain the energy core.
Still, Lute was under almost six hundred times Earth gravity. It was enough to crush most creatures into a pulp. For him, it just helped to give him an adequate workout.
He flipped and vaulted through the air, using his ki to propel himself sideways. Panels in the ceiling opened up, a turret unveiling itself and firing bolts of plasma at him. They were nearly impossible to dodge with this much strain on his muscles, yet he did anyway.
He skidded to a stop as one blast almost clipped his calf. Tilting, he swung his hips and snapped his arm forward, firing a retaliatory ki bolt from his finger tip. The turret tucked away just as the blast would have it it, instead bursting against the armored wall panel. Lute hadn't put a lot of power behind the attack, as this was his own ship after all. Last thing he needed to do was break stuff that cost him money and time.
Besides, power wasn't the point of this training session. He was working on his speed and honing his instincts. Lute had never been snappy in a fight. He had always relied on his raw power and his immense aura to shield him from harm. Yet, it didn't hurt to be fast and ready as well. Kamui had shown him that.
Lute, in fact, had been training just for the moment that he got to challenge the Frieza Clansmen again. He wanted to be prepared to keep up with him, to go toe to toe. That fight had cost him a leg and also reputation with his soldiers. Lute knew there were whispers of his defeat among the ranks of the Aetherguard and the elite of Hollow.
This meant doubt and uncertainty in their leader, one they didn't choose in the first place. That wasn't something he couldn't afford his subordinates to feel about him. He had just begun to earn their trust.
Lute needed to kill Kamui. If only to erase the debacle of his defeat,if only to prove to himself that he had what it took. The Demon King had a strong feeling the warrior would show his face during the retrieval of Absolut. And he would be ready this time.
The loudspeaker overhead crackled with sudden sound.
"My lord, Doctor Vex's pod has arrived," the voice of Lord Commander Renvi said.
Lute flicked his wrist, using telekinetic force to pull the lever that turned off the gravity machine. The whirring died down and Lute felt the weight release in an instant. H thought as if he were about to drift off the deck and bounce into the ceiling, without even using his ki to do so. It was mystifying just how buoyant and weightless the body felt in an ordinary artificial gravity field.
The comm channel was still open, so he replied. "Good. Have the Doctor meet me on the bridge."
After a short shower and dressing in his typical attire, the Demon king marched through the bowels of his ship. It was dim and quiet for the most part. He passed quite a few engineering bots that were hard at work on maintenance tasks and upgrades. Lute hadn't hesitated to replace some of his lower ranked staff with the machines. They were tireless and efficient, two key benefits that were hard to argue against.
It's also why he liked Kaijin.
The double doors slid open and Lute strode forward, his boots clicking on the glossy onyx deck. The Vantage's bridge crew were hard at work in their pits and crew stations. Still, the stopped and snapped to attention.
"Doctor Vex. Give me an update on the status of the Slayer bots. Are they ready to go for our operation?"
