Another beautiful summer day was blessing Satan City it seemed. The sun was high above the city heating everyone up. So only a few places were good to be at, any place with water around, or the shopping mall it got a powerful working conditioner system, that made shopping here enjoyable. The mall had everything you needed and was open almost all day, though some of the smaller shops were close and really only bars and clubs were open in midnight. Not that she could enter them. Tomomi was still too young for them, but she really didn’t care about that for now at least. RIght now she wanted to pass the time, maybe bought some new tea to enjoy, or whatever she found that caught her interest. She really liked tea and always tried new flavors, if she found one. Though she really just wanted to be out and somewhere, where it wasn’t too hot.
She went for an hour looking at different shops, until she reached the one that sold porcelain. Yes she also got her own repertoire of tea sets. That may not be the most liked hobby around her peers, but she didn’t care. Tomomi was hardly a normal girl, that said she got no real friend, except that one fellow with glasses. He was a great support for her, that was for sure. Without it she would be too lonely, she guessed, but so it was okay at least.
“That is cute”, she said, as she found a set with some flower design on them. It looked really nice, but she already got one with a similar design, though it seemed to be cheap. For a few moments the girl just looked at them, not able to decide, if she should buy them or not. But it was a set for more than one person, so she probably wouldn’t get the chance to use it. The only other person she knows in this Town was Booklas and he wasn’t the one to come around for some tea, she didn’t get any other friend in town. That was good in some ways, as she had a secret that no one should have found out. Unfortunately one did find out, Booklas promised to not tell her out. She didn’t get why, as he seemed to be pretty into it. Oh well, maybe she shouldn’t really think about it. She was here to have some fun. Nothing really happened that needed her skills, so she was off duty for the time being.
After deciding not to buy that tea set, she moved on, wondering where she should go next, Tomomi decided to take a brake and find somewhere to get tea and maybe some cake. Not like there were any difficult finding one in this mall, she also got a good one, she always watched. In the middle of the mall was a screen tower, showing all kind of advertisements, but also the news now and then. The little café that was closest to it got its tables in the middle of the hallway surrounded by flowers. It also provided perfect view on the screens. First she had to decide what to do.
“Cheesecake, cheesecake”, a voice appeared besides her, but most people couldn’t hear it, only those that were able to use magic could possible notice the small floating thing besides her. It was a magical being, Tomomi called Bebe. It looked a bit like a doll with long black clothes and right ripped out of a painting only three dimensional. “Take the cheesecake.” Actually Bebe couldn’t eat, but somehow she seemed to like Mami to eat this particular cake.
“I would like to have one piece of this lovely cheesecake and white tea today”, she ordered from the waiter.
“As you wish”, he replied and left. Now she only had to wait until he came back with a bit of the cake and the tea of course. She never ordered the same tea twice a week at least, as this one had quite the selection.
While she was waiting a small cat like creature was finding its way on the table. The returning waiter though didn’t care about it either, or couldn’t notice it. So Kyubey, the cat-like creature, had to make sure, it wasn’t in the way, as a can with the tea, a cup and a plate with the cake was placed on the table. The waiter asked if she needed something else, which Tomomi denied and after a short thank you he was on his way.
“Did you look at the news?”, Kyubey asked.
“Not yet”, Tomomi replied. The tea needed some time still, so she did take a glance at the tower. At first there wasn’t anything strange, that happened. But one screen was reporting on a murder that happened at the evening. Someone with uncertain cause of death. “You mean that one.”
“Yes, I couldn’t investigate it, as I just heard about it too”, Kyubey answered. His voice didn’t show any concern, as his facial expression also was emotionless. Something he had in common with a friend of her.
“We should investigate it then, if magic is involved, you want to say.” Tomomi took the words right out of Kyubey’s mouth. She knew him quite well now and also it was her job, one could say, to do so. She watched the news for a time, while eating the cake and drinking the tea. Only a bit of information was made public. The victim had a slicing wound and skin was burned, but none of this should have been lethal. Of course no visual was shown about this murder, it could scare people. Seemingly there was another victim the same day with exact the same wounds. It happened around this mall in the night. Maybe it was a serial killer involved, the news theorized but police didn’t want to approve of that right now. That was all the information given. At the end was a warning to not go out alone in the night around the mall. The police will probably increase their presence as well, though if magic was really involved, they couldn’t do much.
“What do you think, Tomomi?”, Kyubey asked for her opinion.
“Terrible, terrible”, Bebe was expression its fear. “Dangerous, dangerous.”

“If magic was involved, i should still get some hint of it.” It should be possible at least, to still notice a small presence still, even if a day had almost passed since then. Fortunately people didn’t pay much attention to her and thanks to the plants her position wasn’t good visible, still a bit, but enough that she was confident, that no one would notice it. She was taking a small ring from her finger. That transformed into an egg shaped gem that was put into a socket. She concentrated, focused on it. If there was magic used around here, it should lit up a bit. It did, not by much, but still enough that she could see it. “Well seems like we have to take a night timer. That is surely the enemy of beauty.” Quickly she was changing the soul gem back into a ring and stuck it on her finger. She wanted to finish her cake and tea first, before she wanted to go and come back at night. She was quite confident, that she could do it, the presence seemed weak enough.
