GALACTIC TECHNOLOGY
Modern galactic society is filled with a plethora of futuristic technological marvels. Many of these are Capsule Corp products, owing to the immense breakthrough head start provided by its genius founders, the Brief Family.
However, Capsule Corp can't take all the credit. Many of these technologies were also developed by other organizations, corporations, and individuals. These are some of the technologies that are used in everyday galactic life.
DynoCap™
Also known as "Hoi Poi Capsules", these are Capsule Corp's patented flagship product, from which they derive their name. Using advanced matter compression technology DynoCaps™ can miniaturize anything from small household objects, to vehicles, to entire houses, into a tiny package that fits in a pillbox. DynoCaps™ have since spread across the galaxy along with Capsule Corp's influence.
As two of Capsule Corp's biggest customers, the Galactic Empire and Saiyan Dominion make extensive use of DynoCap™ technology. Imperial Patrolmen use DynoCaps™ to store various pieces of equipment, such as non-lethal weapons, a small patrol craft, and enough police barricades to surround a city block. Aside from personal transport vessels, each Dominion Soldier carries a DynoCap™ storing a month's worth of rations... which is enough to feed an entire Division of Earthling soldiers for the same amount of time.
The Planet Trade Organization, Frieza Force's parent company, has undergone experiments in replicating the DynoCap™ technology, which they first encountered on Galactic Patrolmen during the war 50 years ago. They are currently behind the curve, and have only successfully built DynoCaps™ capable of housing personal equipment, such as weapons and battle armor. Attempts at industrial espionage have failed so far, due to CapsuleCorp's extensive security. However, elite units have gained field access to DynoCaps™ through black market osmosis.
The Tuffles had also independently developed similar technology during their heyday, as seen by Dr. Lychee's use of Capsules. These parallel designs continue to exist through the Continuum, and are differentiated by a flash of light, instead of a blast of smoke. It is possible that they use different scientific principles to achieve a similar effect.
Albium Drive (Hyperdrive)
Colloquially referred to as a 'hyperdrive'. An advanced starship engine developed by the Galactic Patrol in its founding years, hyperdrives were the key to allowing galactic society to prosper. At the heart of a hyperdrive is an exotic form of matter known as Albium, harvested from naturally occurring wormholes occurring throughout the galaxy. The Albium mines built around these wormholes are colloquially known as 'eggshells', due to the all-encompassing energy nets used to trap the exotic matter as it leaks out into normal space.
When charged with sufficient amounts of energy, Albium generates a unique energy field, a 'yokufield', which is capable of tearing open a portal into an alternative realm called 'hyperspace'. Due to its higher-dimensional nature, it is possible for a ship to tunnel through this space and travel vast distances in a fraction of the time compared to conventional travel. This is similar to the old analogy of folding a piece of paper to bring together two dots drawn on opposite ends.
Albium has a relatiely efficient conversion rate, taking months, before a fully filled hyperdrive is depleted and requires refueling, years for a capital ship. This is offset by the scarcity of wormholes throughout the galaxy, which are closely guarded by the Galactic Patrol and Frieza Force.
Capsule Corp has developed an alternative based on Dr. Brief's interstellar craft, which in turn was based on the battle pod that first brought Goku to Earth. This Capsule Corp design utilizes an extremely efficient energy source to make up for the minute amount of Albium found in the pod's hyperdrive. This allowed Goku to arrive at Namek in six days.
This in itself is a feat, considering it took Nappa and Vegeta a year to reach Earth using contemporary battle pods, and with a vastly larger vessel to boot. While slower than mainstream hyperdrives, a CapsuleDrive™ would not need to refuel for decades. Indeed, modern battle pods have only a minute amount of Albium in their drives, owing to their restrictive size.
A Battle Pod passenger has a few options:
- Go at the normal rate. It will take a year to cross the galaxy.
- Maximize the burn rate. Speeds are comparable to larger mainstream hyperdrives, but the Albium will deplete within a scant handful of trips, 4-5 depending on the total distance.
- Deploy the pod from a mother ship waiting outside of a target system's early warning sensors. Due to their minute size, pods are almost impossible to detect, and are a favorite low-cost surprise raid option for Pirates and Frieza Force troops.
